Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is going to fundraise for Sen. Ted Cruz, whom he loathes utterly.

    Yeah but who doesn’t.

I was there…no ‘View Comments’ on P.M. links, just a nice blank ‘Leave a Comment.’

Grabbed’n’tagged a headline, thought of stupid witticism, and…I wasn’t logged in.

    2. Juvenile Bluster   9 years ago

      Good afternoon.

While going to grab lunch today, saw a guy in green standing outside a bar, puking, while one of his friends helped him stay upright. Pace yourselves, people.

      1. Citizen X   9 years ago

I knew a guy in college who stayed drunk for nearly 20 straight hours one St. Patrick’s day. He did the puke’n’rally thing at least twice.

They really should just put that somewhere in the oath of office.

So…. no jail for her then.

    1. Rich   9 years ago

      No jail, but still problems.

      1. Meow-shawn!   9 years ago

What problems? The Media are actively ignoring the blatant illegality of storing and transmitting Top Secret and above material on her unsecured homebrew server. They’ve decided it’s not an issue, so it’s not an issue. USA is fuxxored

        1. Rich   9 years ago

Trump will throw her shit out there every chance he gets. And when Comey acts, that will be covered by the Media.

          1. Playa Manhattan.   9 years ago

            You mean when Comey resigns?

            1. Rich   9 years ago

I thought the Clinton Foundation was State Department business?!?

            1. DenverJ   9 years ago

You’ve got that backwards: The State Department was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Clinton Foundation.

    2. TheZeitgeist   9 years ago

    2. Playa Manhattan.   9 years ago

      That link isn’t even Trumping.

      It’s some bizarre overreaction.

      1. JWatts   9 years ago

“A Donald Trump presidency poses a top-10 risk event that could disrupt the world economy, lead to political chaos in the U.S. and heighten security risks for the United States, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Electing Trump could also start a trade war, hurt trade with Mexico and be a godsend to terrorist recruiters in the Middle East, according to the latest EIU forecasts.”

        “It’s some bizarre overreaction.”

Yep, that’s a polite way of stating it.

        1. PapayaSF   9 years ago

Yes, why are we ignoring the positive effect Obama had on terror recruitment? Since the hated Bush has been gone, Islamic terror has been on the retreat around the world, right?

          Right?

          1. The Last American Hero   9 years ago

Well, there is that JV squad in Syria, the Boko Haram guys in Nigeria that still haven’t given those girls back, the Islamists in Libya showing us Smart Power at its Best, Northern Iraq ceding territory to the JV squad, and the Taliban taking over Afghanistan, but other than that things are swell. I mean we’ve killed like 9 million Al Queda Number 2’s.

            1. gaoxiaen   9 years ago

So that’s like 400,000 decks of cards.

      4. JD the elder   9 years ago

No shit. Reading her piece actually made me hate her more. What a self-serving, disingenuous piece of shit. “Do my First Amendment rights mean I have to be perfect? I mean, what if nobody ever took a chance?” Threatening physical force against people because you dislike their presence for political reasons isn’t “exercising your First Amendment rights”, you slimy weasel. Do you have to be perfect? No, you just have to be semi-reasonable, law-abiding, and not a gross embarrassment to your employers, you stinking would-be Red Guard thug.

      5. NYC2AZ   9 years ago

She’s a BLM Dindu Nuffin’ supporter. The mindset isn’t so hard to understand when you see it through the lens of a cradle to grave entitlement mentality.

Statement From Conservatives Against Trump By Erick Erickson | March 17, 2016, 01:18pm

    For the LULZ

    1. CE   9 years ago

Kill the sick. It’s cheap. It’s the one solution that plays to Government’s strength. The unintended consequences probably include a massive improvement in people’s eating and exercise habits. Really it’s the perfect solution.

If they love Trump, why wouldn’t they just vote for Trump? I’m going with “delusional.”

        1. DenverJ   9 years ago

Utah has the 50% rule: If one candidate gets at least 50% of the vote, then he gets all the delegates.
Suppose Trump gets 48% of the vote, and the not-Trump vote is 52%. If Trump and Cruz are the only two candidates, then Cruz has over 50%, and he gets all 42 delegates from Utah. If Kasich gets, say, 3% of the vote, then Cruz only has 49%, and the votes will then be apportioned, giving both Trump and Cruz 21 delegates each.

Brotailers Are Redefining How Guys Buy Clothes

Chubbies?yes, the name refers to exactly what a 16-year-old boy thinks it does?is a leader in a new kind of menswear retail that appeals to a different breed of customer. He’s not the rumpled office drone who wants nine suits for the price of one at Jos. A. Bank or the tidy, tailored aesthete who favors J.Crew. Rather, he’s the id-driven, post-collegiate twentysomething bro, the dude who might call his friend Broseph Stalin and eat a bag of brotato chips. The recipe for this guy is pretty straightforward: Take two measures bottom-of-your-prep-school class, add one measure earnest goofball, stir, and garnish with a lacrosse stick. But the way to build a business around him isn’t as clear. This is a group who hates shopping and would happily wear the same pair of sweatpants every day if society didn’t frown upon it. So how do you get these guys to buy clothes? This is where Chubbies and its peers come in. Call them the brotailers.

    1. Citizen X   9 years ago

      Call them the brotailers.

I will do no such thing.

    2. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   9 years ago

This is a group who hates shopping and would happily wear the same pair of sweatpants every day if society didn’t frown upon it.

I wish society would frown upon it a little more. I mean, I’m not fussbudget like Gilmore, but at least try when you leave the house, people. Try.

      1. Libertarian   9 years ago

I am continually amazed at the stores stuffed with decent clothes, acres of them, yet the people schlubbing through the aisles appear to always leave them at home in the closet before going out.

          schlubbing

          Culturally appropriated.

Well, now there is a legitimate chance that Donald Trump will have all of those powers.

This is why I often say that the president shouldn’t be allowed to go anywhere. There is no reason he can’t conduct all his business from the Whitehouse or Camp David. Traveling anywhere else is just an unacceptable imposition on people just trying to live their lives.

      1. Free Society   9 years ago

Perhaps the way it should be put is the Presidency should be so limited in its Powers that he or she should be able to walk down a typical street in an average US city without all the hullabaloo.

Just another pointer toward the absolute tyranny we are subjected to on a daily basis that has become so intrinsic we don’t even know how to frame civic function rationally.

Adam Carolla suggests that he do these fundraisers in a hanger at the airport. They can set up some tables, pose for photo ops, give a tour of Air Force One – and nobody’s traffic is screwed up at all.

        1. Playa Manhattan.   9 years ago

It’s flat out wrong to use the power of the presidency to fundraise.

Even with Carolla’s idea, it still fucks up air traffic. And, last time I was at LAX, they shut down all of the surrounding streets when Obama arrived, even though he transferred from Air Force One to a helicopter.

I’d prefer he not come here at all.

      4. Playa Manhattan.   9 years ago

        Especially for fundraising.

It is claimed that the DNC pays back the treasury for these things. I don’t believe it.

It’s just laundering taxpayer dollars into campaign funds for the party in power. And it’s stealing money from the pockets of the people sitting in traffic or stuck on the runway while they wait.

        1. Zeb   9 years ago

Yeah, I doubt he is paying back every cent of his travel and security, the travel and security for all of the officials and helpers that follow him around and probably a bunch of other stuff I’m not thinking of. And he certainly isn’t paying back all the people he inconvenienced for their lost time and business.

    4. paranoid android   9 years ago

I keep hoping we’re fast approaching the day when Marvel (and others in their situation) realizes that they’ll never win with these people and stop trying to cater to them. They can make Thor a woman, cast a black guy in the Norse pantheon, create a whole show for Luke Cage, and make Spider-Man a half-black half-Hispanic guy, and all they’ll ever hear back is that it’s not good enough.

      1. Derp-o-Matic 5000   9 years ago

Gay Iceman is the one that irks me the most. Captain America could easily become a legacy character (Bucky took up the mantle when Rogers died a few years back), the nature of Mjolnir allows for a woman Thor so why not give that a try for a while, and Ultimate Spider-Man….well, different universe, so sure, whatever.

But gay Iceman makes no sense whatsoever.

Agree, though, that nothing will ever be enough. That’s one of the fundamental tenets of progdom

        1. Free Society   9 years ago

Well Thor actually has a female counterpart. Thor Woman? I don’t remember her name, but there’s no need to castrate Thor.

              1. Illocust   9 years ago

She’s probably from an alternate universe. 80’s comics were fond of those.

I have been sketching out a fantasy novel in which the protagonist, a warrior of great renown, has a series of female sidekicks, each of them brave, true, and wholly dedicated to the art of combat. They all die quickly and sometimes horribly because they’re small, slow, and weak compared to the men they’re fighting.

On the other hand, Shogun: Total War long ago taught me that women make excellent assassins.

        2. paranoid android   9 years ago

I should point out that I don’t really have a “problem” with any of the examples I listed. Even if the decisions about the new identities for the characters were made entirely for what might be called “political” reasons, that doesn’t preclude them from becoming good stories (though I’m not much a comic reader these days, so I can’t vouch for any story lines specifically).

But what really bothers me is someone with no stake in the whole thing at all like the writer of this article demanding that the stories *they* think ought to be told should take precedence over everybody else, and when you get enough people thinking like that it really does inhibit creators from telling the good stories they want to tell, because every aspect has to be geared towards ever-greater levels of pandering.

  27. Irish Breaks Up W/ ESB   9 years ago

St. Patrick’s Day is cultural appropriation.

“Everyday Feminism Magazine offers a deeper understanding of cultural appropriation: “a particular power dynamic in which members of a dominant culture take elements from a culture of people who have been systematically oppressed by that dominant group.” Basically, for there to be cultural appropriation, there must be a majority party that is taking important, celebrated aspects of another, more oppressed party. It is impossible for a person from an oppressed culture to practice cultural appropriation because, more times than not, oppressed people have to adopt aspects of the majority culture whether they want to or not. When Irish people first came to the United States, especially after the potato famine, they were oppressed and marginalized by the other people who already lived here. Furthermore, most of the people who celebrate St. Patrick’s Day now do not understand its cultural significance. Thus, St. Patrick’s Day is, in fact, an example of subtle cultural appropriation.”

He uses Everyday Feminism as his source.

    1. MSimon   9 years ago

Is “schlonged” OK because his daughter is Jewish? How to decide that issue?

    2. Irish Breaks Up W/ ESB   9 years ago

      LOL

“Some examples of cultural appropriation had lasting, positive effects on one culture, while negatively affecting another. The best example of this is the way African American music has been taken over by white people. Many Americans mistakenly believe that Elvis Presley, “The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” was the first person to produce that style of music. Rock ‘n’ Roll music, one of the most appreciated musical revolutions in history, was not invented by Elvis, though. Actually, Rock ‘n’ Roll comes originally from African American artists. Even the term “Rock ‘n’ Roll” is appropriated from African American culture ? originally existing as black slang for having sex. ”

Yeah, and basketball was invented by a white guy from Kansas! The fact that today the NBA is overwhelmingly black is an example of cultural appropriation since 5’10” white men like myself have no chance of ever playing for the Chicago Bulls!

AAUP to Investigate University of Missouri’s Dismissal of Melissa Click

“Normative practice among American institutions of higher education is that a faculty member with indefinite tenure?or a probationary faculty member within the term of appointment?may be dismissed only following demonstration of cause in an adjudicative hearing before a faculty body.”

Which would have recommended that Click receive the academic equivalent of Extra Training.

          see here

She doesn’t seem to get to the whole thing with her and the students, just focus on her conscientious, risk-taking decision to block the parade.

*Startpage does use Google, so I don’t think it’s quite wrong to use the term here, it’s not like saying “use Bing to google that”.

Who could have seen that coming?

“We hired a hot teenage babysitter, and my husband slept with her”

“When Leo was 1, David recommended we hire Simone, an 18-year-old aspiring actress whom he mentored. She would show up in low-cut tops and miniskirts, but I thought that was just because girls are so overly sexualized in Southern California. When a friend of mine told me that she had spotted them together in the street, I assumed that they were discussing her career.”

“Other parents warned me about Simone, but as a feminist who works with at-risk girls, I didn’t want to pass on a new babysitter just because she was overly sexual. I thought she was just a lost, damaged kid. I thought if I didn’t hire her, it would make me look like some old insecure troll. I was trying to prove to David that I was cool.”

A modern feminist would have licked Simone into oblivion. And then married her.

I don’t believe any woman is that stupid “I’ll be home late honey. I’ve got to do mentorship things with that hot 18 year old aspiring actress”

      1. Crusty Juggler   9 years ago

I think you underestimate the stupidity of people.

So when David accidentally left his laptop at my place, I didn’t think anything of turning it on. The computer had once belonged to me, and I wanted to make sure I hadn’t left any important videos ? such as Leo’s birth ? behind. But the oldest video on David’s computer wasn’t one of Leo splashing in the bathtub. It was of our babysitter, Simone, sans clothes ? and it was dated 2011, a year before David and I had even gotten married.

Sure, she tripped and fell and checked for videos…

        1. Illocust   9 years ago

Wait, the computer originally belonged to her, but he has a video on it dated from before they got together? This seems hinky. Also, you were snooping hun. Just own up to it.

          1. Illocust   9 years ago

Oh wait, nvm. I’ve read the article now. Marriage came late in the relationship. Real situation is even worse. She was snooping on someone who wasn’t even her significant other.

            1. Notorious UGCC   9 years ago

They were “dating” at the time – and they had the baby to prove it.

              1. Illocust   9 years ago

They were dating at the time he was cheating, but they had already divorced by the time she was snooping through his laptop.

    5. toolkien   9 years ago

Be honest, you didn’t really know which way Simone went, and figured you had a 50/50 shot…

    6. Notorious UGCC   9 years ago

“After my divorce, I moved to LA in 2003 to pursue my acting career ? and, as luck would have it, David and Jack [his son by his late wife] moved to Santa Monica, Calif., not long after. For the first time, we were both single; it wasn’t long until a few theater dates turned into a full-blown romance….

“…after six years of dating, I pushed David to have a baby. I was 40, and knew that this was probably my only shot at becoming a mother.

“We had Leo the next year….

“David and I eventually made our union official and got married in 2012, when Leo was 1?.”

So she was shocked to find that her husband wasn’t fully committed to the idea of marriage?

    7. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   9 years ago

David recommended we hire Simone, an 18-year-old aspiring actress whom he mentored.

Melissa Click: What would our world be like if no one ever took a chance?

    …

you’ve heard my apologies for the mistakes I made while offering my support to the students working to make MU a more inclusive environment.

Among the debates and judgments the video footage of my mistakes has attracted, few have sincerely grappled with the sudden choices I had to make in challenging circumstances, and fewer still have earnestly asked whether my protected right to speak out as a US citizen requires that I must be perfect while doing so.

I don’t know why you libertardians are always picking on Melissa, who was only trying to help decent people make MU a more inclusive environment by excluding that Asian kid with the camera from their Circle of Inclusivity. She made a sudden choice to threaten a kid with violence; go ahead, name me a single college professor who hasn’t done the same. s it reasonable to believe that she, as a public employee, be perfect in not threatening bodily harm to student journalists? Whatever happened to reasonable standards of conduct?

Look, I think we can all agree that nobody’s perfect. Sometimes you’ve just got to threaten the Asian or pinch the secretary’s ass. They’re asking for it, really.

At this point, I think we can all agree that threatening a student photographer in the midst of a rally of frothing lefties is basically the 21st-century equivalent of Jesus Christ dying on the cross for the atonement of sin.

    1. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   9 years ago

“Its all-clear, Mr Kerry… the Russians are gone.”

John Kerry Says ISIS Guilty of Genocide

While the genocide finding may make it easier for Washington to argue for greater action against the group, U.S. officials said it does not create a U.S. legal obligation to do more, and would not change U.S. military strategy toward the militants.

The term tends to be whipped out as a pretext for increased military engagement. The way its being used here suggests they won’t actually demand the UN recognize the same. The fact that they claim its multiple groups seems odd – which actually undermines the claim of genocide itself, which usually requires the claim that there is a systematic effort being made to exterminate some specific group.

Anyway, it just seems like nothing more than a continued shift towards pretending that US involvement in the region is ‘all about ISIS’ and human rights…. and not what we actually got involved there for in the first place = ousting Assad.

From what I’m seeing, the Kurds are the only group in the region remotely capable providing security in their territory.

    2. Diane Reynolds (Paul.)   9 years ago

I have a long, involved theory about how the U.N. stomps on regular people just trying to protect themselves in an unstable region. If you take up arms because the crazy villagers in the next province keep killing your people, now you’re a “warlord” and subject to bombing from 30,000 feet until you disarm.

  42. Irish ?s Lauren Southern   9 years ago

I’ve seen right-wingers making fun of this article about how right-hand privilege, but I’m 99% sure it’s satire.

    Right-handed people
I didn’t realize for a while that nearly everything is structured for convenient use by right handed people, from school supplies to the structure of houses. Check your privilege. Don’t try to silence a left-handed person who complains about scissors hurting their hand or how uncomfortable school desks are to sit in, or the struggle of having dirty hands from writing in pencil. This may seem petty (especially to the rest of the issues listed) but the world is made for right handed people.

Let’s work towards left handed desks in classrooms. (If you’re right-handed in a class with some left-handed desks/seats, please don’t sit in it unless it’s your last option. And please don’t move it to the back!)

What brotailers offer is more than just a retail experience. “It’s almost like these brands are creating safe spaces where dudes can be dudes,” says Heidi Hackemer, founder of marketing agency Wolf & Wilhelmine. This isn’t necessarily a positive thing. “We’re in this really weird phase of masculinity, where all the rules are shifting,” she says. “Everyone is talking about women, and Beyonc? is, like, ‘Go kill it, ladies,’ and Sheryl Sandberg is leaning in, and guys don’t really know how to move forward.
