If you're old enough to join the Marines, then you are old enough to drink a beer or smoke a cigarette.
I wouldn't trust a marine to be able to make the decision to drink or smoke, so that's a bad metric.
UnCivil, I'm sure you are only mocking the Marine infantry. Us air wing Marines are actually pretty smart (well, at least compared to the infantry).
I generally mock the most redundant branch of the Navy for duplicating the efforts of everyone else, only not as well.
*legalistic disclaimer - I post out of sarcasm and bad taste. If any of you (especially the jarheads) have any strong feelings towards the corps, my 'ribbing' is not meant as an attack on the traditions of naval infantry and air force.
Why don't Marines eat pickles?
Can't fit their head in the jar.
/Army recruiter told me this
When you consider that the Marine Corps has selected those who are most likely to willingly jump out of a perfectly good, working helicopter into the middle of a machine gun's field of fire well, at the very least the values those grunts use to guide their choices must be difficult to fathom.
I don't have much experience, but the few Marines I know seem more than capable of making life choices.
They proved that assessment wrong when they enlisted in the Marines.
"I CAN'T HEAR YOU, MAGGOT!"
"Well if you'd stop talking to the trash cans by the mess hall, maybe you'd get a response."
*** chuckles ***
Give me five!
"Actually, we're raising the enlistment age to 27."
You can join the Marines at 18, but you are still not old enough to legally consent to sex with your teacher either, nor can you buy a handgun.
On the other hand you're never too young to be charged with a crime.
Marines are riflemen, they don't need handguns.
The Hawaii law is even stupider than it appears at first. It's mainly directed against vaping, not smoking.
Out of control vaping makes Hawaii raise smoking age to 21
Mother's milk vaping pretty much nails it.
soooo... when exactly does adulthood begin again? That number seems to be going up & up.
Wait, wait, don't tell me!
At conception?
I remember in highschool when my one my punk rawk friends said she couldn't wait to turn 18 so she would be treated like an adult. Ha.
Odd side story about her - she would do any drug under the sun - weed, coke, acid, etc - along with a bunch of drinking. I often had to drag her passed out body out of the car and throw her onto the sofa. Now she's a cop.
I think it's 26 years old now. That's the age when parental insurance gets off.
