When gun-toting members of the Oath Keepers turned up at the demonstrations in Ferguson, Missouri, last week, it was widely suggested that the cops would not be nearly as tolerant if faced with similarly armed black demonstrators. The St. Louis Post-Dispatchreports that the organization didn't like the sound of that:
Sacramento Bee, 1967
Oath Keepers, an organization that has drawn attention by sending armed members to the streets of Ferguson, is organizing a demonstration for black residents there to carry rifles openly, a spokesman said.
Sam Andrews, of Eureka, representing Oath Keepers, said Monday the group wants to help black citizens engage in open carry of long-barrel firearms. Andrews said the group got the idea after black demonstrators told them this month that they would risk being shot if they showed up with firearms in the way that several white members of the Oath Keepers did.
"We're going to demonstrate to the world that black people have the same rights as white people," Andrews said.
According to the Post-Dispatch, Andrews "isn't ready to say when and where the new demonstration will be held." On Friday another site, Red Dirt Report, quoted Andrews saying he expects the march to happen in the next "couple of weeks." Stay tuned to learn whether, when, and in what form the demo finally appears.
In the meantime, check out this Facebook thread, where supporters of the Huey P. Newton Gun Club—the group that launched the #BlackOpenCarry movement—argue about whether marching with the Oath Keepers would be a good idea. Responses range from "I learned about the oath keepers a long time ago and of what I learned, they were the good guys" to "Don't touch the Oath Keepers. They're vigilantes whose concept of open carry is about white aggression and the defense of white power and privilege." The Newton Club's position? According to the person who put up the original Facebook post: "We say no thanks our platform is human rights theirs is civil liberties."

""We say no thanks our platform is human rights theirs is civil liberties.""
What. The. Fuck.
Is this just some kind of rhetorical judo meant to be understood as,
"just because on the surface, black people and white people *appear to be on the exact same side of an issue*... well see, its NOT, because.... like, uh....fuck that.."
Must be something like that. Apparently this is under the umbrella of "social justice" language that I just haven't learned to speak. I never would have guessed that human rights and civil liberties were incompatible. Or even less than colloquially interchangeable. Huh.... live and learn.
Human rights are generally thought of as the most fundamental rights. They include the right to life, education, protection from torture, free expression, and fair trial...Civil rights protect citizens from discrimination and grant certain freedoms, like free speech, due process, equal protection, the right against self-incrimination, and so forth.
I am terrified that there are people out there to whom that word salad makes sense.
"We're going to demonstrate to the world that black people have the same rights as white people," Andrews said."
Well, obviously if this doesn't conform to the predominate progressive narrative and confirm all of their preexisting biases, then it can't possibly be true.
I thought she was gonna skate. But then, I'm old enough to have thought Nixon was gonna skate.
Given that Nixon was an (R), his ass-bite was not totally surprising; he was gonna get called on his lies,
Given that the hag Shrillary is (D), she may well yet skate. (D)s get to lie; it's what they do.

That FB thread is for "The People's New Black Panther Party", not the gun club. The PNBPP just referenced the gun club's post.
No, it's on the Gun Club's Facebook page; they just shared the link from the Panthers' page. To see the (shorter) discussion on the Panthers' feed, go here.
I wanted to join the CO chapter of the Oath Keepers but found that I wasn't welcome:

I guess that 2 combat tours in Afghanistan as a US Marine and an unwavering allegiance to the US Constitution just wasn't enough. Shucks.
[Editor's Note: Liam, Semper Fi!, Brother! (USMC VietVet, '66&'67) I do not mean to interfere with your comms with your State leadership, but will tell you that Oath Keepers does not require any specific religious belief, or lack thereof. I, as editor of this site, am an Agnostic, and absolutely want nothing to do with any organized religion. What we require for membership here is your determination to honor your Oath. You're good to go, Brother. Welcome aboard.
Salute!

"We say no thanks our platform is human rights theirs is civil liberties."
Human Rights has lately (always?) had a tinge of Free Shit and censorship in it. That's the best I can think of.
MLKJ was a race traitor because he marched for Constitutionally defined and protected civil rights rather than nebulous human rights.
They do believe in freedom from commas.
"We're going to demonstrate to the world that black people have the same rights as white people," Andrews said.
Does a person possess a right if he can be shot with impunity by state agents for exercising that right?
Well, if black people have zero rights, and neither do white people, then "black people have the same rights as white people".
Join oath keepers, become a white supremacist

What they mean by human rights are positive rights. Living wage, healthcare, housing, food, yada, yada, yada.
FYI: What is the Difference Between a Human Right and a Civil Right?
Trigger Warning: Horribly anti-libertarian understanding of the concept of rights.
I am terrified that there are people out there to whom that word salad makes sense.
Well, sure. All you have to do is charter a flight aboard the next Soyuz flight. But why would you want to fight a bunch of astronauts?
They're stealing our women to found a colony on Mars.
As long as they keep John Madden on the Moon.
I actually listened to all of that.
and i found "Beep beep. space stuff" the funniest
"A black astronaut, Cyril! That's like killing a unicorn!"

There's a Dave Chappelle skit in here somewhere.
This is exactly the kind of outreach we need. It's so beautiful.
More than two years after the State Department claimed there were no emails responsive to an FOIA request, the Department has informed a judge it has located such 17,855 emails.
With all due respect, WTF *is* it with the State Department?
This sounds so respectful, until one realizes the answer of "how much is due" is not a positive number.

Just stop with the misogyny and admit you hate Hillary because she's a woman already.

The state leader apparently misspoke.
I think the word 'also' is just another inclusive qualifier.
Yes, "also" does not mean "only".
Kinda the opposite, in context.
Report back on your Oathkeeper experience, Otis!
