Tonight's episode of The Independents (Fox Business Network, 9 p.m. ET, 6 p.m. PT, with re-airs three hours later) features the triumphant (if tardy!) return of Fox Human Resources Director Bernie Maxsmith, who will deliver your very best Two Minutes' Hate. It will also feature the Independents debut of basketball star-turned-commentator Jalen Rose, who will talk about his Detroit charter school the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, his recent OC Register essay "When a ZIP code determines a child's future," and his participation in a video called "Educational Choice Now." Watch that below:

Speaking of basketball, Party Panelists Paul Mecurio (Wall Street lawyer-turned comedian) and Monica Crowley (Fox News analyst, radio host, author of What the (Bleep) Just Happened? The Happy Warrior's Guide to the Great American Comeback) are slated to discuss: A) the recent controversies over ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith being suspended for his comments about domestic violence after NFL player Ray Rice was suspended (for only twice the amount of time) for actually beating up a lady; B) the latest Israel/Hamas developments; C) immigration policy debates; and D) Hillary Clinton's latest iteration of foot-in-mouth disease about her speaking career.

The co-hosts will talk about the Senate's version of the USA Freedom Act, and John Stossel himself will talk about the importance of being allowed to experiment—especially on yourself. (You won't want to miss the personal details!)

I choose E) Some of the Above.

  2. BiMonSciFiCon   11 years ago

I predict this show will be a slam dunk spot up three in the corner.

  3. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

I demand the return of Michael Moynihan.

    1. Dances-with-Trolls   11 years ago

What the show really needs is Michael Myers.

Do I even want to know what S A S said on the topic of domestic violence?

Have I mentioned I like Stossel?

But I'm afraid even he can't improve TI.

Your show is bad and you should feel bad!

There, hope I make the cut!

    1. Bobarian   11 years ago

      That's some weak sauce,boy!

You'll never be a dark lord of the sith unless you let your hate flow through you.

Emporer Gilmore-tine will zap you with his hate fingers if you can't do better than that.

  7. libertreee   11 years ago

Will the two minutes of hate bring comments about how Kennedy et al bring on unabashedly pro Israel propaganda spreading the line about how Palestinians hate Hamas? Will we get a comment that the Ukraine is being covered with the same old FOX Putin Bad/Obama not good enough Republican line?

    1. Bobarian   11 years ago

Uhh... What show are you watching?

    2. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

How much heroin do you shoot before watching each episode, libertreee?

      I'll just leave this here.

  8. Derpetologist   11 years ago

My local paper published another letter of mine. It's behind a pay wall, but here it is anyway.

I put the text on my blog: http://platedlizard.blogspot.c.....-laws.html

I see you have a devoted follower. And you thought no one liked you.

      Brilliant post, by the way.

I see you are being stalked.

      Nice letter.

    House Approves Lawsuit Against Obama

"Democrats dismissed the proposed lawsuit as a legally groundless exercise that could end up costing taxpayers millions of dollars in legal fees"

This, from the people who've blown hundreds of millions on State Health Exchanges which never actually worked, and regularly shits billions of dollars down the administrative funding toilets.

Seriously, if congress did NOTHING BUT sue each other, i'd be *thrilled*

    1. GILMORE   11 years ago

Good theme. needs work. rather that do the reductio ad absurdem of banning 'baseball', etc. maybe you could consider providing examples of the # and level of hysterical things we already do on behalf of 'the children'.

(FYI i get 'amber alerts' pretty regularly on my cell phone. I have no idea what im supposed to do about them other than go, 'OK')

      1. Derpetologist   11 years ago

Yeah, I wanted to get something down before I lost the idea.

I suppose I could simplify the structure by just calling for a ban on all the things that killed at least 1 child last year. Then it would be a big list of the most random and absurd things.

It's seldom an unpopular war when it's to defend your homeland from active attacks.

  21. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

No you fucking moron. It was a reference to people like Yasser Arafat getting a Nobel Peace Prize.

  22. Rufus J. Firefly   11 years ago

Let's get one thing straight. Israel is not looking to actively destroy Palestinians. Hamas is pulling a Jihad. Israel, ergo, has no choice but to eradicate those fuckers. Simple as that.

  23. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

Foster makes a valid point about talking about Hamas rather than the broader Palestinians.

  24. Bobarian   11 years ago

well you don't have to accomplish any thing in the mid-east to get a peace prize. Almost as easy as beating GWB.

  32. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

Do the Indies ever go on Stossel to plug this show?

    1. Buddy Bizarre   11 years ago

Kennedy did a guest spot as host for a game show schtick a week or two ago. I can't recall if Stossel plugged The Independents, but I believe he did.

      Crazy if you ask me.

      1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

You ever watch the Bullshit! episode on Chiros? Penn actually tears up in rage when discussing chiropractors working on infants.

          No. Will go look.

Read to the bottom, see Dr. X, DC.
Oops. Hope nobody goes for it.

      1. Sevo   11 years ago

        Oops
Ad in the paper, not As.

    5. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

Depends on the chiropractor. Good ones will tell you not to be a fat tub of lard and give you core exercises for posture and lumbar support. Bad ones tell you to come back 3 times weekly until you die of old age.

      1. Sevo   11 years ago

OK, but the supposed 'alignments' are so much crap.

        1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

Indeed. Just be honest about being a massage therapist wearing a lab coat and we have no problem.

        2. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

There's sort of a long story behind this, but I disagree.

The short version is that my friend had crippling migraines multiple times per week when he was young which went away after a few treatments with my dad (a chiropractor). They come back occasionally (usually every few years) and he goes back in for some maintenance and they go away again for a few years. He credits chiropracty with making his life bearable after he'd tried all of the conservative medical treatment available at the time (this was maybe 15+ years ago).

          1. Heroic Mulatto   11 years ago

I've heard people say similar things about traditional Chinese medicine. Which is fine...just don't pretend it's medicine. And you have to admit, chiropractic manipulation of an infant is despicable.

            1. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

I've never met a chiropractor that does manipulation on infants. I know a chiro that handles kids and he just recommends hanging older infants/younger toddlers upside down for a minute while the kids stretch before very carefully supporting their head and back while you right them slowly. It seems hokey, but harmless. I'd be very annoyed if I came across chiros doing more *rigorous* adjustments though.

          2. Sevo   11 years ago

I'll be real honest real quick:
Clinical studies, decent sample size, all the rest, or forget it.
Chiro has never done so, resists it, lives on anecdote.

            1. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

I'm not sure you have enough straight chiropractors* anymore to get good results. Insurance companies seem to think it's better to send patients to chiros before spine surgeons because the total cost of care goes down, so something in their number crunching indicates benefit whether it be psychosomatic.

*straight chiropractor refers to the chiros who purely do whack-em', crack em' treatment

Ultimately I don't care. If my back is bothering me I can swing by my dad's place, get an adjustment, I feel better and I get back to the set of core exercises I've been slacking on.

              1. Francisco d'Anconia   11 years ago

                This

              2. Sevo   11 years ago

Regardless of 'anymore', Chiro has avoided clinical tests since day one.

                1. jesse.in.mb   11 years ago

I don't have enough investment in this issue to get into a Jesus-doesn't-exist style debate with you on it.

                  1. Sevo   11 years ago

You seem to have enough to keep it going...

                  2. Sevo   11 years ago

And I'll keep it going for one more post, which I think is important:

"a Jesus-doesn't-exist style debate with you on it."
That misrepresents my argument, and not in a trivial manner.
I do not say 'jr. never existed'. I say 'you claim this magic man did, and there is not a shred of evidence. So, put up or shut up.'
Similarly, you want to claim chiro has validity? OK, put up or shut up.
The difference is quite clear, and I'd appreciate it if you did not misrepresent my argument.

      2. Dances-with-Trolls   11 years ago

How many chiropractors does it take to screw in a light bulb?

One but he has to come 15 times to do it.

The Independents Attire Review, 30 July 2014

    Dolls Eyes-Edition

    - Kennedy: Something of a re-run of Monday? Yes, the orange is darker, and this has the neck-candy stuff, but its more or less the same, and frankly we like the 'Blaze Orange'/Duck Hunting shade oh-so-much more. We don't get 'creamsicle' so much as as those hard-candies your grandmother always had that you never wanted. Of Kennedy's sleeveless garb, we like her blinding-white thing second to Monday's day-glo l'orange.

    - Matt: We'd hoped for a 'best of 3', rubber-match winner tonight to offset Tuesday's disappointing Return of the Pelt. What we get is something of a 'penalty kicks win': this appears to be the New Navy Suit! which so enthralled us last week when it first appeared: however, for some reason the pink w/blue shirt-tie combo seems to fall short of what should otherwise be a decent formula. We have been thrilled with Matt bringing the white shirts with solid ties and beg for more of that.

    - Kmele: Coo yah! Kmele im run di rude bwoy bizness? We are downgrading what we previously called "The Pimp", to "The Baller"; We can't help but look at this getup and think, 'needs Gucci shades and a cigar'; and of course a Bentley Continental GT and a few scantily clad women. Kmele wins = Top Ranking Independent of the Evening.

    1. GILMORE   11 years ago

      Since early February

I was more disappointed there was not enough 'funny' jabs, and just a lot of honestly hateful vituperation that wasnt even particularly clever.

One was basically a white person accusing Kmele of not being 'black enough'.

I find that kind of odd, particularly if you try and imagine Matt wearing what Kmele had on.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   11 years ago

I'm at four mentions, which means I'm catching up to Gilmore.

Jalen Rose tells story how he dunked on Jordan

    (cartoons are involved, worth watching)

As a basketball fan, i find this just a little funny... because if you actually tried to google for clips of "Person X" and "Jordan" and "Dunk"? 9 times out of 10 you're going to get Jordan dunking the shit out of everyone else. Over and over again. But still. Its something most people who played in those days would consider their personal 'moment'.

(Starks' "The Dunk" being my personal favorite. 1993-1996 were my favorite years of basketball and probably will be forever)
