Nevada Can't Stop Cabs From Ripping Off Riders, Bans Uber Anyway
Simple. Better. That's the free market. But government is force, and force can win even when it's wrong.

It's easy to "fire" a business that rips you off. Just go to a different one. It's a lot easier to patronize another business than to get government to fix the problem. But bad businesses and the politicians they own, I mean influence, often don't want you to have that choice.
I've written about how taxi companies don't like competition from ride-sharing services like Uber. Taxi companies, rightly, say it's unfair that they have to obey all kinds of rules and get complicated licenses that Uber drivers don't get.
Rather than getting rid of the excessive regulations, many local politicians just say that new competition is "unfair" and ban ride-hailing services. They've banned Uber in places like Thailand, Spain, Nevada, and Massachusetts. But customers like ride-hailing services. Uber is a multi-billion dollar business—despite being banned and despite Uber executives doing some sleazy things.
Government claims we need all its regulations to keep us from being ripped off. But their endless rules don't stop rip-offs. For years, Las Vegas tourists have complained that cabbies cheat them by taking them to the strip via a roundabout route. Undercover cops ran tests and found that one in three Vegas taxis break the rules.
Firefox founder Blake Ross blogged about this after a cabby ripped him off. Government responded to this problem as governments usually do: It issued complex rules and warnings. Ross calls it a five-part plan:
Plan A: people with guns. "Uniformed cops stopped occupied cabs at random and offered to prosecute drivers who were taking inefficient routes … slowing you down to make sure your driver isn't slowing you down."
But that didn't work. The authorities' chief investigator said only three passengers pressed complaints: "They just wanted to get to their hotels." Duh. Tourists didn't want to spend their vacation in court over a $10 rip-off.
Plan B: big signs. "Each sign," writes Ross, "enumerates the proper taxi fares for every conceivable trip … using approximately twice as many words as it took Ronald Reagan to tear down the Berlin Wall."
And more time. It took the taxicab authority two years to put up the signs. "All things take time in government," said the administrator. The signs didn't stop the cheating.
So government implemented Plan C: a big online spreadsheet listing bad drivers. That didn't work either.
On to Plan D: a PDF. Bureaucrats love PDF's. Las Vegas asks you to print out a witness statement for people who have been taken on an overly long route and "complete the sworn affidavit in view of a public notary."
I like how Ross sums up plan D: Just carry "a desktop computer, a printer, envelopes, stamps, a fax machine, [and] notary … note the driver's full name, permit number, and physical appearance. If you don't have this information memorized for some reason, just ask the driver while you're locked in the car with him … explain that you're trying to have him fired."
Ross actually bothered to try out the government's complaint system when he was ripped off, but he never heard back from any Vegas official. That's how government consumer protection typically operates.
Finally, Plan E: The Nevada Taxicab Authority "convened a committee." The committee, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, will "draw up guidelines … for a software … package designed to let the authority track cab movements."
Nevada estimates that this will cost about $6 million per year, writes Ross, "and you'll pay for this through an increase in your taxi fares, which are already about double the price of an UberX ride."
But Uber already has a solution if drivers cheat: On the Uber app, customers give that driver just one star. Within hours, Uber adjusts your fare. If the driver scams people again, he's fired.
Simple. Better. That's the free market.
But Vegas officials kicked the company out of town. Government is force. Government can always win, even when it's wrong.

Government is force.
Short and sweet.
I used to think my version was pretty short.
This is much better.
Government is murder, kidnapping, theft and extortion all disguised as 'justice'.
"You have to play by the rules!"
Says a OWS activist who supports open borders and hate speech laws, right before he's set to block traffic.
The government wins... until they don't.
*lazily spins globe looking for a free country*
Yeah, I'm still waiting.
*switches Google Earth mode to moon mode and spins*
Check and mate Fizban. Nicely done.
Yes, but the moon is a harsh mistress.
While I enjoy the total freedom offered by the moon, I wish that my blood wouldn't boil inside my body whenever I visit.
Nuh uh! If the government wins then they are right! Because might makes right!

Uber is a criminal enterprise that is breaking multiple laws, ignores regulations, evades local taxes and municipal dues on the scale of billions of dollars worldwide.
Thousands of small transportation businesses are following these existing laws, complying with regulations, paying dues, taxes and surcharges frequently while offering SAME technology - apps, websites, manned-dispatch centers. Why should $44 billion dollars
Uber corporation be excluded from all those requirements and burdens at the expense of
thousands of local small transportation businesses?
Citibank offer an app. Do you see Citibank self-excluding itself from following banking laws
and regulations? Do it stop being a bank? Of course, not.
Uber Is nothing short of a criminal organization facing RICO charges in multiple jurisdictions
and bans all over across the globe. Overpaying for underinsured unlicensed unregulated ride in an Uber vehicle while risking your life and safety is not worth it.
I sincerely hope that was sarcasm.
Not amusing enough to be sarcasm.
Nah. Paid shill.
Hey, as long as it doesn't devolve into a "You talking to me?" attitude, amiright?
Fuck you, that's why.
Uber are law-breaking tax-evading criminals. Your parasitic lawlessness will end. Mark it.
lol'd, now it's the wealth creators that are the parasites?
You assume the people that use Uber would've used a regular cab in Uber's absence, dumb fuck.
I never used cabs but when uber came to orlando and I could do a round trip to city walk for 20 bucks I started using it. Now the wife and I can have a few drinks and not worry about who is driving home. That's is until the city and Buddy dyer voted to regulate uber. I'll see what the price goes to next month, but most likely I'll be back to swapping who is DD.
Thousands of people are in fact uninstalling Uber...
No one needs 24/7 tracking device on them (that would be Uber app, search 'God's view' and see how Uber employees were tracking uber app users).
No one needs unregulated underinsured surge-priced ride.
No one needs risking their lives and wellbeing to satisfy Uber's greedy corrupt corporate agenda.
No one needs unregulated underinsured surge-priced ride.
That should be for the customer to decide. Not you or the government.
Really? Uber tracks me even when the app isn't running and I'm not in the car?
Silly boy. If that were the case, the government would have co-opted their technology years ago.
Thousands of people are in fact uninstalling Uber...
That's a lie and a fantasy. You cannot win and have already lost.
Which cab company shill are you on the LVRJ forums?
When you say
"No one needs 24/7 tracking device on them"
does that mean you have the only smart phone on the planet that doesn't already have that feature?
Cheering for multi-billion dollar law-breaking tax-evading mega-corporation such as Uber makes your a paid troll.
I think technically you need to be paid to be a "paid troll". The value of the company has nothing to do with it.
So why do you care about $44 billion dollar Uber when there are HUNDREDS of other apps that offer exact same services? And better.
This fixation on criminal Uber enterprise is sickening.
Gosh. Both "exact same" and "better" at the same time.
Like cereal which is "new and improved" while having the same great flavor.
Bigmike is a cartel owner or just a goombah, and is scared shitless because his business model is a protected class thats losing its protections.
free markets will always prevail you socialist prick
So, BigMike, you hate one multi-billion dollar company because they "evade" taxes but you support other multi-billion dollar companies because they support using coercion and abusing customers while breaking other laws as long as they pay their taxes?
I'm guessing you are a beneficiary of entrenched cab companies. It's the only way I can understand how shrill and aggressive you are on this subject.
Come clean.
I think there is a much better chance that your parasitic fascism will end.
There's a simple solution for that which doesn't involve the use of force: don't use Uber if you don't like it.
Don't offer your services in violation of laws and regulations that others follow while offering same product.
If the law says you must suck one dick per day, are you going to obey?
Is that what Uber "partners" do when they slave off for a minimum wage pay?
Heh. You are a wonderful troll. I bet you get paid more than minimum wage by your cab company masters.
But then, did you have a choice to do this trollish work, like Uber drivers do, or were you coerced into it, as you would do to the Uber drivers?
He already does that, hoping the law will catch up and make it mandatory for everyone.
So you are opposed to liberty and free markets. Got it.
The market is free. That's how existing businesses are operating - by following laws and regulations. By paying lawful share of taxes.
If Uber doesn't want to pay - let's call that what it is - a law-breaking tax-evasion. Uber has nothing to do with free markets.
You obviously don't know what free markets are.
To be fair a "free" market doesn't have to be completely unregulated but it does need to allow for open competition, uninhibited innovation and other changes which allow for improved products and services or increases in efficiency.
In most cities cab companies do not operate in a free market.
Paying arbitrarily set regulatory license/medallion "fees" isn't free market. It's a barrier to entry.
Barrier. To. Entry.
Meaning, my imbecilic friend, the local government and existing medallion owners conspire to keep the market closed to competition and new entrants.
Why is it so hard for folks to recognize and understand cronyism and rent-seeking?
Why is it so hard for folks to recognize and understand cronyism and rent-seeking?
Licensing and regulation exist to protect us from evil businesses!
Without those well-intentioned licenses and regulations, every business would screw over their customers! Every single one! That's what businesses do! They screw over their customers! That's why we need licenses and regulation! To protect the people from predatory businesses! And they're all predatory!
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
"Why is it so hard for folks to recognize and understand cronyism and rent-seeking?"
Upton Sinclair - "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!"
The market is free...By paying lawful share of taxes.
I got a car for FREE last week, and it only cost me $22,000!
Licensing is a fancy word for Extortion
Extortion- taking away someones right to do something then selling it back to them.
Taxation is a fancy word for theft
Theft- taking that which does not belong to you
Hey mike the terrorists didn't write sharia law- they're just enforcing it
Embrace change or die, Mikey. Change or die, like the Neanderthals.
To be honest, I don't care which one you choose.
Well, ObeseMike, the laws is what we, the people make it, and we'll change it.
And it will be fun to see you reincarnated as an Uber driver, because then you will actually have to STFU and behave yourself, at least if you want to keep earning a living.
Practice groveling.
How about laws that are written by entrenched business's to prevent any competition enacted by prepurchased lawmakers?
Technology has rendered the old taxicab company business model obsolete.
The taxicab business is not unique in this regard. Brick-and-mortar travel agents of all sorts are obsolete.
The only thing that is peculiar to the taxicab business is how politically connected it is. It's business model has always been that of an abusive rent-seeker.
The technology existed LONG before Uber.
Operate by following taxicab laws.
Because that's what you are.
BigMike, Rent-Seeker Posterboy.
Cheering for multi-billion dollar criminal corporation. I wonder why.
On second thought spare us your Uber association details.
Yes, the old "you must be a paid Uber troll" line. I respond in kind. You'll have less time to bitch about your competition online if you park your car at the arrivals side of the airport. Departures doesn't mean they want to depart by cab.
Sure. Passenger raping Uber tax-evading rapists on wheels would be a much "nicer" option.
Why do we get the absolutely lamest trolls?
He's like anon-bot on steroids and fixated on Uber. Very weird. Almost like he's got an app for each post, they have so little individual content.
+1 Jsut roll that beautiful bean footage!
Because people get spoon fed bullshit about libertarians that's not even remotely true then they come here to emote at you instead of using any common sense or reason.
That's why we get the dumbest trolls, they come here out of a knee jerk reaction based solely on emotions
Passenger raping Uber tax-evading rapists on wheels
I'll take my chances as long as they dont smell of BO and rancid falafel.
Sure, I'll cheer for someone that breaks bad laws.
I wont cheer for someone for breaking bad laws, i will cheer when they recognize that there is no such thing as laws and that they are truly free humans of free will that choose to operate in a manner that fits their moral conscience regardless of societal views of such
Repeal the stupid taxicab laws.
But they're not taxicabs.
How about we just repeal most of those laws?
Thousands of small transportation businesses dozens of massive cab cartels are following using these existing laws, regulations, paying dues, taxes and surcharges for which they lobbied extensively to put smaller competitors out of business, frequently while offering drastically inferior SAME technology and service.
FTFY, shill.
You mean 161 lobbyists that Uber itself have admitted to have hired in DC alone ?
That's 161.
Well they are just playing by the same rules that you rent-seekers play by. I thought that's what you wanted?
Uber takes the exactly same cut from drivers. And more.
Only this time money taken ends up laundered in offshore Uber billionaire owners tax-evading accounts, instead of in the hands of local businesses and local municipal coffers.
Cheering for Uber serves only Uber's corporate interest at the expense of everyone else, including general public.
Well, you are right about one thing - money taken from drivers by government protected monopolies DOES end up in the hands of local municipalities.
Isn't that curious...a local municipality sets up a protection racket with a local cab company to take money from passengers and drivers...that benefits neither the drivers nor the passengers but does benefit the municipality and the medallion owners.
Very curious, indeed.
Herc has gotten less funny.
its not a zero-sum game mike.
the brutal taxation and exploitation by the state is falling apart, because the consumers will buy what they want regardless of laws, the drug war has taught us that.
Bigmike is just a big baby crying over the death of the extortion racket
Only this time money taken ends up laundered in offshore
...so start a competitive firm and run it to your moral specifications.
You mean it keeps it out of your hands? Sounds good to me.
How many lobbyists do the cab companies have?
They have BigMike, apparently.
How amusing -- your posts are wordy enough to make a bureaucrat proud. The answers are short and to the point. It takes you ten times the words to provide one-tenth the content.
Well played, Sir Troll!
Fuck off slaver.
Why should $44 billion dollars
Uber corporation be excluded from all those requirements and burdens at the expense of
thousands of local small transportation businesses?
Why should we add another victim to those regulations instead of just getting rid of them and freeing everyone?
Overpaying for underinsured unlicensed unregulated ride in an Uber vehicle while risking your life and safety is not worth it.
To you. Apparently lots of people think it is totally worth it. Why do you want to force those people to buy things they don't want?
Why?
Because THE CHI'DRENS!
If forcing people to buy things they don't want is good enough for healthcare, it's good enough for taxi service. . .
Inside the mind of a prog.
Shit sucks for some, so it should suck for everybody.
Agreed. They are real heroes.
Go Uber!
Lol, you are such a statist toolbag. Fuck off, cunt.
Just before I saw the paycheck which was of $9215 , I did not believe that my brothers friend was really making money part time from their computer. . there sisters neighbor has done this 4 only about seven months and recently paid for the loans on their home and purchased a great Fiat Panda .

That blog post by Blake Ross is hilarious. Cafe Hayek referred to it a few weeks ago, highly recommend reading the original.
Here is the article. And yes it is hilarious.
Because if they didn't, they wouldn't be gov'ts.
The problem is not that Uber runs the way it does, the problem is that the law is set up against cab companies the way it is. Cab companies shouldn't be fighting Uber, they should be fighting the crippling costs and regulations that are ruining their industry.
I have been using Uber for about a year now and not once, not one single time have I had any issues with billing, crazy drivers, smelly cars, feeling safe, etc...Every time the drivers are extremely nice, the cars are extremely nice and its just a far better customer service experience than a normal cab. "Banned" or not, I won't be going back.
the problem is that the law is set up against cab companies the way it is.
Against? Hell, the incumbents love these regs. They create a government-protected oligopoly.
Why cheer for tax-evading Uber oligarchy?
They already have $44 billions off our regulated municipal revenue.
That's YOUR money. Gone to oligarch offshore accounts.
D-
Really, you aren't even trying.
Why cheer for a government-protected oligopoly?
Why cheer for a government-protected oligopoly?
When it protects your own fully armed and operational rent-seeking enterprise?
Actually, that's the money of Uber's customers. And it didn't vanish into the ether. It was converted into a ride between the customers' location and their destination. At which point it became Uber's money.
This is pretty basic stuff, like basic in the sense that you're supposed to just pick it up by living, you don't even need to be taught it. Well, the general you. You specifically obviously do need to be taught how this whole "Money can be exchanged for good's and services" things works.
hey man there's a reason hes a cartel driver, he couldn't master anything more complex in life than the operation of a car
I cheer for the destruction if cab companies, and the misery their protectionist corruption has brought.
And why should it matter to me where the money goes? Even if Uber were the "oligarch offshore accounts" you claim they are, they still provide a better service than taxis.
Isn't it amazing how companies that want to make money attempt to offer an affordable service or product and make you feel happy about purchasing their service or product?
How is x7 times the regulated fare affordable ?
Again don't use it, hire a cab. Of course if you are talking about surge pricing you probably couldn't have got a regular cab at any price.
Then don't offer your criminal law-breaking services and don't compete unlawfully with other business that operate legally by following laws.
I'm sorry, please explain to me why these laws are fair and good. Because they limit choice to consumer? Because they artificial raise prices to the consumer? Because they underserve the consumer? Who are you shilling for? Big business or big government because it certainly isn't the little guy (hint the consumer, drivers).
Beekuuz Top! Men! derpalicious herpy derp.
It's because he's seeing his business take a big hit. How else would he have so much time to drone on about Uber?
Unlike you, I'm not being paid by corporate monstrosity named Uber.
Now get back to your Uber office desk and do something useful... track ex-boyfriend or something.
Unlike you, I'm not being paid by corporate monstrosity named Uber.
Cute. I've never even used Uber. If I travel, I tend to rent a car because I've never had a good experience from a cabbie, and I hate having to wait 45 minutes for them to schlep themselves over to me.
I thought about using Uber once, when I didn't feel particularly great about walking across downtown Memphis after dark with my wife, but there wasn't a car close enough. We ended up walking and saving $20. yay me!
Unlike you, I'm not being paid by corporate monstrosity named Uber.
Now get back to your Uber office desk and do something useful... track ex-boyfriend or something.
So no response to the validity of the laws or your support of big business/government partnership over regular people?
I don't know what Putin's voice is like, but I'm picturing it now.
No, instead you appear to be a rude, inefficient, slow local taxi operator. Thanks, but I'll rather give my money to an efficient, polite, and fast corporate monstrosity.
How would you feel if you had just bought your very own $100K medallion, after saving for years for that day, and some upstart Uber driver could drive passengers without a medallion?
I actually sympathize with Big Mike. He made a very bad investment.
Well, he's going to make up for it in volume. As the price comes down, he'll snap them up, and soon have all the taxi medallions to himself!
Then when sanity returns and Uber is DESTROYED, he'll be in the pink, and I don't mean those pink Lyft lips!
Poor retard didn't stand a chance.
badly. However, the point remains.
Lol, you drive a cab, don't you? How's that working out for you and your 12 kids? Fuck off, asshole.
Some do.
Others take the crony route, and get their pet legislators and regulators to pass laws and rules that keep them from having to do so, by insulating them from competition.
Why do that when you can have your friends in the legislature turn your competition into criminals?
Then you don't need to make your customers happy about purchasing your product! They have no choice but to give you their money or go without!
Allow a person not to pay my taxes - see how happy he will be.
Does it make it fair for the rest of suckers paying it? No.
Play by the same rules, or cease your operations altogether.
That's not my opinion. This is opinion stated by multiple courts worldwide.
An app is not en excuse to break-laws and evade payments.
I applaud anyone who avoids taxes.
The problem is the rules, not Uber.
You applaud crime and lawlessness.
I don't.
This is not Somalia. And you are not a pirate.
You don't like laws - lobby to change them, don't break them and look up the deceitful excuses.
THERE IT IS!!!

You mean I should hire 161 lobbyists? Oh wait that was evil early and now it is the right thing to do. It must be confusing to be you with lack of principles and all.
To be fair, he is reading off a script. Principles don't come into play.
But you are.

ATTENTION! What's that stench? Must be Uber paid social media trolls joining the discussion to conceal facts and spread lies about Uber criminal enterprise. Uber already admitted to have hired 161 lobbyists in DC alone(!) and scores of social media posters to defend its massive criminal tax-evading unethical fraud operation. Read the comments they post among themselves praising Uber with a grain of salt - they are paid to promote this lawlessness and to divert any constructive discussion to nonsensical name-calling.
Just out of curiosity, how many stupid pills did you take this morning?
Because it looks to me like you overdosed.
Uber paid social media trolls
I don't see anybody but the regulars here.
Except, speaking of paid social media trolls, you.
How does one get a job like that?
Being a libertarian should be a paid position.

Shorter BigMike:
Hooray for crony capitalism and regulatory capture!
As if $44 billion dollar Uber mega-corporation with hundreds of admitted lobbyists is any better. Please.
Well, the $44B says they're doing something right. Profits mean you are pleasing customers or they wouldn't be choosing you. Well, unless those profits are result of using government to regulate your competition out of business, giving the customers no choice. Which is what brick-and-mortar taxi companies do.
As far as the lobbyists go, as I see it they're playing defense. That's just the way it is. If you don't have lobbyists, the government will crush you.
Yes, it's a lot better, because they are offering something that I want to choose voluntarily. That's why they are making so much money.
Licensed taxicabs suck and are dangerous, and the only time I take them anymore is if I have absolutely no other choice.
Four Things About Uber You Wish You Never Knew:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT8Kv7Et0OI
No one cares.
Here's the only thing about Uber I care about:
Will an Uber driver pick me up and deliver me per the terms posted on my phone when I order the ride?
I really don't care about anything else.
I have a video too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbIR51_J_qY
I have never had problems taking an Uber. I have had numerous problems taking licensed cabs, from being dropped in the wrong place, attempted fraud, absolutely reckless driving, and my cab driver getting out of the cab and starting a fist fight with another cab driver.
But whichever is worse, why shouldn't I be able to make my own decision which transportation option I consider safer? Why do you want to force me to use a mode of transportation (licensed taxi cabs) that I consider overpriced and dangerous?
Anyone who's ever tried to get a cab to take you from Manhattan to Brooklyn at 12:00 on a Saturday night knows the value of Uber. Anyone who's ever tried to catch a cab to take you anywhere at a 6:00 rush hour knows the value of Uber. Those are the times when you'll come to realize all that protection that regulation is supposed to give the consumer is just so much smoke and mirrors.
The medallion cabs are supposed to be required to take you anywhere in the city limits. Yeah, lots of luck with that. Who are you gonna call? The police? Oh, I got it, you'll notify the Taxi and Limousine Commission. Ha ha. Just joking.
Uber on the other hand? They're there in five minutes and happy to have your business.
Where'd BigMike go? I was looking forward to an afternoon of herpy derpy megalicious derptastictude entertainment this afternoon!
I bet he got a fare.
"Government always wins"? I don't expect anyone to bat 1.0 but that is a big miss by Stossel. If it were remotely true Uber would never have gotten off the ground. For that matter neither would the drug trade. They can just offer rides illegally where they are 'banned'.
Give it time, Cyto. Give it time.
I intend to. Ride sharing's victory is inevitable. Technology and markets are more powerful than governments.

But the driver has to be actually caught cheating to be fired, right?
Because anyone online can give a business one star for the most random reasons. Half of Yelp reviews is bitching and moaning about isolated incidents.
Yelp ratings usually means nothing.
No. If you get a few one stars, you're out. Uber wouldn't even have to cease using you as a driver because you simply wouldn't get any drivers.
That's why Uber drivers in my experience are extremely polite, have clean cars, and often offer extras like water and candy.
On the other hand, if Uber kicked out too many drivers without cause, they'd go out of business.
See, the free market keeps businesses in line and makes sure they treat their customers well. And that is precisely what government regulators are trying to stop: government regulators are in the pockets of businesses and try to shield them from competition.
This is dumb, but I guess those coming up with solutions to regulated cabs ripping people off are, too.
With the ubiquitousness of GPS, why couldn't the meter in a cab be set up to make note of the location, when the fare starts, and when the fare ends and compare that with the cost charged? A record kept on the meter for later downloading and review by the regulating agency.
P.S. I have never used Uber, but what is to stop an Uber driver from doing the same thing, and how does Uber reconcile the inability of the poor, who can't use the internet to hail a cab, to get to where they want to go? Isn't everything supposed to be done so that the lowest common denominator is the standard?
That's effectively what Uber does. In addition, they provide easier payment, driver reviews, and pricing that ensures more availability during peak hours.

- Do you understand? - No.
We do not expect you to understand.
However, we want you to understand the importance of our commission.
That is why we insist that each claimant answer a few questions, so that we may, in time, better understand the physiognomy of human evil.
The process is fair and impartial.
All are treated equally."
Uber is a system of massive surveillance. To call an Uber car requires a portable tracking and surveillance device (otherwise known as a cell phone), and paying for one requires identifying yourself.
For my freedom's sake, I won't do either of those, so I will never be a customer of Uber. I hope I can always hail a real taxi on the street and pay for my ride with cash. See stallman.org/uber.html.
If we don't want a society in which companies collect dossiers about each person, dossiers which are of course available to the state to crus dissent and imprison journalists' sources, we must recognize the
hook inside bait like Uber. We must require digital systems not to collect data about people's activities.

Well, yes: the tracking and surveillance in this case is both voluntary and desired.
You're free to do whatever you want. But don't impose your choices on me by supporting the taxi cartel.
After travis cartel new fare prices
We the drivers can not quit
We cant give up
We can not be too shabby or selfish
We started this crab; now we got continuing supporting travis and the pseudo riders scum, now
Whats going to happen with them?accostumed to pay nanopeanuts for taxi we can not let them down

How taxi companies don't like competition from ride-sharing services like Uber.
If you want to operate a taxicab business then follow same rules and regulations that existing taxicab businesses follow.
With easy billions in its pockets, Uber can afford all and any compliance.
Reason Uber is getting banned worldwide is because it is a criminal tax-evading enterprise that prefers to complete unfairly unlawfully and unethically while basing its whole operation on the shaky foundation of lies and deception.
Not for lack of desire though...
A billion times this. Don't like it? Don't use it. But others cabs blah blah. Fucking cartels and barriers to entry need to die for a real free market to exist.
Holding a gun to the head of driver can get you to your destination free of charge.
Hey Mikey, do you like movies about gladiators?
There is no worse act than a failure to give the king his due.
If you want to operate a taxicab business then follow same rules and regulations that existing taxicab businesses follow.
Oh, you mean the rules and regs that say you have to have a license, and we aren't issuing any more?
Explain to me how I can operate a taxi business under the rules requiring a license when I can't get a license?
Why should $44 billion dollars
Uber corporation be excluded from all those requirements and burdens at the expense of thousands of local small transportation businesses?
Because customers want it that way, perhaps?
And, as with so many established business models, we are expected to follow the accepted modelbecause it is the accepted model. Why? Why automatically accept that the State has the right and authority to regulate something?
Becuase regulation works? Well, that is thepoint Stossel is addressing. At least in Vegas, the existing regulations do NOT work.
Justifying a regulatory structure by saying a regulatory structure exists, and the people questioning it are scofflaws is a circular argument.
I admit to being a little leary of of Uber and similar systems. But yiur argument is bushwa.
"...criminal tax-evading enterprise that prefers to complete unfairly unlawfully and unethically while basing its whole operation on the shaky foundation of lies and deception."
You just described every government since dirt.
Thanks for playing - you're not smart enough to ever win, but thanks for playing anyway.
What FM said.
Calling local businesses a cartel while ignoring multi-0national multi-billion dollars Uber is absurd.
What customers? Uber office employees I assume.
Explain to me how I can operate a taxi business under the rules requiring a license when I can't get a license?
Convince Top. Men. that you need one. If you can't convince them, then you don't need one. They know best.
Because customers want it that way, perhaps?
Customers don't know what they want. Only Top. Men. can possibly know that. They know best.
Duh!
Assuming your destination was "Jail."
What customers?
I was thinking of every single person who ever used to Uber for a ride.
Sometimes, even making a conscious decision to Uber rather than taxi.
Sure... the legality of your operation and your whole business model is questionable and shady.
Banned already in many countries.
Not because they hate technology.
There are hundreds of law-abiding apps.
Not because they hate technology.
Banned because they're squeezing in on a protected industry's turf. Protected because, as Uber has shown, their business model is antiquated, and the only reason they are still in business is because of government barriers to competition.
Questionable and shady = disrupting my cartel
'Banned in many countries'? Like letting homos breathe? That isn't much of an example. Try harder.
The fact is that in many municipal locations, regulations have created a medallion system that is controlled by and for the sole benefit of big cab companies which you repeatedly exalt.
In many of the aforementioned locations, one cannot even acquire a medallion, as they are in finite quantity, and held exclusively by the entrenched cab companies.
There is no complying. As cab licensing is comply unavailable. Stossel did a segment on it for his Fox Busimess show. Check it out.
"Law-abiding apps."
That must be a second cousin to "law-abiding guns."
I doubt it. Uber has been a target of so many anti-capitalist / anti-tech /pro-union blogs that there is a real frenzy about it among the low information types. Uber is the new Koch.
Do you know what a cartel is? Hint: it's not any business that is rich and that you don't like.
Psst...
'Monopoly' is more than a board game.
Using government to create artificial barriers to market entry. All so you can have a job protected that requires nothing more than a car, a license and insurance.
No, it is correct: local taxi cabs are a cartel, Uber isn't.
