Via the Washington Post's Aaron Blake, here's a list of Republicans who voted against John Boehner as Speaker of the House in the biggest defection from a sitting Speaker in a century. The name to the right is the person named by the insurrectionary as preferred speaker.
Rep. Justin Amash (Mich.)—Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) Rep. Brian Babin (Tex.)—"present" Rep. Rod Blum (Iowa) – Rep. Dan Webster (R-Fla.) Rep. Dave Brat (Va.) – Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) Rep. Jim Bridenstine (Okla.) – Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) Rep. Curt Clawson (Fla.) – Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) Rep. Scott DesJarlais (Tenn.)–Jordan Duncan – Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) Rep. Scott Garrett (N.J.) – Webster Rep. Chris Gibson (N.Y.) – House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)
Rep. Paul Gosar (Ariz.) – Webster Gohmert – Gohmert Rep. Tim Huelskamp (Kan.) – Webster Rep. Walter Jones (N.C.) – Webster Rep. Steve King–Webster Rep. Tom Massie (Ky.) – Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) Rep. Mark Meadows (N.C.) – Webster Rep. Rich Nugent (Fla.) – Webster Rep. Gary Palmer (Ala.)— Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) Rep. Bill Posey (Fla.)—Webster Rep. Scott Rigell (Va.)—Webster Rep. Marlin Stutzman (Ind.)—Webster Rep. Randy Weber (Tex.)—Gohmert Webster—Webster Yoho—Yoho
Earlier today, Matt Welch linked to Thomas Massie of Kentucky's appearance last night on The Independents. The MIT grad and successful businessman explained that he was pushing back not so much against Boehner's mushy ideology as he was against his awful administration of the House. Boehner, says Massie, forces votes on unread legislation, screws up negotiations, hold secret votes, and the like. That's no way to run a deliberative body, for sure, and hopefully this historically high number of defections will get Boehner to at the very least start running his show professionally.
I'll admit to not knowing anything about Dan Webster, the Florida Republican who garnered the most votes other than Boehner. The site On the Issues pegs him as a "populist-leaning conservative," who "strongly opposes" abortion, citizenship for illegals, and gay marriage. He favors school choice, gun rights, and keeping god in the public sphere. He is "neutral" on pot legalization, free trade, and other issues. His own website foregrounds his commitment to balanced budgets and cutting spending, though it's short on specifics.
Fun Fact: The Speaker of the House does NOT have to be a member of Congress (but has always been a member of the House). If you had known that earlier, who would you have pushed for the job?

There was some crap on my DNA test results about me being XX% "Irish (includes parts of Scotland and Wales)" which is absolute rubbish. I was born in the USA and that makes me 100% native American. Nevertheless, as a life-long sufferer of sweaty balls syndrome I find the kilt concept intriguing.
I like haggis, ale and whisky and have fought alongside the Royal Scots Borderers and the Scots Dragoon Guards...does that count (even if I do not have a kilt)?
I can never complete tests like that because either my answer isn't one of the options or too many of the questions are based on "have you stopped beating your wife yet?" style assumptions that I'm not willing to accept and thus am I unable to answer at all.
A typical example would be a question like "Should government regulations be more concerned about the interests of business owners or of the general public?" which only makes sense if you begin from an assumption these are two distinct groups, each of whom can be boiled down to a single set of interests, and that these two sets of interests are necessarily in conflict.
my best friend's mother-in-law makes $88 an hour on the laptop . She has been without a job for ten months but last month her check was $12564 just working on the laptop for a few hours. check out here.........

Hi, my brother's former roommate's cousin's sister's best friend's third cousin once removed's sister makes $132 an hour on the laptop. She was without a job for 12 months but last month her check was $8645 just working for a few hours. Check it out here: http://www.GetPaidToSpamForOtherSuckers.com
I'd love to know what Boehner's true level of support within the republican caucus is. I suspect it's probably considerably lower than what we saw in the rigged show-pony full House vote today.
Fun Fact: The Speaker of the House does NOT have to be a member of Congress (but has always been a member of the House). If you had known that earlier, who would you have pushed for the job?
Who do you think you are, Suderman?

So I guess Reason will have to love Boehner by default now?
Side note: according to VoteMatch Jimmy Carter should be my favorite past president (48% matching opinions; 80% on social issues, 15% on economic), followed by GWB (43% overall, 15% social, 70% economic). I feel like I need a very hot shower with a steel brush.
I don't really understand their breakdown, though, as they have CATO as "strongly opposed" to the statement "Comfortable with same sex marriage". It's bizarre. My "political pundit" rankings go: Ayn Rand, Rush Limbaugh, Robert Reich, Noam Chomsky, Ariana Huffington, Milton Friedman, CATO institute. WTF? But that mainly seems to be the case because Friedman and CATO are listed as neutral on most issues.
I got right leaning libertarian, which I would have to guess is attributable to the middle of the road answer on abortion. Because we all know that every libertarian absolutely supports abortion in every case, derp....
Apparently my answers for 2014, when I ran for assembly, didn't get in, so I "failed the test". Some technical problem, I guess, because I remember spending some time submitting them.
You have to actually check your answers because they will tell you that you marked the exact opposite answer of what you actually marked. There's something wrong with the test.
That's a boring fun fact. A better one is that there is no constitutional requirement that a Supreme Court justice be: American, a judge, a lawyer, alive, human, animal, or even matter. In fact, legally speaking, if Atticus Finch were nominated and confirmed, his fictional self would be a legal justice.
Look, my answer for my preferred speaker of the house is the same as my answer at this point in time for any significant leadership position requiring gravitas, depth of thought, and personal magnetism, and that is of course The Iron Sheik.
I would like to compare this to the 60 votes against the cromnibus bill. How many of those 60 Republicans had the guts to vote against Boehner? All they needed was half of them and Boehner would have had a hard time.
Based on that, I honestly believe it's time for a 3rd Party. Between John Thune hoisting the surrender flag on immigration and the inept Boehner, the party isn't Republican any more it's the Whigs.
I believe that the speaker of the house is third in line in the advent of the deaths of the president and vice president. If this is true it seems that we could have a president that was not a member of congress or the senate or even an elected representative. Someone please tell me i am wrong and why.
I make up to $90 an hour working from my home. My story is that I quit working at Walmart to work online and with a little effort I easily bring in around $40h to $86h Someone was good tome by sharing this link with me, so now i am hoping i could help someone else out there by sharing this link... Try it, you
Webster looks eerily similar to Nanny from Count Duckula.
http://statici.behindthevoicea....._24462.jpg
Some of us actually remember what Nanny looked like, Duckyboos.
Some of us have never heard of it before.
I encourage everyone here to take the political compass test to see just which among you is a true Scotsman.
Where is it?
(Though I am not some scot)
See below. Apparently my ideal president is the hellspawn of Carter and GWB.
Apparently, I wear a f?ileadh m?r.

many of my ancestors are from north east England, so I'm sure that DNA test will give me a fair amount of Viking ancestry further back
You and your rape culture
I like haggis, ale and whisky and have fought alongside the Royal Scots Borderers and the Scots Dragoon Guards...does that count (even if I do not have a kilt)?
Honorary. F?ilte. [Pulls out whisky bottle and two glasses]
Ooo! Nice!
I can never complete tests like that because either my answer isn't one of the options or too many of the questions are based on "have you stopped beating your wife yet?" style assumptions that I'm not willing to accept and thus am I unable to answer at all.
YOU WILL SUPPORT ABORTION ALL THE TIME OR OPPOSE IT ALL THE TIME, THERE ARE NO OTHER ANSWERS
A typical example would be a question like "Should government regulations be more concerned about the interests of business owners or of the general public?" which only makes sense if you begin from an assumption these are two distinct groups, each of whom can be boiled down to a single set of interests, and that these two sets of interests are necessarily in conflict.
Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others.
I'm Scots-Irish, but really I'm mostly German.
Sl?inte/Prost
If you had known that earlier, who would you have pushed for the job?
I did know that earlier, and I was pushing heavily for Miley Cyrus or in lieu of that Daryl from The Walking Dead.
Idris Elba
-no wait, he's a limey.
Sean Connery.
If we're nominating ferners, I'd go with Christoph Waltz.
Or Daniel Day-Lewis, but only in character as Bill The Butcher.
SUCK IT TREBEK!
I'll teke the penis mightier for $100!
The Rapists for $200?
Anal bum cover?

With financial skills like that, your best friend's mother-in-law could be Speaker of the US House of Representatives!
Server not found. And here I was hoping to get rich quick.
Does it hurt to have sex on a laptop?
The Speaker of the House does NOT have to be a member of Congress
Then I would have asked my congressman to vote for Webster, the actor.
Is every article going to have that stupid graph for every politician?
I hope so. Saves a lot of time.
I pushed for my best friend's mother-in-law. At least she knows how to make a buck.
Why shouldn't we just go right for anonybot itself?!
Well, he does have marketing skills...
The anonbot has certain pedofiliac tendencies and is a known cop hater...
I'd love to know what Boehner's true level of support within the republican caucus is. I suspect it's probably considerably lower than what we saw in the rigged show-pony full House vote today.
True level of support will never be revealed when Boehner controls the walking around money and committee positions.
Why not a secret ballot?
They asked Boehner. He said no.
Note : As far as I know, I just made that up. But it's the thought that counts.
A Secret-Ballot would hold too many surprises.

Nonsense, just get the Multihate upgrade and you don't have to love anyone by default.
Nice.

Welp, I used to like you.
/hisses, points finger

Check your matches with Supreme Court Justices and be depressed
I got Rehnquist followed by Kennedy. Given the stock, I'd say that isn't so awful.
Highest was Clarence Thomas at 40%, Stevens at 10% was lowest.
I got Reich in there as well. The Rand match result was based on 2 or 3 questions out of the whole bunch which pretty idiotic.
I got a 48% match as well (25% social, 70% economic), except mine was with...
DUH duh DUH!
Dick Cheney
(JFK and I have nothing in common apparently)
Mother of God I got Dick Cheney (at a 43% match). I can't believe I gave up alcohol for this month.
It did peg me as a "hard core libertarian" though. Hm.
I got right leaning libertarian, which I would have to guess is attributable to the middle of the road answer on abortion. Because we all know that every libertarian absolutely supports abortion in every case, derp....
Oh, I didn't answer the God in the public sphere question because I thought it was stupid.
So tweaking that answer doesn't change much. Rand Paul is my preferred candidate.
I got "right leaning libertarian" (snicker) and Cheney was first with 45% followed by GHWB, Dubya and Tricky Dick all tied with 40%.
Of the 2016 candidates, only Rand got above 50% for me. And I'm "Hard core libertarian."
Ted Cruz topped mine at 58%, followed by Rand Paul at 55%, then Rob Portman at 45%.
Biden, Clinton, and Schweitzer were tied for the bottom at 15%.
Based on the above score, you are a Libertarian-Leaning Conservative.
About right I would say.
Though I have to say, looking at the current Prez field results, I find it interesting that I score higher with Obama than Chris Christie.
Technically speaking, if you follow mainstream media and ignore most of what he says, his resume looks great!
Didn't work.
You crashed their SQL server!
From Project Vote Smart, here are my results as a candidate in 2010 ? http://votesmart.org/candidate.....KxO4jp0ypo

sounds like the voting machine whenever someone votes Republican
I scored highest with Paul and Hillary was my bottom candidate. Libertarian with a close Tea Party second and Democrat at the bottom.
I am okay being more affiliated with the Green Party then the Democrats because I hate the idea of anyone mistaking me for a progressive.
The Greens are Communists. So fair enough.

So AIs?
How would Skynet decide on Abortion or 2nd amendment cases?
Yes abortion, no 2nd Amendment. Remember, the extinction of humanity is the end goal!!!!!
Why did Reason call Boehner yesterday the House Majority? Did the Pod People get to them?
http://reason.com/blog/2015/01.....-massie-on
House Majority Leader John Boehner
Oh Matt Welch...
Was he not technically majority leader from the time the 114th Congress convened until he was elected Speaker?
Look, my answer for my preferred speaker of the house is the same as my answer at this point in time for any significant leadership position requiring gravitas, depth of thought, and personal magnetism, and that is of course The Iron Sheik.
See? The statesman for our times.
How about the Iron Sheik vs Sergeant Slaughter for old times sake. Winner gets to be speaker of the house.
Next week, Ric Flair vs Dusty Rhodes in a cage match. Winner is next Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Nature Boy wins every time, because hair
Rowdy Roddy Piper for Secretary of State
Yeah but I'm voting Rowdy Roddy Piper for President
What, no love for President Camacho?
What is more important? Today's vote or Anchorman 2?
I see my brand new representative (Rod Blum -- Iowa) voted against Boehner. It's a good start.
You're not playing this right, Nick. It goes:
You know who else could have been Speaker of the House?
Brando?
No - he coulda been a contender.
At first I read that as Brawndo. It's got electrolytes!
John Sherman?
Mine host Th?nardier?
Bose?
Winner.
Rep. Paul Gosar (Ariz.) ? Webster
Gohmert ? Gohmert
Paul Gosar the Gosarian? Many a slor should be afraid.
Sorry I forgot the italics Tonio.
/flogs self
LOL. Point taken.
Bus srsly, that quote is short enough and obvious enough to not need italics.
Webster is my congressman. If he became speaker I would maybe start paying attention to him. Prolly not though.
Were any of the votes against Boehner from incoming freshmen?
yes. Rod Blum Iowa
Well, at least he won't have much to do for the next year
yes. Rod Blum Iowa
If you had known that earlier, who would you have pushed for the job?
Well, I'm a Cthulu man, myself. I say, "Why go with the lesser evil?".
'Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu Capitol Hill wgah'nagl fhtagn
A non-member Speaker?
To curry favor with the WH, they could always elect Fidel.

The succession after VP was added much later.
hopefully this historically high number of defections will get Boehner to at the very least start running his show professionally.
Perfect, I can stop visiting the Onion and Duffel Blog because Reason is now doing satire/comedy.
"...hopefully this historically high number of defections will get Boehner to at the very least start running his show professionally."
Ummm, your talking about politicians here, remember that.
