Is There Really Any Way to Stop College Students From Wasting Money on Their Edumications?
You can go to college for $60,000 total or $160,000. Is that really a tough decision? And what school should accept you if you pick the latter?
I find Pacific Standard to be one of the best all-around reads on the web today. A new story, "Confessions of a For-Profit College Inspector," by Michael Fitzgerald is a well-written article about the author's stint as an in-house regulator of an unnamed for-profit college (think DeVry, University of Phoenix, etc.). In the middle of the story, which is very much in the "college-loan-debt is a big, big problem" tradition, comes this confession:
When I applied to college, the most appealing acceptance letters had come from the University of Vermont and Carnegie Mellon University. The former came with a scholarship, plus a chance to establish residency in the state, amounting to a bill of under $15,000 per year. The latter offered no such incentives: charges were $40,960 for tuition, fees, room, and board for the first year, and they increased each year thereafter. But I knew Carnegie Mellon ranked high academically, and I didn't think much about the financial consequences in practice.
This sort of admission is pretty fascinating, especially in a story ostensibly about sleazy practices of for-profit colleges (and let's be honest: all colleges are run for profit, even if they are technically nonprofit corporate entities). Fitzgerald, who comes from a lower-income background but is sharp enough to get into good schools, is handed an opportunity to get a B.A. at UVM for less than $60,000 in total but instead opts for the joint costing over $40,000 per year. But it's somebody else's fault, or something:
I wish anyone involved in my indebtedness—my family, Carnegie Mellon, the federal government, the state of Pennsylvania, or even the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (which accredits both Carnegie Mellon and many of the for-profit schools I called as a fake prospective student) had asked me what I planned to major in and what career I aspired to. Then, maybe, when I'd said "English" and "writer," they'd have denied me a $5 loan for cab fare home, or told me they'd rather see an armed robber in their office. I would have had to seek out a solid, affordable state school. I would not have tens of thousands of dollars in outstanding loans.
Yeah, no. A state school would have doubtlessly been cheaper than Carnegie Mellon (indeed, UVM is a state school that offered Fitzgerald a tremendously better deal, and in a tremendously better location to boot). But let's kill the canard that being an English major is a career death sentence. A 2014 study of recent college grads found that English majors had a lower unemployment rate than did econ majors. There's plently of work out there for those willing to do it and being to sling words and synthesize information (as Fitzgerald does extremely well) is always a meal ticket. In any case, the larger point of the study is that however tough it may be for college grads, it's always tougher for non-college grads.
Fitzgerald notes at some point in the story that he's carrying over $70,000 in debt. And again, despite his own personal tale, what he's really worried about is the for-profit racket, from which relatively few people graduate.
The Obama administration has made some efforts to address this vast, tangled problem, going after for-profit colleges by implementing the so-called gainful-employment rule, which can bar schools from accepting federal aid if their graduates' annual loan re-payments exceed 12 percent of their total earnings. It has also taken major steps toward enrolling students in income-based re-payment plans that limit the percentage of their monthly income that can go toward debt payments. Many college companies, including Big School, are facing multimillion-dollar lawsuits from the Department of Justice over their recruiting practices—the practices I was screening for in the summer of 2008.
Read the whole thing, which is, as I noted, well-written, wry, and highly informative.
This type of story always leaves me wondering: So what's the next step, really? Is it denying student loans and easy credit to people who don't really need them? A recent New York Federal Reserve study shows pretty conclusively what basic theory suggests: Large amounts of free and reduced-price money in the form of grants and loans and financial aid simply drives up the cost of higher education. Figuring out how to help folks who can't afford college out of pocket without making school more expensive for everyone is no easy matter. But killing credit for poor folks is not much of answer. I know because I used all sorts of credit not simply to fund my own higher education (I paid for my bachelor's, master's, and doctorate out of my pocket) but my early adulthood too. And the answer isn't to dwell on the relatively few people who always show up in college-debt horror stories. The vast majority of student borrowers are pretty smart and pretty responsible. According to an Urban Institute study released earlier this year, only about 10 percent of recent B.A. grads had borrowed $50,000 or more. Thirty percent didn't borrow at all and the average amount is closer to $25,000, with the median lower still.
There are many problems with the government heavily subsidizing college tuition (first and foremost, as mentioned, it drives up the cost of education). But there's relatively little to complain about from the borrower's side. Indeed, if your main complaint is that it's too easy for you to get money, that's gonna fall on mostly deaf ears. And it should. And for god's sake, if you're not wealthy, go to the cheapest school you can afford, because it really doesn't matter in the end which joint you attend (though it does matter which schools you can get into).

Yes, there is a way. That way is known as incentives. It won't happen without a massive overhaul of higher education, which won't happen because far too many interested parties have skin in perpetuating the game.
We should be providing incentives to learn?
Absurd.
nice job of missing the point. Did you try to miss it? I hope so because the alternative is not encouraging.
"...and being to sling words and synthesize information (as Fitzgerald does extremely well)..."
(...and as Gillespie's copy editor obviously doesn't do all that well, apparently)
Time and again I have offered to come onboard as Reason's telecommuting copy editor, but no, they'd rather drop the $15k/yr on stocking their appletini bar.
"" their appletini bar.""
(sees a lonely Cosmopolitan in the corner, feeling unloved)
I like vodka about as well as the next guy, but what's with the aversion to tasting your liquor? What's wrong with a stiff gin drink?
Ahhh, gin. Homemade juniper berry infused tonic. Perfect.
I wouldn't know. I like whiskey and beer and not much else except the odd Dark & Stormy during the summer or Greyhound with brunch.
*for a while i drank Gimlets when i was suited and it was more of a pimp-fashion-accessory, but holy god do they cause heartburn if you drink too many.
I like the sour and bitter drinks personally. Will take a Cosmopolitain over an appletini. But would prefer a Sidecar or a White Lady.
There's plently of work out there for those willing to do it and being to sling words and synthesize information (as Fitzgerald does extremely well) is always a meal ticket.
Priceless.
It's this kind of impenetrable gibberish that makes you perfect for us!
I need other people to pay for the consequences of my bad decisions.
In this day and age, that could be a college kid, a Wall Street trader in a $2000 suit, someone in a police uniform, or various politicians and pubsec employees.
So why do we all not live for free?
I'm free to finance others' bad decisions!
Figuring out how to help folks who can't afford college out of pocket without making school more expensive for everyone is no easy matter.
Offer people a cheaper alternative for getting job-training than college. The people who still need the training provided by a college education will probably still be able to get it through scholarships. People, both rich and poor, who never really needed to go to college will have a better route.
But this will not happen as long as we continue to fetishize college.
and once again, the pull quote ignores why college tuition has become unaffordable.
What about fetishizing college students? Helps or hurts?
Helps. Potential revenue source.
Doms or subs? Makes a difference you know...
Who cares? I'm just peeking through the windows.
"a... series of scandals hit the industry, with revelations of people being plucked out of welfare lines and signed up for maximum federal loan amounts, sometimes even without the person's consent. This led to the Higher Education Amendments of 1992, which, for the first time, made a college ineligible for federal loans if more than a quarter of its students defaulted on their loans within two years. This shut down many schools."
Which is actually very similar to the Federal Housing Loan scandal that HUD was involved with, where lenders dumped Federal money on unqualified borrowers and then re-possessed the properties at horrifying discounts, leaving the debt on the borrower and allowing developers to take possession of entire urban neighborhoods
Which is EXACTLY why we need more federal Free Money for students!! what could go wrong?
"...and being to sling words coffees and synthesize information sandwiches..."
The Obama administration has made some efforts to address this vast, tangled problem,
Its actually a very simple problem: people going stupidly into debt.
The Obama administration is adding vast, tangled regulation to it, but that's a whole separate problem of its own.
+1 executive feint
What the hell is that in the top picture?
beer bong
Yeah.....it's just that, wouldn't it make more sense to show someone actually using it? That pic looks like B-roll stuff. In fact, it looks like they're ready to pour, yet the guy the green shirt isn't exactly ready...or, something like that.
The guy just finished using the bong! You people.
I can't be certain, but I want to say it's come up here before?possibly a hazing gone wrong, or an article on binging and underage drinking, or somesuch. It looks familiar.
OK, that gives some perspective. I'm gonna go with spittoon's hypothesis.
Butt chugging.
I can't believe no one remembered that.
Please, no...
It's what you're seeing.
Well, trying not to.
Back in the fucking late 80's before I was goddamn pagan individualist switch-legged spacecraft noid I would hitch a ride from mom's house with a fucking religious nut and go to church and try and try to find that fuck Jesus. Did this for a year after moving from pothole city Toledo into the fucking Ohio rural fucking weird ass shit which screams mundane NOT weird. BUT, Ohio rural gets fucking different when the sun goes down on all the fucking tons of ponds these people like.
The dude I hitched a ride with was like fucking 10 years older and sort of bald and small and adorable. His face looked like a biscuit, man. I would eat the fucking face of this dude and then look at the bland landscape and pretend to forget that I could eat his face on the way to church.
Have you considered ministerial work? Because I would love to see the sermons you deliver.
I once considered sending 14 Asian hotties to your apartment on that street with the flickering lamp posts.
So, he would talk about his turds every fucking morning on the way to church for a year. I grew to understand the multitudes of turds, bro. Like fucking shit analysis on the way to kneel to jesus and all and I decided to stop pretending I hated his study of fucking turds and learn from this man's interpretation of the refuse spitting from his pooper. Learn I did and forget turds not. Fucking ingrained turd psyops fucked me up since the 80's and this biscuit faced fucker teaching me about turds. Man, turds are the art of the poop.
Turds are your motherfucking ass painting a message from inside your goddamn body.
You gotta love the internet, because I remembered the bit about Goethe and Zappa and goddam...
The dairy cows of 18th Century Weimar disturbed the German poet Goethe at least as much as the turkey farms of Palmdale, California, bothered Frank Zappa in the Fifties. Yet, in spite of all the cow dung in the street, Goethe managed to write Faust, whereas Zappa for the life of him can't seem to get the turkey shit out of his head.
I don't know - this seems like a decent rule. *If* it was applied across the board to colleges accepting federal aid.
There's no reason why a state or a 'non-profit' school shouldn't be looked at just as harshly. they not any *less* likely to overprice their educational offerings and a degree you paid too much for is a degree you paid too much for - no matter what school you got it from.
Someone just vaulted up to the top of Crusty's "favorite Reason employee" list.
Crusty-n-Nick 4 eva.
Crusty and old comets spinning out of control and crashing into scared planets. THAT is the CRUSTY way. Crusty juggles balls, boobs, assies, and comets. Pretty sure NASA needs to discover this ultra-sexay pary of Cousin Crusty in case shit goes down hard.
I can't argue with that.
On a W.S, Burroughs kick, AC?
I think bass in all the fucking songs was discovered by old witches with drums and tunes by divining deep space death.
I think all song grains are as the grains of beech and oak and oceans and transmissions from the dying molecules in the super dank deep where no NASA can go but songs go.
Deep space is about as real as a dark blanket on a tall building. Nothing out there is real. It is all dead and our galaxy is all that is left, man. Luckily, we won't die with this thing like those horribly sad fucks several thousand years ahead. But space isn't alive, bro. Our neck of the puddle of universes is shrinking not expanding, man.
NASA is the only sex space beyond earth will experience. We penetrate her with shiny cocks filled with sex slaves. So, NASA is a space pimp for a dead beyond which makes NASA a zombie space whore supplier. Of which I refuse to judge, man. I refuse to judge NASA for fucking space with their whore metal cocks. I'm wondering if a lovely astronaut exits NASA's space cock is that astronaut technically space jizz? YES!!
Astronauts are space fucking jizz and space jizz is motherfucking awesome!
It's literally a national tragedy when NASA can't get it up.
FoE, the loving baby boy of the these places... I agree.
Even as a monocle-polishing cosmoglibertarian who believes that immigrant orphans should be mowing my lawn, I agree with this:
Seattle has been "fixing" homelessness since the day I moved here in the late eighties, even promising that homelessness would be "solved" a little over ten years ago.
As you can guess, it's how we get there that's going to be the kicker.
Regardless, every empty space in Seattle has become a homeless encampment over the last seven or eight years, reaching a nadir in the last two years or so.
http://www.seattletimes.com/se.....elessness/
Nothing quite increases the tax-base like making sure to attract as many vagrants and crazy people into the downtown area as you can
I find it hard to believe they're newly minted homeless people*. I believe that Seattle through policies, like San Francisco, has become a kind of homeless mecca, drawing the homeless from hundreds of miles around.
*I could be convinced otherwise with proper data, which I don't have.
Maybe it's a westward push. Albuquerque has seen a huge influx of roadside panhandlers since spring. Never seen anything like it: they're on every busy intersection and offramp.
Roadside panhandlers have become common in central Virginia, too. I don't know why.
In SF, there are plenty of 'homeless' who are not lacking in physical abilities, nor mental (not to say Mensa is recruiting, but hey). And there are jobs on farms out in the central valley where it costs a good bit less to live.
But SF taxpayers both gripe that they are here and also gripe about 'income disparity', after paying bums to live here.
Diane should fucking jam a gun in the head of the next NASA flight and go into space and have that bitch captain fly her/him/thou unto a satellite armed with nukes and point that shit at her favorite target tonight and waste that bitch with a little slender hell raising rocket.
It's space, babe, bro, dude. love. thing... you will get away with it.
The FACT is that degrees and credentials outweight skills and abilities in corporate America. It's really just an easier metric for HR departments to use. So all this bullshit talk about the worthlessness of degrees fails to take in accoint any semblance of reality. It's a precious thought though.
It's really just an easier metric for HR departments to use.
*nods in agreement*
Yeah, Nick has zero clue as to how corporate America works and the power of the paper.
I'd be interested in the pedigree of Reason writers in this matter.
You are not allowed to give a job applicant an IQ test. For technically intensive jobs a college degree acts as a proxy for one. It also says something about the applicant's ability to finish at least one project he started.
I don't think this a big problem for private industry. The US software industry has done fine, thus far, without being testy about job applicants' educational background.
The scary part to me is in government hiring. Jimmy Carter abolished the objective civil service exam and replaced it with a college degree in something or other.
"For technically intensive jobs a college degree acts as a proxy for one."
My place of employment isn't hiring engineers with French literature or English degrees.
I think the problem resides somewhere between going to college to learn a marketable skill that can serve as a credential to enter a job market, and going to college for college sake.
The vast, vast majority of positions are filled by networking, not by applying through some HR department. Some manager has a need, thinks about a specific person they think would fit the role, and then writes a job description fitting that person.
As someone who never graduated, it sucked big time when I first started out. I gave up trying to get a dream job and focused on doing the best job I could where I worked, and getting experience where it mattered. I met a lot of great people, and then when they got jobs at other companies, they brought me in to work with them.
Now, with 15 years of experience under my belt, I know that my college education won't even be something that people look at.
Look- if you don't have a degree, don't make excuses for yourself. Do a good job at the job you have. Meet people around the company and help those people that work in stuff that interests you. Be competent in meetings- this is key- every meeting with people outside your team is a job interview. Don't burn bridges with anyone, ever.
^Truth to Power^
"Now, with 15 years of experience under my belt, I know that my college education won't even be something that people look at."
I used to think that, but I'm not so sure anymore.
I like to bite air with dragon piss in my mouth.
Why is crazy expensive private college a bad thing? People need to be held accountable for their actions.
My cousin is choosing to go to a private religious school, live on campus, and not work. Literally all the worst moves financially.
I worked part time (32 hours a week), lived at home and went to a junior college for my first two years.
Why should I feel sorry she's going to have a ton of debt and I don't?
because you are a pragmatic individual and modern society tolerates us like volcanoes and tsunamis?
"Why should I feel sorry she's going to have a ton of debt and I don't?
Because her loans are backed by your taxes?
What can you do? The world no longer needs ditch diggers.
Yes it does.
Then why do America's Elite Universities keep churning them out with advanced degrees?
Those aren't ditch-diggers - they are specialists in post holes.
How about a Fresca?

I love N Gillespie. I love him like fucking my petite blonde wife on a Saturday afternoon with her right leg up on the Cali Bed on the top floor with the Maple trees gleaming down in the Ohio fall upon my fat cock entering her juicy canyon. She searched for lights and colors to prepare her tight behind for my fat entrance INTO her body, man. I love N Gillespie as my cock slid into her and she stiffened and grabbed the shits in the light of a fall afternoon where the fucking millions of leaves burst into our bedroom while we fucked and I loved N Gillespie. My fat cock penetrated the blonde deep space of this pretty battalion swerving and curving and screaming and as she screamed for the end of the earth in a hoarse cutting curdling cry I spewed all my juices into her pussy and whispered N Gillespie...
If you love things you should fuck by them... fuck off inattentive distracted odd posers...
"The heart has no bones," you say, "so it won't break." But the purpose of loving is the pounding it takes.
I fucked my favorite pussy with N Gillespie bubble above my fuck cock penetrating the lips of Jesus.
Be where Jesus arose and earned a spaceship and flew off away from the silly christians who are co-dependant shits Jebus hates...
(and let's be honest: all colleges are run for profit, even if they are technically nonprofit corporate entities)
Most private businesses are not run for profit either. Any business that has filed as an S-Corporation does not, by definition, make a profit. The vast majority of American businesses are S-Corps or LLCs - pass-through corporations. These businesses are run to make money for the owners and shareholders and to pay the employees. There are no retained earning. The reason for not retaining earnings is that owners will be taxed 15% on the corporate profit and another 15% (of what's left) should they withdrawal the profit to their own incomes.
I am not an accountant, but my understanding of a profit is very specific. A profit is an after tax, after dividend, retained earning. That is very difficult to accomplish in US. Some business do it for sure. My retirement investment portfolio is betting on this though it has flat-lined for a decade.
A university, it seems (correct me if I'm wrong), can retain earnings without being taxed. Like the Roman Catholic church. I am not against that!
That's just a Tax Thing.
You can have a C-Corporation with No retained earnings and it would work effectively as an S-Corp.
The K-1 Pass-through portion of an S-Corp is a PROFIT. A single-owner corporation can have for example:
Owner Salary = $100,000
This is true, Alice. You operate a C-Corp just like an S-Corp, with no retained earnings. I made the mistake (hubris) of starting a C-Corp with high hopes. That's my fallback.
Well now that certainly makes a lot of sense dude.

Who cares about BAs, whats the number for BSs?
As far as I can tell, the Urban Institute study didn't disaggregate BAs and BSs in their report. Those numbers are for Bachelor's degrees, total.
Blame Gillespie's lazy wording
I figured as much. What can you expect from an english major?
My degree wasnt technically BS either, it was a BNE.
Bachelor of Nudity Examination?
Yes.

Yeah, I got a week-long blackout a few years ago. I had to smell the food I removed my freezer. Problems in paradise.

A 2014 study of recent college grads found that English majors had a lower unemployment rate than did econ majors.
Talk about cherry picking. English had a worse unemployment rate than almost any other major. It's unlikely people who are good at wordsmithing and assembling information needed a college education to be good at it.
Yeah, but they probably need the credentials to be hired.
Remember a year or two ago when Reason was looking for an editor? Despite all their articles saying college wasn't necessary for people, they wanted a college grad to be their editor...
In pretty much every other area primarily funded by the government, federal dollars come with federal price controls and federal audits to make sure the money isn't being wasted. Somehow universities have gotten away without having these, and they are wasting money left and right (but mostly left).
My wife's sister-in-law is an admissions officer at a top-20 university. She doesn't speak English beyond a 3rd grade level. That's kind of interesting because everyone else in her family (Chinese) has learned to speak English fluently. In fairness I've been told she's deaf in one ear. But I've asked to pass the salt in the both and she doesn't respond. But then she hears a knock on the door.
She sounds like a lot of physics and math teachers I had in college.
They were cheap, I guess though. (Not for the students, but I guess the University)

This type of story always leaves me wondering: So what's the next step, really? Is it denying student loans and easy credit to people who don't really need them?
Fucking squirrels.
The correct way to think about this question is to ask what a private bank would do if they were lending the money. They would most likely calibrate loan eligibility, and interest rates, to the likelihood of being repaid.
That doesn't mean no loans for students that don't "need" them. It means no loans (or higher interest rates) for studying subjects with poor employment prospects, or for students with poor grades.
Prospective college students have no credit history of their own. If you treat it like a normal loan, then it's going to hinge on the parents' willingness to be cosigners and their own creditworthiness. AKA kids from poor families won't be able to get loans for college. Maybe you're OK with that, but let's be up front about that fact.
I am okay with that. Kids from poor families can work thru college and have an advantage over the kids whose parents get them loans.
parents can help, but so can good SAT scores and a sensible choice of occupation. If only rich kids with C averages can afford to major in women's studies, I'm ok with that.
Nope I think it is inevitable.

I would tell young people to enroll part-time in some cheap local college for the social aspects, work (also part-time if possible) at some job that has interest for you, and get all the knowledge you need from Google, the public library, or anywhere for free. That piece of paper called a diploma is not important in the long run.
Now, if you want to be a brain surgeon or ballet dancer or something that actually NEEDS schooling, that's a different thing.
Also, get govt OUT of education wherever possible; they ALWAYS screw it up and make it cost more.
The problem isn't the English major. It's the writing career. English majors can do well in business or Law. It's just that those aren't the career paths they necessarily had in mind.
Between Agile Cyborg in perfect form and the Hihn-denburg crashing and shitting all over this was the most entertaining thing I've seen on Reason in a long while.
I think student will never stop wasting money. Students just can't pay more than they pay today. Price for college tuition hold stay the same, otherwise youth will just drown in debt! Attending and studying in college should be much more affordable than it is today. Lots of students don't know what to do because they have to choose between their future career opportunities and getting in debt. Everything wouldn't be so bad if all the graduates would have a chance to get employed and work on decent job. But unfortunately, many of young people visit PaydayLoansOnlineService.com to make payments on their loans and don't know anything about their future.
"I don't have the resources of a think tank or foundation"
Do you still have your own teeth?
"How about the obvious fraud?"
Fraud as in stating it is tuition only and then offering other options if they are required at additional costs? That sort of fraud?
(laughing)
hihn. the micheal.
would you sell me your spaceship because I am drunk enough to pay asking, bearbaloo.
" I've rarely received more sheer joy here"
(polite applause)
That's about how I picture Hihn in real life.
I love you gil
I am with you. Shut down the comments, Koch brothers. Enough is enough. Libertarianism is not about gangs and bullies and Jew lovers and thugs, it is about being able to share your independent thoughts.
Which is why I want all of these freaks silenced.

"(smirk) Sevo's thuggery fucks up AGAIN! Dumbass defends public subsidies and proves he can neither think nor read!"
I'm sure you hope that exercise in pedantry is seen by others as something other than a walk-back of your fucking ignorant claim of 'fraud'; fail.
Well, maybe not. You got turd, with whom I'm sure you share a lot. The imbecile Jack shows up from time to time, so you might have another kindred spirit.
Hard to admit, but Tony is probably too smart for you.
Fuck off, you tired old piece of shit.
UUUUH, OOOH!
Tired old piece of shit is *collecting evidence*! Of *bullying!* By those who call him on his bullshit! And find him a tired old piece of shit with nothing to add to the conversation!
You're right, MIke! Guilty as charged!
(sniggering)
(hooting)
(laughing)
(stamping foot on floor)
(Shouting "Put it On!" - oops, wrong show!)
Relax dude. Nothing wrong with briefs, and those are legit moves. If I were you I'd take it as a compliment.
LP, no. That dude is pure genius.
Pics?
Here, have a tissue.
Can someone explain to me what this all about? Was there a post deleted (or hidden by my fascr)? You all seem to be referring to something that's not appearing on the thread for me.

(smirk) Sevo's thuggery fucks up AGAIN! Dumbass defends public subsidies and proves he can neither think nor read!
I'll make it easy for everyone to laugh at Sevo. The cost comparison as published. "...:" separates the two schools, if needed for any other thugs.
When I applied to college, the most appealing acceptance letters had come from the University of Vermont and Carnegie Mellon University. The former came with a scholarship, plus a chance to establish residency in the state, amounting to a bill of under $15,000 per year......The latter offered no such incentives: charges were $40,960 for tuition, fees, room, and board for the first year, and they increased each year thereafter.
Umm, Carnegie is the latter (snicker)
At the psychopath level, where do we see "offering other options if they are required at additional cost"? Why I checked UV web page for facts. (gasp)
Lesson for the day. Cyber-bulling in Reason's comments.is like a street gang. The thugs travel in packs defending each other. They drive away independent thinkers, then look around and high five each other that everyone agrees. What does that say about libertarianism to the millions of new visitors who come here to explore? And is the Truth Squad the greatest obstacle to achieving liberty?
(This page added to many others, in my demand that the Kochs shut down the comments here.)
HM blocked Hihn. Uh-oh, he is going to come after you...

"Can someone explain to me what this all about?"
Mike labors under the delusion that a statement by him is "fact" and any dispute of that is "bullying".
He made the claim that there was fraud where there was none at all and then attempted to justify the claim/walk it back by a combination of word salad and pedantry.
What you're not seeing was never there; the evidence of anything like fraud. But that's not about to stop mike (laughing).
Yeah I'm with you. I've read the comment thread twice and have no idea what the hell he's talking about.
the last sentence was mine.
Actually, I haven't blocked him. I'm just trying to figure out what he's going off on Gilmore about. It seems he's hooting and hollering that he got one over on Gilly, but for the life of me, I haven't seen anything that would suggest that. Is he so delusional that he's imagining posts that aren't there? Is his word salad suggestive of schizoaffective disorder? However, beyond that morbid curiosity, I give less than a picoshit about this whole thing.
Yes to everything.
Yes, Hihn is really too stupid to waste time on. A pretentious moron who expects people to proclaim his comments the most brilliant revelations ever delivered, when they are in fact generally boring and obvious observations that high school sophomore could have made. And then whines and cries and complains of being "bullied" when people don't declare him an amazing super-genius. He reminds me of the college kids who go around demanding a "safe space" where they won't be "threatened" by upsetting opinions. M. Hihn wants Reason to be a "safe space" where he can safely continue to believe in his own awesomeness without being threatened by other people attempting to disabuse him of that delusion.
You expect your entire pile of bullshit to be quoted?
Fuck off, you tired piece of shit.
"Keep watching. The attacks will continue. Belligerent Blowhards Uber Alles"
Attacks? You mean accurate comments on your bullshit?
You do nothing here other than show up, spout irrelevancies then spend the rest of your visits claiming you're 'misunderstood' and 'bullied'. Poor, poor, poor, Mike.
Well, no, you're not misunderstood at all; you are very easy to understand. You're a tired old fart, flogging 'ideas' even older (and more wrong, if that's possible) than you are. And you're deserving of every bit of derision that is properly heaped upon you every time you blowhard your way here; that's not 'bullying', that's calling you on your bullshit.
Do you have a wife? Would you please go whine to her on how you're 'bullied' by anonymous names on a web site? Maybe she's smart enough to point out that you may be old but you seem never to have grown up.
Is that clear enough for an imbecile like you to understand? Do I need to use words with fewer syllables to get it across?
Trying to pick on AC is a new low for you Hinh.
The only place it makes sense is in his head. Kinda feel sorry for the guy. Old man screams at cloud.

"Trying to pick on AC is a new low for you Hinh."
Well, mike is 'bullied' when he posts his bullshit here, so if you're a victim, why, there is no depth which is denied you.
And poor mike is a victim! Just read what he posts! Everybody is 'bullying' him! It is quite pathetic, if you get what I mean, and I think you do.
Mike is a senile old man. He'd be worthy of our pity, if he wasn't such an asshole.
Yup. Bullies always cry the loudest when you stand up to them. =)

Logic doesn't work, so I'm afraid you're right. If he didn't have the rep, I'd suspect we were visited once more by White Indian; the same sort of denial, 'big lie' claims, presumption of importance; a general disconnect with reality.
Pathetic..
I rest my case.
Proof that you're shuffling 46.
"But I get more proof for the Kochs."
Mike, look, no one cares about your "proofs". No one. Not "the Kochs", not the libertarian party, not the folks down the street, no one. Well, maybe your wife might be concerned.
Maybe you're just drunk; go to bed and sleep it off. But maybe you have more problems, I don't know. But if you do, a web site comment list ain't gonna help.
Talk to your doctor for starters; maybe he or she can give you some direction for assistance. This is not the place to look for help. All you get here is the laughter you so richly deserve.
Nom nom nom nom nom nom nom
Do you have any children?
Normally a "bully" is an isolated individual who targets the weakest members of a group, not the vast majority of the group, in near unanimity. You think you would have noticed by now that you have no friends on Reason whatsoever, Mike. Perhaps you should think about why that is. Maybe there is something about your style of interacting with people that is offputting, eh?

Cool story bro.
I suppose that was a silly question.
Seriously Hinh. Sober up, and get some help.
Michael !!!! You need to stop drinking !!! You are scaring the Grandkid's !!!!
