Doonesbury Somehow Unaware That the UVA Gang Rape Story Was Debunked Weeks Ago

There's phoning it in, and then there's Doonesbury. The cartoon strip, which won a Pulitzer Prize for its incisive social commentary back in the Stone Ages (1975, to be precise), now seems to be paying very little attention to breaking news—or even last month's breaking news. Consider creator Garry Trudeau's latest attempt at relevancy, which was published just in time to make the last-minute journalism "epic fails" lists of 2014 (a parlance the old-fashioned Trudeau is probably unfamiliar with).
Here is the cartoon, which depicts a character expressing her outrage that the University of Virginia would allow a student to be gang-raped. "Who is this frat boy monster… Who tells his victim that he 'had a great time'?"
If Trudeau had read the news recently—or any time in the last month—he would know that this "frat boy monster" doesn't even exist. Numerous reporters who (unlike Rolling Stone) believe in interviewing multiple sources, verifying facts, and scrutinizing incredible accounts have debunked virtually every aspect of the UVA gang-rape allegations. Most recently, friends of the alleged victim, Jackie, have come forward to present a highly plausible alternative explanation for her claims. They also demonstrated that Jackie went to great lengths to catfish them into believing she had a relationship with an older student who later raped her, even though that person does not exist and text messages allegedly sent by him were actually fake—and, in all likelihood, sent by Jackie herself.
Given that The Washington Post has proved the UVA rape story to be false, it's grossly irresponsible to craft a cartoon that uncritically recounts debunked details. I understand that Trudeau may have drawn it before Rolling Stone's credibility went to hell, but that was a long time ago. I first aired my doubts on December 1st, and numerous other outlets followed suit. Within a few days, The Washington Post dug up enough contradictory evidence to render much of the story false. But it seems Trudeau was too busy polishing his Pulitzer to bother fixing a clearly misleading and outdated cartoon. Hey, it's the holidays, I suppose.
The Washington Free Beacon's Sonny Bunch makes a similar point:
Anyway, hopefully Garry Trudeau is embarrassed. I'd add to his embarrassment by sending him a piece of snail mail, but who knows how long it will take to get there. By the time he receives it, he'll probably have penned a horribly out of date comic strip about the evils of Duke lacrosse or the travails of a poor young woman named Tawana Brawley.
Read Jesse Walker's excellent account of the rise and fall of Doonesbury—which has grown less skeptical of authority and less funny over the years—here.

IIRC, in an interview with Charles Schultz, he mentioned that there was a six week lead time from when he submitted his cartoons to when they were published. It may be that this went in the pipeline before it all went off the rails, and there was no way for him to get it changed.
I would think that for Trudeau, this might be shorter, especially given the topicality he frequently employs. But even then, they might have some experience with yanking a strip that would be a real clank when events turn initial reportage upside-down.
Charles Shultz died in February of 2000. I suspect that the ability to send/edit cartoons to a newspaper has progressed since then.
That, and the fact that most papers now treat Doonsbury to special treatment, printing it on the editorial page, rather than with the other cartoons.
Bottom line is that there is no excuse.
No, from what I understand from reading Stephen Pastis's books, newspapr comics still have the same month plus long lead time between production and publishing.
And Sunday strips take the longest,
Part of that is to have a backlog in case the author gets sick, or something. When I worked at a newspaper, back in the day, it was fun to read the comics ahead of their publication dates.
At least of of 2007, he definitely still had a 6-week lead time for the Sunday strips; see http://itre.cis.upenn.edu/~myl.....04234.html . With increased use of outsourcing to print special Sunday sections like the comics, I expect if anything that would have increased since then.
A six week lead time makes it worse that he made this strip. I guess when you just know the creeps are guilty, exonerating evidence is impossible to imagine. RS fucked up what happened in past. Trudeau fucked up what he didn't/couldn't know would happen in the future.
Swiss Servator, Charles Shultz died in February of 2000. I suspect that the ability to send/edit cartoons to a newspaper has progressed since then.
Oh, bull puckey! Anyone who says it's impossible for one or ALL newspapers to swap out a 'newer' strip for one submitted a month or two earlier has got to be either kidding or trying to cover up a Major Shortcoming in the publishing Business Process which a smart high-schooler would be able to fix.
It's the description of a Process Failure that should be so embarrassing as to have been 'fixed' at least a decade ago!
I call BS on such 'excuses!'

They backed away from the one woman's story, but not the overall reporting.
We think we kid, but these people are actually retarded. They are not trolling. They really are this stupid and incapable of rational thought.
Indeed. The comments are delightful.
Yeah, I got about 10 comments deep on that story and ran away because of the overwhelming stupidity of their readers.
They don't care if Rolling Stone published a bullshit article...they just care that Rolling Stone published something that validated their belief system.
I wouldn't say they're stupid. They're willfully ignorant. That's far worse in my opinion. A stupid person may be dealing the hand nature dealt them.
Willful ignorance is the same thing as stupidity. Choosing not to know something because it conflicts with your beliefs is choosing to be dumb.
At some point you cross the border between dumb and evil. Ignoring truth in the furtherance of a discredited political agenda is not just dumb because it is based on a will to power. Lying, rationalizing, and ignoring the truth in order to control other people is evil in my book.
The truth is what serves The Cause.

The comments section of the link did not disappoint.
To be honest, I'm not entirely convinced that Doonesbury here is necessarily wrong; the strip seems so amorphous it's hard to tell what his point is, overall. Yes, about Rolling Stone selling magazines or clickbaitery, but is that necessarily tied to the story being right, especially in light of the non-denial denials they issued subsequent to the original story? Maybe Trudeau needs to pack it in, but I don't see in this strip conclusive evidence.
If he hadn't gotten preachy at the end, the whole thing could just be taken as an attempt at irony.
I saw it as some kind of perverse statement about white male obsolescence.
If we aren't a punchline we are nothing. That is what SJW has diminishes our brand to.
I have a brand? Cool. How do I use this brand?
Trudeau has been insufferably preachy for decades. I'm pretty sure that the last time I laughed at one of his strips was when I was a bleeding heart liberal in college during the 1970s.
What I see as more conclusive evidence of Trudeau needing to pack it in is the almost complete absence of any criticism of Obama.
Doonesbury had nothing to say about the NSA scandal, Healthcare.gov's implosion, Fast and Furious, Obama's constitutional overreaches, or pretty much anything else he did. He hasn't even created an unflattering icon for Obama, which he's done for pretty much ever other President since Reagan. Obama is untouchable to Trudeau...he's gone on record talking about how he doesn't see flaws in him.
When a political cartoonist gets to the point where he becomes a true believer in a politician, particularly one as inept and corrupt as Obama, it's time to pack it in.
Trudeau isn't a political cartoonist. He may THINK he is, but what he is is a comic strip artist with a sad tendency to preach and a bad case of taking himself frightfully seriously.
He WAS funny, once. Back before the hiatus. Back before Reagan got elected President and whole swaths of the Left, Trudeau included, lost their tiny minds.
Some of his early strips are STILL absolutely classic. Joanie Caucus explaining why she left her husband "He put his arm around me, got this big stupid grin on his face, and said 'My, wife; I think I'll keep her' (next panel) "I broke his nose"
(the 'I think I'll keep her' line was from a REALLY offensive commercial, BTW)
For a long time, I have been calling the tendency of cartoonists to start taking themselves seriously "Garry Trudeau Disease".
It's commoner than you might think.
Agreed, although I still think the BD storylines from Iraq were great work. And that was pretty much the last good work I ever saw in the strip.
notto mention the unsightly rash and the flatulence...

No, I think it's useful to have the hypocrisy of the institutional left on display for all to see. Sure, Trudeau is irrelevant (and has been for decades), but they don't see that.
100% THIS.
I mean, we all KNOW he's a tedious, unfunny boomer hack cartoonist, but reading his strip over the past 4 years, it's like he lives in an alternate reality where the US has no sitting president. He drags out some shitty culture reference "kids and their interwebz!" or tries to make mountains out of GOP molehills.
Meanwhile, his sainted leader performs one awful, inept fuckup after another.
Nope. Nothing comedic there, folks!
When Obamacare imploded, the strip he ran accused conservatives and libertarian of being raciats by implying that they supported the South's ideology in the civil war.
That was when I decided I was done with Doonesbury.
The person of Barack Obama is himself a tremendous step forward for this country, almost its greatest step forward ever. When you criticize him, it's like criticizing the Emancipation Proclamation for a punctuation error!
You, sir, are a monster, how dare you, how dare you. After all he's done for us, for you. Beg for forgiveness you racist scum!
The 6-week lag problem wouldn't be critical if he revisited evolving stories. There might well be good material in the reaction of the characters to the collapse of the Rolling Stone story. Given how thin this particular strip is, though -- neither dark humor nor insight provided on the issue, just a rote expression of "outrage" dragged out over eight(!) Sunday panels -- and given (as UCrawford's comment points out) how much of a bland lefty rubber stamp the overall strip has become, I doubt Trudeau will be revisiting it. This strip may not be conclusive evidence of his irrelevance, but it's part of a substantial case.
True, that! Doonesbury lives on the op-ed page of the Raleigh News & Absorber, and readers have a shit fit that Mallard Fillmore even EXISTS on the Other Comic Pages in the rag.
Trudeau has written/drawn some classic, relevant stuff, and I have enjoyed him over the years, but like Spider Robinson after he Got Religion, I bailed on 'em both.
Nowadays, Trudeau is more like a lightning rod for creating and attracting irate Letters To -Ed from local conservatives, which is apparently one of the N&O's charters.
BFD. SS,DD.
People still read Doonesbury?
Why?
I have yet to meet anyone who's ever read the thing.
/end Nixon Election Fallacy
More like "nobody I know voted for McGovern."
I think the real answer lies in the fact that there's a sindication editor between the market and the cartoonist. If the guy at the papers decide to keep buying the strip, even if no one reads it on their way to actual humor, he's going to keep making them. A true test of popularity would be to try to survive in the webcomic market. There there is no gatekeeper whose biases can influence renumeration.
XKCD for the win!
And Cyanide and Happiness, Questionable Content and CTRL+ALT+DEL! XD
But that would sully his hands at an attempt at profit. He would much rather publish his swill and, if he gets cut, make a big fat stink about politics and free speech. Much more effective.
In the '90s there was a daily strip in the SF Chronicle. I've totally forgotten the name and artist, but it was so badly drawn and unfunny that it was bizarre to read, as if it were some sort of failed hip meta-joke about comic strips. I asked a comic artist friend of mine about it, and it turned out the artist was a friend of the editor in charge of the comics section....
let's see...'90's, SF, failed hip meta-joke...BOY friend of the editor
This artist was a woman.
I remember it was pretty popular in the eighties among a certain set of college-educated folks like my older brother. I can't believe it's still around.
Yeah, for a while it was sort of a boomer status symbol. Doonesbury was the comic strip for the smart set. The problem is that Trudeau never realized that his product had passed its shelf-life.
As an aging boomer, I would say that is about right. The 80's comic strip equivalent of watching Jon Stewart today. Social signaling.
This. At least Breathed (Bloom County) realized when he'd run out of things to say.
French Doonesbury:
"Can you believe that Jewish officer who sold his country to the Germans?"
"I think they exonerated him later."
"Well, what do you want me to do, pull the cartoon? I need to send it in a century in advance!"
But they did't hate Jews. They just hate Jewish culture, which normalizes Jews lying to, stealing from, and deceiving innocent gentiles. No, they love Jews themselves. It's toxic Jewishness, and the power of World Jewry (or as I call it, the Jewarchy) that they hate.
/sarc
Ha! Jewry XD Reminds me of a conversation a couple friends and I had a couple weeks ago where we were contemplating whether Jewish and Jewelry have a common etymology lol
Actually, the hat tip on this should be to treasured commenter C. Anacreon, who pointed out this strip on Sunday morning. I wuz robbed!
It's in the pipeline.
He will get it in 4-6 weeks.
Trudeau should have packed it in long ago. At this point, he's really not doing much more than embarrassing himself.
Hey, if some knucklehead newspapers want to pay him, let him go ahead and fleece them for all he can.
Well, yes and no. Yes, he's getting well paid. But, increasingly, it's at the price of his dignity. He's gone from being comparatively intelligent to "oh, that guy. Is he still around?"
His alleged dignity is his to sell, should he wish it, yes?
Just like an aging athlete that goes out and finds one more team to give them a contract. It may be apparent to most that they are done, but as long as they can convince one owner to make an offer.
His alleged dignity is his to sell, should he wish it, yes?
Of course. And comments on it are ours to make.
He's not really putting much effort into the comic strip anymore. Basically, he's spending all of his time working on this TV show he created for Amazon that recycles old jokes about Republicans and he only does a Sunday cartoon...the rest are re-runs of old strips.
I used to love Doonesbury, but quit reading it a few years ago. His storyline about the characters who were injured in Iraq and veterans with PTSD were incredibly good and compelling, but since Obama took office Trudeau has basically stopped doing any commentary critical of the government at all. He also doesn't seem to understand youth culture anymore, which is understandable for a man in his 60s.
So basically, he's the Howard Stern of the comics page.
I found it dated the last time I looked about 30 years ago. I think it was all the hippies.
His military characters are accurate, but I think that's because he's spent a lot of time around military personnel. He did a lot of charity work with Wounded Warrior and put in a lot of time researching the VA and military health care systems to see how personnel injured in Iraq were processed. Turned it into a really great storyline on his characters about injured soldiers, TBI, and PTSD.
The only gripe I had is that he did gloss over just how badly the VA system in the States fails troops. He completely ignored the entire VA scandal of the secret waitlists, but that's been par for the course for him regarding the Obama administration.

..."it's at the price of his dignity"...
I'd give him, oh, $0.02 for his dignity.
overly generous in my opinion...
Fake but accurate.
If anyone has missed the boat here, its Robby and the 'fact-centric' media which has failed to recognize that the Rape Culture proponents have moved on already, and are now on Phase 3 of Project: Perpetuate The Victim-Narrative, where the issue now is how 'the media has used the case of the UVA 'de-bunking' as an excuse to ABUSE AND SLANDER WOMEN WRIT LARGE IN AN UGLY AND VILE FASHION.
And yes, while 'Marcotte' is the low-hanging fruit on the tree of Absurdity, this theme is already well in swing elsewhere. The subject is now on, 'Look at all the ways our society fails rape-survivors'
not 'dwelling cruelly on just, like, you know, ONE PERSON...which is totally NOT THE POINT, Duh!?'
IOW, not only does the Rolling Stone story not even put a dent in the Rape Culture edifice... it is in fact supporting it, and making it more prominent by providing a 'story about a story' which enables the 'journalists' who feed the Rape Culture machine to spin off more and more material. If this one story failed to achieve the Right Wing's standards of 'factuality', well then, "'facts' are just a patriarchal construct that attempts to limit a diversity of perspectives"
dude....that stuff can hurt you. I think you should leave that weapons grade derp to the Derpotologist... at least tell me you are in MOPP 4 when you read that dreck.
Only old soldiers know what MOPP 4 is anymore.
I...I...I just happen to be an old (well, 48) soldier (retired).
Me 2, 49.
57.
My lawn, you should not be on it.
Me too, 50, USMC
Heh.
Cutting edge gets to be old hat pretty fast doesn't it?
Goddamn, that and a lot of other things I think of as 'today's technology' are actually outdated.
Once I noticed an adjacent land owner trying to move our property line. I went and told my grandfather that he needed to go have a look at it. He said "Well, I was just up there......uh....damn, that was twenty years ago!"
Now its happening to me.
"dude....that stuff can hurt you"
'That which does not kill me...'
...no it pretty much just hurts my brain.
That which does not kill you can still leave you crippled for life.
What you have to understand is that for women like Marcotte, the rape-culture thing is basic a video game to them. For the rest of us, outrage is reserved for actual demonstrable physical and economic harm. But Marcotte has gained so much fame from outrage that she literally cannot stop. There is nothing she wouldn't want to blame on rape-culture that she couldn't verbally twist into submission with terms like micro-aggression and patriarchical hegemony.
And there's that sophisticated writing style we love because DUH it's so clever.
"Objection! = "Duh", your honor. Counsel is dwelling on 'facts'."
Why is it that no feminist ever has the ability to write like an adult?
Quite literally none of them. Their prose consists of two types of writing:
a) Writing that attempts to be 'casual' by looking like it was written by a 15 year old. Filled with 'duhs,' 'likes,' and 'dudebros.'
b) Writing that is overloaded with words that they learned in gender studies. You can tell this sort of writing because it is absolutely impenetrable, there are no words with fewer than 3 syllables, and the feminist herself does not appear to know what she is saying.
Continuous moral outrage leaves one with very little time or mental capacity for developing skills.
while 'Marcotte' is the low-hanging fruit on the tree of Absurdity,
A beautifully turned phrase. Which I will steal to repurpose. Many thanks.
The last funny thing in Doonesbury was a strip about an Iraqi officer telling his American liaison that they couldn't take a particular insurgent alive because his relative had killed one of the Iraqi officer's relatives......in 1294 A.D. I haven't really followed it much in the last decade, just like I don't listen to the right wing Buddha and for the same reason - neither one is funny any more.
Trudeau's Iraq stuff was really good, but I think that's mainly because he spent a lot of time with veterans and soldiers, both doing research on the military and VA systems and doing charity work with veterans. His storylines about BD and the other other Iraq vets dealing with PTSD, recovery, and reintegration into society were really great work...very accurate. You could tell he put a lot of effort into understanding the issues that affect veterans.
Most of his other work, particularly political commentary, is terrible and stale because I suspect in most other aspects of his life he's just an old, insulated liberal who doesn't spend much time around anyone except other old, insulated liberals.
Trudeau's Iraq stuff was really good, but I think that's mainly because he spent a lot of time with veterans and soldiers, both doing research on the military and VA systems and doing charity work with veterans.
Agreed. Most of the Iraq strips, especially after BD was hurt, is fantastic, but as you said, the reason it's so good is because he actually spent time working like an honest-to-god journalist researching those issues and talking with veterans, who are going to have a fairly disparate range of views on a lot of subjects. His work on the subject was very thorough and empathetic and it shows.
Most of the rest of his commentary, political or social, is indicative more of his reflexive SWPL liberalism than a careful consideration of the subjects he's examining. As you point out, it shows that he doesn't spend a lot of time associating with people who don't think the same way he does.
It's ironic...B.D. is the only character in the strip who doesn't come off as idealized or a complete caricature, and he's probably the least sympathetic to Trudeau's viewpoints.
I suppose that's what irritates me about Doonesbury...B.D.'s storyline in Iraq shows what Trudeau is capable of writing, even way past his prime, but he is only interested in the low-hanging fruit, and he never goes after progressive liberals.
Truth is irrelevant to Leftists. And they know if you repeat a lie long enough the masses will eventually believe it and repeat it as fact.
Why do[es]... the military continue to cover up sexual violence
That accusation is outrageous and false. The military is much more likely to try an accusation of sexual violence, which leads to a much lower conviction rate per attempt. SJWs hang their outrage on this low conviction rate.
The truth is that the number of incidents are thought to be lower, and the total number of convictions are higher than the same population in the civilian world. Knowing the actual truth is hard, because the definition of 'sexual violence' seems to change on a daily basis and the problems with reporting these incidents.
"the definition of 'sexual violence' seems to change on a daily basis"
That is the basic problem: the SJW's will do anything to promote their story and continually redefining sexual violence to triviality is the easiest way to do that, given the pliability of the "mainstream media".
the military continue to cover up sexual violence
Yes, just read the article about it in Rolling Stone, also by Sabrina Erdely! It's an amazingly dramatic first-person account with numerous factual errors and no supporting evidence or witnesses... oh-oh....
IIRC, the Erdely military story was that a young woman went to the bar, then woke up in a drunk tank after driving plastered and too blacked out to remember anything about the bar.
She told the military that she must have been drugged and raped, then driven away from the rape still under the influence. Blood tests didn't show any evidence of drugs other than alcohol (to be fair, she had spent the night unconscious and in jail) and the rape kit didn't provide evidence of a rape.
To be fair, no one can prove that her story isn't true, but with no evidence to support it, the military discharged her for drunkenness. Which sucks if she is right, but I'm not sure what else the military was supposed to do.
This guy challenges the entire "Rape in the Military" story.
In fairness, there really was a rape problem in the military in war zones, which the military acknowledged and has since taken aggressive steps to end.
But fabricating stories about rapes that didn't happen, in order to drum up outrage, helps no one.
Garry Trudeau has never let facts get in the way of his wry look at things. Which is probably why he appeals to a certain political group. And he will continue to do so until long after his last posthumous comic strip is printed...which will be six weeks after he says he's feeling great!
Problem is, he hasn't had a "wry look at things" since sometime in the early 80's, when he was still trying to comment on the Viet Nam war.
Obviously, this comic strip is a meta-commentary on the sort of bubble headed liberal who unquestioningly swallows whatever the tale of woe media serves up, and (oblivious to any evidence to the contrary) parrots the narrative at any opportunity.
One Pulitzer, coming up.
I expect more that Trudeau was desparately hoping the debunking would be debunked and kept it in the pipeline past the point where it was each newspaper's decision whether to scrap it and not have Dooesbury strip at all yesterday.
I suspect it's more that he didn't even think about it because he's too busy working on "Alpha House", that shit TV series he made for Amazon.
Bill Watterson, Berkeley Breathed and Gary Larson were all making Trudeau look lame and dated back in the 1980s. And then they all had the good sense and grace to pack it in. Trudeau has been a hack for at least three decades.
Loved all three of those 'strippers'. Nowadays, I'm pretty much down to Darby Conley.
Same here. I like Dilbert too, although it's not as good as it used to be.
I'm partial to Wiley Miller's Non Sequitur.

Growing up I always thought of Doonesbury as an unfunny version of Bloom County.
Funny enough, I was only introduced to "Bloom County" when my paper ran it as a replacement for "Doonesbury" when Trudeau took his first long hiatus.

I remember reading Doonesbury regularly, as I read all of the newspaper comics, but I don't remember Doonesbury ever being funny.
I learned at a young age to just skip it.
I didn't even know it was supposed to be funny until my late teens.
Doonsebury isn't the sort of humor intended to make you laugh, its the sort of humor intended to make you smirk.
Yeah, but the intent is for the audience to smirk at someone whose name isn't at the bottom of the strip.
Some of the comments here remind me of a video I watched this morning called "Feminism: Socialism in Panties" by Karen Straughan.

Not that it affects the irrelevance of the strip, but I'm sure Garry hasn't drawn more than compensation in many years.
There is a staff that churns these out, probably one "BD-specialist", one "Zonker-specialist", etc.
Who actually approves them is open to question too, but it is his name on the bottom there, so he owns whatever tripe comes out...
My favorite current comic.
Next try:
Pearls before Swine is humorous and The Piranha Club managed to run a strip minus a single sympathetic character.
My favorite
It's amazing on so many levels. It's basically about a futuristic space exploring robotized society and the ideological underpinnings of what it means to be a 'person'.
You can't take a frame like that and not make profound libertarian conclusions.
Sure, socialists will say its reducto absurdium. But they aren't interested in developing morality from any first principles, just pull them out their ass, ready-made for violent enforcement.
Yes, comics have a lead time, but I believe that most comic artists have one or two in the can in case they get sick, etc., so I am not ready to give Trudeau a pass on this.
Update: Trudeau says he was aware the story was false when he published it, but let it run because it was Truthy.

Thank you for the timely research, J Mann.
"We had some internal discussion about whether the flaws in the [Rolling Stone] reporting mattered here, and we concluded they didn't...."
I would suggest to Mr. Trudeau and anyone else that factual information can be more helpful in the long run when promoting one's cause.
The "flaws" in the RS story?
You mean "flaws" like there wasn't a single statement that was true?
To a lefty twit, that's "truthy".
Yeah, as a former leftwing twit myself and with parents who still are lefties (out of respect for my parents, I won't call them twits lol), I can confirm outright lies are "truthy". Case in point: Al Gore on global warming and his scare tactics based on a computational error. MAN-BEAR-PIG!!
Maybe there's a 6 or 7 week lead time required to get Trudeau's stuff published, but it doesn't take that long for a newspaper *not* to print one of his strips, on the few occasions when one's deemed too far out. He could have given instructions to kill this one, couldn't he?

If the frat boys could just hold off being accused of rape until they're living in the White House it would be generally ignored.

You missed it. GT was providing a biting satirical piece on the left's blind ability to believe what they want, facts be damned, as long as the belief supports the narrative. Of course the UVA gang-rape story had been long debunked, but that has no relevance to Boopsie and her dogmatic conviction that while the specifics may be fake, the underlying theme is accurate, and that theme is far too important to be inconvenienced by a little thing like truth.
Even if the strip came out over a month ago, it's still an embarrassing strip--no jokes, no witty satire, just rage.
my best friend's mother makes $82 /hour on the computer . She has been without work for ten months but last month her pay was $14362 just working on the computer for a few hours. this page............

" I first aired my doubts on December 1st, and numerous other outlets followed suit."
I'm just going to take a wild stab in the dark here and guess that Trudeau *probably* doesn't read Reason, or much else that isn't blatantly left-wing.
Hmmm, I thought that Garry needed some help, so I updated his strip here... http://imgur.com/7v3CPcK

Trudeau has lived inside the Yale bubble for years. He's very well paid, he has lots of friends and admirers, he believes he's doing God's work. Do you really think that a little thing like the TRUTH wouold be allowed to derail that?
I still can't get past the premise the the strip has become less funny. The implication being that it was funny to begin with which, as a child of the early 70's, I simply cannot swallow; that shit was weak sauce 40 years ago.
