Mass. Cop Fired on Own Cruiser to Cover Up Crash, Causing Lock Down in Local Town
Now charged, will be fired.

Last Wednesday, Bryan Johnson, a police officer in Millis hired in June, crashed his police vehicle, then allegedly fired several shots at it and reported he had been shot at, causing him to crash.
The town, located in Massachusetts, a kind of birthplace of the contemporary police lockdown, went on lockdown for several hours after the "shooting," with police asking residents to remain home while SWAT teams, K9 units, and even a police helicopter swept through town in search of a gunman. Millis doesn't appear to do this when "regular people" are shot at.
Eventually, investigators determined the only shots fired at Johnson's car were from Johnson's firearm. He will be fired before he was scheduled to begin police academy training—Johnson was part-time with the police department before being hired as a full-time officer in June. He is also being charged on multiple counts, including misleading investigators and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Johnson reportedly admitted to blacking out and then fabricating the story. He was given a psychiatric evaluation Friday. Johnson still has some qualified support in the department. Via WCVB:
"I know there is something wrong. He was a good police officer, he was a good person, he was a good dispatcher. He was a person I thought would've been an excellent police officer," said [Sgt. William] Dwyer. "Something did go wrong and probably in later days we will know exactly what that is."
Nevertheless Dwyer, who was in charge of the department as of last week, insists Johnson would be "prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

But, but, but... War on cops!
What exactly is the point of these "lockdowns" and by what authority do they proceed? I missed the part of the constitution where it says the police can confine me to my home or business until they decide to release me just because they decided it was a good idea.
The point is to confirm that everyone with any balls has long since left Massachusetts.
This article read "...went on lockdown for several hours after the "shooting," with police asking residents to remain home..." There is a big difference between asking and ordering. The police can ask me, or anyone, anything they may desire but i have no duty to answer or comply. The police are your public servants and cannot lawfully order a man or woman to do or not to do anything. Of course, if you want to be a person or citizen or individual, etc. then it's a different story.
Being that cops face no consequences for using force on someone who refuses to comply with a mere request, all requests are de-facto lawful orders.
Or at least FYTW orders.
Of course, failure to do as "asked" will result in a confrontation with police, which has a good chance of ending badly for you.
For self-preservation, I would probably choose to stay inside if the cops asked me to. And not because I was afraid of the suspected "perp."
How would you even know about the lockdown unless you were watching the news? Do they come around to every house and business and inform them that martial law has been declared?
I assume you'd figure it out when a gaggle of cops approached you with their weapons drawn and commanded you to go home or else.
One should presume that even the derpiest of the Derps would be able to figure it out.
They have a helicopter with a PA system. Happens here all the time.
Do they play Wagner?
Robert Wagner?
Ha ha. Um, no.
Oh, you mean 9W then.
You're old.
And if you got the reference, so are you. IIRC, you are a couple days more than a month ahead of me. Early July '73, no?
And if you got the reference, so are you.
Actually I didn't. I had to google it. And um, yeah.
*shakes head in confusion*
I guess my parents were just more into Johnny.
We didn't even have a television until the 80s.
Kind of like how the president was going to "ask" people to pay just a little bit more. The police are not exactly known for polite requests.
Asking my fucking foot. Have you seen the video of cops in Boston "asking" to search homes for the marathon bombers? Fuck you, statist.
They only shoot you when you don't do as they asked. That makes it justified.
"Lockdowns" are not something that anyone who isn't in prison should have to understand.
Let me make sure I have this right. Were he a 20-year veteran of the force, it would be determined that he had not received enough training to know he shouldn't have done this. But if he actually hasn't received any training yet, he's eligible for prosecution because he should have known better.
Actually, that makes perfect sense and is consistent with the decision to expect civilians to know more about the law than cops.
I guess the question is...what are they teaching at the academy?
They learn all the magic phrases that allow judges and prosecutors to ignore the actual texts of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments.
Mostly it centers around use of force.

That's pretty good Tony.
I like this Tony.
Don't drink the Kool-Aid.
I got a chuckle.
Credit where it's due.
He's better then the other Tonys. This one started about three weeks ago.
I would if he weren't a bootlicker to every other kind of authority.
Progressives all hate cops, yet are all for using the law to get vengeance against those they don't like. He just prefers not to have to deal with the messy realities of the policies he supports.
But, but, but... laws are magic! They are never intended to be enforced by thugs with badges! They're supposed to magically transform society because they're like magic and stuff! How dare you expect a progressive to be intellectually consistent and see that the laws that they love so much must be enforced at the point of a gun?!?
But, but, but.........sarcasm aside, progressives are dirty, filthy, profligate, and vile. They love imposing their will through the point of a gun.
You morons are the ones who say that the only legitimate actions of government are the ones that involve arresting, shooting, and/or imprisoning people.
You morons are the ones who say that the only legitimate actions of government are the ones that involve arresting, shooting, and/or imprisoning people.
Government is force, Tony. That's all it is. So everything it does is predicated on arresting, shooting and imprisoning people. That's just reality, Tony. Everything that you want the government to do ultimately comes down to sicking the cops on anyone who doesn't want to cooperate.
The difference between libertarians and morons like you is that we understand this basic fact of life, and because we understand it we would prefer to limit governmental to activities where such action is justified.
*governmental*
Especially when it comes of imbibing the wrong substances or espousing politically unfashionable thoughts or selling commodities or services outside the purview of the all-encompassing administrative state, eh? Totally libertarian brah.
The thing you don't seem to understand, Tony, is that whenever you want the government to do something, you're asking the cops to arrest, shoot and/or imprison anyone who actively objects. Because that's the foundation of governmental power.
So it is actually you who supports arresting, shooting and imprisoning people more than libertarians, because you support a swath of activities that we would rather have the government not do. All of those activities are enforced by arresting, shooting and imprisoning people. Without exception. Because the government's toolbox contains only one tool: force. Everything else that the government does rests upon using force. Everything.
So you can't simultaneously love big government and hate the cops, since the cops are the foundation of big government.
Chew on that, Tony.
Excellent argumentation! Reality control will cause it to slough off after his mind goes blank for a few seconds. Once the doublethink kicks in I'w wager he could not even repeat is. I finally decided it is pointless to argue with mystics, but OK to debate them--especially in front of their own choir.
Fortunately, we can vote against all looters. Nobody anywhere had that option before 1972. Now there are LPs in Uruguay, Australia, The Netherlands, England, India...
I don't like this Tony.
Cops would lick your shoes if politicians passed a law telling them to... We should be teaching them civil disobedience.
Shooting Stuff 351: How to Hit What You're Aiming At (elective, optional)
Shooting Stuff 351: How to Hit What You're Aiming At (elective, optional)
Summary:
1. Suspect in vehicle: Jump on hood of vehicle, firing directly through windshield. Sneer gleefully.
2. Suspect standing, walking or running: Point weapon in general vicinity of perp. Fire rapidly until loud noises stop. Reload and repeat.
3. Suspect in custody: Gently caress perp with barrel. Whisper "stop resisting" in his ear. Pull trigger.
4. Suspect has a dog: Pat the pooch on the head to gain its trust, then blow its brains out. Continue firing wildly until a small child or fellow officer is also hit (Medals all around!)
That's an awful lot of hostility against the men in uniform who make your monolithic progressive government possible.
When do you think the union makes clear to them they are going to vote Democrat?
Um...
Lt Fd'A crashed his jet due to negligence, lied about it and will be fired BEFORE he was scheduled to begin Pilot Training.

Are there doctors performing surgery on their own before attending medical school?
All kinds of people work as volunteer cops. They just don't have the power of arrest. But they still carry guns and are allowed to join in the orgies of violence.
Why would you need the power of arrest when you can shoot them instead?
Hey, there's a War on... on drugs, moslems, cops, rights...
Actually, the cynic in me kinda wonders if delaying sending him for "training" is a way around the kind of Union Arbitration clause that keeps responsible politicians ( there are a fe) from firing feral cops. Maybe his "probation period" isn't over 'til he's been through training.
Does sound odd, though.

Yeah, newly-minted cop covers up crash to avoid repercussions. It's a complete mystery why he'd do that.
I'm a little puzzled by why "He wrecked his car and then shot it up in a lame coverup attempt" isn't the answer to the puzzling question of what exactly went wrong.
I like how they still managed to work the passive voice into a summary involving exactly one individual doing something that explicitly requires human intervention. Wrecking the cruiser could well be an accident, but drawing his weapon, shooting the car, and reporting it as an attempt on his life is pretty intentional.
This cop sounds Superbad.

Nice. This is why I come to H y R.
So, more like a low, protracted, hissing sound?
You must know different Patriot fans than I do. Boston may be a Democrat city, but it's not exactly a big PC-liberal, let's all get along and not say anything mean about different races and nationalities, kind of place.
Also, people should talk to Massachusetts Republicans - it's a depressing/entertaining exercise of listening to a mixture of populism with occasional excursions into outright fascism.
They would vote Democrat rather than vote for some unhinged radical who believed private enterprise was something other than a platonic idea.

Best comment from the WCVB article:
He was given a psychiatric evaluation Friday.
Whatever the result, it had jolly well better result in another "lockdown", if you catch my drift.
Why does he need a psychiatric evaluation? The motive is obvious. The only possible purpose to the eval is to try and excuse his behavior.
"Procedures were followed."
He blacked out after the car crash; clearly, the concussion caused his irrational response and he'll be reinstated with back pay and a raise.
Not a doubt this is how it'll play out.
"A vehicle collision occured during which the officer suffered a concussion. Afterward shots were fired into the vehicle, causing the officer to report an active shooter in the area."
Looks like you have experience with this sorta stuff. Love the passive voice.
"...a kind of birthplace of the contemporary police lockdown..."
Then this is the birthplace of "sheeple".
Shove your "lockdowns" as deeply up your asses as you possibly can. Any cop that engages in this nonsense ought to be ashamed.
No one with a sense of shame would ever seek to become a police officer.
OT but related: City of Baltimore agrees to pay family of Freddie Gray, $6.4m.
Damn it feels good to be a family member of a cop victim.
And they will learn what from it?
Are they paying the settlement?
(Sorry, I can't type that and keep a straight face.)
"Click it or ticket!"
The cops will learn nothing since they face no direct consequences. The taxpayers will learn to vote for more Democrats because they care about minorities.
The taxpayers will learn to vote for more Democrats because they care about minorities
The taxpayers will leave. It's not like there aren't plenty of suburbs around Baltimore. The people who remain will be unable to pay for the glorious utopia they are trying to create. In other words, Baltimore will be the next Detroit.
And they will learn what from it?
That money buys accountability.
Millis doesn't appear to do this when "regular people" are shot at.
Ah, but this is a region that is notorious for its insurectionist ways.
Have you forgot about when those heros in Redcoats were shot at in those parts?
Apparently they have because the defense of Redcoats who shot first doesn't seem much different than it would be today

...Unless Adams was relating a vision of Hit and Run that he'd had...
I feel bad for this kid-cop. He was so green he didn't realize that the other cops would freak the fuck out so badly when he tried covering up the crash.
I'm sure he thought, that there would be a big powwow at the crash site and then they'd drive around for a few hours and call it a day.
He didn't realize how terrified the other cops would be and that they'd lock a town down to find the perp. After all, who but a bunch of crazies would overreact that badly?
Then when it all came out, the kid was screwed because he made the regular pussies look so bad.
City of Baltimore agrees to pay family of Freddie Gray, $6.4m.
You can all go home now.
Justice has been done.
Good work, everybody.
If they made a modern day Jeffersons, the windfall that allowed them to move up would definitely be a tax payer settlement these days.
The Jeffersons "moved on up" because George was a savvy businessman. It would be a sad testament to modern attitudes if this is the contemporary analogue.
Cops carry out the progressive agenda of wealth redistribution one wrongful shooting case at a time. It's probably the only effective means they have.

No, they moved because a "brother in blue" had supposedly been attacked. Your children were the least of their concerns. If your kid had been playing outside with a toy gun, ignorant of the lockdown, things might not have gone well.
And the rest of Millis would condemn that family for allowing their bullet-riddled kid to play with such a dangerous toy murder simulation device.
He would have been a good cop? Seriously what is wrong with Police today...
Oh, he was a good guy eh? And we should base that on his judgement calls...like the first time he makes a mistake he tries to cover it up through lying and public endangerment?
Yeah that's exactly the kind of person I want as a cop.
The good news is that the cops in Millis are forgiving guys who would give the same leeway to a "civilian."
