Tell me what daily show on cable television would have a lineup as described in the headline? NO OTHER DAILY SHOW ON CABLE TELEVISION, THAT IS THE CORRECT ANSWER.

Have you watched that gobsmacking Anthony L. Fisher vid of pointless drug war persecution in Alpine, Texas? I'll let you catch up:

On tonight's episode of The Independents (Fox Business Network, 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT, with re-airs three hours later), Fish'll be on to discuss.

Maybe you've heard of conservative wordsmith and free speech martyr Mark Steyn? He'll be on to talk about how nobody believes in government anymore, and also about his new book, The [Un]documented Mark Steyn.

Last week Robby Soave asked the immortal question, "How Does This Still Happen? Southern Oregon U. Students Not Allowed to Distribute Constitutions." We'll have the students in question, Jordan Mortimore and Dylan Moore, on to explain what happened.

Party Panel includes North Korea expert Michael Malice, who will talk about today's release of an American prisoner there, and beloved New York Times science writer John Tierney, who will assess the new Ebola travel guidelines.

Online-only aftershow begins at foxbusiness.com/independents just after 10. Follow The Independents on Facebook at facebook.com/IndependentsFBN, follow on Twitter @ independentsFBN, and click on this page for more video of past segments.

    "Fish'll be on to discuss."

Abbreviated name basis with the guests is NOT PROFESSIONAL!

    What's next? Fornication?

    1. GILMORE   11 years ago

      Fish is not a guest = he's a made-man.

I do not know about his "beloved" status = perhaps you need to have at least a 3+ year tenure before they'll throw you that bone.

      1. GILMORE   11 years ago

I think its a ceremony involving robes, incense, and a goat.

        1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

Are you trying to draw me in with a role for Kennedy in this ceremony?

          1. GILMORE   11 years ago

My point was that Fish is on the Team Reason payroll/roster, and is therefore subject to an entirely different set of rules from normal people.

"Beloved" people are members of the cult-leadership. I don't know when tierney got the nod, but looking at his skin complexion, i'm pretty sure it cost him a gallon of blood. Don't ask about the goat.

    INDEPENDENTS CONGREGATE!

    1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

      Congregate?

Are you a commie or something?

    2. gaijin   11 years ago

I read that initially as 'Independents Consecrate!'

      1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

The brave men, living or dead, who were interrupted here have consecrated the show, far beyond our poor power to add or detract.

      2. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

        Tomorrow night.

        Then maybe conjugate.

        1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

I ain't conjugating with any of you motherfuckers.

          1. gaijin   11 years ago

  4. Buddy Bizarre   11 years ago

Due to my confusion last night, I had to create a matrix to see what options are available for the great earring lotto:

    Stalker-ish?

    1. GILMORE   11 years ago

      SF'd

    2. Buddy Bizarre   11 years ago

      Sigh... 2nd try:

      1. Buddy Bizarre   11 years ago

        3rd try...

        How about now?

        1. GILMORE   11 years ago

          WOW

          That IS stalkerish

          No, but good eye there.

Why do you hate the children, Playa?

    2. PapayaSF   11 years ago

Nicely done, despite the waste of tax dollars.

    3. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

      ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

    4. gaijin   11 years ago

Well at least the dollars are working!

    5. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

A properly outraged populace would burn that to the ground

    6. Cytotoxic   11 years ago

Still money better spent than many education dollars.

  11. gaijin   11 years ago

HI I am Matt Welch, and I'm not a doctor, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

  12. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

If you look hard enough Matt could be Drew Carey.

  13. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

UH HOW MUCH DO EBOLA EPIDEMICS COST, FOSTER?

    1. PapayaSF   11 years ago

So far, about $500,000 per victim in the US.

      1. gaijin   11 years ago

speaking of victims, I don't seem to hear much about the status of Nurse Vinson...only the Nurse Pham. Are we mad at nurse vinson for embarassing the CDC?

        1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

          It's the media's well-known pro-Vietnamese bias.

        2. PapayaSF   11 years ago

And supposedly Nurse Pham had a boyfriend, who was under observation the last I heard.

          1. BigT   11 years ago

Nurse Vinson has a fiance - she was bridesmaid dress shopping when she was in Akron. they wondered aloud on local TV whether she had been intimate with her fiance during her visit.

      2. Cytotoxic   11 years ago

        Citation?

  16. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

So now they're throwing it to commercial at 9:10? This show is all over the place with its breaks.

    1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

I don't know when to get up to go make a nutella sandwich!

    2. gaijin   11 years ago

it does seem that the quality of commercials has improved over the last quarter (i.e., bigger brands)...it must be the libertarian moment

  17. Buddy Bizarre   11 years ago

Love Steyn's writing. Not quite as good verbally.

  18. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

    Canada rocks.

  19. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

Homeland security doesn't want its procedures rewritten. That's a whole other month of retraining.

  20. gaijin   11 years ago

    What is that accent?

    1. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

      Awesome.

    2. Buddy Bizarre   11 years ago

Born a Canuck, but educated in Birmingham, UK.

  21. GILMORE   11 years ago

What the fuck is up with Steyn's accent? You don't get that in Toronto last I checked

    1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

      It's the accent of a confused Yankee-Loyalist!

  22. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

He doesn't look like I envisioned him AT ALL. Pictured a skinny, blonde, limey as opposed to a fat, ginger, limey.

    1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

He doesn't make a secret of his appearance on his website.

As such, I am disappointed that he's not gnawing on a hockey stick.

      1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

They barely give him any time and Kennedy gnaws at that.

    2. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

      So I guess he's a Canuckistani.

Here is where the accent comes from:

Steyn was educated at the King Edward's School, Birmingham, in the United Kingdom, the same school that author J. R. R. Tolkien attended and where Steyn was assigned a Greek dictionary that had also been used by Tolkien.

  23. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

Boston to Belfast? I don't know who's the bigger loser in that.

  24. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

15 seconds for Mark Steyn? Are you fricken kidding me? You should have him for at least 20 effen minutes!

    So, SO, disappointed.

    1. John Titor (Formerly Jensen)   11 years ago

You could make a whole damn episode dedicated to Steyn. Hell, fire one of the main people, replace them with him. And he's not even libertarian, just a hell of a lot more coherent.

    2. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

In between commercials for old people stuff and Kennedy playing grabass with passersby on the street, a 20 minute segment would be the whole show!

  25. John Titor (Formerly Jensen)   11 years ago

Anyone remember Steyn's old columns in Maclean's? I was reading those in my teen years and remember when he had the Human Rights Commission go after him for hate speech. Probably one of my earliest 'fuck the state' moments.

    1. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

Damn straight I do. It's still in court I believe.

      1. Cytotoxic   11 years ago

Section 13 was stricken but that coward Harper has preserved the CHRC and given it a bigger budget.

        1. The artist known Dunphy   11 years ago

Those columns helped me understand how truly FUCKED Canada can be when it comes to civil rights

They were foundational in the grooming of a libertarian

      2. John Titor (Formerly Jensen)   11 years ago

They dismissed the complaint against Maclean's I believe.

At least it helped kill Section 13 of the Human Rights Act.

The Independents Attire Review, 21 October 2014

    Toilet Bowl-Edition

    - Kennedy: Fuscia? I hardly knowya? I was actually going to call 'Magenta', but what do I know. Either way this is some blazing hotness that rivals the Nuclear Creamsicle Orange in its magnificent contrast between luscious vanilla skin and tart, eye-burning chromatism. We are going to need a minute to name this but we're tentatively thinking: "Italian Ice". We welcome any suggestions. Winner of the evening by default. Its totally NeoRetro80sElectro

    - Matt: The recommended Blue on Blue on Blue formula. We like the navy blue tie best with blue shirt, and the (new!) royal blue or (classic) cyan ties better with white. We love this. We note that Matt's dialed the tie knot down to a shoelace, which actually looks pretty hip and different. He's learning!

    - Kmele: Normally we find ourselves struggling to find something good to say when sweaters appear, but here we have no problems at all. These Fall colors are so tasty by themselves that you can build a whole look around them. The pumpkin color + blue is a nice cross-color-wheel match.

Bonus: We will do Fish when he comes on.

    Bathos galore

Another audience member asked how progressives can shut down funny, effective lines coming from the right on talk radio, blogs and Twitter. "The right has short, pithy things to say because they lie," Halper replied.

She explained that clever jokes by conservatives aren't actually funny because such people lack empathy and nuance. "Progressives are more nuanced, statistically speaking," Halper said. The science is settled.

    1. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

The comment on Jon Stewart is accurate. His humor assumes that his audience all thinks exactly the same.

      1. Derpetologist   11 years ago

He doesn't even tell jokes anymore. He just silently stares at the camera with a bewildered expression.

Those furious zealots who are for cramming it down the throats of the people, without allowing them either time or opportunity to scan or weigh it in the balance of their understandings, bear the same marks in their features as those who have been long wishing to erect an aristocracy in [Massachusetts]. Their menacing cry is for a rigid government, it matters little to them of what kind, provided it answers that description. As the plan now offered comes something near their wishes, and is the most consonant to their views of any they can hope for, they come boldly forward and demand its adoption.

They brand with infamy every man who is not as determined and zealous in its favor as themselves. They cry aloud the whole must be swallowed or none at all, thinking thereby to preclude any amendment; they are afraid of having it abated of its present rigid aspect. They have strived to overawe or seduce [the press] to stifle and obstruct a free discussion, and have endeavored to hasten it to a decision before the people can duty reflect upon its properties. In order to deceive them, they incessantly declare that none can discover any defect in the system but bankrupts who wish no government, and officers of the present government who fear to lose a part of their power.

    Two trivia questions:
    1) Argument against Obamacare or something else?
    2) What was the name of the group of opponents that this attacks/attacked?

    1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

      1) Against the U.S. Constitution
      2) Anti-Federalists

      1. trshmnster the terrible   11 years ago

Close enough! (it was attacking the federalists)

Human nature never changes. Whether they're called Federalists, Aristocrats, Progressives, SJWs, Marxists or whatever else, it's the same slavers, the same tactics, the same end game.

        Anti-federalist #1, a paper I hadn't read in a long time. I'm glad I stumbled across it tonight.

        1. Notorious G.K.C.   11 years ago

Oops, didn't read your question carefully enough?

          1. trshmnster the terrible   11 years ago

I figured. I made it intentionally obscure to try to steer people toward it being a modern critique of progressives. The language differences (and the popularity of the AF papers) made it a long shot to actually trick somebody, but the general point of human nature stands.

  67. PapayaSF   11 years ago

It's because many, many liberals are hugely intolerant. I've been unfriended on Facebook for calm, rational, non-trolling disagreement. I never call names or question motives, but too many on the left just see politics through an emotional lens.

    1. Scruffy Nerfherder   11 years ago

It's not opinions, it's feelings of self-gratification. Their opinions are relevant only in the sense that they are social signals. The day that the response to social signalling changes, the opinion changes to continue the "good feels" of being a "right-thinker"

I actually really disagree with this. Christian fundies like Huckabee have been pitching a fit about the GOP drift away from opposing gay marriage. Everything in culture and party point in the opposite direction than these people, but they stay pointed in their direction.

        3. trshmnster the terrible   11 years ago

Identity politics. Why does a prey fish change direction with the school? Its identity as a fish means that it instinctually follows the school. Those prey fish that peel off from the school are vulnerable to being picked off by a predator fish (principled people, ideologues, etc.)

Many progressives see the ability to have the government use force to give out free stuff as a matter of raw survival - either because they're currently parasites, or they live in fear of the day when they will become parasites.

That means that to a progressive, calmly speaking as a libertarian strikes directly at what they perceive as their means of survival. To them, it's like you're some guy on the Facebook page of a pianist calmly proposing beating the piano player's hands with a hammer.

      1. PapayaSF   11 years ago

For some, sure, but I think for others this is a sort of over-identification with the poor, so they see any objection to welfare as meaning you want the poor to starve in the gutter.

By refusing to pay their workers a living wage, they slowly drove down the standard of living for the 99%. They create the conditions that force people to shop and buy their products.

They got richer while you got poorer.
Corporate earnings are up while real wages are down.

Force them to start giving back to the community by providing healthcare and a living wage to ALL workers, not just the executives at the top.

OT follow-up: remember one of last month's stories? Django Unchained actress Daniele Watts, who entered the national spotlight for allegedly "crying wolf" by claiming that her brief detainment by the LAPD in September was racially motivated, has been formally charged with lewd conduct. If convicted, she and her boyfriend Brian James Lewis, who was also charged, could face up to six months of jail time and a $1,000 fine.

I had already been jaded about "hate crime" reports, since so many of turn out to be frauds, but I'm now getting jaded about "Police are racists" stories. Not that there aren't some, but my skepticism is on the rise....

Nurse Being Treated For Ebola Impressed With Health Workers' New Gear

DALLAS?Admiring the personal protective equipment shielding her caregivers from the deadly virus, a nurse receiving treatment for Ebola told reporters Monday that she was very impressed with the medical workers' newly issued biohazard gear. "Wow, I only had the flimsy gown that exposed several inches around my neck, but this guy's decked out in a really nice full-body suit that covers everything," said the infected nurse, who was particularly taken by the updated gear's sealed hood, large apron, rubber boots, and second pair of surgical gloves, which are now recommended by the CDC for all hospital staffers treating patients exposed to the disease. "Sure, the surgical mask I had seemed great at the time, but the brand-new breathing pack and air filtration system my nurse was using really take the cake. It's cool to be one of the first people to see this high-tech equipment." The nurse confirmed she was most impressed with the new protocols for removing the biohazard gear, which reportedly involved more than tossing the protective clothing in the hospital's laundry bin.

Back in my teaching days, many years ago, one of the things I liked to ask the class to consider was this: Imagine a government agency with only two tasks: (1) building statues of Benedict Arnold and (2) providing life-saving medications to children. If this agency's budget were cut, what would it do?

The answer, of course, is that it would cut back on the medications for children. Why? Because that would be what was most likely to get the budget cuts restored. If they cut back on building statues of Benedict Arnold, people might ask why they were building statues of Benedict Arnold in the first place.

        Muscle is not unfeminine.

Real men aren't so intimidated by a little muscle

        Our bodies evolved to move

This is what happens when bodies move

I just told you we don't care if you're gay. What is it that you don't understand about that?

          1. The artist known Dunphy   11 years ago

Libertarianism says nothing about your personal moral stance towards homosexuality. It simply means that you do not think government should get involved in regulating peoples private sexual activity. Some libertarians are fiercely opposed to homosexuality. Some think it's wicked pissah. Some could not care less

That aside you seem to think that accusing me of being gay is some sort of insult when there is nothing positive or negative about being homosexual in my view anymore then there is something positive or negative about being blonde haired.

That aside you out yourself as a pretty insecure small-minded powerless little bigot if a little bit of muscle on a woman immediately makes you think of homosexuality

Those of us were confident in masculinity and respect a woman who is strong and can see the overwhelming beauty in a woman such as

              1. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

                Mary or Tulpa?

Think Mary could pull off all that cop shit? Of course, I doubt Tulpa could either.

                Asshole lying sock either way.

            2. Fluffy   11 years ago

Any woman who can competitively pole vault is guaranteed to be way, way, way too fucking tall for anyone shorter than Shaq.

Maria Sharapova type girls are only hot when you see them on TV and on TV only. A 6' 1" woman in person is like something out of a horror movie.

  104. The artist known Dunphy   11 years ago

    Yelena Isinbaeva!!!!

Does polevating select for beautiful women or make them?

    I suggest- BOTH

    1. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

Why are you ignoring me liar?

Think about how pathetic one has to be to lie about being a pig cop.

      1. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

I mean, if your going to lie about your identity, at least lie about being something noble, like an IRS agent or a used car salesman.

        But a cop?

      2. The artist known Dunphy   11 years ago

I've been accused of lying about being a cop from the first post I have made

        Plus ca change

        More polevaulting

        Goddesses!!

You very well may be a pig...but you aren't Dunphy. You are a fucking lying sockpuppet.

Shitbag imposter with fucking ZERO credibility.

    2. Hyperion   11 years ago

Look dude. I already told you that we don't care if you're gay. We're libertarians. Are you fucking retarded?

      1. The artist known Dunphy   11 years ago

And I told you that referring to me is gay is not an insult it's just not factual

On the other hand it is a fact that men who are intimidated by women with a little bit of muscle are sad impotent weak little boys

        1. Hyperion   11 years ago

See, your problem is in realizing that not everyone likes masculine women. For a lot of us, that's repulsive. Why do you keep pushing at this? Do you vote Democrat, because if you do, I bet you can get them to force people to like that and send swat teams to their homes to enforce it. And as a bonus, you can shoot their pets.

Can you just go to your bunk and fap to your trannies already? Maybe then the blood will return to your brain.

      1. The artist known Dunphy   11 years ago

It really is pretty sad how insecure you are such that a woman with a tiny bit of muscle appears to be transsexual to you

Out here in the real world there are millions of beautiful women who train crossfitor Olympic weightlifting or polevaulting or otherwise express their strength as part of their beauty and of course the two are inextricably intertwined and we real men who already intimidated by a strong woman can recognise that

I'm sure someone out there is a woman who is looking for a simpering cowardly spineless little coward like you and is skinny fat enough such that she won't threaten you with her 13 inch biceps

        1. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

          Insecure.

And in St. Louis, a leaked report of the autopsy seems to vindicate Darren Wilson.

    http://www.stltoday.com/news/l.....5fef6.html

I love how the story shows him in his graduation outfit, and they didn't use the photos from him robbing the store/strong arming the clerk.

    1. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

Dr. Judy Melinek, a forensic pathologist in San Francisco, said the autopsy "supports the fact that this guy is reaching for the gun, if he has gunpowder particulate material in the wound." She added, "If he has his hand near the gun when it goes off, he's going for the officer's gun."

Or, he's holding his hands out saying, "Don't shoot, don't shoot."

      1. PapayaSF   11 years ago

There is a question as to how far apart they were when the final shots were fired, but the first shots were fired when Wilson was in the car and Brown outside of it. I don't think anyone has been claiming that Brown was saying "Don't shoot" when Wilson was in the car. So the gunpowder probably got in his wound in the first struggle.

They're leaking this out because they're trying to let the steam out of the demonstrators before they reveal that Wilson won't be indicted. I wonder if they can hold if off until after the election? A race riot before the election is all the Democrats need to insure the electoral thumping they're in for.

(Unless they are totally desperate, and think a non-indictment and a riot will get out the black vote. Are they that cynical and stupid? Who knows....)

    What i'm watching now =

Why Songs in The Key of Life is the greatest album of the post-motown era, and probably the best 'album' of the 20th century, maybe next to Zepplin 4 and the Stones 'exile on Main st.'

  112. PapayaSF   11 years ago

Speaking of derp: Did diversity miss the train in Union Station's architecture? The urban playground at Union Station isn't drawing people of color and it may be the building's fault

The gilded chandeliers have been rewired, the marble polished, but there's no nod to the present, no interior walls in the bright colors of Mexico, no Asian simplicity is in the remix. There are no giant sculptures by African-American artists bonused into the lobby, no murals on the basement walls.

    Historical preservation is racist.

    1. Fluffy   11 years ago

A building with interior walls in the bright colors of Mexico, Asian simplicity, and giant sculptures by African-American artists would draw nothing but white people.

When I go to art museums, or to buildings designed and decorated according to the above principles there is nary a brown or black face to be seen. The last time I was at the Guggenheim it was whiter than fucking Fenway.
