Tonight on The Independents: Israel/Hamas, Obamacare, Ukraine, Ebola, Skateboard Ban, Immigration Hysteria, Ex-Im Corporatism, More Enemies of Freedom, and Scatterbrained Aftershow!
So, last night's episode of The Independents began a familiar-sounding countdown of the show's slowly unveiling 25 Enemies of Freedom. Numbers 23-25 were wholly appropriate:
On tonight's live episode of the show (Fox Business Network, 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT, with re-airs three hours later), we'll talk about #s 20-22. In addition, there will be plenty of woe.
Party Panelists Michael Malice (impish ex-Russkie ghostwriting funbag) and Thaddeus McCotter (laconic former GOP congressman with a taste for electric guitar) are slated to chatter about the tentative end to the Israel-Gaza war, the trend of doctors opting out of Obamacare, the latest news (and hysteria) about the Ebola outbreak, and California's ban on electronic skateboards. Speaking of which!
Russia is massing troops on the border of Ukraine, so Michael Weiss of The Interpreter will talk about that bit of ominousness. The Free Market Institute's Benjamin Powell (watch his Reason TV interview here) will have the temerity to suggest that crisis of illegal alien children on the border is actually not that big of a deal; Kmele Foster will channel some Veronique de Rugy on the Ex-Im Bank, and the online-only aftershow (foxbusiness.com/independents just after 10) will do what the online-aftershow does. Speaking of which, here's last night's mess:

So at this point you're all guesting on Michael Weiss' The Independents? (That's right; he probably knows how to do tags.)
I pointed out a week or two ago that they'd apparently outsourced 25% of the show to, "Michael Weiss talks rapidly about foreign affairs"
...which I noted as a mild improvement on the 'occasionally have on Ron Paul to repeat some cranky objections to America potentially getting involved in any way'
i also think Weiss' style is such that he's hard to interrupt. He tends to have to be told "go" and then "stop". with not a whole lot of back-n-forth in between.
He's sort of like The Economist's section at the beginning ("Leaders"?) which has a brief blurb about 'everything going on in the world'.
..which I noted as a mild improvement on the 'occasionally have on Ron Paul to repeat some cranky objections to America potentially getting involved in any way'
Remember, Gilmore is NOT a neocon
Right
because libertarian foreign policy isn't even coherent enough to 'oppose'.
you're catching on Bo.
Just block. It's easier.
Bo is so fucking dumb that he repeatedly insists that "Not Libertarian FP cliche-repeating" = "neocon"
its about as logical saying every "not jew" is a Nazi. Yet he repeats it endlessly and thinks he's clever.
"Speaking of which, here's last night's mess:"
I admire Matt's honesty and candor.
You know, I have a huge problem with The Inderpendents. They don't think of the children enough.
Who will think of (and watch) the children?
The Inderpendents don't watch children. People with moustaches watch children.
Isn't your business watching children? I nominate you.
It's more an infatuation than a business.
It may indeed be an infatuation. After all, it's an all-women milieu.
Now that you mention it.
This thread is still a thing?
No. Not for Beltway insiders. Why don't you go edit more wikipedia articles from the computers of whichever ugly congressional staffer broad you're inseminating into! (narrows gaze)
"whichever ugly congressional staffer broad you're inseminating into!"
You've been reading my youporn history again.
Would you change your tone if I said I have access to the best Capitol coke that money could buy?
LOOOOOOOOOOS! How's it goin' buddy! 🙂
I've had time to process my feelings about this, and I can't seem to get weepy about it.
That was discussed in the PM links thread. Did you notice it was a guy who wrote that?
Only after I read the whole thing. Before that, I coulda sworn it was a broad.
I did not. That rather changes the tenor of the thing.
In other words a man was assaulted by another man, or claims he was, though he's reluctant to name and shame the individual involved. He reported his abuser, thereby removing him from the event, and seems satisfied with the staff's response.
And then the wheels come off the narrative and he's petting a service animal because his alleged assailant didn't appear as contrite as the author had hoped. The further in you read, the more unstable this fellow appears. I'm midway through and starting to doubt the fellow received anything more than a jocular shoulder jab.
You mean,
"a jocular jab of a needle into his neck, which caused complete loss of muscle control, whereupon he collapsed in a jelly-like heap while emptying his bowels on himself, and a group of bikers surrounded him and urinated on him in unison while singing 'Lili Marlene'"
right?
It must have been that.
Burroughs?
I was channeling something along those line.
Shit, I thought that might have been an actual quote from Naked Lunch.
[Tips hat]
Christ, can everyone see my youporn history?
Even if it was a little more than that you can't just tell him to back off, or bitch slap him. Why's everything have to be a fucking Odessey. Oh, someone touched me or made inappropropriate comments to me. I better go on Oprah and cry.
This is a case study in why what George Will said about the "social value of victimization" is actually 100% true
What he said seems to have been spun a lot of different ways, but that one point that he made seems indisputable = these days people seem to use the internet as a 'grief-magnifier' to enlarge just about any personal event into a *Journey to the End of the Night*-level epic tale of survival and endurance of injustice.
People wouldn't do this shit if they couldn't leverage the public-grieving into some kind of social-currency. Which is all the entire SJW bullshit is about. full stop. Its far more about group-identification and social-reward than it is anything to do with 'real life' cause-effect.
You have feelings? How did you get here?
I glanced that thing over.
I can only assume someone put his head in a scissor-lock and attempted to fist his bung.
Right? It must have been that.
Remember, Gilmore is NOT a Neocon!
😉
Now I know you're reading AlmightyJB's youporn history!;-)

Jazz might be the stupidest thing anyone ever came up with. The band starts a song, but then everything falls apart and the musicians just play whatever they want for as long they can stand it. People take turns noodling around, and once they run out of ideas and have to stop, the audience claps. I'm getting angry just thinking about it.
Coleman Hawkins is defintely an acquired taste, one which I never managed to develop.
Free jazz and all that, same here. Can't get into it.
But there are other forms of jazz I love. Big band, vocals (Fitzgerald, Holiday etc.), cool jazz.
I like it personally. It's cool not always knowing where the music is going.
Some of the free stuff that was really controversial in the 60's sounds pretty tame now. People used to beat up Ornette Coleman and break his saxophone. But this isn't really that crazy.
You might have missed this part:
Is this Bo's new handle?
Ask yourself again after I've shit on a thread for 17 hours straight.
Guffaw!
That was mean. I apologize.
Yeah, this is supposed to be a parody or something, although it's not very funny.
We always dressed real sharp: pin-stripe suits, porkpie hats, silk ties. As if to conceal the fact that we were spending all our time playing jazz in some basement.
That's fucking hilarious.
Alright, that's not bad. And this:
People take turns noodling around, and once they run out of ideas and have to stop, the audience claps.
You have to listen to the notes they're not playing!
All humor contains a core of truth.
Every time I visit H 'n' R lately, my security software tells me it's blocked some virus or other bit of malware. Anyone else having this experience?
Sounds like one of those bits of malware that tells you you have a bit of a malware so you'll download a bit of malware.
Bury your computer in the back yard, no less than six feet deep and no more than eight, then buy a new one.
That don't sound good.
I had this problem once. Best Buy said to restart in safe mode and then reinstall everything. I didn't have the CDs, so I just bought a new computer.
And PCmatic.com will give you herpes. Not the computer, you.
Someone please explain: Why is this particular TV show constantly featured at Reason.com? Is it produced by Reason? I realize Matt Welch is on the show, but other than that?
AFAIK it's the only libertarian-leaning political talk show on cable.
Why does Reason.com feature movie reviews by Kurt Loader?
You need to take the Red Pill. Then you will understand.
I'm watching reruns of 'Arrow' tonite instead.
I'm in the middle of season 2 of Archer.
Just did an Archer spree got to the last episode that Netflix has available and had a sad. I hope season 5 is coming out soon.
*had a sad that I watched the last episode available.
Did the same thing last weekend. Apparently, a character who has been on the show from the beginning dies at the end of season 5.
// NO SPOILERS PLEASE // I'LL WAIT!!
But I'm guessing it will be Woodhouse.
or Kreiger makes the dead character into a cyborg in Season 6?
Season 4 was weak. I hope it gets cancelled while I still think of it fondly.
There were some decent episodes/moments. What do you think is better?
It didn't all suck, but I recall liking the first couple of seasons best.
You're entering the Danger Zone.
Suicide squad one tonight
Is Arrow good?
Pretty good.
I liked the first season (which is the only one I've seen). Considering that the plot is essentially a limousine liberal fantasy about fighting Republican supervillains, it's pretty amazing that it's good enough to look past all that and just enjoy it.
INDEPENDENTS ASSEMBLE!
This show is still on?
Some people cannot afford to live in SF. That means people who own buildings should rent them for less:

Sometimes it's the ones you least suspect. Other times ...
A former Marine known to his comrades by the nickname "Psycho" was found guilty Tuesday in the 2008 robbery, torture and execution-style slayings of a fellow Marine and his wife in Southern California.
That doesn't sound like the Psycho I know.
Lighten up, Francis.
Prediction: Sleeves.
Terrible knots. Terrible ties.
Hamas' PR machine sure came out on top.
I remember when I cared about the musings of Carter.
Asshole.
< i The Independents have Godwinned!
ASSHOLE!
I can't believe we'd let a piece of manipulative murderous shit Hamas pull it off.
Israel is the superiour actor and agent here. There I said it.
Blow them back to the Stone Age. Curtis LeMay agrees.
"I am glad you are raising your voice"
I hate when my wife says that to me
It's Cytoxic.
The 1.4 million or however many might want to chime in on how the minute number of Hamas' militants acts.
Shit, The Flintstones are more progressive and advanced than Hamas and their lousy ilk.
Israel does employ Palestinians on occasion.
Exactly. Palestinian suffering is tiny compared to what the Jews faced throughout history.
collectivist much?
I really don't get Foster's blind spot for Hamas and the fact they act on the Palestinians' behalf. The Palestinians do need to act against Hamas, for their own good.
That's easily fixed. Just force them to take Obamacare.
Hamas stops fighting, war ends. Israel stops fighting, Israel ends.
Good one!
Who cares?
I'd like to visit Israel some day. If the Jews are beaten, it won't happen.
Go to Jersey.
Yeah, who cares if the only democracy and pro-American country in the whole Middle East is destroyed by totalitarian Muslim terrorists who hate the USA? What could possibly go wrong?
Exactly.
Doesn't affect me or anyone else in this country.
Oh, yes, it would.
How?
Seriously? To answer a question with more questions: How did the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan affect us? How did the Nazi conquest of France affect us? How did the Japanese war in China affect us? You don't have to be a warmonger to note that totalitarians on the march tend to affect the US, whether we'd like it or not.
Isn't this 2 tiered system something that Obamacare was supposed to solve?
THey are solving it, by making it completely ingrained.
I just realized how terrible Malice's jacket is. I have malice toward it.
It's pretty horrible.
Malice aforethought?
Kmele thinks only some tiny fraction of Gaza are militants? Sheesh.
He seems to be under playing how much radicalizing takes places in Palestine across the board.
It also looks like his tie clip is way too high. Who wears them at nipple level?
Weiss needs a haircut.
He's going for the 'Paul McCartney sings Let it be' look.
European girls like hair like that.
No one wants to be sent to the Russian front.
Reminds me, a Weiss beer would be nice right about now.
+1 Franziskaner
Squatters' rights? Or the Sudetenland Gambit?
Ha, once again Foster thinks appeasement works on everyone and both sides are equal.
well it did work with, uh, oh, not them. But what about, oh, not them either. hmm. Hope for change?
A Twitter exchange with the Russian Foreign Ministry?
The projection of America's power...writ small
I could do a Twitter exchange with Putin, and my insults would be more creative!
"I'm getting only glowing reports about Putin's relations with his opposition!"
Old person in denial: I thought it (shingles) was something only old people got. Also, no-mess easily carried catheters.
I love commercials on third-tier cable channels.
Now they're advertising catheters on < i The Independents, like the show isn't already a huge pain in the dick.
In a just universe, this would be on 2minsHate
Kennedy pronounced "Raul" as "rall".
MATT WELCH LIVED IN CUBA? That explains so much.
One week in Cuba made me sick of apologists for that asshole.
Matt is a commie infiltrator? Who knew?
The Independents Attire Review, 5 August 2014
Real Men Drink Heavily-Edition
- Kennedy: 'The Pink Doily' returns, with matching lipstick! It has a slightly different effect than usual due to the seasonal addition of 'light-tan' to Kennedy's otherwise-alabaster skin. Its not in our Top 5 Kennedy arrangements, but its a solid contender and much better than the occasional '50s schoolmarm' garb Kennedy goes for.
- Matt: Tonight's combo is pretty much what I beg for nightly: White shirt, bold-colored tie, well-fit jacket. The collar-issues of yesterday are entirely gone; this spread-collar i think is Matt's best look (better than the occasional point-collars we see), and could only be slightly improved by a fatter tie knot like a half-windsor.
- Kmele: The khaki blazer is regularly flagged as my favorite Kmele-platform, especially when it delivers the color-scheme that I call "The Flan". The black tie is second-best to the chocolate-brown, but the lightly patterned shirt helps it work even better.
Tonight is a group-win: the entire team brings their A-Game. Huzzah - Drinks are on Matt!
Diolch yn fawr
I enjoy your reviews when I See them. Not that you should take requests, but would you consider incorporating eyewear into a future commentary?
Do they ever change their glasses? They're treated as perma fixtures.
It would certainly be noted if one of them came in wearing contacts. That would be pretty epic, actually. Or Kmele: clean shaven?
What was Laura Bush's thing? I don't recall.
Libraries, IIRC.
That seems pretty innocuous, I suppose, unless you count all those free-internet pedos.
She did campaign for literacy but I don't recall if she was in office when she did so.
Well, she apparently did a very good job of it, since I don't recall reading anything about it.
Maybe you didn't know how to read?
Exactly.
But now you do, and you can probably credit Laura Bush for that gift.
Moochelle worse than Fidel? Nice!
A giant fallacy wrapped up in bad policy.
I feel a rap song coming on...
I don't mean this in malice
But he's a giant phallus
I dislike Michelle Obama as much as the next person, but I don't think she's near as bad as a Castro or Krugman.
Which is why she was higher on the list.
Wasn't Castro before her? I admit I wasn't paying close attention. What are the criteria for ranking these enemies of freedom? Is #1 the worst or are they just all equally bad? I NEED MORE INFORMATION.
Ima confused. Wasn't Michelle #21 & Castro #22?
Hell the hell should I know. I'm not watching this show.
And yet, your comments are more relevant than most.
I don't think she's executed quite as many political dissidents..
She's more annoying, because she's here in the US, but she's nowhere near Castro or even Krugman on the accumulated human misery scale. I place Krugman over Mrs. Obama as people take Krugman's expertise seriously.
Send Krugman to Israel.

K'(triple-tongue-click)-may-leleleleleleeleeleeee?
I would have guessed Kuh-MAY-lay. Kamil means "perfect" in Arabic like Kemal in Turkish.
Kmele like Pele would have been nice.
I thought the 'K' was silent with a soft 'M.'
So...Miele.
Sheesh, Kennedy plays the cougar card on Kmele.
She probably plays the cougar card on everyone.
Bears have good taste.
But they apparently don't care for transvestites.

what is drill music?
Music to have sex to?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk2udkCEUC0
And he was playing it while next to Matt?
Thats just dancehall.
Drill Music is supposedly a chicago area hiphop derivative, a la dirty south, Houston-Chopped&Screwed;, etc.
To me it just sounds like trap beats.
I looked it up and I don't care for it.
That is literally the only Bieber song I have ever heard, but apparently he's done other things.
You've got one up on me.
Got in a slap fight with Orlando Bloom?
I'm a countryman to that little fuck (but not an Indian, so I don't get free gasoline), and I have never heard even one of his songs even when he played the Grey Cup halftime show.
I have no idea what that Paul segment was about.
Vertical video. That kid was an idiot for not pointing that out.
To be fair, the subject of the video was vertical. Vertical video only annoys me when the subject clearly calls for horizontal.

Energy pipeline? I guess the word "oil" is too offensive.
Apparently, "Energy" is a filthy, smelly, black, viscous tar-like liquid, extracted from the ground.. How it makes it through the circuitry in my computer, I'll never know.
A modest proposal: for every illegal immigrant caught crossing the border, the border moves one inch south. That would move the border south about 15 miles per year.
We'd have to annex Tijuana
that's not a plan
Oh no, then we tell Bloomberg there's this awful city in need of cleaning up by a great mayor like him. Then either he cleans it up or he gets tarred and feathered.
I like this plan better.

Phew ok so I did hear it wrong
What a fucking idiot Ben Powell is. As if these kids aren't going on WIC as soon as they can. And it's "only" 8000 more than last year. Which was larger than the year before. Which was larger than the year before that. Trends, how do they work?
And an influx of poor people is going to make us "freer"? Au contraire.
Maybe the US could fix its legal immigration apparatus, and make things easier for the legal immigrants that are here before it gives out a bunch of benefits to illegals
You're not supposed to notice that the Chamber of Commerce likes cheap labor, and that the Democrats are electing a new people.
Actually, that influx of poor people will make us freer just like it did in America before 1924 and it still does in Canada.
As if these kids aren't going on WIC as soon as they can.
1) Citation needed.
2) So what? That money is being spent anyway.
In 2009 (based on data collected in 2010), 57 percent of households headed by an immigrant (legal and illegal) with children (under 18) used at least one welfare program, compared to 39 percent for native households with children.
As as I've referenced previously, in LA alone they are spending $650 million a year on welfare for children of illegals.
