I was reading about the Mormon revelation in 1978 that said black people can become priests, and there is some really brilliant Orwellian memory-holing going on with the reactions to the decision. Here's what an apostle of the church said:

He laid it on pretty thick, but my impression simply from reading that is that he is calling on people to embrace the idea of black priests and not cling to past prejudices.

I actually have to admire someone who is willing to say that their prophet(s) got it wrong in the past and that they are smarter and more enlightened now and will act accordingly. I'd like to see that more often from religions, my own included.

Few things are more annoying than trying to chat with someone who starts with the premise that having water is a "right" and that the only thing keeping people everywhere from having free drinking water is capitalistic greed.

That water costs money to get, treat, transport, and deliver costs lots of money and capital doesn't matter because "water shouldn't be treated like a commodity."

Then we move on to how capitalism is the source of all of the world's ills and shortages.

It's the mindset that particular commodities shouldn't be "treated like commodities" because they are necessary. It's a complete lack of even a rudimentary understanding of economics.

People need water so the fact that it costs money to get water to places that don't have much of it shouldn't matter!

They simply don't get that water is a resource that's just like any other, and costs actual money to procure and deliver in potable form. And even if they do acknowledge that, they say "well it shouldn't matter." And when you state that "should" has nothing to do with it, you're called a corporate shill, etc.

And what's worse is that he didn't stop at just water, but that "basic foodstuff" and electricity should be added to that.

Is this a criminal homicide? The prosecutor indicates that it's *not:* "The issues involving an unborn child are complicated under Colorado law. In most circumstances, if a child was not actually born alive, then homicide charges are not possible."

In 2013, the state legislature turned down a bill which would have made killing a baby under these circumstances a crime.

Abortions are exempted from the normal process of law at the mother's discretion, so why not charge crimes against the mother and her presumptive child along the same lines? If she gave every indication that she wanted to have the child (which isn't farfetched if she kept the pregnancy), why shouldn't the fetus be treated as a victim?
