Clock Kid Deserves an Apology, Not $15 Million. And He's Wrong About His Victim Status.
Zero tolerance, rather than racism, is the prime culprit in Ahmed Muhamed case.

"Clock kid" Ahmed Muhamed was a victim of paranoia about violence in schools and, perhaps, some ugly ethnic assumptions. He has asked for an apology, and he deserves it.
He does not, however, deserve $15 million.
Attorneys for Mohamed, 14, and his family want $15 million in damages and apologies from several officials stemming from Mohamed's September 14 arrest, when he brought to school a homemade clock that a teacher flagged as a possible bomb. …
Demand letters issued by Mohamed's attorneys on Monday sought $5 million from the Irving Independent School District and $10 million from the City of Irving in addition to written apologies from the Irving ISD and the city's mayor and police chief.
The letter to Irving ISD alleges several violations of school policy, including that employees "disregarded the district's written policies and procedures by detaining, interrogating and attempting to coerce a confession from Ahmed." The letter also claims Mohamed suffered "severe psychological trauma" and was harassed by officials.
The letter to the City of Irving asserts that Mohamed's constitutional rights were violated.
"Let's face it, if Ahmed's clock were 'Jennifer's clock,' and if the pencil case were ruby red bedazzled with a clear rhinestone skull and crossbones on the cover, this would never have happened," the letter states.
This last point is certainly false. As I have explained numerous times, kids of every color and creed are routinely mistreated by school officials and police officers for making gestures, holding items, and playing with others in a perfectly safe, healthy, reasonable manner. Here's a partial list of students disciplined for dubiously disrupting public safety in school:
- "Little Boy Suspended for Pointing Finger Like a Laser Gun."
- "School Suspends Kid for Twirling Pencil & Subjects him to 5-HOUR Evaluation!"
- "Kid Twirls a Pencil in Class, N.J. Threatens to Take Him From His Dad and Requires Blood and Urine Testing." (Pencil-twirling: the hidden dangers of America's schools, evidently.)
- "Girl Writes About Pot in Her Diary, School Reads It and Suspends Her All Year."
- "Felony weapons charge for student who brought fishing supplies to school."
- "Hearing Examiner: School Was Right to Suspend Little Boy Who Chewed Pop-Tart Into Shape of Gun."
- "Toy gun made of paper gets kid tossed from school."
- "Drawing of Cartoon Bomb Gets Middle School Student Suspended in South Carolina."
Muhamed's lawyers claim "Jennifer" would never have been detained over a skull-and-crossbones pencil case; this assertion is just flatly wrong. Remember the white kid who was suspended and arrested for wearing an NRA T-shirt? Remember about Alan Holmes?
Clock kid should get his apology, but he should also get a dose of reality: he is not the first victim of overzealous policing in schools, nor is the injustice committed against him among the most egregious I've ever seen.

Clock kid deserves a punch in the face and so do his parents. Fuck them and their lawsuit abuse. This whole thing was planned from the beginning.
Have Sudan's dictator give him some money. He's loaded and they're buddies.
Even if they did plan it, which is far from clear as far as I can see, the reaction was still inappropriate and ridiculous. There was no bomb or anything that looks like a bomb and the whole thing could easily have been settled with a few questions without calling police or threatening to punish anyone.
Assume the worst about the kid and his family if you must. But the school and police still fucked it up big time. The fact that it may have been a deliberate stunt doesn't make the reaction any less awful. Do you think that people participating in an open carry demonstration in a city where police are likely to go overboard about people carrying guns deserve a punch in the face too?
Even if they did plan it, which is far from clear as far as I can see,
Its the way to bet, though.
Circuit boards, wires and a clock in a non standard case doesn't look like a bomb?
That wouldn't be my first assumption, no.
It's worth checking out. Which would take about 10 minutes, after which the kid should have been free to go.
Apparently it seems to function more like Metamucil around these parts.
No it doesn't look like a real bomb.
It looks pretty exactly like the fake bombs they have on TV all the time though--you know, the only 'bomb' most teachers have had any contact with.
The school shouldn't have taken the bait. But he and his scumbag family deserve nothing.
Clock Kid AND his family are kindly invited to slather each other with pigs' blood and fornicate amongst themselves.
#NerdLivesMatter
No, they don't.
Hey, everyone's lives that post here matter.
Deserves an apology?!? Come on, Robbo, that little motherfucker and his family concocted the whole thing up. I won't even read the rest of this article, and I usually am a fanboi of yours.(Well...fanboi of the hair that is)
Ok, I lied, I read the first paragraph and the last(just scanned the rest)...I think the Reason staff has been on PCP way too much of late. Lay off the drugs for a little, if just to bring your tolerance down.
They're more tolerant than all of us combined. They're extremely enlightened in their tolerance for an Islamic US
Maybe he should get paid. Considering what happened to the last media poster child for the dreaded "Islamaphobia", the kid might need a break.
A man, who just two years ago was the poster boy for the far-Left media's attacks against the U.S. government's no-fly list for "unfairly" targeting Muslims, finds himself and several family members sitting in a Turkish prison -- arrested earlier this month near the Turkey-Syria border as members of an ISIS cell.
No offense, but I don't trust Turkish officials to know if people are members of ISIS anymore than I trust the Obama administration to.
It's still a funny story.
What was he doing in a war zone? Isn't that the exact place any sane person wants NOT to be?
I don't trust them either. But how exactly does one just happen to be on the Syrian Turkish border and get mistakenly nailed for trying to join ISIS? If they had caught him in Chicago or changing planes in Ankara, I would be skeptical. But that is not what happened.
Aid worker?
Oh, who am I kidding, that is the most likely scenario.
They are all "aid workers". Just ask them.
Aid workers with clocks.
Nicely done.
Fuckin' hell, man. I've been to the Turkish-Syrian border. I was on a class field trip/road trip from Alanya to Damascus.
Of course, that was 22 years ago.
But have you ever been in a Turkish prison?
No, and I don't like movies about gladiators, neither!
Have you ever seen a grown man naked?
Fewer than 50, more than none.
37?!
In a row?
I'm gonna have to amend my number, given that I watch more porn than the average sow.
"Fuckin' hell, man. I've been to the Turkish-Syrian border. I was on a class field trip/road trip from Alanya to Damascus.
Of course, that was 22 years ago."
Yep, once you get lost it takes forever to get back. What a nightmare, with a school class.
Did you experience a conversion?
Somebody owes me an apology!

Complaint.
What the fuck, Apple?
Leaving aside whether or not the family planned this, did those other examples lead to the kids being detained and interrogated without a guardian or counsel or were they just immediately expelled/suspended? Cause if that's the case, then their lawyer is technically correct.
Which, as we all know, is the best kind of correct.
Well, there were arrests in at least two of the linked cases, based on the links alone.
I have to read the links too?
You really are the worst.
I meant, "based on the linked text alone."
How did they "plan" this?
I mean, if I accept that as a possibility, what was the shtick? Take something kind of computer-ey and wire-ey and wait for the inevitable freakout of dumbass school officials?
If so, maybe they deserve the $15m.
Yes, exactly that.
Having been through this as a kid, I can say that it is not unusual for them to detain the kid and sit there and question them for hours until the parents are notified, can get away from work, and schlep on down to school. In fact, in my case, they didn't even notify my parents. They had me sit with the principal and a police officer, and then gave me my suspension and papers for the expulsion hearing and sent me home on a bus. Kids don't get due process, fool.
Fine. He was harmed. Give him bogus whiplash settlement money, like $9 grand and hospital bill coverage.
Slow news day?
It was until the 14 year old Muslim boy who was arrested and interrogated for bringing some wires and components to school announced his $15 million lawsuit for violating his civil rights.
Just give him a gift certificate for a ham sandwich at Subway.
Once again my Poemeter has failed me. Are there really people out there who are clock kid troofers?
I didn't even know there was a controversy until today. Do I have to google it or can someone give me the 25 word summary?
"The whole thing was planned so this could happen."
I mean, if I accept that as a possibility, what was the shtick? Take something kind of computer-ey and wire-ey and wait for the inevitable freakout of dumbass school officials?
Yep. That's it.
The main complaint is that he didn't, as claimed, build a clock. He took an alarm clock apart and put it in a brief-case so that it looked like a bomb.
Bomb scares as pranks are normally frowned upon.
When I was in a school, a kid wrote "bomb" on graphing calculator and left it for the next class to turn it over to the teacher. He got expelled and he was white.
I would call that an overreaction too.
It certainly is. But the narrative isn't simply "Oh shit, this school overreacted.". The narrative is "Muslim is victimized by white people's racist expectations." It's well worth refuting.
You are assuming a lot of intent that is not obviously there. And pretty much no one builds a clock by your standard. They buy chips, oscillators and/or movements from someone else and put together a clock.
And how does a circuit board in a briefcase look like a bomb?
Further, if they had any actual concern that it was in fact a bomb, they wouldn't have just sat him in the office and called the police.
Because the modern conception of a bomb involves an electronic timer, such as a clock. I imagine it would be easy to hook a detonator up to the alarm circuit.
For me, the tipoff was the impracticality of the thing. OK, so you're not up to building your own circuits because you're 14. Fine. Deconstruct a clock and make a nice, practical case for it. This was not a practical, nor aesthetically pleasing case. Looks like you have to open the case to see the display (the big reddish rectangle looks like an 88:88. display such as commonly used for clocks. Also, given the fairly big transformer in the picure from yesterdays article, looks like the clock needs 120vac to work, so again impractical.
I can't prove that this was deliberate shit-stirring, but from where I'm sitting it certainly looks like that.
Also, it looks like his FB fanclub (SJWs and "pro-science" types) have abandoned this kid since I no longer see any impassioned defenses of him.
The 120vac is actually quite dangerous outside of a protective case. Stupid stupid stupid.
Thank you. That transformer looked to be unsecured, ie not attached to anything which could lead to some real fun in what looks like an aluminum case.
See, if they were smart they'd play up the fire hazard and electrocution danger angles.
Don't you remember the MIT student's t-shirt with blinking LEDs? Everything looks like a bomb these days.
They accused him building something to look like a bomb. They're not saying he built a bomb, then they realized it wasn't a bomb. It's like weilding a toy gun around, even if the adults know it's a toy gun, you're ass is getting expelled for trying to fuck with people and being generally a retard.
He literally unscrewed a cheap clock and stuffed it in a box. Then the teachers asked him to put it away. Then he plugged it in and had the alarm go off in class.
Maybe he's just a lone asshole, because making something that looks like a bomb and scaring the shit out of my friends is definitely something I would have done if I thought of it when I was a kid. Or maybe he's just a kid who's parents put him up to shenanigans because they know leftists and Reason writers are suckers for these sorts of things. But what he isn't is some kid who was doing a science project, or some victim of anything but his own stupidity and maybe his parents. And more likely a beneficiary of a plan to get attention.
Your "main complaint" in the first sentence is not the same as the claim "so that it looked like a bomb."
Any white Christian kid who did the same thing would be in big trouble too. The authorities are mega assholes over anything that even looks like a bomb scare.
Except he didn't put it in a *brief* case so that it looked like a bomb.
It looked nothing like a bomb - it looked like someone had taken a clock radio apart and tossed the guts in a box.
A *small* box - a pencil case.
And there was no bomb scare. The alarm went off and everyone freaked out.
...and everyone freaked out.
So it was an 'alarm clock scare'? Sounds like a bomb scare to me.
I think the school definitely over-reacted, but I also think this was a calculated hoax to drum up reaction.
People can freak out for reasons other than fear of bombs. Just sayin'.
Alarm clocks can't melt steel beams.
CLOCK KID WAS AN INSIDE JOB
YARR I KNEW IT ALL ALONG YE SCURVY DOG
THE RETURN OF PIRATE TRUTHER?!?!?!
Dick Cheney let clock kid go to school that day. He requested the Irvine PD to stand down.
Everyone involved in this story is an asshole.
How many more words do I have left?
No need to expend any more, you got it.
+17 words
Have you...not been reading H&R?
Only for the articles.
Don't lie. You're here to get your jollies off on the alt text like the rest of us.
I'm totally here for the 'sexbots as sex slaves' articles.
That Roomba was totally asking for it.
I suppose I shouldn't assume anything is beyond the pale for commenters here when a Muslim is involved. But I mean concocting a conspiracy theory around a 14-year-old boy is a pretty impressive piece of paranoid bigotry.
To be fair, it does involve removing pretty much all agency from the 14-year-old boy.
Are you arguing against or for? There are some clever and somewhat evil 14 year olds. I think it extends to Muslims. This isn't actually a bad idea, anyway. Risk is pretty low, potential rewards are pretty high.
I haven't seen any evidence that it was a plot in a reputable publication.
What publication is reputable?
One with clear sourcing that readers can verify.
Q: "What publication is reputable?"
A: "One with clear sourcing that readers can verify."
Oh, you mean Wikipedia.
Risk is pretty low, potential rewards are pretty high.
^This.
Now, let's say he gets away with this and gets an apology and a big payout. The next little muslim who does this is going to get a pass because the school system is afraid. Then one day there will be an actual bomb.
So he's playing the long con for future generations?
I'm not sure he's the one actually behind this; others have said they suspect older family members are behind this. And doesn't need to be future generations, just wait a few months and try the same technique in a more proggie enclave. Which isn't to say the parents are anything but money-grubbers, but somewhere in the USA there is at least one jihadi or wannabe family or group that can co-opt a family.
I had individual gain in mind, not future generations. The calculation might still hold for that. I don't know him, nor "them".
Best lock up all the Muslims then. That'll certainly guarantee there'll be no more bombs.
Seconded !
I think the dad put him up to it.
It probably wasn't his idea to file a $15M lawsuit, so there's that.
The school clearly overreacted. The jury is out on whether the kid was manipulated to provoke the overreaction. But the lawsuit doesn't make him particularly sympathetic.
I hope you don't actually believe the clock boy? If so you might want some heavy duty foil for your next hat.
What does that even mean. It is pretty clear the kid's parents are nuts and the whole thing was just a stunt. They wanted the school to overreact and then use that to claim he was a victim. The kid and his dad seem to both have room temperature IQs. That was of course more than sufficient to outsmart your typical school administrator.
I blame the cops as well. They could have shown up, verified that there was nothing to see here, call it a day. Instead, the arrested the kid after they verified there was no bomb or bomb threat. PD should have been the adults here.
I am not sure there are any adults left in this country. If there are, they sure as hell are not cops or teachers.
Got it. It's the evil, cunning mother. Are there any in Muslim fairy tales?
?
JEWS DID BLINKING 12:00!
There have been since shortly after the story. Their evidence is basically
1) his dad is a professional shit-stirrer,
2) his sister got into similar trouble before,
3) the "clock" wasn't built, he just took out the guts of a working clock and put in in a case, with a display and visible wires and whatnot,
4) the "clock" was specifically designed to resemble the sort of bomb you might see in a movie (and recall, he was charged with a bomb hoax, not having an actual bomb).
5) he had already been warned by his technically literate teacher not to show off the device, or people might be alarmed, and
6) he got caught because the alarm went off in class; alarms don't go off at random, they are programmed, therefore he intended to have a less technical teacher discover the "clock"
The chief counterargument was "what would be the motive for that sort of a plot, just to fuck with people"? That line of argument doesn't really work now that they're seeking a $15 million payout.
Yeah, there is literally zero evidence of this.
It most certainly did resemble a bomb, The only question is whether he did it intentionally.
The claim that it was "specifically designed to resemble" a bomb is what I am disputing. We certainly don't have evidence of that.
There was nothing in the picture from yesterday that looks specifically bomb-like, ie no lump of putty, no cylinders. But the deconstructed electronics do look like the time part of the popular conception of a bomb.
But we don't know what he was intending.
This is one of those situations where both sides are assuming everyone knows things about electronics, when actually most people have never seen the insides of anything electronic. The thing looked like what someone who doesn't understand electronics would think is a bomb. If you have ever pulled things apart for fun you immediately know that it isn't, but the majority of people and the great majority of teachers (who tend to be mathphobes and English major passion people) don't have a clue what they are looking at beyond red timer with wires coming out of it like the bombs on TV.
Anybody who thinks that what was inside that box looks like a bomb should freak the fuck out if they ever lifted the hood on the car's engine.
No they don't. Not at all.
Nobody - not even Hollywood - depicts a bomb that is 90% electronics and 0% anything that might possibly contain explosives.
As someone who builds props for films, I've gotta say that you're 100% wrong here.
You build things that convey 'bomb' to the audience. An LED display, some wires and circuit boards and a box IS a Hollywood bomb. If it lights up and makes noises as well, you've got a higher end prop there.
You'd only include a fake explosive if there was a line calling attention to it--because you shoot it so that all people see is the countdown and the wires--that way you have that great tense shot of cutting/pulling the right wire.
It most certainly did *not* resemble a bomb in even the teensiest-weensiest way.
It resembles a the insides of a small electronic appliance.
Ummm, I seem to recall seeing a picture of the clock.
Doesn't really look like a real bomb, but does look like a lot of TV type bombs, and definitely does not look like a clock.
Not zero.
That doesn't mean we know what he was thinking when he designed it.
We aren't supposed to prosecute or suspend or fine or otherwise punish people for what they think, only for what they do.
Unless you believe in mens rea, of course.
Still based on doing something. Mens rea is basically a defense after the fact.
And you can argue that he didn't intend for this to be mistaken for a bomb, but it was, at least temporarily.
Mistaken for a bomb by complete morons. You simply can not protect yourself from the actions of complete morons.
Mens rea is an *essential * part of criminal law.
We don't punish people *solely* for what they think, just as we (generally) don't punish them *solely* for what they do - its the combination of criminal *action* and criminal *intent* that gets your arse slung.
Other than photographs of the device in question?
Photographs of the device are not a window into the soul of the kid that built it.
If the plan was to turn an arrest into a payout, then that is evidence (not necessarily in the courtroom sense, just in reasoning about his intent). Such a plan would only work if the device was bomblike enough to get him arrested or expelled, which means he was designing it to evoke a bomb. IOW, the fact that he planned to get arrested is evidence of the fact that he should have been arrested.

"
The meme circulating around the intertubes points out that not only does it in fact resemble 'actual explosive-device triggers'... but that, more importantly, it does look like the silly "24" conception of a TV-show suitcase bomb
The point isn't whether the kid ever intended to fool anyone into actually thinking it was a 'real bomb' - the point is whether the school authorities were given enough reason to believe it was intended to look like a 'hoax bomb'.
The standard isn't whether it is convincing enough to "fool you". Its whether it was "bomb like" enough to freak out school administrators...which, as we've all noted - usually doesn't take much.
It is also a fact that the kid never made any "electronics project" at all - he took a pre-existing clock out of its case, and put the guts in a different box. This blog covers that. The fact that the student defended himself with claims about it being some "project" suggested there was some intent to mislead.
what would be the motive for that sort of a plot, just to fuck with people
As a former 14 year old male, I can assure you this is more than enough.
Oh and the only thing clock kid did was take the casing off a clock. He didn't build shit. I used to do shit like that as a kid all the time, and nobody called me a fucking genius for it.
Did you get arrested?
No because I never brought anything like that school, because I didn't think anyone would be all that interested, and I'm not the type of person who tries to impress others cause frankly I don't give a shit what other people think.
Good for you. Seriously.
But some people do care what others think and thing that simple crap like taking apart a clock is more impressive than it is.
You obviously weren't 15 in 2015 where people ask questions on the forum that start with 'Am I the only person who does x?' - as if that's of any import whatsoever. But they *need* the validation that comes with knowing they are in step with the herd.
Perhaps there's a reason for that.
Obviously they were too stupid to recognize genius when they see it.
He may not be a genius. But that is the sort of thing that kids who are interested in things do. You don't start off designing circuits from scratch.
Having been that kid, albeit in an era of simpler technology, I would have been ashamed to turn in anything like that as a project at age 14. Ages 10-12 that might have been a shop class project but not a science project.
I would have too. Maybe he's not that bright. Maybe it was a stunt. Even in that case, as long as he wasn't presenting it as a bomb or making any threats, it was all dealt with terribly.
My comment here is mostly responding to the people who seem to think that the fact that it was a lame project is particularly relevant here. If he had been more sophisticated with electronics and made something actually interesting, I don't see where they wouldn't have reacted the same stupid way.
Fuck the little extortionist. No apology. If he were to receive an apology, it would only legitimize his claims for money.
His family knew better. They did it anyway.
Besides, that clock did look like a wanna be bomb. And the wiring job on it looked like shit. Hardly worthy of a visit to meet astronauts.
He got his 5 minutes of fame. In 10 years, we will be able to read about what a great jihadi he is.
Ridiculous!
His family detained him for not committing any crimes?
I think it's a troll. I suspect a Hugh Akston sock.
Not a troll. Your suspicion is dead wrong.
Just stating my opinion. These people are opportunists looking to take money from the locals in TX.
It sure is easy to get the locals to play along.
What does that mean?
It means the cops shouldn't have freaked out, hoax or not.
cops shouldn't have freaked out
Why don't you ask the wind not to blow or the sun not to rise?
Hey, here's some wires with no explosives attached.
College educated professionals everywhere dial 911.
OK. since you seem to know it all....
How about this? Do you know how much explosive materials could have been stored behind that L.E.D. display and how much damage that can do (given the properties of various materials)? It is actually quite easy to hide that stuff. And if the case had a false 1/4" bottom, that would store a lot of bad shit....
I am not going to give out details on how to build explosive aluminium cases here. However, they were right to be suspicious of it and have it checked out. Anyone who has seen a spy movie knows what it was intended to look like. These people brought the scrutiny on themselves. They deserve no money!

Imagine how much explosive material could be brought in, concealed in a typical Jansport backpack... and nearly every student has one.
His family exercised poor judgement in allowing this display from him and the way it was handled. He is a minor, right?
What "display" did they "allow"?
The display of the wanna-be-bomb looking clock that he took to school.
Geez.
Except - he didn't display it.
Taken from Wikipedia...
"Mohamed had repackaged an electronic clock in a pencil box and brought it to school to show his teachers."
The operative word here is "show". He in fact did display it to his teacher (as in show it to his teacher). Stop arguing over semantics. It's illogical in this case.
Not to mention the fact that the display could also mean the physical form and presentation of the object in question.
....some people's kids these days
You are the one arguing over semantics, mainly by desperately trying to change the meaning of your previous statements. Write clearly and there would be no doubt what you mean - but that would make goal-post moving and the M&B tactic difficult wouldn't it.
He showed it to *one* teacher who advised him to not bandy it about. That's the extent of his *displaying*.
As for the other meaning of display - the item in question did not *display* ANY of the characteristics of an explosive device.
You have a low IQ and complete ignorance for common sense.
It went off in class. The clock only runs on electricity. Meaning he took it out again. Plugged it in, and set the alarm to go off in class. Fairly obvious kid was looking to draw attention to his project.
He set the alarm to go off in the middle of his English class. Maybe it was an accident, but taken in conjunction with the other facts of the case, it seems likely that he intended to bring it out at that time.
Quickly:
The "clock" in question looked like half computers working in our labs -- disassembled with boards connected to ribbon cables and a power supply.
The "clock" doesn't look like any bomb from a movie or real life.
The pants-shitter that called the police and the police that arrested the boy are total fuckheads that deserve enormous public ridicule.
It could very well be that the boy and his father were trying to provoke a response.
This wouldn't bother me, if their goal was simply to illuminate the kinds of shit that "muslim-looking" people have to deal with on a regular basis.
However, all sympathy I had for the boy and father evaporated with the lawsuit.
At this point, I pretty much hate all parties involved.
This just about sums it up.
It's difficult to speculate the original motives. But at this point, the lawsuit is the result of lawyers smelling blood in the water. There's a shitton of money to be made, and I'd be shocked if nobody went after it. The race angle just amplifies the payment.
All the more reason to hate lawyers (except for the good ones that hang out at H&R).
No, no. You should hate those ones too.
They just get to be last in the lawyer-chipper.
I thought about making a demonic pact for infernal supernatural powers, in exchange for delivering the souls of lawyers to feed the demonic entities. But upon further investigation I discovered it wouldn't work. As lawyers have no souls, causing the demonic forces to starve.
Best to just kick lawyers in the balls/cunt.
The lawyers are just responding to incentives. If they couldn't make money this way, it would stop happening. What's broken is the legal system that makes it possible.
And a successful lawsuit won't exactly tamp down zero-tolerance policies.
"New school district rule! No one may bring anything to school. Period."
I'm lazy, so I'll just say I agree with this comment
Hey, buddy. Long time since I've seen you post.
Hey, Tonio. I've been around, but not as much as previous. The Yokeling around here kind of got to me.
I suspect a Republican president other than Trump will win, and within a few months, he'll start sucking badly. Then the fair weather Republitarians will slowly be replaced by fair weather Demotarians. But considering how the quality of comments has gone, it will still be an improvement, at least for a short while.
A bomb can look like anything, so anyone saying it doesn't look like a bomb because bombs look like X if full of shit. It looks like a movie prop bomb. Does it look like a clock? No, clocks aren't in cases. So people will say what is it? Something in a case with a timer. I can't think of anything that is in a case with a timer but a movie prop bomb. Also called a hoax bomb.
Attorneys for Mohamed, 14, and his family want $15 million in damages and apologies from several officials
By the way, they'll get the $15m LONG...LOOOOOOOOOOOONG before they get one single fucking apology.
I love how the media has collectively decided to overlook that time Clock Boy personally met with Omar al-Bashir. Guess ten years is all it takes to forget the genocide in Sudan...
In his defense, he met Bashir on a Call of Duty raid, and they just had to see each other in person.
I probably should not have laughed so hard at this...
We're sorry. You brought something to school that looked kind of like a bomb. And we then treated you and it like it was a bomb. Terribly sorry about that, next time we will ignore the bomb.
I have no idea what his plan was or if there was some conspiracy, but what exactly should the apology be for? Are you supposed to just take a kids word that his bomb looking thing is just a clock?
I have no idea what his plan was or if there was some conspiracy, but what exactly should the apology be for? Are you supposed to just take a kids word that his bomb looking thing is just a clock?
Overreacting.
They could even make a point about being rabid racists who hate Muslims but, clearly, the clock was not a bomb and treating it as such was an overreaction.
Again, he'll get the $15m before they'll ever admit to an overreaction.
He's not getting the 15mil.
He'll get the $90,000 long before they offer an apology.
Clear to you but clear to some random teacher? If people were walking past that in the park would they react bomb, or clock? And this is ignoring that there are explosives that easily could be concealed in the lining. When the science teacher confirms the child's story or I assume when the cop shows up they should figure out not bomb pretty quickly. But then I'd be wondering as the cop what was the plan here. Me that age I'd always tell a friend teacher first oh this is a clock, show it off etc. Then when left someplace where it causes a stir or bomb threat I get to act innocent, because I already set up my excuse.
So true! He could also be concealing explosives in his asshole. And you could be concealing them in your asshole! And I could be concealing them in my asshole! I just need to check your asshole!
You have a fetish.
And the worst manners.
I just need to check you're asshole!
You puncuated that wrong.
And if you had wires and a clock coming out of your ass I might wonder what the eff was going on. The basic rule is if your first instinct or thought is bomb you treat it as such until you can confirm otherwise. Not because it is or even likely is but because it potentially could be. A forgotten backpack is treated as a bomb no matter how unlikely it is. Once the idea gets dropped you pretty much have to follow it until it's confirmed not to be. That's reality for this situation and pretty much 99% of all potential bombs ever in this country. Acting like this is different or we owe anyone an apology for following a fairly normal procedure is insane.
BOSTON STRONG
Normal procedure is what some of us think is insane, though.
HEY! I SAW IN THIS MOVIE WHERE SOME CRAZY GUY SEWED A CELLPHONE BOMB INTO THIS OTHER PRISONERS CHEST AND THEN BLEW UP A WHOLE POLICE STATION!!!!
WE SHOULD TOTALLY BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THAT OLD GUY SINCE THAT MIGHT NOT REALLY BE A PACEMAKER!!!!
The basic rule is if your first instinct or thought is bomb you treat it as such until you can confirm otherwise.
Basic rule for whom?
My instincts tell me that the odds of thwarting a bomb threat in this direct manner are indistinguishably different from zero for just about everybody. They also tell me that, even if they are non-zero, the methodical non-reaction reaction that was generated by following basic rules, placing people under arrest, and following the Chain of Command did precisely dick in actually saving lives/reducing harm.
Isn't the whole idea of school and civilization in general that we learn to temper our basic instincts with reason? To learn when the rules apply and when they don't?
People walking past it in the park would shake their heads that some asshole threw his trash on the ground.
That overreaction was "rabid racism"? I got suspended because a friend of mine drew a picture of Bart Simpson with a gun, unbeknownst to me. He told the principal that he intended to give to me as a gift. I never even saw the damn thing. I'm white but I guess I was a victim of "rabid racism". Racism everywhere!
No, you are supposed to take his word that the broken clock looking thing is just a clock.
No lump of putty (ie, plastique), no cylinders (ie, dynamite). So, timer but no apparent explosives. I think he was trying to come as close to making a bomb mockup as he could possibly get away with. That's what sets me off (get it? TFIBHAW), this seems designed to play to the sympathies of the SJW crowd and rope in some of the "pro-science" types who trend heavily lefty (the Pharyngula crowd).
Considering that school bombings in the U.S. are pretty much nonexistent, even if you include pipe bombs, perhaps "BOMB!" should not be the default response when you encounter an unfamiliar electronic device?
Right. The fact that some people are dumb enough to think that exposed electronics are what a bomb looks like doesn't make it a crime to carry around some circuit boards in a box.
"What is that?"
"A clock."
"It looks like a bomb."
"There's no explosive."
"Oh, right. Carry on."
Two people of moderate intelligence should have been able to manage this simple exchange of thoughts, but apparently expecting intelligence in a school is asking a bit much.
Well, they should have lit the fuse - or some cable - to see if it explodes. Before calling the police. -- As for your advice on intelligence, terrorists should teach their trainees to say "A clock" and "There's no explosive", which should make all the moderately intelligent officers in Brussels stop haunting the streets. Ah, exchanges of thought.
WHYCOME AINT THERE BE NO WIRES IFFN THERE AINT NO BOMB HUH
No deal, Warty. Try exchanging that thought somewhere else.
(Reminds of Frasier's Marty.)
Oh, that's right! The kid could have invisible explosive! You know, the stuff that Wonder Woman burns in the jet engines of the invisible jet!
Not familiar with the comic lore; wonder if that's euphemism for her vibrator.
Seriously?
Halfway. Too timid to feature a vibrator, but apart from that I do know next to nothing about the fiction.
Checked Wikipedia: "Created by William Moulton Marston as another allegory for his Wonder Woman comics, the invisible plane represented the "invisible" feminine compliance that women of the Depression Era had to rely on in order to survive in the hostile male dominated work place. To demonstrate this, it was allegorized that the Invisible Plane would be undetected while moving quietly at super sonic speeds so that it would not be shot down by the guns of Man's World. The idea was avoidance of conflict rather than meeting hostility head on."
What the? A vibrator would have been... less nuts.
Considering Wonder Woman originally required the jet to fly and can now do so on her own I think your interpretation is as valid as any other retcon.
Given the allegorical origins of the plane, the vibrator retcon would probably be the best. Now, if we could just replace 'glass ceiling' with 'glass tabletop', we'd be all set.
"Wonder Woman and her Invisible Vibrator"? I'm up for that.
"Oh, right" as in, "I don't see any explosive" not "whatever you say must be correct".
And if this application of intelligence is too dangerous, then you might as well close the schools and send everyone home. Clearly no one is learning anything, and having so many people congregated in one area just makes them all targets.
Yes, take a look at this gun barrel, see if there's a real bullet in it.
Maybe they're just *slow* learners.
The comparable equivalent would be to look for a firing pin.
In any case, you've more or less made my point for me. Either this is so dangerous that no one should be going to school, or it isn't that dangerous and thus it's just a bunch of fools in different costumes putting on a moronic play.
I vote for "no one should be going to school." For the children.
"For the children."
That incantation only works when you're part of the "Moral Majority". If nothing else, your fetish kicked your ass right out if it.
"It"?
Just give teachers some training in combat and explosives.
I was referring to the situation at hand.
But at this point you have managed to whinge for awhile without bothering to say anything constructive. Maybe you'll bother to make a point, but I doubt it.
You know who else whinged for awhile without bothering to say anything constructive?
There's no fundamental disagreement. You have to figure out the level of acceptable risk, and the best methods to evaluate situations. By the way, I took the backpack example seriously.
Exactly - I mean its bright green, translucent, has water dripping out the front.
BUT IT COULD BE A GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK. By your reasoning we should just arrest all students right away, because anyone with a tiny bit of intelligence intending to bomb the school would do a better job of hiding it.
Speaking of things that look like actual bombs, every kid with a backpack full of books has a look-alike of the Boston Marathon bombers' bombs. Better have them all arrested.
You'd arrest because they're too stupid to do a better bombing job? I'm fairly certain that's against board of education policy.
The backpack bit is pretty smart. What poses a greater risk, something that looks like a bomb, or something that could contain a bomb? The emotional reactions are clear.
No, my first point is that the kid openly carrying something that some people imagine looks like a bomb is no more significant of a threat than all of the other kids who might have bombs concealed somewhere.
And they clearly had no actual worries that there was an actual bomb. If they had, then they would have evacuated the school, called in the bomb squad, etc. So your point about dealing with actual terrorist suspects doesn't really apply here because there was no actual suspicion that it was a real bomb.
I assume they had worries that there was an actual bomb, which, of course, is not having certainty. At some point, they understood that it was not a real bomb. Thus it seems that they didn't worry enough (yet may have worried) to evacuate, then gained certainty that it was not a bomb (and stopped worrying).
I took you backpack example seriously. There I mentioned probability of harm (vivisible pseudo bomb versus invisible space in backpack). Much of the conflict in this case appears to be about psychological harm ("psychic externalities"), emotions, fear, and not just about the acceptable level of risk (and physical safety).
Even when I was in school well before 911, school got evacuated based on the vaguest bomb-threat. I can't be sure, but I'd guess that if they had the slightest suspicion that there was a real bomb things would have happened rather differently.
"lit the fuse" Um, bombs that have fuses don't need electronics. Fuses were chemical timers; if you've got an electronic timer you don't need fuses.
"or some cable" How often have you had to set fire to cables to actuate an electronic device? The only thing that does is maybe set the insulation on fire.
You are an idiot.
To be perfectly clear, "fuse" and "fuses" above refer to the chemical fuses one sees on fireworks; not to the electrical components to protect circuits by limiting power.
"To be perfectly clear, "fuse" and "fuses" above refer to the chemical fuses one sees on fireworks; not to the electrical components to protect circuits by limiting power."
Fascinating, Fuse Kid.
Oh please, "lit the fuse" and then combined with "or lit some cable" -- you should notice that this isn't meant seriously. Unless you are an idiot.
You have no history here, so hard to judge. Claiming that something was a joke is an easy, and therefore ineffective, dodge.
Well, we could discuss the standards of idiocy, to establish a baseline. But to assume that a bomb that is designed around a clock is designed to be triggered without the clock (lit fuse) is exceptionally stupid. Further exaggerating that by setting not a fuse, but a cable on fire reaches even greater heights of idiocy. Now when you have someone without history, you'd assume average intelligence. And the discrepancy between average intelligence and such idiotic statements strongly indicates sarcasm. You made a mistake, and dodging that isn't easy.
Usually if your electronic cables are on fire it means your bomb isn't going to work.
ummm, love you man, but most bombs do have both electronics and fuses.
That's what his teacher did, but it wasn't enough so he plugged it in and set the alarm to go off in the next class.
A variation of this exact thing happened. The teacher told him to not show the thing to others. Had he done that none of this would have happened.
Instead, he set the timer on the thing his teacher HAD ALREADY WARNED HIM ABOUT to go off in the middle of class.
He was clearly trying to provoke a response of the type he got.
You're making this about trace only. Jennifer hints at something different. Sex. Check the prospect of violent crimes and see how many boys your links have. -- This is descriptive, I'm not commenting on whether sex differences should be taken into account. But there clearly are differences in aggression.
ruby red bedazzled with a clear rhinestone skull and crossbones on the cover
Cue genuine Muslim rhinestone bombers and mother/daughter extortionists!
I didn't think Qatar was that expensive.
I'm sorry Robby, but he said "let's face it." So it must have some merit. You just need to face it.
I mean Come On. It's 2015. Check your privilege.
When asked what he'd do with the money, the boy should say "Buy myself 70 some virgins...."
Nice. Ha.
concocting a conspiracy theory around a 14-year-old boy is a pretty impressive piece of paranoid bigotry.
You bring things which *look like* bombs until finally, like the boy who cried wolf in reverse, everybody says, "Oh, HIM. It's not a bomb. Don't worry about it."
KABOOOOOOOM
So, no fourteen year old boys have ever planned anything violent? Also, what most people here seem to be saying is that his family put him up to that; they seem to have evidence that his family are shit-stirrers, but I haven't followed those links.
Well played, scheming grifter dad!
If it was a moneymaking scam (think Westboro "Church", I guess?), then the school and coppers played right into it. Losers pay. Cut him a check and (probably don't) learn from your fuckup.
And if next time it turns out to be a bomb then they'll get sued again. They can't win here.
The attorneys win. That's what matters.
*shark-like grin*
/plaintiff lawyer
A rather strange response, as you know that the school and coppers won't be paying for it.
The taxpayers of course will. But since when do they matter?
Being one, I know firsthand that taxpayers are losers. Losers pay. How else will we learn?
You need to learn to pay up for your white privilege.
It's an arrogant and stupid move on their part. They basically blew all the goodwill they had (even the proggie dipshits at Ars have turned on them), and now they have provided the "motive" element for a bomb hoax charge.
Now, going after a kid would be a political loser, but he almost certainly didn't hatch this plan alone. If they actually come back to pursue this, Texas should give some consideration toward seeing whether they can put the dad away. It would put the rest of the grievance grifter crowd on notice as well.
This kid and his family have balls. But the U.S. seems to have a legal system that allows for - encourages even - this sort of litigation happy culture. Am I wrong to see it this way? If so, why should anyone be surprised? People are willing to go to court and destroy businesses over a fucken cake FFS.
It doesn't help Obama stuck his nose in the matter.
This is what happens when there are no risks to filing frivolous lawsuits.
The family's playing up this whole "We're from a different culture and don't understand" angle. I don't know, maybe they didn't think it might be perceived amiss when a Muslim boy brings a box with a timer into a school in this country, but they sure figured out that whole using the legal system to monetize victimization thing pretty damn quick.
Oh, and they moved to Texas from fucking NYC, so it's not as if these fuckers didn't know that some Americans might be a little sensitive about that shit. Also, the mother is an American named Sabina, so pull the other one you fuckin' con artists.
Is the mother a convert to Islam?
CLOCK DID 9:11
Woah.
WHYCOME THE JWS CALLED SICK THAT DAY HUH
I don't know, we should ask JW when he's around.
Ha. Nice.
Twas the Joooo clockmakers?!?!?!?!
Dude, MOSSAD called all the Jews to warn them of the attack they were planning.
Why is the fact it was a Zionist plot so hard to understand?
The most interesting 911 story was the one about the Pakistani kids in New York saying it was going to happen before it did. Those stories were true but the media dropped it and never followed up to find out how or why they knew.
If only the rest of us had known, somehow, that Islamists wanted to blow up the WTC. Like, I dunno, assuming they might try again after their first attempt to blow it up failed.
Googling your point leads to a story at prisonplanet referring to your claim. I hadn't heard that before---that the gist of the 9/11 plot was an open secret in extreme Muslim mosques in NYC, so much so that ordinary schoolkids were in on the main point---and frankly, it defies credibility. Although if the secret was so poorly kept within the community, and it still didn't make it out to the authorities ahead of time, maybe the guys fearing 'Syrian' refugees have a point.
The bit about flight 587 being a known terror plot, instead of the NTSB saying it was caused by the copilot getting happy feet on the rudder pedals, was another one I hadn't heard of before.
Not sure what to think, but leaning towards BS on both.
Oh, and that site is laden with malware, which is why I didn't link to it in my above post.
Ask Sheldon, he can explain it all to you me thinks.
What's Gloria Allred's cut?
Yeah, this case is right up that vile exploiter's alley isn't it?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new.....-star.html
Sean Connery had no problem enjoying the perks that went with being Bond. Too bad he didn't get the Sister Sandwich but at least he did get the better looking one.
Huh, looking at the sidebar, apparently Mel Gibson is making a WWII movie. That's pretty awesome. As crazy as he is, I do wish he would make movies more regularly.
He is a great film maker and one of the last real movie stars left. I was very sad to hear his project to play Judah Macabee fell through. That would have kicked ass.
Yes, the officials involved treated him poorly because of their ignorance and fear. OTOH the kid gets some momentary worldwide fame and gets his butt kissed by the President of the United States. I'm not clear on why the taxpayers of Irving owe him $15 million. That's an awful lot of money that could be better used for people in genuine need. Did the city waterboard him or some such?
Waterboard him? Jesus Christ Sandwich it is not like they caught him with an Advil or something.
LOL so waterboarding is reserved for serious offenses, like making a "gun" with your fingers?
Yes or letting some kid use your emergency inhaler to keep them from dying from an asthma attack. You know the really serious stuff. The small offenses like building a bomb just gets you arrested.
So, the kid's older sister got suspended for allegedly threatening to bomb her school. I mean, if she was only suspended nobody could have really believed her, but there it is. She's apparently very bitter about it, and claims that some chick lied to an administrator and got her in trouble, and because she didn't understand the culture (?) she just rolled with it instead of denying it, or something. Also, as pointed out elsewhere, the kid took the case off a clock radio and stuck it in luggage, but in this country certain politicians are so excited about "STEM" and brown people that's all it takes for national attention.
Depending on how cynical or paranoid you are, there are a few options here.
1. Everyone is telling the truth here and school officials are idiots. Parents want money because it's better to be a rich Qatari than a poor Qatari.
2. The sister is bitter because of her experience and set the kid up so she could push the persecution angle. Given the sister's alleged behavior in interviews after the fact there might be something to this. Parents want money.
3. The parents, possibly bitter about the sister's experience, or possibly just hip to the game, figured the easiest way to get out of Texas with a little bit of walkin' around money is to bait the locals.
I wouldn't rule any of those out, frankly. And as much as I believe school officials are oftentimes idiots (I live in Maryland, not too far from where the Gun Pop-Tart incident went down) I don't expect any of them to know with 100% certainty that a suitcase with a clock in it isn't a suitcase with a timer in it. I'd prefer they err on the side of caution when my kid's sitting next to this yahoo.
1. Everyone is telling the truth here and school officials are idiots. Parents want money because it's better to be a rich Qatari than a poor Qatari.
I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that the choice that assumes teachers are idiots and parents are greedy is the correct one.
I mean, nobody ever went broke betting on stupid teachers or greedy "victims". However, as I read more about this I'm leaning towards 3. The mother is an American and the family lived in NYC before they moved down to Texas, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the most generous interpretation of this shit is that the parents knew sending the kid to school with a suspect device was risky but that cooler heads would prevail.
But I'm just sayin' it smells a whole lot like the Muslim version of the ol' slip-and-fall scam.
If you can't be a Maker, then be a Taker.
teachers are idiots and parents are greedy is the correct one.
I think this seems obvious on its face.
The father is an attorney but I am sure that some other attorney came up with the idea to sue. That just isn't something that attorneys usually consider doing.
No one at the school did anything until the kid plugged it in and had the alarm go off in class.
Sounds like a hoax bomb, to me.
Also, we have seen endless SJW fake up "incidents" of racism. Expect more of this as social media makes this very easy.
Oh, and the kid was kept in handcuffs at the request of the father until his sister could get there and snap the all important photos. Yes, that's right.
This was a fake incident & the father should be arrested if he ever comes back to this country.

the kid was kept in handcuffs at the request of the father
How exactly did this transpire?
Maybe he is into that kinda thing ?
I would have thought that the alarm going off was a pretty good sign that it was, in fact, an alarm clock and not a bomb.
the kid was kept in handcuffs at the request of the father until his sister could get there and snap the all important photos. Yes, that's right.
Source?
I would have thought that the alarm going off was a pretty good sign that it was, in fact, an alarm clock and not a bomb.
Or just a poorly constructed bomb. They do fail to go off, sometimes.
The alarm was just a reminder that it was time for someone to light the cables to set it off.
The alarm was just a reminder that it was time for someone to light the cables to set it off.
On a side note, I wonder if it has occurred to any of our Top Men that it might be worthwhile for teachers and school administrators to know at least the basics of what a bomb actually looks like? Since we're worried about safety and all.
Mind you, the teachers allegedly being grownups I'd think they'd figure that out for themselves and act accordingly on their own, but I seem to be expecting too much.
While I can see some utility in that, I can also see some teachers mis-using that to construct (hopefully fake) bombs so they can be heroes for finding them, get paid time off during bomb scares, soak the taxpayers for their alleged trauma, frame kids they don't like, etc. Just get one of the science teachers or the ROTC instructor to have a look at that.
On a side note, I wonder if it has occurred to any of our Top Men that it might be worthwhile for teachers and school administrators to know at least the basics of what a bomb actually looks like?
I only half-like this solution.
On the one hand, yes, I want to scream at these adults about what an actual bomb actually looks like.
On the other hand, considering we're talking about something that by all kinds of measures was 99.999+% probably *not* a bomb if you say pretty much anything even remotely accurate or practical, it's *going* to be abused. Every breadbox in every teacher's lounge and every apple that's really closer to the size of a grapefruit is going to be a potential bomb.
On the one hand, yes, I want to scream at these adults about what an actual bomb actually looks like.
Yeah, good luck with that. The predictable reaction will be to ask you how you know so much and put you on a watchlist. That is what we have become.
There's no basics of what a bomb looks like. It can look like anything.
$15M???!!! Fuck that, give him a bag of Cheetos and a "Free Tibet" T shirt so he can fit in with the rest of the entitled little snowflakes. He wasn't chained down and waterboarded fer chrissakes. People are freaking insane.
Have Obama send him an autographed Koran.
"Apology"? For a scam perpetrated by his father? His dad should be indicted for fraud & inciting terrorism.
I just got paid $6784 working off my laptop this month. And if you think that's cool, my divorced friend has twin toddlers and made over $9k her first month. It feels so good making so much money when other people have to work for so much less. This is what I do,

This kid should get an award for pulling off this setup in such a short period of time. There is a standard workplace variant of this that takes months to get your coworkers to hate you. You document all the negativity you incite then sue. If the company hasn't instructed the individual defendants on proper workplace attitudes then they should be excluded from suit. Then the company settles or gets a judgment. It works for wine trains too.
I mean, come on, people. It's not like we're selling used cars here.
The fucking lawyer probably set them up with the play.
15 million?
Well, he was forced to meet Obama.

Given that school system has been blocked from releasing any information about the incident - I think calling for Clock Boy to get an apology is a little premature.
Applause to pointing out such abuses happen to kids (and adults) of all colors. I'd say 'All Lives Matter' but then I'll be reeducated. Even so, if handcuffing and terrorizing a kid isn't an appropriate complaint I'm not sure what is. People have to homeschool their kids these days just to keep them safe from the people 'keeping them safe'.
Love it.
Fucking Cthulhu. Thinks he's so awesome just cause he's an Old One.
Are Cthulhu's wings even remotely capable of generating lift? He is rather large. I have to assume those wings are vestigial.
I think he was trying to provoke a response.
As time goes by, this looks more likely.
But it only works when you are trying to provoke stupid jackasses.
Wait he's 14? I thought he was only 8 and I wasn't impressed by his stupid ass clock.
As an aside, by the time every kid in America reaches first grade, they have seen enough TV and movies to know what "dynamite" and "C4" looks like.
If the "clock" had been intended to look like a fake bomb, it would have had a brick of playdough or some tubes of shit to mimic explosives.
This was just a fucking disassembled commercial clock. You would have to be a real idiot to think it looks like a bomb.
What Tundra said. Though I wouldn't let a first grader play with 120v equipment, 4xAA which wouldn't be enough to drive that big honking LED display for more than a few seconds. FIrst grade is a bit of an exaggeration, but a mildly clever 10-12 yo, sure.
Elder privilege.
Ha! As if that would happen.
This.
Plenty of makeshift bombs in movies resemble Ahmed's homemade clock - suitcase exterior, black interior, protruding wires, (what looks like) countdown display, beeping noise, etc. The teachers at the school were probably born in the 70's and 80's and grew up watching classic action films in which defusing the bomb required cutting the right wires as the counter winded down.
If you showed a picture of the clock to random people and asked them to identify it without providing context, 80% of the people would call it a bomb. If a Muslim boy walked around he airport carrying that exact same thing, TSA would be over him like white on rice.
Sexual selection. Just don't want to see the girl...
Cthulu is a "she".
Or so I've been told by my super-nerd friends. Cause I wouldn't know.
Great Cthulhu is an 'It' insofar as dimensionally limited thoughts are capable of understanding. Merely attempting comprehension can cause cerebral liquefaction. It has all the sexual characteristics It needs.
It's wings are ornamental, not vestigial. It wants wings, It has wings.
But It is large in comparison to the miniscule size of this world. When It is in It's rightful place, It is merely majestic.
Too bad the company fire wall blocks that one, but I can see the link goes to Wiley Coyote.
The modern TV bomb would have a tank of glowing liquid and a cell phone detonator.
Carly scored with a lot of men. She must have had some kind of hidden talent. But yeah, she never did it for me. Her sister in contrast looked pretty cute.
She kind of reminds me of this.
More Nightmarish, IMO.
Getting sisters to do each other in front of you and also do you at the same time is a huge win.
Carly scored with a lot of men.
Maybe she opened that gaping mouth of hers and threatened to bite their heads off of they didn't put out.
Or maybe that gaping mouth had other virtues.
Except the briefcase was fucking open and there is nothing in the fucking case that looks remotely like explosives.
It was two fucking circuit cards, some ribbon cable, and a fucking power supply with a cord to plug into a wall socket.
I have never, and I mean absolutely fucking never, seen any TV or movie bomb that had a fucking power cord.
Plenty of makeshift bombs in movies resemble Ahmed's homemade clock
Google "movie briefcase bomb". There's quite a selection, but its not hard to say that this doesn't look super-dissimilar. Some have visible "explosives", some don't.
To me, the question is: why did he set the alarm to go off in class, unless it was to provoke a response?
I would venture a guess that binary concepts of sexuality are largely meaningless when it comes to Old Ones.
So much for "In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming."
Tell your supernerd friends they are idiots. Its an eldritch abomination - 'sex' is as relevant a label as 'good' or 'evil' is. If they paid any attention to the core concepts of the mythos they would understand that.
"pLug me iN, kkthxBai"
Bombs on tv often don't have visible explosives. Sometimes they'll have the metal cans with wires coming out of it, but just as often they'll just be a mass of wires with a red countdown clock on it. Most teachers don't have enough experience with electronics to have any clue what circuit cards, ribbon cables, or power supplies look like. Some can't even find the on button for their freaking computer. Consider the general complete lack of knowledge of electronics it is entirely reasonable to think this looks like a bomb to most people.
I think the Cthulhu mythos god is male and has courtesans, but it was more brought up in the context that he didn't give two flying fucks about the unimportant Old Ones, much less something as insignificant as humans.
Consider the general complete lack of knowledge of electronics it is entirely reasonable to think this looks like a bomb to most people.
Most people are stupid, which is why democracy is evil.
This should have never gotten past the first cop looking inside the case and knowing with certainty that it wasn't a bomb.
*Two* clear tanks of differently colored liquids that are backlit and, shortly before detonation, are shown being mixed with each other (binary explosive, natch) and cell phone innards as a detonator with a 7-segment display on the side counting down the time.
Bonus points for an ominous humming that increases in pitch and volume as the countdown cycles.
Courtesans - are not necessarily *sexual*, let alone in anyway that is analogous to what we consider 'sex'.
Courtesans are female courtiers.
"A courtesan was originally a courtier, which means a person who attends the court of a monarch or other powerful person."
Advisers, attendants, companions-for-pay, entertainers - these are the roles of courtiers/courtesans.
And for 'in *his* house . . .' - translator's choice.
Any information on what the courtesans look like?
My whole like I have been on the outside of these Cthulhu references.
What am I supposed to read again?
I was at GenCon Origins when Cthulhu was drafted for president in like 1992. "The worst of all worlds." It is high time I caught up.
"Courtesans - are not necessarily *sexual*, let alone in anyway that is analogous to what we consider 'sex'."
No evil without sex. Not to mention that "female" indicates sex (complementarity, reproduction).
No shit. I think the kid actually is around room temperature IQ. Watch his interviews, he is really slow. I built much more advanced electronics when I was 8, by 14 we were building full computers, the kid is a fucking teenager and can only put a fucking clock in a box ? That is pure retarded.
This is just wrong btw. Look at some pics of IEDs, saw dozens of different variations while deployed to islamite land. There is no perfect version or standard look to them and I doubt a school teacher would know the difference.
You're asking for a friend, right?
This is what is so interesting about the reason commentariat, midway through a discussion it wanders off to nerdsplain arcane details of the Cthulhu Mythos. Carry on!
Any decent H.P. Lovecraft reader will work, I guess. Start with, At The Mountains Of Madness? Then abandon Lovecraft, and go to Charles Stross's Laundry Series; he's a lot more fun.
Do not sacrilege the Mythos with references to that Derleth filth. No Elder Gods. Only Old Ones.
