Senate Passes A Clean DHS Funding Bill while House Republicans Consider "Options"
House Republicans don't grok that there is no way to win this fight
With Ted Cruz busy making love to Sean Hannity at CPAC, Senate Republicans moved this morning to approve

funding for the Department of Homeland Security, less than 24 hours before a shutdown. This bill, that'll basically fund the DHS for the rest of the year, passed 68-31.
The Senate also held a separate vote to move forward with a measure from Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) to halt Obama's 2014 executive actions on immigration, which Democrats agreed not to block in the future as long as DHS had been fully funded first. That motion, as per the Huffington Post, failed to get the 60 votes it needed to go ahead, with a tally of 57-42.
Huff Post explains that Collins' bill would have stopped two policies that have been temporarily halted in the courts: the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents program and an expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The programs are aimed at allowing parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents or undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children to remain in the U.S. with three years' work authorization.
Now the ball is in the House's court where Republicans have not yet grokked that their strategy of tying funding for DHS with defunding Obama's executive action can't possibly prevail. Contrary to the Senate vote, they are not prepared to extend DHS funding for the whole year, just for three weeks, so that the agency can operate while they think of other ways to kill Obama's executive "amnesty."
But barring a coup to eject Obama from the White House and deporting him back to Kenya so that he can't use his veto authority, I can't imagine what they might be.
Perhaps H&R readers can help.

How squeamish are you?
Not approving Loretta Lynch until he plays ball on something would have been a good start. SLD: Not approving Lynch at all would have been the right thing to do.
This.
It takes so little, and it means so much.
"House Republicans don't grok that there is no way to win this fight"
Just make up some nice legalities to clean up the Lightworker's muddy tracks across the Constitution, OK you stupid xenophobes!
they are not preparead [sic] to extend DHS funding for the whole year, just for three weeks, so that the agency can operate while they think of other ways
IIRC, Jeh Johnson said that his people would report to work no matter what.
So, simply do not extend DHS funding, even for three weeks.
It's called a standoff. It takes balls to pull it off, which is why the republicans will fold.
If you're going to die on a hill, make sure to pick a hill worth dying on.
Nah, they are just playing dead.
They are pining for the fjords.
There was a lot of prolonged squawking going on around Capitol Hill recently...
Anyone still think these two parties have different agendas?
The political class is tag-teaming us.
More like spit-roasting us.
Goddamn McConnell is worthless as tits on a boar.
Once again, the Stupid Party performs as expected.
"Perhaps H&R readers can help."
Yes, we are a mature bunch.
Uh, no YOU are, dooty head!!!
*touches Playa's arm, runs away laughing*
*gets potato gun out of closet*
Given that we live in a banana republic, discussing a coup d'etat to solve a constitutional crisis seems entirely appropriate.
"When in the course of human wvents it becomes necessary..."
It's the American Way
Sic semper tyrannis, bitch!
I believe this to be a very good point.
Additionally, I would be interested in subscribing to any newsletters you may publish, etc. etc. etc.

Only if I get to be Military Governor of my County. Then I will get a subscription!
The only way to win is not to play! Let DHS go unfunded.
When exactly did the lefties come to love the Department of Homeland Security so much anyway?
When the realized what a massive and powerful domestic security organization the Republicans built without thinking.
Damn, I think you nailed it.
SEIU told them it would be for the best.
The problem is that most mainstream Republicans aren't creeped out by the DHS yet - and aren't willing to admit that the whole thing was a titanic overreaction to 911. Maybe a bill to rename it Fatherland Security and consolidate the ATF and DEA into a single organization called State Terrorist Avoidance Security Institute, STASI for short, would make it more obvious to them.
To me, DHS is no more sacred than the Dept of Education or Commerce. Just something more to cut the moment I have the ability to do so.
It wouldn't matter. Not just because irony is dead, but because most members of Team Red believe that it's different when America does it.
No Drake. The problem is that a good portion of the GOP leadership likes what Obama is doing and don't really want to stop it.

The courts enforcing the law? How about that Shika?
Also, why is it that Reason is forever calling Republicans cowards for not using the power of the purse to stop Obma, yet every time they do so, Reason immediately publishes an article talking about how stupid they are and how they just don't get how pointless resistance is?
Eighty percent of DHS are emergency essential personnel and have to go to work. Shutting down DHS would have no effect.
Invoke the Reid Rule, pass a DHS budget that de-funds amnesty and tell Obama to sign it or fuck off. Obama would back down and sign it. We know he would or the Democrats wouldn't be filibustering. Think about it, why are they filibustering and taking the political heat when they could just have their lame duck President veto it? It is because they know they would lose such a showdown and think Obama would fold.
I get paid over $87 per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I'd be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The potential with this is endless. Heres what I've been doing,,,,,,

Given that the GOP has no interest in scuttling DHS, it is amazing that they keep wasting everyone's time over this. And now a 3 week extension where they will be forced once again to capitulate, and do what? Pass another 3 week extension? Full funding? This isn't even a symbolic fight...its a fight among nitwit Republicans who have never understood something that all parents teach their children in arguments...pick your battles. Some you aren't going to win.
Really, a bunch of nitwits.
This will go badly for the GOP until they finally understand that the Dems aren't interested in doing what is right for the country and it's citizens. They're not for saving the constitution. They're not for 92,898,000 (as reported by the BLS) U.S. Citizens getting the well paying jobs Illegals take.
All they care about is getting their own way in order to make the country into a country of favorites and hated people and will tell any lie, no matter how outrageous it is, to turn the GOP into the scapegoats and make them suffer so the GOP will do their usual caving in to stop being bullied.
Forget about integrity and honesty. It's lost and gone in Congress and much of this country.
