Punch a cop. She's out.
Hello.
"A white author used a Chinese pseudonym to increase the chances that his poem would be published. It worked. Is he history's greatest monster?"
It's the Elizabeth Warren method of advancement.
6 minutes in an only 11 comments? Slow day I guess.
There were like 6000 in AM links after 6 minutes.

THE UNIVERSE IS SINGING TO MY BRAAAAAAIIIIN
That's what happened, huh? Something was/is wrong, but I had no idea of the change.
There are some great quotes from that article.
"poet and Chapman University professor Victoria Chang told The Washington Post. "And it diminishes categorically all of our accomplishments. He sort of implies that minorities are published because we're minorities, not because of our work. That's just insulting because it strips everything we've worked so hard for."
Hmm, Ms Chang, now why might that be?
Implies = demonstrates
Exactly.
If he were doing it as a sociology experiment, he'd have very good data.
Hmmm, Chapman university. They have a sign on every 3rd freeway exit here.
Whereas Sherman Alexie, who edited the collection, said that explicitly.
Sherman Alexie is a good writer.
But those who have met him in person invariably report that he's also a dick. That is not unusual, good writers are often dicks. I call it Harlan's Law.
Oh I'm sure. Of all the creative/artistic professions, it seems like writers, novelists in particular, are dicks. God complex or something.
I'm presently working my way through the complete works of Michel Houellenbecq. There may not be a more surly asshole on the planet. He is my spirit animal. Can't wait for Submission to drop stateside.
Houellebecq is my favorite writer by far. I buy (pre-order) his books the day they become available (in the US or UK before I learned French, in France nowadays). Submission is very good, but it's hard to exceed The Elementary Particles.
You're a really good writer!
NO EXCEPTIONS
I call it Philip K's law.
*narrows gaze*
Sounds like she should be mad at the legions of social justice advocates for publishing something just because he was a supposed minority, if that's really what she's concenrend about. But judging by her use of terms like "cultural appropriation" and "from a position of privilege", I'd say she is precisely to blame for the bigotry of low expectations that she believes is cheapening "her" minority accomplishments.
Yet I'm sure these same people applauded the female writers of the past (George Eliot, A. M. Barnard, etc.) who used men's names to get published. It's unfortunate that writers still need to assume pen names to get recognition. But it also exposes the Progressive tendency for retribution. Women and minorities had a hard time getting published in the past, so of course they have to silence the voices of today's white men who had no hand in past discriminations. But that doesn't matter. There was an in justice and someone has to pay!
"My name used to be Donna Changsteen."
I'm not taking poetry from some white guy from Indiana!
Bitchin' handle, dude!!!!!
Where blind, to the extent that he could means not blind.
And he acknowledged that he was "more amenable" to the poem because he thought its author was Chinese American.
Seems like Victoria Chang shouldn't be mad at the author for "impl[ying] that minorities are published because we're minorities, not because of our work." She should be mad at the publisher, who said exactly that.
Someone should suggest she try an experiment to find out and submit some poetry using a European sounding surname.
Turnabout is fair play, bitches.
That it is, and it is hilarious.
One good thing about SJWs is that they are so easily manipulated.
And so logically and internally inconsistent that they can't not provide us with endless stories of dumbfuckery.
Donald Trump doesn't have military experience?he has something even better, claims Donald Trump.
Do the other candidates know how to march in formation?
"he has something even better"
His life and all of his limbs?
One thing is certain: with this comment, Trump is now in the same league as Hillary "Bosnian Sniper Fire" Clinton and Brian "Helicopter Crash" Williams.
Yeah... In the cacophany of stupid things The Donald has said and will likely say, this barely will get a 2.5 on the Trumpter Scale.
I wanted to stop. I offered them peace. I nearly retired the feature. And what do I get in return? Two idiotic Trump articles, one of which is by Dalmia Herself. Then Roby trolls in alt-text again. All right then, at least for this week, Accomplished Female Athletes of Eastern And Central Europe is still on. And restrictions are off now - all sports are in play, and definition of "accomplished" has been lowered to "put on uniform and competed in one international event at some point."
That said, today's entry, Darya Klishina is a long jumper who won three Junion championships before she was 18, as well as two European Championship (plus an Under-23 Championship) as well as setting Russian youth jump record. She also works as a model for Nike and Seiko.
Good overview of both of her careers.
This set makes me ask a question - is it still a Tramp Stamp if it's on a buttcheek?
Trump Stump not accepted in any answer.
gorgeous
Why can't she be our president? At least we would have something nice to look at.
She gets paid better, has a less shitty schedule, far fewer worthless hangers-on and doesn't have to cowtow to any idiot she doesn't want to?
Plus, the whole, not a US citizen thing, but that's only some paper, 100 years etc.
Now we have to cowtow? Is that easier than towing the lion?
And restrictions are off now
Woot! I like my pix of pretty women unrestricted, if you know what I mean.
What the fuck is this shit?
Eh. She is no Kimmy D, but she is okay.
I look forward to the inclusion of hot Eastern and Central Europe Figure Skating and Gymnastics athletes.
YES!
She is good looking.
She's cute, but Lobster Girl is still my favorite.

I'm not a pro football fan, but holy shit. The Patriots are fucking cheaters.
Oh, whoops:
http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/st.....iots-apart
Fuck ESPN. They couldn't just move on to the actual fucking games? Why I stopped watching their soap opera bullshit.
Is there evidence? Is this the culture of victim hood article?
This is what I know about Tom Brady:
1. Douche face
2. Cheats at football
3. In some way condoned Gisele's boob job
4. Trump hat
I mean, that's more than enough to condemn the entire team, right?
Nicole has a sad Brady.
You forgot the worst thing about Brady. Played for Michigan.
Correct.
Irrefutable logic.
What's this now!?
Further research needed. Standby.
I know. Clearly his worst sin.
The Internet is gonna blow now.
What the Pats did other teams in all sports have always done. Always. Nothing unique in what they did.
Corporate business does the same thing.
1) They did it to a greater extent
2) They got caught
And they paid the price. Move on.
This deflategate thing is the stupidest bull shit I've seen in all my years following sports. Funny, Ted mentions 'righteous' indignation below. But I see it flowing the other way.
Agreed - let's talk about real sports problems like motorbikes hitting cyclists.
Yes, agreed. Now please describe a problem? What you just described sounds like a traffic solution...
The whole deflategate thing was blown up so large because Goodell recognized that he erred in his leniency in Spygate.
I really don't see what's wrong with stealing signals. I get that it's 'against the rules' but it goes on in other sports, doesn't it? Why would you create a rule against something that you know no one will follow, unless you are a progtard?
Stealing signals by unaided human observation is not against the rules.
Using video recording technology, binoculars, etc is the problem (and it's against the rules in other sports too).
Is was legal forever as many coaches have attested to, and the rule book backs up. Goodell tried to make it illegal through a memo in 2006, or so he claims but the memo doesn't really say that, nor can rules be passed through memo.
In actuality it seems to have become illegal when the Patriots did it to Goodell's previous employer the Jets, despite it being acceptable when the Jets taped the Patriots their previous game the season prior.
Football in particular has a fine tradition of pushing the limits of the rules. This seems to be all about people predisposed to hating the Patriots finding something new to hate them for. Boring, get over it.
Patriots fan, I take it?
No, just an observation. Although I am a New Englander, I am quite indifferent to the Patriots and football in general.
What's that guy? u are 1 wicked fuckin' kunt, guy. say that shit about THE PATS it to my face and not online and we'll see what happens. i swer 2 christ I'll fuck ya face up. you better shut your mouth or im going down to Peabody to get my buddies. rite now we're preparin for a wicked big fight, guy. a fight thatll make your grandmother's head wicked sore just hearin bout it, guy. you're going to get fucked up worse than those fucking Mondays and spics, guy. FUCK! i fuckin swear on my mom's life that I'll fuck you up. and i no u are scared lil bitch gettin your buttbuddies to send me messages, guy. like saying dont meet up coz u r sum big black guy with muscles. lol fuckin sad, guy. really sad. That shit jus shows what a scared lil gay boy u are and whats all this crap about ur buddies sendin me about sum bodybuildin website that 1 of your faverite places to look at men u lil fuckin gay boy fone me if u got da balls you fuckin prick. see if u can step up lil queer.
Yowza.
We already knew this.
And my goodness are people getting their "righteous" indignation ove Goodell on.
Ohio State looked pretty fucking good last night. Fuck the Patriots. Fuck Michigan.
Also, fried chicken.
Would you look up the Cal score for me? I don't have the internet right now.
73 points on Grambling State. That wasn't a football game. That was a lynching.
I have a friend who made that joke on Facebook. He deleted it as soon as he realized Grambling is a HBC.
Awkward, but hysterical.
Not taking the bait? It was 73-14.
This might be the only time this season I get to brag, so I'm going to make it count.
Cal is actually a pretty good team. Will be watching Pac12 to see how it shakes out.
They usually break my heart about 3 weeks in.
Cal has a Halloween date with USC who look scary good - rang up a much better team 55-6.
Looking at Cal's schedule, they might go undefeated in September, then winless for the rest of the season. The second half of their schedule is fucking brutal.
I'm cautiously optimistic. This could be the year that Jared Goff starts paying dividends.
Starting with on the road at Utah, October is going to be pretty rough for Cal. But yeah, that is a tough schedule. If they barf one up against SDSU or Texas, they won't even get a bowl bid.
The sure didn't look good when they stopped having a clue how to move the ball in the 2nd quarter. Blowing up VT's QB probably also helped.
Don't get me wrong, they still would have won (and holy shit, Miller looks good as a Swiss Army Knife), but I think there are some vulnerabilities for sure.
Steamroll into another playoff berth.
I'm pretty sure the coaches were happy to be able to drill home that they have a lot of work to do. They also get their best defensive player and 3 receivers back next week. They have no real challenge until November so I think they'll be fine.
Listen, don't you go fucking with my official Ohio Sense of Impending Doom Regarding Sports Teams.
It's like air. I need it to live.
Speaking of impending doom in Ohio; i'll be in Cincinnati this Monday and Tuesday, Cleveland on Wednesday and Thursday, and Chicago all weekend. If any HnRers want to get together for drinks and treasonous conversation, email me at my handle at gmail.com.
Anybody got an apartment building you want to sell? I'm buying.
Watching the NFL (and to some extent, fans thereof) slowly tearing itself apart on multiple fronts - even if it will eventually blow over - is actually quite fun.
Over nothing no less.
I think the concussion stuff is going to have a longer life and may actually do some damage long-term. The cheating stuff is an entertaining, high-intensity sideshow of self-immolation. The concussion stuff is a slower burn.
The Flyers don't - allegedly - take care of their own players when it comes to concussion.
I wonder to what extent teams really follow protocol.
Rugby Union - at least in the Southern Hemisphere - really appears to take the issue seriously. On the other hand, they try to whisk the guys to the locker room for a while while they do the protocol. No real idea what they're doing in there. Not a lot of transparency.
The last couple of weeks, though, I've seen at least two, possibly three guys get carted off during ITM Cup games due to head injury. The issue seems more maturely dealt with overall though, by quite some way.
Soccer has some way to go, but there's quite a bit more talk about it. Most importantly, it's moved on from the idea of mandating those retarded headbands and/or helmets, which was an abomination that was gaining far too much traction. On the other hand, they're talking about banning heading below a certain age altogether, which WILL have unintended consequences for sure (particularly since heading isn't even in the top 5 of reasons for concussion in soccer).
If Taylor Twellman had his way, he'd get shit done now. He was nearly apoplectic during the WC in Brazil when a couple of guys appeared to have no idea where they were and then ended up back in the game within minutes. He had his career ended by multiple concussions, so he's a bit...of an advocate.
If you remove the art of heading at the lower level, it will have DISASTROUS consequences down the road.
You have to learn how to hit the ball with the head.
The collision with other heads is just unfortunate.
I got a concussion (I had a headache for weeks) when I missed time a goalie kick. Rather than hit my forehead (the proper way) it hit the top of my head. It was like getting hit by a brick.
I've headed many a punt, and those are notoriously hard to line up even uncontested. As a result, I've taken more than a few "sub-optimally", but never had a concussion (that I'm aware of). I probably had a couple due to ground and elbow/head clashes, but nothing really bad.
Probably. I dunno, I've been playing for about 33 of my 37 years on this earth - I'm probably done for at some point.
I'm guessing it was a concussion. Looking back on things I'm pretty sure I got a couple.
Tundra, absolutely. Cherry is a big proponent of that angle.
They have to learn.
Why is this "concussion stuff" even an issue?
I had 7 before I was 19 (not "bell rung" or "woozy"- but flat on your back, wake up after a minute or two with everyone standing over you thinking you might be dead.)
They fucking got paid for that.... Maybe I should apply for SSI.
Congratulations?
On another front, in case you haven't heard. Those high school football players who nailed the referee from behind during the game, are now claiming he used a racial slur.
I wonder if this makes their assault into a hate crime.
The referee was white so it can't be a hate crime.
I wish I could have seen the look on that twee leftist dork and Tom Brady jock-sniffer Charles Pierce's face when he saw that picture of the Trump hat in Brady's locker.
A white author used a Chinese pseudonym to increase the chances that his poem would be published. It worked.
Fake China-man with hand in pocket feel cocky all day.
This is your best work yet.
It's just an honor to be published.
Me Chinese, me play joke,...?
I'm trying to remember the rest of that. I asked my wife, and she can't remember either. I know it involves urine somehow.
Me go pee-pee in your coke.
You people are racist.
Me Chinese, me play joke
me put pee pee in your coke!
If memory serves, I believe the punchline was, "Me put peepee in your Coke."
Is this some millennial thing? I have never heard this.
Not millenial. I learned it in Chapel Hill, NC circa 1973.
It's quite a bit older than that.
Those jokes are rather international. I still remember one in Russian: [it would have been here, if not for reason's racism and xenophobia].
I'd actually love to know when you can get away with foreign scripts and when you can't. Sometimes I've gotten away with a decent-sized block of something in hangul or Cyrillic and sometimes it seems to freak out with just a word.
I posted a poem in welsh.
Ah, an old-people thing then 🙂
I got the dirtier version of that joke. "Me Chinese, me play trick. Me put hot sauce on my dick"
See, I thought "throat" was the punchline, not "coke". So it would have been dirty enough.
The fake Chinaman is not the issue here.
A white author used a Chinese pseudonym to increase the chances that his poem would be published. It worked. Is he history's greatest monster?
SJWs never disappoint.
He sort of implies that minorities are published because we're minorities, not because of our work.
He "sort of" implies this by actually being published? He is a monster. That is like 'STEVE SMITH WRITE POETRY TO LURE YOU TO WOODS' level of monster.
Implies, proves, what are words to an academic or a writer?
If Hudsonr feelz himself to be Chinese who the fuck is some cis-racial shitlord to tell him otherwise.
The excuses are so pathetic.
I was reading the pissed off responses in Slate early this morning. This is like that time the white guy got elected in Houston by implying he was black. SJWs really can't handle the fact that being a minority is an advantage in the modern world. Which makes sense, considering admitting it would destroy their ideology.
Shouldn't the affectation of a racial pseudonym be a disadvantage?
I mean, if we assume for the sake of argument that racial critical theory isn't complete horseshit.
""And it diminishes categorically all of our accomplishments. He sort of implies that minorities are published because we're minorities,..."
Uh, no. He shows it to be the case.
Rachel dolezal much?
Doesn't the fact that he couldn't get published as a white guy diminish your accomplishments since it proves that some people get published based on race rather than on talent? Why don't you blame the publishing industry?
Because it's the right kind of racism, i.e. pro-anything-other-than-European racism.
That describes it pretty well.
The thing about that that seems especially silly to me is that places like China, Japan or India have been every bit as violent, colonialist and culturally imperialist as any European or American power has been (often more so). Yet we are supposed to act like Western powers are the only ones who have ever done such things and are responsible for all of the woes of non-white people.
Progs are just like us, they enjoy their white privilege too.
The difference is Western Imperialism (military and/or financial) reached those countries and not the other way around. Hence, they go with that flow. It's irrelevant to them those countries were just as ruthless in their colonialism throughout their long histories.
Tell that to a Spaniard circa 1200.
Spaniards don't count as white people, do they?
I mean, if they're letting the Italians and Irish into the club, it'd probably be unfair to exclude the Spaniards too.
Not if they are Moorish ... just like Sicilians.
/not starting car for the next few days
And in this particular case the life of the average Chinese in China was pretty much equally dismal under the rule of any given Chinese emperor, under colonial rule, or under communist rule.
It is only when the Chinese economy started linking up with the international market, primarily lead by the west, that quality of life for many Chinese has improved.
Moreover, I fail to see how Europe suffering under invading hordes from the Near East and North Africa at this very moment is anything other than naked imperialism, and frankly more profoundly imperialistic than anything the Western powers achieved during the height of their empires, which was primarily rooted in economic/mercantilist ventures, not full scale colonies and population takeovers.
Btw, when hasnt europe been suffering invading hordes from the near east and north africa?
When Europe was invading the Near East and North Africa.
/Charles Martel
I wouldn't call it imperialism.
Which is confounding since it was western Europeans who made the abolition of slavery into a global ethical crusade.
It was from European societies that (ostensibly) inviolable property rights were established and free enterprise could take shape.
It was European political developments, like the separation of church and state, or political decentralization that made intrasociety violence less prevalent and from those same principles they developed the basis of modern international law that governs the most peaceful era thus far in human history.
This is not saying European people should rejoice in the achievements of their ancestors as if they were their own, no more than they should feel shame for crimes of their ancestors that were not their own. But non-whites with a racial greivance should be made aware that if the historical record is any indicator of future happenings, they would do well to learn from and appreciate the innovations of the past, present and future white males they feel owe them something.
"Which is confounding since it was western Europeans who made the abolition of slavery into a global ethical crusade.

Christian Europe
"Why don't you blame the publishing industry?"
Because the publishing industry publishes what they are most likely to sell, and since white people don't buy books by Chinese authors it just proves that all white people are racists. White people are the problem. It makes sense if you don't think about it.
There is no "publishing industry" for poetry. Poetry probably makes less money than the artisanal toothpick industry, and even professional poets (read: teachers) are lucky to sell more than a few thousand copies of any given work, probably half of which is being purchased by friends and family, if not the poet himself.
This is what happens when the greatest form of human art sells its soul to become a subsidiary of a 19th-century political philosophy. When's the last time you met a literary type who wasn't a socialist of some stripe, nevermind a classical liberal?
The left has done a fantastic job weeding ideological diversity out of poetry and "serious" literature and creating a tedious monoculture filled with obscure and unpopular art, and the result is that no one outside their incestuous social cicles buy any of their work.
I would say that the people the ancient Greeks called "poets" are the people we would call "singer-songwriters."
Combine words and music, and presto - poetry! And there's at least a small chance it will be profitable (I mean in theory), unlike the text-only stuff.
HM, am I on the right track?
Bardic culture and the rise of the oral epic (as opposed to the epic oral, which certainly has its place) is much more sophisticated than the material that's cranked out for four minutes at a time on the radio. Not that popular music is bad, just more convenient in the same way that microwave burritos are more convenient.
The old epics like Beowulf and the Iliad are probably more like modern movies or novels. There was no doubt a lot of crap being cranked out three millennia ago, but the ones that survived are the cream of the crop. Kind of like how there are hundreds of crappy 1930s movies that no one watches, but everyone knows Casablanca.
As for the decline of poetry, I blame Hegel. Like many other disciplines (looking at you, economics), literature made a dramatic shift toward becoming technical, obtuse, and elitist in the first half of the 20th century, and that's where it's remained. Now that no one gives a damn about poetry anymore, it's free to serve as watered-down cultural marxism for the ten thousand or so people who actually read modern English-language poetry.
When you're doing this from a position of entitlement,
So, being on the short end of the racial quotas is a position of entitlement, now?
Yeah, because obviously no one would ever accept a Chinese person adopting a more American sounding name. That never happens.
No, I think she's saying that to write as well as a white male without actually being one is the goal.
I see what you did there and I rove it.
What about, what about Saki? What about Labsang Rampa? It's okay to affect a Japonese neudonym or a Hindoo, but not that of a friendly China man?
Someone should tell them that it is racist to assume that someone with a Chinese sounding name is Chinese. Or that someone with an Anglo sounding name is not Chinese.
"Mike Lee here. Wassup, dawgs?"
http://www.uofmmedicalcenter.o.....o/D_122102
If he can't get published as a hetero white male, how the fuck is he "entitled"?
"A white author used a Chinese pseudonym to increase the chances that his poem would be published. It worked. Is he history's greatest monster?"
No, because everything, including this, is proof of white male privilege. It's either that, or global warming. I forget.
No, duh, it's basic cause and effect. All harms are caused by white male privilege. Global Warming is a harm. Ergo,Global warming is caused by white male privilege. /derp
Team Prog is absolutely determined to die on hill GC.
http://www.latimes.com/nation/.....story.html
BTW all of the articles with comments enabled have been thoroughly shat upon by those bitter Clingers. Now this gives me hope for your species
GC? Gov Cuomo?
I was thinking "garbage collection".
Hours after the parade, Cuomo and several other elected officials were planning to fly to Puerto Rico to offer advice to the island government grappling with a debt crisis. De Blasio was not invited.
Huh.
GC = General Counsel.
And the hills of GC's everywhere are littered with the corpses of their enemies.
Sure those photos aren't from the gay pride parade?
Yeah as if progressives are even capable of truly knowing that sometimes you can't do anything about it. If nothing else, we'll get some liberty curtailing legislation that would have done nothing to prevent this shooting.
He took down Big Tattoo and Big Mani/Pedi, though.
HAAAAAAAAA. They gave the Puerto Ricans some Krugtron columns I bet.
Seriously, how do you even pretend to be interested when Cuomo shows up with financial advice?
Knowing what not to do is useful.
An article I read stated that it is customary for hundreds of people to party all night long along this stretch in one of Brooklyn's worst neighborhoods and the cops don't crack down on any of the petty stuff they do in every other situation (drinking, groping, etc.).
"Wilding"?
RACIST!
To be fair, it hasn't been a bad neighborhood in a long, long time. It's Eastern Parkway, right across from the World headquarters of Chabad Lubovitch Hassidim at 770 Eastern Parkway. About a third of the neighborhood's residents are wealthy Jews, about a third are Afro-Caribbean, and about a third are newly relocated hipsters who are driving up rents.
Look, are Asians underrepresented in American universities or not?
I could see them being underrepresented in non-science majors. They have an over-representation in the sciences, so the colleges have to cut down their proportions in other areas to get the right 'mix' of ethnicities.
"Oh, and "Trump Is Right on Economics," claims Paul Krugman. Remember, Trump is the guy who would abolish foreign trade and deport America's unskilled workers, and Krugman is a famed economist."
You have to remember that since 2000, "economics" has meant "whatever the Democrats want" for Krugman.
So, here's is my review of the latest Iron Maiden album copied from ane earlier thread.
I've always been a fan of Steve Harris's playing style. I'll have to check this out. Thanks for the review.
It's metal. That's all you need to know. :-p
This....metal sucks and is unlistenable.
Listen up, losers: Donald Trump doesn't have military experience?he has something even better, claims Donald Trump.
"Ever heard of Alexander the Great? Genghis Khan? Erwin Rommel? Morons!" -Trump.
How much more Trump hysteria until the heads of Cosmo's literally begin to explode?
27 hysterias?
These losers are just afraid to make America great again.
Did you think I was Chinese?
What about Eurasians?
Flipped past TCM this weekend?
I DVR'ed the Japanese silent that was on in the wee hours between Sunday night and Monday morning. Interesting images, abut maddening trying to follow the plot.
Or did you have something else in mind?
"It's cruel and unusual. It's a shame."
It's cruel. It's a shame. But it is not unusual: it is the war on drugs.
"A white author used a Chinese pseudonym to increase the chances that his poem would be published. It worked. Is he history's greatest monster?"
History's greatest hero since he basically proved the entire publishing industry to be corrupt.
And this will fly right over most of the heads of the left.
In a blog post for the Best American Poetry Web site, [anthologist] Alexie explained that he read submissions blind, to the extent that he could. He didn't look up authors to learn more about them or their past work.
"Each poem will stand or fall on its own merits," went one of his 11 rules for reading.
And he acknowledged that he was "more amenable" to the poem because he thought its author was Chinese American.
One of these things is not like the others.
It's been done before.
What was the name of the bogus academic study deliberately done to see who would fall for it?
And wasn't there a deliberately bas book with each chapter written by a different sci-fi author?
Sokal Hoax?
Thank you. That was the name I was trying to remember.
The Sci. Fi. author one was actually to mock a vanity press. The vanity press claimed to have standards so they purposefully made a terrible book with no reason to be published and actually got accepted. Here is a verbatim section from the first chapter:
""We will therefore just monitor his sign's. Serious trauma like this patient
suffered requires extra care, but the rich patsies controlling the hospital will make certain
I cannot try any of my new treatments on him."
"Yes, doctor." That voice was soooo sexy!
Bruce didn't care about treatments. He cared about pain, and he cared about that
voice, because when he heard the voice, the pain went away, just for a few seconds, like.
"Report to me if there is any change," the man's voice said.
"Yes, Dr. Nance," said the sexy voice.
A door closed, and Bruce heard breathing, and smelled the enticing smell of
shampoo, and perfume. It was Chanel Number 5.
He opened his eyes.
All he saw was the roundest, firmest pair of tittles he'd ever seen in his life, all
enclosed in a crisp white nurse's uniform."
Firm pair of tittles.
Oh my God, this book is hilarious.
"While outside the door, Nurse Eastman leaned against the wall, her breasts rising
and falling with passion as she tried to control her gasps. Oh no, she thought. How
could it be? Out of all the hospitals in Georgia, they would bring him here.
She raised shaking fingers and outlined the shape of her lips, moaning softly as
she remembered the one day she'd met Bruce Lucent. The single day, at the high school
prom. She'd gone with her cousin to please their parents, since his date got sick and he
had rented his tux and everything, even though she was in nursing college. Enchantment
Under the Sea, it was called . . . she could remember it as if it was yesterday . . . their eyemet across the room, locked, held, molding passionately. It was a gaze of molten heat, a supernova of total lust, even though he was only seventeen and she was twenty-three.
It was only a matter of time before she ditched her cousin and Bruce ditched his
date, and they found themselves in the back of Bruce's Chevy . . .
She moaned, writhing in memory, until a voice splintered, shattered, pierced her
memory. "Nurse Eastman!"
It was the Head Nurse! Her warty nose quivered, her eyes blazed with suspicion.
The old bag! She wouldn't know what true love really was."
There was also Naked Came the Stranger in 1969.
"A white author used a Chinese pseudonym to increase the chances that his poem would be published. It worked. Is he history's greatest monster?'
Au contraire = JT LeRoy is America's Last Great Writer for having already played this same gag on the literary identity-politics-worshipping crowd and pulling it off for *years*, including getting movie deals and a celebrity entourage to worship him...her... it... before outing itself.
"JT, or Jeremy, LeRoy, or "Terminator" (as he was first known), was a teenage hustler who'd been pimped out as a cross-dressed prostitute by his mother at truck stops throughout the South, until he landed on the streets of San Francisco in the early-to-mid-nineties. At the time, Ewert himself was sure that LeRoy was more or less whom he claimed to be; he'd spent hours on the phone with LeRoy. He even spotted someone at the reading whom he believed to be JT, appearing incognito. Ewert reported his hunch to Dennis Cooper, who reported it to JT. Ewert had spotted him, JT confessed, and JT was highly upset."
Oh my God, this man is a genius. He hit every leftist cultural obsession - teenage prostitute, cross-dresser who was fucked over by evil southerners.
She published 2 novels which were lauded as the greatest works of the 21st century.
One movie was made, and a second one was cancelled when they learned he was a she wasn't a truckstop boy-whore.
Lou Reed and Dennis Hopper were big fans.
I think the all-time best hoax was I, Libertine, the fake book that Jean Sheperd got onto the New York Times bestseller list, and which was then actually written (by s.f. author Theodore Sturgeon) and made it onto the list for real.
Huh. Before my time. Jean Sheperd and Killgore Trout? had no idea they ran in the same circles.
*footnote =my dad was a big jean sheperd fan. I had a copy of "In god we trust - all others pay cash" lying around my room as a kid.

Self-parody.
Mission accomplished, then.

That's your best comment ever.
Thanks. The squirrels apparently stole the rest of it...
I think you meant 'edited' the rest of it.
Crazy Bitch Sues Hamster: Claims Her Likeness is Being Appropriated
She might have a case about the name, which is rather unusual, but it would be odd for the toy company to use a name without Googling it first. Or maybe the real person only became famous after the toy...? In any case, the "likeness" thing is a huge stretch.
Fake scandal! War on Women! Biased right wing media!
trigger warning Daily Kos
"Let's imagine a world in which Hillary Clinton used a .gov email address. Are we to honestly believe that there would not have been a fake scandal rigged up by Republicans and their willing accomplices in the media? Anyone familiar with the facts would answer that question with a resounding no. Even if she has used a government email many of those emails would have been classified after the fact when there were FOIA requests made for them, so that part of the "scandal" could not have been avoided."
http://www.dailykos.com/blog/rjpjrca#
The "classified after the fact" thing is just nonsense that keeps getting repeated.
The Secretary of State is an Original Classification Authority. A lot of what she writes is classified, even if it hasn't yet been classified as such. She fucking knows this. It would have been thoroughly and repeatedly explained to her by her lawyers and the State transition team before she even took the oath of office.
There's no getting around that.
We have somebody for Secretary of State that has to have all this carefully explained over and over and can still play the stupid nigger don't know nothing bout that shit card after years in office? If she is that stupid and immune to ever learning anything, then it's an even worse indictment against her than that she may've arrogantly or with ill intent disregarded her responsibilities.
Maybe she was distracted by playing Candy Crush on her iPhone during her inbrief. Stop being so judgemental.
I believe the joke was Snapchat.
The "classified after the fact" thing is just nonsense that keeps getting repeated.
Indeed. Its not classified because its marked, its marked because its classified.
As always, proggies show themselves to be very primitive thinkers. They constantly confuse the signs for the substance.
"Look! Here's a list of every double and deep cover agent that the US has around the world! And its not marked classified, so that must mean its not!"
Either that or they just repeat whatever talking points they're given.
It's funny how people who knew nothing about how the classification system worked on Tuesday are suddenly experts on Wednesday after Daily Kos posts some talking points.
The Kos talking points are that it's ok because Colin Powell and Condolezza Rice did it too (they didn't).
I would think that the fact that things can later be classified would be a very strong reason why the Secretary of State should use a properly secured .gov address.
That... doesn't even make sense.
This person does not seem to understand what the controversy is actually about. The whole problem is that she was sending classified material through a private email server. If she didn't use a private email server... do they think she would be criticized for sending classified material at all? Do they have any idea what the Secretary of State job entails?
So, if the scandal were actually fake, which it is not, the R's would have drummed it up anyway?
I am not sure I follow the logic here....oh, wait. Never mind.
It means that they are obliged to go ahead and misuse their priveleges to gain some advantage because they are already at a disadvantage and if they fail to misuse their priveleges in order to gain more advantage they will be falsely accused of doing so anyway and be put at even more of a disadvantage.
These people are dumber than the Obama birthers. Even a large slice of normal Democrats knows that her home-server was purely to evade transparency. They don't insist to themselves that "ALL IS WELL!!" while the facts keep piling up.
Its amazing how deluded people will become when politics takes over.
"These people are dumber than the Obama birthers."
Same ringleader
"Even if Bush hadn't lied and people hadn't died, the Democrats would still have found a fake scandal to pin on him."
Even if she has used a government email many of those emails would have been classified after the fact when there were FOIA requests made for them, so that part of the "scandal" could not have been avoided.
What part? The part where she was handling classified email on a non-gov server? IOW, pretty much the entire scandal?
Did you already forget the bit where you said "if she was using a gov server"?
Well, Kos is technically right: had Clinton obeyed the law, there would indeed have been a fake scandal rigged up by Republicans.
Luckily for them, she broke the law in a really obvious and embarrassing way. That makes the narrative a lot simpler.
Jeff Mizansky's release deserves as much coverage as those sappy soldiers returning home stories.
I also wonder how many people who flaunt yellow ribbons favor restoring full rights to felons who have served their sentences.
Nothing about the big Biden headline on Drudge? I'm wondering if Hillary might not make it to the convention because she'll be so angry that she'll have a stroke....

Greasonable (the firefox thing) works fine once you change the http to https
https://github.com/sthgrau/greasonable
I switched back to firefox and installed fascr, which works with https and has a slightly cleaner look than greasonable.
I've been increasingly unimpressed with chrome recently. I remember when it wouldn't crash and seize all my computer's resources. Those days were nice.
I think the latest version was supposed to retool how big of a resource hog it is. I've been having some odd problems with FF and Google sites recently (gMaps won't show the actual map tiles so I get a black window with the search box and zoom bar) and it's driving me crazy having to kill the process and switch over to chrome to get directions.
Maybe it's time to go Galt Ted S. and just use opera with every option turned off.
Google is deliberately doing this to other browsers. After all, their motto *is* "Let's be evil".
And I use Opera on my old Windows XP box. I tried Comodo Dragon like you recommended one time, and it automatically updated itself without my having it open. Fuck that; I don't have unlimited bandwidth.
Wasn't I recommending it for a very specific reason? I think the main differences from Chrome are that Dragon doesn't phone home to Google, uses Comodo's DNS and has a master password option for protecting saved log in information.
I think it was that someone wanted to use Reasonable but wouldn't use a browser that left saved passwords as Open as Chrome does.
XP, eh? You want many virii?
If not for Android, I think I'd be Google free at home (or nearly so - translate still doesn't suck).
In the last year I bought two desktops with 32GB of RAM to be able to use Chrome. I'm only slightly stretching the reasons why I bought them.
Is chrome actually any better than FF? I've used it off and on and see no benefit, plus i just prefer the menu structure in FF because i'm oldschool
It was better when it was new. What was that, 10 years ago? Christ.
What's frightening is the new Internet Explorer Edge Browser by Microsoft is fairly spry as Chrome and FF seem to be bulking up.
It still is. I gave FF a chance-again-4 weeks ago and it sucked. Froze and crashed. I use both for different sites. Maybe I will try this 'Comodo Dragon'.
Chrome doesn't update itself every 12.5 seconds, so that in itself makes it better than FF. I use both, and IE. All of them seem to have their benefits and issues.
Chrome and Firefox both have 6-week major release cycles, with urgent bug and security updates issued frequently in the interim. The difference is actually in interface; when Chrome downloads an update, it turns the hamburger menu orange without otherwise alerting you whereas Firefox displays an overt alert.
Personally I prefer the latter for security, since browser vulnerabilities begin being exploited very rapidly (if they were not already in use prior to the update, which is sometimes the case) so I want an overt notification. My assumption, though, is that the Chrome team has data suggesting that most people are not nerds like me who leave their browsers open for days on end and will hence naturally restart their browsers without prompt.
IE? Jesus. Why do you hate yourself?
Chrome is really not that good. I use it out of necessity at work and it's pretty meh.
"I'm only slightly stretching the reasons why I bought them."
Dual screen porn?
I mouse with my left hand. I told you.
You mean flash player crashes? Turn off hardware acceleration, it will be much more tolerable.
I've noticed that FF and Chrome both seem to have tried flipping to HTML5 in recent updates. Had to get a plugin to force flash use, on Utoob at least.
Flash makes my Macbook Pro very angry.
Flash destroyed my 2007 Macbook.
It was grinding by 2010 (probably should have replaced, but had free work computers)... but the over-heating from Flash caused the processor to melt the board/fry itself. I spoke to a dozen people about it, and they all shrugged and said, "Apple and Adobe hate one another".
I keep the Activity Monitor open because of it. If I see Adobe Flash going at 100% CPU, I have a minute to pull it out of my lap before it burns my dick off.
Flash is disabled on newer versions of Chrome isn't it?
I think so, and anyway Flashblock is one of the first things I install (after Adblock).
Really? FF has been the one that lets me down with crashing and freezing all the damn time and I've given it multiple chances.
What the hell do you do to get that to happen? FF works fine leaving it open with many tabs (though that does consume quite a bit of memory over time). I've only seen about 3 crashes in as many years, and I think that's all on Windows. My Linux boxes have no problem.
Even IceWeasel on my way, way, way underpowered, ancient laptop that I'm typing on now has been nearly perfect going on months of uptime.
For some reason, I have to wait for Firefox to burp up God knows what when I go to click a link or issue a command. I get the blue ring, a sound almost like it's trying to spin the (empty) DVD drive, and the (Not Responding) message for several seconds before it shakes out of its stupor and lets me move on.
Sounds like you have an outdated browser. Stuck javascript scripts will make your processor go apeshit (the noise you hear is either your CPU PWM fan going all max speed on you, or your GPU fan(s) desperately trying to cool something).
Update FF and/or use NoScript and only allow JS when you absolutely need it.
Plus, you're running a shitty OS.
Thank you.
The Firefox thing? I need to fire my marketing department.
Its the choice of the new generation. Its not your grandpa's Firefox plug-in. Just do it. 4 out of 5 dentists think Greasonable is better than just brushing your teeth with your finger. Its the best a man can get.
Eat more heart-healthy whole grains, citizens.
But how do you feel about the weight, depth and frequency of America's squatting?
I have no strong opinion on whether Americans should or should not squat more or less. Why do you ask?
Hmm, I must have you confused with some other musclebound rapesquatch.
Yeah, they all look alike when you're facedown in the forest, don't they?
That's too bad. I was all ready to argue that it doesn't matter if a squatter breaks parallel or not; getting parallel with the hips is good enough.
That's right. Going any deeper than halfway is bad for your knees.

Am I to assume that half of the US adult population is immune to diabetes?
Just glanced over that article over those teens.
How barbaric and anal are these laws? Holy shit they're on their way to destroying the kid's life before he even has a chance.
He's not a kid, he's 19 and she was 14.
He's a kid.
She lied about her age.
19 is pretty much a kid.
Yup. Not marked "14" til after the sex, and the guy wasn't thinking about it at the time, so nothing to see here.
She lied about her age.
So what? It would be impossible to get a conviction for statutory rape if the defendant can claim the minor lied about their age and use that as a defense.
And we're not talking 16 vs 17 here. It's not even a borderline case. The guy should have been able to tell.
Tulpa, do you jerk off to CSPAN? Or do you save that for when you're watching COPS?
Shit I've seen 13 year old girls that look 21. I don't know what she looked like but there can be huge variances in physical and emotional maturity. 14 and 19? Not good and definately pushing it but not completely destroy the 19 year olds life bad. You go a couple years in either direction and I'm losing sympathy for sure. Wasn't all that long ago that kids were routinely married in this country at that age.
Of course, but for the purposes of the rule of law you have to have a fixed and clear standard. It can't be on a case by case basis and you can't allow unfalsifiable defenses, otherwise everything falls apart.
I agree. I have no problem with him being punished. But it should be the punishment of a young man who fucked up and had an error of judgement. Not the punishment of a predator which doesn't seem to fit the case. Now if he does it again.
The fixed and clear standard also has to make sense.
Mens rea is a fixed and clear standard.
Sorry. 19 is an adult. Perhaps an immature adult, depending, but an adult nonetheless.
Unless he banged her in a liquor store. Then they are both underage.
I don't think being a legal adult precludes being a "kid". You aren't going to tell me that you don't think of 18 and 19 year olds as "kids".
You aren't going to tell me that you don't think of 18 and 19 year olds as "kids".
Depends. Are they trying to buy beer?
So the legal definition of majority is the only standard by which you judge someone to be a kid? I guess you are a lawyer.
Yes, I will tell you that.
So your saying he should be on a registry?
No. Registries are an abomination.
He should be in prison IMHO. I'm not a fan of the registry-- it does more harm than good IMHO -- but this is certainly one of the least illegitimate uses of it, as he is an adult who preyed on a child.
No he isn't you cunt he didn't prey on anything. It isn't the justice system's job to satiate your sick need for pointless punishment. At worst he deserves some community service.
No. They only formalising it. He already destroy it by his actions. If you go around putting a sticker saying "AQUA" on bottles of water, it doesn't change anything.
?
Good news for Zach Anderson, the teen sentenced to life on the sex offender registry for having sex with a girl who claimed to be 17.
His sentence, now vacated while a new sentencing process is started, was 25 years on the registry. Ed is still working on that learning how to read thing.
Anderson was 19 at the time of the incident and the girl was 14... not even close to the age she supposedly claimed to be (which wouldn't, and can't, be allowed as a defense anyway as it can always be feigned). The judge also noted that she did not look older than her age.
The judge also noted that she did not look older than her age.
Now the judge is skeezing me out.
which wouldn't, and can't, be allowed as a defense anyway as it can always be feigned
So? We have this thing called "investigation" which yields these things called "evidence".
How are you going to disprove that claim beyond a reasonable doubt?
Well, the judge was pretty clear on her not looking older than her age.
That's not enough to remove reasonable doubt... the judge used that observation for sentencing, which doesn't have the same standard of evidence.
Its what a jury would do when looking at the alleged victim: determine if the defendant can credibly claim that she looked legal.
This is what juries are for, you know: to determine the credibility of witnesses.

You know, I was doing ok without Reasonable, until ya'll had to keep whining about it and now it's bothering me too. Thanks a lot.
Is reasonable dead?
Occasionally it doesn't work but often a few refreshes and it come back on, not this time, I believe it was functioning right before I left for work this morning.
The https death. RIP Reasonable, like the US Constitution, it was nice while it lasted.
Ugh, that sucks, I shall miss it, time to brush up on the old http code I guess.
Please, somebody restore the echo chamber! Our minds are not ready for unfiltered discourse.
The plugin has more features than just hiding your inane babble.
Switch to Firefox and use fascr. Bonus: blocked commenters are completely gone. No more walls of blank lines.
Who said that?
Reasonable doesn't work with https and Reason is now automatically redirecting to the secure versions of their page. brymck (I think) might update it, and there are alternatives including greasonable and fscr which are talked about and linked to up above.
Here's a radical notion - do away with the registries.
I've changed my mind on them over the years --- if you are that dangerous as to need to be on a public list and identify yourself to your neighbors, can't live a mile from a school, etc, then you should be in jail.
Why would we let someone that dangerous out into the general public? That's what prisons are for.
Welcome to the age of lifetime punishments and partial citizens.
That's what I've thought of the lists all along. If someone is actually so dangerous that they can't be allowed in the vicinity of children, they need to be locked up, not forced to jump through a bunch of bullshit hoops which aren't even effective at keeping them from re-offending.
You're describing civil confinement, which I thought libertarians opposed.
No, just give longer sentences to the really bad ones. I am against changing the sentence after the fact, and that includes being put in the registry.
Why would we let someone that dangerous out into the general public? That's what prisons are for.
Because sentences are supposed to be of fixed duration and not extended by the whim of the state. Unless you want life imprisonment for all sex-related crimes.
No, that is just your own biases talking. If they are dangerous, then they will demonstrate it, and they can be thrown in prison for their actions. There is no need to have "civil confinement" or any other bullshit based upon the whims of the state. The problem is that nobody wants to admit that there are degrees of sexual offenses, and sexual offenses are not the most severe of offenses anyway.
If they are dangerous, then they will demonstrate it, and they can be thrown in prison for their actions.
Do you realize how difficult it is to throw someone in prison for an extended period of time? (which is a good thing in general)
Is it that difficult to throw serial rapists in prison?
I mean, that's what we're talking about here, right? Not just people found with kiddie porn on their hard drives, but actual dangers to the public, yeah?
Oh good. The Lagunitas guy is now filthy rich.
Good for him. I've only had one of their beers. Wasn't loving it.
You've only had one Lagunitas? Pretty much everything of theirs is good except for that daytime fractional IPA bullshit.
Ta da! Minor to be sentenced as an adult for child pornography charges of himself! The girl gets off with a $200 fine.

"Tell you what: since I did exactly what she did, give me exactly the same punishment, and I won't embarrass you on national television. Do we have a deal?"
"The news site reports that police discovered the sexually explicit photos as they were investigating another incident."
I saw this exact line in the last article I read on this. I have a strong suspicion that something is amiss here, thus the lack of information.
Also, if the boy gets anything harsher than the girl got then the judge should serve the sentence, not the boy. Nah, fuggit. Neither should suffer any consequences. They were horny kids doing what horny kids have done since the beginning of time. I can only imagine what my cell phone would have had on it if we had had them back in the day. Criminalizing normal, natural human behavior is the real crime here. The authors of the laws that enabled this to happen and those who voted for it need to be punished. Woodchippers all around.

Mayhaps they could remain and fight like men for the future of their own societies rather than siphon off the fleeting remnants of the West before destroying it as parasites are wont to do. And in case you quarrel with the "fight like men" jargon and state that these are poor refugee families that are washing up on Europe's shores, perhaps the UN's report showing that 72% are men would be illuminating.
What we are witnessing is naked imperialism of a kind more profound than any ever perpetrated by the Western powers in the Near East or North Africa (akin to the Spanish and Portuguese treatment of South America though). Full-scale colonization. The barbarian hordes amassing at the gates. A new Dark Ages awaits.
Just put a bounty on their scalps. Problem solved!

"How noble of you to offer up these unarmed untrained masses to the maws of war. By which I mean 'you are a huge asshole'."
I had to read this a couple of times.
Here's toxic griping that others wish to send people off to war. Toxic is griping about *OTHERS SENDING PEOPLE OFF TO WAR*!
At least it sure looks that way.
Yeah, escaping to a land of peace and opportunity to try and build a better life for your children is only something our ancestors get to do. These people, well, they need to just accept their fate and wait for the bombs to fall. Because welfare state, or something.
Not that I am endorsing Sudden's histrionics, but "our ancestors" were conquerors and settlers. Since Europe is already settled, does that mean these people intend to conquer it? If so, one cannot fault the Europeans for fighting back.
There may be moral equivalence between them and our ancestors. But our ancestors are dead.
Plenty of our ancestors (as Americans in general) were immigrants, fleeing war and hunger, coming to an established country, many of whom stayed in the cities. I don't think it is so different.
I don't think it is so different.
Hence why I said: "There may be moral equivalence between them and our ancestors. But our ancestors are dead."
Just because they are "not so different" doesn't mean anybody has to accept them. The idea that property rights can be cast aside out of political convenience ought to be morally repugnant to libertarians. It doesn't matter if they're refugees, immigrants, or the Golden Horde of Genghis Khan. You pay your way or GTFO.
A new Dark Ages awaits
Hardly. Europe will remilitarize before too long. The question is, how much of their beloved social welfare state will they have to give up to pay for it?

Hot in the southland, Playa? Still in the 80s in SF.
Yeah. Yesterday was insane at the beach. Hot, so we get the inner city "baggy jeans at the beach" crowd coming down to cool off. Combine that that with the 3 tropical cyclones that were in the Pacific basin last week, and bad things happen. Manhattan was 6-8 foot surf, but Newport was 10-15. I think they had something like 3500 rescues down there this weekend.

But he's also a surfer. I'll bet you didn't know that surfing is a noble calling! That surfers have some sort of spiritual connection with........
He's a fucking idiot and they give him front page space during the Maverick event, since they've fired most of the reporters and the high-end writers. If some idjit dies, well 'he died doing what he LOVES!' Sorta like the guy who got lung cancer from smoking, I guess. Or the fool who dived into that wave.
Mark Foo? I presume he loved surfing, not drowning.
Nah, and I'm too lazy to look up the name tonight.
But then most smokers love smoking rather than dying, too.
Sure, so they have to make sure their last breath is smoke, not water.
Fine, not last.
Fire on a plane on the runway in Vegas.
From CBS' stellar reporting:
"the 777-200 has been involved in two fatal crashes, one in July 2013 that killed three passengers when an Asiana Airlines flight landed short of San Francisco International Airport's runway, and the Malaysia Airlines flight that disappeared last year and was only recently recovered."
O FUCKING RLY?

Maybe CBS could do some real research to see if all the pilots had names begining with a certain letter? Or, perhaps they were all married in the same year?
How about.............
Ah, the hell with it....
The 777 is perfectly safe if you don't have an Asian pilot. There, I said it.
The Malaysian Airlines plane is still missing. I'm sure the families will be relieved to learn that CBS has found it.
OK, did the Vegas Asian pilot drop his match after lighting the joint?
Even seeds are a felony in Nevada. I hope he's smarter than that.
I did not know that, and have thereby traversed NV several times with evidence which could have cost me dearly.
OT:
You think you have insurance problems?
Early this year, the Heogh Osaka was purposely grounded after leaving a Brit port, since it developed a list which threatened capsizing:
http://www.bing.com/images/sea.....ajaxhist=0
Natch, there is all sorts of forelock-tugging over whether some fishies will eat oil ( "CHC closely monitored the Hoegh Osaka situation and any potential pollution risk to our area of jurisdiction which extends across the northern half of the Medina estuary and out into the Solent, a highly sensitive area designated and protected for the quality of its coastal habitats" you'll have to find the link; damn you H&R ) But that's not the issue.
It seems that auto mfgrs whose vehicles are involved in such an incident will not honor any warrantee and demand the vehicles be destroyed. And that they be compensated for them.
Hmmm: "The grounding of the Heogh Osaka [...] has highlighted once again the importance of having an appropriately worded cargo policy in place"

You bet it does! Some 1400 vehicles are now in limbo, and lawyers licking their chops!
Was that the ship that was loaded with Range Rovers?
Yes, it was.
Not sure if they are still crap (a SBC really made the old ones worthwhile), but they still are expensive.
As his *Civil War* series comes back to PBS, Ken Burns tells the Washington Post his Deep Thoughts:
""So if the president wasn't born in the United States, that's another way of saying the n-word. If he's Muslim, that's another way of saying the n-word. All of these things are code, new racial code, for words that now have, at least in public, lost their respectability," Burns continued, marveling at the way the end of the Civil War only forced white supremacist language and practices to mutate to fit their new circumstances. "You would rather be able to look at a black person and tell them what to do, and most often today, that means 'Please stay out of sight. If that means we have to warehouse you in prison, if that means we have to treat your suburb that's now growing increasingly dark, then we'll tax you and fine you and keep you in jail to keep our coffers full, and coincidentally, you out of the way.' All of those things are taking place today, today in the United States.""

What is it that causes people to become such stark raving idiots?
Wait... I was out here earlier today and I could have sworn this same post was here.
Department of Education stands up for the rights of a student who made a false claim of sexual misconduct. A university moved the accused students out of their dorms and told them not to have contact with the phony victim. Investigation (by the university *and* the Department of Education) cleared the accused students.
Conclusion? The university violated the false accuser's rights.
Former Education Department lawyer Hand Bader explains.

Hans, not Hand
What if they threw a controversy and nobody showed up?
The rest of us can show up and have a beer.
Last.
Anybody seen turd since the market melt-down a couple of weeks ago? Can we hope he broke out in assholes and shit himself to death?
(no, you're not last0
I knew I could bait (bate?) the thread into continuing. Yeah, he was around even during the meltdown 'cause yours truly was a'callin' him out!
Couldn't get him to comment on his belove Ess and Pee! Which has officially lost all year-over-year gains and then some.
I should have dumped my SPY puts on Friday.
*shrugs*
Maybe the market will crash even harder before October.
It will and I told you so.
Anyway here is Shrike's hero being "awesome"
"Some People Just Don't Fit In The Economy" Buffett Explains: "We'll Send Them Off To Afghanistan"

This morning. He was patting himself on the back for some nonsense.
If he doesn't, who would?
I think I saw that... something about his fascination with a... a... *glances at notes* Mike Hucklebee or something.
Finito.
Es todo.
Almost like timing the market, Playa...
It's getting late. I should turn..
LAST
This "last" trend is pretty lame. You should all be embarrassed that you would spend your night trying to be the last poster in a thread. Shameful, really.
I agree,
My alarm is set.
Try me
And, you, of course, hope to be "first", right?
My kid has croup. I'm going to be up ALL night.
Some of us don't have a wife, glaring at us over her halfsies.
Seattle Teachers demand 18.2% raise over three years as compromise, down from 21%, because they're all heart. That 18.2% raise is over and above cost of living raises.

Ultimate.
Actually Last.
OR AM I FIRST?
Last.
Last
Pimpultimate.
Last.
I am pretty sure it is going to be the Jews.
The Kochs.
The jeans would help, believe it or not. That's how squat suits originated.
Tundra, you have to remember that Warty is a graduate of hooked on phonics. You really should have said "denim jeans" because I'm pretty sure he confused your snide remarks about the sartorial hijinks of the muscle heads with the homonym "genes".
Now we all know that Warty is some crazy guy who believes that fucking in some strange weight lifting garb will actually improve the genetic make up of their kids and allow them to squat moar.
If I want something that tastes like I'm chewing on a hop flower, I'll frickin' chew on hop flower.

Hairy Eyeball too. I got a case of bombers a year ago, and I actually got tired of it. Temporarily.
I like the Founders All Day IPA, which is a session beer. But, I drink like a teenage girl, which is to say I am loud, and there is a lot of screeching, and there is a lot of general annoyance, but I have a supple, nubile body, so it all works out.
Friends of mine love their Pils. I think the Pils is a pretty good summer day sort of beer.
Pils are good.
But they don't fit into my numbers game. There's an ABV/Calorie ratio that the Pilsner falls outside of. That is to say: getting drunk on it would also make me fat.
You need to start jogging and burn some of those calories.
I have a system that works for me. It involves drinking beers with high ABV.
Jesus. You sound like my dad.
I'll get off your lawn now.
Dowsing beer with hops is the only way to make it drinkable.
I like that a lot too. Tastes like the kind of beer I like and I can drink it all afternoon and still be functional.
