Judge to LASD Cops: 'None of You Have Shown Even the Slightest Remorse'
A federal judge sentenced six current and former officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) on September 23 to years-long prison sentences after officers were found gulity of obstructing an ongoing investigation by the FBI into civil rights and corruption violations in the Los Angeles County Jail. From the Los Angeles Times:
Saying he wanted to send the message that "blind obedience to a corrupt culture has serious consequences," a federal judge Tuesday sentenced six current and former members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to years-long sentences in federal prison.
The sentences for the five men and one woman convicted of obstructing an FBI investigation into the county jails ranged from 21 months for one deputy to as much as 41 months for a veteran lieutenant.
"You broke the vow ?you made to protect the public and serve the community," U.S. District Court Judge Percy Anderson said, adding the six had acted to "shield the dirty deputies…. Perhaps it is a symptom of the corrupt culture within the Sheriff's Department."
"None of you have shown even the slightest remorse," Anderson added.
Defense attorneys repeatedly invoked the idea that the officers were following orders from higher ranking officials like former L.A. Sheriff Lee Baca, who retired after the scandal broke, and former undersheriff Paul Tanaka, who is both running to be the new Sheriff in November and is a part of the FBI's current investigation.

This place has broken me so badly that my first thought upon reading this, rather than happiness, was "Wonder how long until the sentences are overturned and they're returned to the force with back pay".
You know they will be.
They will probably all be hired on as "consultants" after they are free as a reward for covering for their bosses. Conversely they probably would have been killed had they not done so.

Nice to see that cops can be jailed for not respecting another cop's authority.
I wonder if we will ever see the day when they are jailed for committing crimes of violence against peasants.
Will the current officers be able to keep their jobs while serving their sentence? Or will they be forced to take early retirement and collect that pay while in the pokey?
Fucking animals. At least they'll be in a federal penitentiary where parole doesn't exist.
Let's hope they make lots of new friends in prison.
"None of you have shown even the slightest remorse," Anderson added.
Feature, not a bug.
Judge to LASD Cops: "None of you have shown even the slightest remorse."
LASD to Judge: "I'd watch my back if I were you."
It's LA: he was giving them direction, not criticism.
THANK YOU, U.S. District Court Judge Percy Anderson!!!!111111!!!11
+1!!1!111
Fucking awesome! I hope these rat fuckers are thrown in general population.
Wasn't there was another story about a cop getting convicted the other day? While still a long way to go, perhaps the tide is turning on these bastards.
Yeah, they're almost as accountable now as crooked politicians.
None of you have shown even the slightest remorse," Anderson added.
Why would they? Your fucking types have been propping up their lousy culture for decades.
Nice, but they really do need to grab the top cop by the ear - in this case Baca - and toss him behind bars as well.
Many people think he resigned because he knows he's next. A month earlier he vowed to campaign for reelection. 17 sheriffs get nabbed and he suddenly resigns to avoid being a "distraction" Tanaka is just as bad, and he's pretending he'll be the next boss. Supposedly, testimony implicated both of them. We're hoping it's just a matter of time.
You know who else said they were only following orders?
The guy tending the register at Quick Stop?
2LT William Calley?
Georg Cantor?

In their defense, she looked exactly like Christopher Dorner from that angle.
Prosecutors alleged that three of the defendants attempted to intimidate federal authorities by going to an FBI agent's house and threatening her arrest.
That's a special kind of stupid, right there. Even the mob knows not to fuck with The Feds.
