DEA Chief to Step Down, Deal Reached on Human Trafficking Legislation, EU May Allow Countries to Ban GMO Crops: P.M. Links

-
Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) head Michele Leonhart, who was raked over the coals recently over scandals within her organization (sex parties!), appears to be resigning soon.
- The videotaped, televised beating of a Southern California man by a pack of San Bernardino County deputies has already resulted in a $650,000 settlement.
- Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says legislators have reached a bipartisan deal on anti-human-trafficking legislation, which means that attention may soon turn to Loretta Lynch's nomination for attorney general.
- Ousted Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for deaths of protesters that were the result of a violent crackdown.
- The European Union is considering giving its member states the authority to ban the sales of genetically modified crops. (Hat tip to Ken)
- The Supreme Court has ruled, 6-3, that police can't prolong a simple traffic stop so that a drug-sniffing dog can brought in to investigate the vehicle.

...appears to be resigning soon.
Soon to be replaced by someone I'm sure will be oh so much better.
How about your mom?
How about she makes you a knuckle sandwich?
She already does that. My safeword is "antiquing".
HA!
my safe word is "boring"
Hello.
Could we please define 'sex parties'?
Looks like Bayern had Porto right where they wanted them...
***UEFA SPOILER ALERT***
In the ass?
I stopped at the first half for both games. They were over by then.
There's an internet search for that. Might not be SFW. But it does make up roughly 80% of the intertoobs.
No. I want our collective imagination to work it.
You want us all to channel our inner 'lack of natural sweetener'?
*shudders*
What in holy fuck is wrong with you?
Here goes: define 'sex parties' - When Epi goes 'antiquing'?
Is that resign as in quit, or resign as in sign up for more?
A contract extension?
Yes, frontloaded with incentives.
I'm sure she was resigned to a few things when she took the job.
The Supreme Court has ruled, 6-3, that police can't prolong a simple traffic stop so that a drug-sniffing dog can brought in to investigate the vehicle.
Someone discovered the 4th Amendment?
So how did that Oberlin event go?
As told, by a man
After taking questions from three women in a row, she took the final question from a man. The student behind me again remarked "Oh look another question from a boy!".
I politely asked her, "But weren't the last three girls?"
She glared at me and said, "This is an event about FEMINISM!"
After her discussion with the male student was finished, the same student said to me, "It's offensive that you said to me "Should she only call on pretty girls?"".
"That's not what I said. I asked weren't the last three questions from girls? You misunderstood, miss."
She continued to accuse me. I didn't bother to inform her that I was recording the speech and had our words on tape. It wouldn't have mattered.
Fuck those harpies. Sexbots can't come soon enough!
You just hurt those harpies' precious feelings!
Damn, you CPA, I almost linked that with the exact quotes. 🙂
Did you see the misspelled sign?
I wish he would post the audio, I want to hear how stupid she sounds.
Someone put this online in the comments.
Ha! Nice.
He wins the internet for today.
Oh dear, someone's gonna get dragged before Justice And Tolerance Committee Of Social Justice And Safe Spacedom. I mean, recording her without enthusiastic consent?! That's basically rape!
"YOU'RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR!"
"There is a gender imbalance in science."
"Maybe more women should decide to become scientists."
"DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!"
These people are beyond parody...
indeed
+1 Labor Theory of Value!
That is Epic Pretentious Illiterate material
Holy craptastic
That has to go in the Pantheon of Derp.
I can feel my brain leaking out my ear after reading that.
DON'T DO IT! IT'S MYERS!!
Christina Hoff Sommers tweeted out this video of two students advertising safe spaces while at her event. It's truly absurd.
No free pizza in the safe zone? Lame.
Sausage or pepperoni can be triggering.
"If we feel you're a toxic hater we're not going to let you into the event."
No need for bomb-sniffing dogs when there are detectors like this. 8-(
I'm guessing "Toxic" is defined as "white cis male"
I think its sort of "whatever feels wrong"
The SJWs of the world hate 'specific words' - they need amorphous, vague terms to prevent ever having to defend their views in detail.
I'm so glad they're gatekeeping to keep the toxic avenger away
I'm surprised that Oberlin College has not self-destructed and gone out of business already.
You act like there's not a ready supply of children of rich, far left wing individuals who don't want their children subjected to different opinions while they're in college.
I think mostly the parents are clueless and just want the opinionated little shit out of the house.
I'm suprised that anyone, anywhere, would ever hire anyone who had an Oberlin degree.
Normally I wouldn't trust a story with no evidence like that, but given all the pictures and video sent out from this event, I absolutely believe that story to be true. That's like the 20th weirdest thing to happen at this event.
This tweet from Ms. Sommers said it all, I feel.
No - that's not the best tweet. This is:
"Told students that women could narrow wage gap by changing majors from, say, sociology to engineering.Room erupted.Horrified gasps & jeers."
Don't bother us with your facts! Economic laws of resource allocation are sexist!
Why major in engineering when you can major in a sociology and bemoan how there are not enough women in the sciences?
SOCIOLOGY IS THE SCIENCE OF SOCIETY YOU SEXIST MANSPLAINER!
"Told students that women could narrow wage gap by changing majors from, say, sociology to engineering prostitution or panhandling."
Would also be correct; would likely cause heads to actually explode.
These dopes are mentally defective. How on God's earth do they even survive? According to Darwin they should be dead by now.
That's what the civil service and it's NGO branch plant is for. Jobs for lefties that produce nothing and serve no one, paid for by the taxes no one can avoid.
I like this one.
In Oberlin talk said that Orwell's Junior Anti-Sex League had occupied campus feminism."What the Hell is that?" shouted someone. Look it up.
? Christina H. Sommers (@CHSommers) April 21, 2015
It would have been a great bit of poetic justice if she had said 'Google it. I'm not here to do your research for you.'
Cmon get your terms right, enact your labor.
Wait, these nutbars are completely illiterate? Here's my shocked face.
CHS: "Plus, isn't it odd that Jezebel.com, a feminist website, named itself after a woman in the Bible who basically commits a bunch of murders? Why would you name yourself after one of the most despicable characters in the Bible?"
Student: "WHAT IS BIBLE I AM BEING WORD OPPRESSED, OMG EXPLAIN YOUR REFERENCES"
That is my favorite one. It's not just that the person doesn't know what that is or can't at least intuit what it refers to. It's that, in the middle of a lecture, this person yelled out that kind of question. A second grader is better behaved than that.
And as someone on Twitter said, the proper response to the question is, "It's not my job to educate you!"
That someone was quick enough to come back with "look it up" is pretty awesome really.
Hilarious.
Angry AND illiterate!
What could possibly go wrong.
This is reminiscent of when i mentioned that feminists were engaging in "Kulturkampf" on one of marcottes pieces
(this may have been the one post that got me banned from Raw Story... oh, the horror, i know)
none of them had ever seen the word before and accused me of being a Nazi.
The Ghost of Bismarck weeps.
" "It's offensive that you said to me "Should she only call on pretty girls?""."
ITS OFFENSIVE TO ME THAT YOU SAID, "EVERYONE SHOULD BE RAPED MORE"
Calm down Steve Smith.
NO, STEVE SMITH AGREE - MORE RAPE!
Awww, isn't that precious? He thinks that facts and reality matter to feminists. Didn't he pay attention of Phi Kappa Psi, UVA, Rolling Stone, and Sabrina Erdely?
The Narrative is all that matters and The Narrative is based on FEELZ.
He's lucky she didn't accuse him of rape.
Can we wall off Europe? I'm worried about their idiocy infesting the rest of the globe.
Too late, why do you think most of the colonies went gaga Marxists on liberation? Because their new leaders were educated in European capitals of their respective colonial powers.
But remember: It's Americans who believe in nonsense. The world needs sophisticated Europeans to carry the torch of reason and modernity.
Dude. Waaaayyyy too late.
Its just protectionism from cheaper African and Eurasian farming. GMO is the excuse du jour.
No, those walls are standing strong and sturdy. This is to ensure no local farmers dream of going GMO and undercutting competition. Oh, and also to prevent intra-EU competition from damnable Eastern half-humans who were let in and are now screwing up the CAP for the French.
The videotaped, televised beating of a Southern California man by a pack of San Bernardino County deputies has already resulted in a $650,000 settlement.
And behavior modification?
The only behavior modification that I can see is the cops first beating up the videographer, confiscating his camera, and then proceeding to do the actual beating.
In other words, destruction of evidence.
Tsk, tsk, Injun. Destruction of evidence is a crime that only peasants commit. When the Warrior Caste destroys something, that just means it wasn't relevant to the case.
Is "pack" the proper collective noun for a group of cops? Would a "swarm" or a "scrum" or a "gang" be a better term?
A passel of popo; a sounder of cops.
The proper term is "Thugscrum".
Michele C?ur de Salope.

Obama only mentions the Christians to lecture them.
He's a lecturer by profession. Old habits die hard.
Well, if his public lectures we're currently witnessing are any indication, he's pretty shitty at it.
Yeah but he may yet get tenure!
They died with dignity as they called out to their God, while the cowardly murderers masked their faces.
Indeed. If you're so confident in what you believe, why not do it *openly*?
I really like Kirsten, she put of with O'reilly and made him look stupider than usual on the WOD.
And she calls out fellow team blue morons.
We can always use another hot libertarian gal....c'mon over Kirsten, may the force be with you.
...which means that attention may soon turn to Loretta Lynch's nomination for attorney general.
That rubber stamp just didn't come out quick enough, you racists.
Disgusting fuckstain Jazz Shaw thinks cop not killing a suspect is a win for the forces of darkness.
Why Jesse Kidder should have shot Michael Wilcox
The suspect, Mr. Wilcox, was not some random person pulled over for an expired inspection sticker or carrying an open container. He had been pursued across state lines as a suspect in a double homicide. At the time that Wilcox was located, it's true that dispatchers had informed Kidder that he might try committing suicide by cop, but they also warned that he could have a gun under the seat of his vehicle. This encounter didn't simply justify the normal level of precaution which police need to exercise in any possible interaction with alleged criminals, but extraordinary precaution.
If Kidder had shot Wilcox there isn't a jury in the land that would have convicted him, though he would still be pulled out of service during the automatic investigation. If Kidder had died, well? we'd probably never have heard about the story in the national press. But as it turned out, this is a big win for the anti-cop forces in the media and the social justice movement who want to portray law enforcement as the bad guys. If this sort of response becomes the norm in America, we're going to see a lot more dead cops and there are plenty of activists out there who won't be shedding any tears over that.
I can't even comprehend that. Nope. I didn't see that. It's a joke. Certainly nobody would be upset that a police officer didn't murder somebody. Nope.
I need a safe space. With puppies. And crayons.
Well, to be fair, it sounds like he would have also been all right with the officer being shot to death for not maintaining a proper level of brutality.
/Six of one , half dozen of the other
I can't even...is his argument that if someone committed a bad enough crime (ALLEGEDLY!) that the police should summarily execute them rather than try to bring them in alive?
"But as it turned out, this is a big win for the anti-cop forces in the media and the social justice movement who want to portray law enforcement as the bad guys."
I'm pretty sure this is a big win for people who are pro-cop since they can point to this guy as having done things the right way. Or at least it would have been a win for people who are pro-cop if Jazz Shaw weren't insane.
His argument seems to be that because this cop took this suspect in alive rather than shooting him other cops, deceived by the "fairy tale" of this arrest will be more likely to use restraint when dealing with suspects and then Armageddon for cops will break upon the land.
Holy shit, it's as if Jazz Shaw was a 20-year old reddit troll who somehow stood still while the rest of the world underwent relativistic time dilation.
I tip my fedora to you, Mr. Shaw.
It's a trilby!
For you Heroic:

And...
http://tabletmag.com/jewish-li.....an-holiday
So, was it a surprise for anyone when it turned out the cop was a Marine who only had one year on the job?
I think it's been discussed here before about how the police have less restraint than the military these days. I think this is another piece of evidence in favor of that theory. Guy was probably falling back on his military training rather than police training in this instance.
I spent a lot more of my time in war, exercising restraint, than ordering violence. On the whole, I think it turned out well.
Whoa, that's a despicable take. Statist fucks are apolitical and they all deserve scorn and probably beatings by us. Fuck this asshole.
What this means is that the EU wants scientists to go back to inefficient ways of gradually selecting and breeding crops, instead of using modern techniques to immediately bring about the desired result.
The videotaped, televised beating of a Southern California man by a pack of San Bernardino County deputies has already resulted in a $650,000 settlement.
I believe the correct collective noun for a group of police officers is a 'murder'

So I went through that horrific Santorum thread DK posted this morning. I don't know what's worse, me reading through most of it or the fact you clowns ran it for over 1400 posts. Why can't this bunch hit 1000 on a regular basis?
Anyway:
"Roz|11.12.06 @ 3:33PM|#
What makes me laugh is the average IQ displayed by the jokers over here. Reminds me of a typical 11-year-old boy who blows milk out of his nose laughing whenever anyone says "fart" or "breast".
I'm going to give y'all the benefit of the doubt and assume that lethal doses of bad Saturday Night Live skits and a South Park addiction has made your brains soggy. Sheesh."
Personally, 'tit' always gets the 7Up running through my nose. Fart is a universal laugh axiom for all males.

The commentary three years after the article was first posted is fucking HILARIOUS!
I'm tempted to reboot it. Make it the longest on-going thread in history or something.
Santorum's nightmare.
Believe it or Not!
Was that the salty ham tears thread?
Could someone explain to me why anyone cares so much about Santorum? He hasn't been in the Senate for almost ten years. Yet, people seem to obsess over him. Have the forgotten about the number of shitbags who actually have any power and hold office?
I don't think people care for him so much as they enjoy the memory of his fall from power to irrelevancy.
The dude was and is a horrible scumbag, and thought it be unchristian of me, the thought of him suffering psychic anguish because nobody has to defer or listen to him anymore gives me pleasure.
The picture accompanying the story makes it seem that his kids were the ones suffering psychic anguish ------- at the prospect of daddy being around a lot more.
Santorum is an extremely mockable social conservative, and thus an exemplary boogieman.
To be sure, that thread is attached to a post about his departure from the Senate at the time of his sad, sad booting from that august office.
Why can't this bunch hit 1000 on a regular basis?

Progressive Liberal politicos rush to Cuba to drive vintage American cars, mug with Castro, and drink in the *precious authenticity* of a socialist utopia before the evils of Corporatism destroy it all.
At this point, they're just evil psychos with no moral compass.
Liberals that is.
I read what went on in Wisconsin. Like I said. Evil.
I say we buy the country from the Castros and make it into a socialist theme park. Understanding that it will merely be simulated socialism, not the real thing. We'll pay locals well to act like they live that way.
Meh.
Put up a Wally World I say!
Cuba is big. There are many theme park opportunities there.
The possibilities are literally endless!
Literally. After all, we could just build up, into infinite space. Or infinite enough for our purposes, anyway.

MINNESOTANS
I will be in your fine state over the weekend in order to take the lead in an odd bet with an odd friend. Flying into MSP late Friday and out early Monday and driving up to Bemidji likely on Saturday.
Any recommendations or interest in grabbing beer? Are there even any Minnesotans here!?
Bet it snows.
Surly Brewing Company.
Beer Advocate rates their Abrasive Ale the number 1 IPA in the world. It's located near the University of Minnesota and not all that far from the airport.
http://surlybrewing.com/
Surly isn't that close to the airport.
You're flying in late Friday and leaving for Bermidji on Saturday? That's a 5-hour drive. That's not a lot of brew-time.
Flying out Monday morning though.
Less than ten miles and in between the airport and NE Minneapolis.
Google Map Directions for:
MSP Airport Terminal 1, Fort Snelling, MN
Surly Brewing Co., Malcolm Avenue Southeast, Minneapolis, MN
Bemidji, MN
Actually very convenient. And the food is damn good (as well as the beer).
Going to see the original lumbersexual statue?
My friend is currently winning 5-2 on pictures with Paul Bunyan statues, and I need to step up my game.
Well you can tie it up in MN, but you have to go to Brainerd and Akeley too.
Isn't there a giant statue of Paul Bunyon up in Northern Cali somewhere? I seem to remember seeing it when we went to see the giant redwoods when I was a kid.
There are a few. You may be thinking of the one at Trees of Mystery although there's one near Redding, and two near Sacramento. She managed to get double points for two of them being in the same lot in Hayward. Menacing, no?
Got a 403 error on your link.
And "Trees of Mystery" rings a bell, so I think that may be it.
Hmm, here's the site the image was from, if you scroll down about 1/3 you'll see the menacing Hayward ones.
I've also gotten the one in Mentone, which is randomly in someone's yard with a Statue of Liberty and some giant chickens.
There's a large Paul Bunyan statue in Bangor, Maine as well with a casino across the street.

If Obama were anything but a feckless moron, the Iranians wouldn't dream of confronting the Navy. Since he is, they are likely to think he is bluffing and ignore the blockade leaving us the choice of rolling over and totally losing credibility or starting a shooting war.
My guess is Obama rolls over and allows the US to be humiliated one more time on his watch. At some point, however, even a feckless moron like Obama gets pushed too far. And that is how really big wars start.

Certainly the seizure constitutes resisting arrest and attempted battery, right?

Police discover emaciated child help prisoner in a basement.
During trial of parents for abuse, lawyers attack officers for feeding the boy Fast Food
I presume the charge is that they should have considered healthier options?
More like defense lawyers are morons.
I don't know what the defense lawyer's motivation is, but if the boy was really suffering from like Somalia-level of malnutrition, then the cop's "heart in the right place" trip to McD's could have put the kid at risk for cardiac failure.
you're probably right.
from what i read, the cops were having trouble luring the kid out of the dungeon hole, and Mickey D's was the thing that did the trick.
Had his heart exploded, i think they'd rightfully be called out for lack of foresight.
Jesus titty-fucking Christ!
That takes days to manifest! Take him to the hospital to be checked out, tell the docs what you did, and they hook the kid up to an IV with the electrolytes he needs, and he's not going to die.

ASU ROTC cadets forced to march in high heels for sexual assault awareness event
This article seems to be saying it was a fabulous voluntary event.
Lol
"The Army openly encouraged participating in April's "Walk A Mile in Her Shoes" events in 2014, but now it appears as though ROTC candidates at ASU were faced with a volunteer event that became mandatory."
This reminds me of something I came across recently while trying to find the best distinction between 'empathy' and 'sympathy'.
it went like this =
- "Walking a mile in a woman's high heels will give a man a genuine sense of empathy for women's experiences;
- It will also, however, destroy any sympathy they may have had for choices that women make, and probably reinforce a misogynistic view of them as silly, superficial idiots"
At least they didn't do this drill:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2ecasPqhgk
The WSJ editorial page sure has a knack for saying shrill, ludicrous things about Snowden:

This one is even more unhinged than her usual fare. I can't figure out what rule they broke or what they disrupted. They were apparently kicked out before the floor opened because there was a GG logo on the corner of their banner.
Marcotte really is the most loathsome person writing on the internet. She does not seem to have a single redeeming feature as a person.
She also called the people who fought to take back the Hugo awards "whinny babies". Marcotte doesn't seem to deal very well when people stand up to her.
What was tried in gaming and scifi, actually worked here. they were sucessfully able to mobilize the antibodies and flush the foreign matter out of the tumor of insanity they've created in the last 15 years. I'm still amazed that it's no longer working in gaming and scifi.

Yeah I suppose the "Murder Junkies" didn't provide venues an advance rider stipulating that the audience be cool with having 'shit thrown on them', 'spit on', 'masturbated at'., etc.
Prosecutor undercharges so murderer cop goes free
'That's because Illinois law says that intentionally firing a gun at someone on the street "is an act that is so dangerous it is beyond reckless," Porter wrote. "It is intentional and the crime, if any there be, is first-degree murder."'
Oopsie, the state undercharged the state and now double jeopardy means the state walks. That's my kind of checks and balances.
You know, all of this attempted resuscitation of the Fourth Amendment is good, but let's look at the real legal news of the day, the important this going on:

Isn't Minnesota Manitoba's twin brother?
It's actually Sweden. There's a portal on every road in.
I do not know yet. I bought tickets to force myself to go, and am finalizing my itinerary. The goal is to get a picture with as many Paul Bunyan statues as possible and Minnesota is positively lousy with them. The first night I'm going to look for something on the NE corner of town just to make an easy launching point for ~8 hours of driving + whatever sightseeing, eating, drinking I do.
When I get back I want to be near bars and interesting things, and probably homos. It'd be a shame if I flew all the way out to MN and didn't sample the local flavor.
It is possible, while in Minnesota, to drive through the Valley of the Jolly Green Giant. I don't know what it is about Minnesota and their fascination with giant men. And Spam, which is an abomination before man and God.
Make sure you stop in at the positively horrendous Paul Bunyan statue in Akeley.
It's shocking.
My brother built Paul Bunyan's chair in Pequot Lakes! It's right next to the main highway.
You say "Paul Bunyan statues", I say "sex dolls for bears".

Uptown/Loring Park would have the culture you'd like. But the best thing about Minneapolis are the lakes. Lake Harriet is very beautiful to walk/bike around. Also if you like bookstores, Magers & Quinn is my favorite. As for sightseeing, Mill City Museum and the mill ruins are cool. Not very exciting though.
I looked into visiting it, but it's in the opposite direction and wouldn't count toward my bet. I also may miss out on Paul Bunyan Land's giant animatronic Paul Bunyan because it's the off season.
I dunno, Jolly Green Giant, Paul Bunyan, what's the difference?
Is Akeley the one that's crouched down so you can stand in his hand? It can't be worse than the one in Isle, MN which is a 15-foot plywood cutout.
Ew, I didn't even know about that one.
There's also a model train museum in St. Paul which is cool

Excellent. Walking will be good after a full day of driving the day before. Walks around lakes sound pleasant.
Giant men with smaller sidekicks. Wrestler governors, comedian Senators. Weirdness.
Your forgot Husker Du.
And Prince
But will I meet any of these people?
Prince, definitely. And he'll make pancakes for you in the morning.
And Bob Dylan
