Brickbat: Trapped

Farad Polk went to the Cook County, Illinois, jail to visit his son. That's where guards took him into a waiting room. The doors slammed and locked, and Polk found himself alone in the room for 31 hours. He says he shouted and pounded on the walls to no avail. He finally broke the head off a sprinkler, causing the room to flood and the fire department to respond and free him.

Whereupon he was arrested and charged with destruction of public property.
Aww, I was going to make that comment.
You probably know, but New York's prison guards union has 26,000 members. Prorate that to the rest of the US and we've got 400,000 prison guards? Yikes.
Worse - NYSCOPA isn't the only Prison Guard Union. They had a nasty rift a few years back over misbehaviour of the union officials. We may be up to three or four Prison Guard Unions with no overlap in membership.
More likely, once he's filed his lawsuit against them, they'll send him a bill for damages. Then, as his lawsuit continues, keep adding late fees and interest. The charge of destruction of public property and disorderly conduct will be held in reserve until he wins the lawsuit.
I laughed. Not because it's funny, but because it is true.
Look at it this way, he'll probably get a settlement, insufficiently prostrate himself to the IRS, and get tossed in the slammer. So it was kind of a practice run.
I'm sure he was guilty of something, so it's all good.
How did you get access to the Cook County Sheriff's Handbook??!
Nikki offered the deputy a sleeve job.
Bad boys, bad boys. Whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when your father visits you in jail and is trapped for 31 hours in a half-constructed wing of the prison?
Don't do the crime if your dad can't do the time!
But entrusting these folks with the job of executing people is A-OK. Makes perfect sense.
