It's a Good Thing That Obama Reads the Paper Because Otherwise He'd Have No Idea What His Administration is Doing
So it turns out that President Obama—that whip-smart guy who is so super-curious about everything (unlike that quitter-snowbilly former Gov. Sarah Palin amirite?)—apparently had no idea that his administration was letting veterans croak while on waiting lists for care at Veterans Affairs (V.A.) facilities. At the very least, his people knew about the waiting-list problems, including inaccurate reporting on treatment times, back in 2008.
You remember the Fast and Furious gun-walking snafu? He read about that in the papers. Same thing with NSA surveillance. And it took him a few days to realize that the Obamacare website was tripping balls but he finally started to get news reports about it after a few days. And needless to say, he didn't have any idea that the IRS—his IRS—was targeting Tea Party groups until he read about in the papers.
I'm guessing that he still doesn't really know that his Justice Department keeps deporting immigrants and raiding medical marijuana dispensaries in California either. At record rates. Because, you know, he said he wasn't going to pull that shit. Can somebody slip him a newspaper story about those things so he can finally get cracking?
If Barack Obama wants to play Chauncey Gardiner and basically act as if he has no frickin' idea of what's going around in his White House, that's fine by me.
But will his erstwhile defenders at least admit that either he is a know-it-all who is full of B.S. when he pleads ignorance or that he just has no clue about what's taking place in this City on a Hill already? It's not flattering to him whichever way you want to go. But at least it'll be consistent.
Last fall, Reason TV's Amanda Winkler looked at how the V.A. took care of soldiers coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq. In a word: shamefully. "Right now," said former V.A. program analyst Paul Sullivan, "it takes V.A. about a year to process a new claim. That is simply no way to treat a wounded soldier coming back from a war."
The root cause, according to Sullivan? The V.A. has received over 800,000 claims from Iraq and Afghanistan vets. Congress and V.A. planned for "zero." Zero. So if there's one thing the government stinks at more than actually planning and winning wars, it's taking care of the people it sends to fight them.

Obama's default stance seems to be that he's the outsider, campaigning in favor of change, and that he's going to look into problems and get them solved some time in the future. It's getting pretty silly after five years.
He ain't got a constu'ncy! He's the damned incumbent!
He's a gonna have to get one of 'em, yassir!
Start working at home with Google. It's a great work at home opportunity. Just work for few hours. I earn up to $500 a week. I can't believe how easy it was once I tried it out. http://www.Fox81.com
Look, the federal government is too big for the chief executive to know what's going on in every little nook and cranny. You wouldn't expect Tim Cook to know everything that's going on at Apple, so why would we hold Obama to a higher standard?
That's why we need to expand the federal government's oversight of tge federal government by adding more federal agencies and czars to monitor the extant federal agencies and czars. We can call it the Quis Custodiet Initiative. And imagine the savings we could realize by minimizing government waste with more oversight!
I'm thinking it should be called the Bureau of Sabotage.
On reddit, the number of commenters who claimed that the VA scandal was due to Republican budget cuts was amazing.
The VA of course had a sharply increased budget ever since 2001. From 2008 to 2012, it went up by ore than 30%.
So, obviously, this is psychological. They don't like the idea of vets being harmed, but cannot blame Obama.
So they invent budget cuts that did not happen.
AKA the Limbaugh Theorem.
It's a lot quicker and easier to just say "BOOOOOOOOOOSH!"
Hmm, I would like to debate this Rush 'King of the Rednecks' Limbaugh. How do I sign up?

Just repeating the word, "Bush," into the phone while rocking your Krugman plushie in your arms doesn't count as a debate.
"Rocking the Krugman plushie" sounds like a euphemism I'd really, really rather not be acquainted with.
I know what I did to plushies.
"I would like to debate this Rush 'King of the Rednecks' Limbaugh."
I'm pretty sure the 'King of the Assholes' would lose.
You never bother to answer direct responses to your bullshit, you simply hit and run.
...apparently had no idea that his administration was letting veterans croak while on waiting lists for care at Veterans Affairs (V.A.) facilities.
In his defense, he was too busy fixing national healthcare.
If by fixing national healthcare, you mean making it more like the VA system, then sure.
Fixing national healthcare or working on his handicap?
Worst President Ever?--I think he's going to win the prize!
Elizabeth Warren will take his crown a decade henceforth.
She has the national appeal of a haggis. No, a haggis could win the White House before she could.
Yup, too much baggage.
She's greasy and grainy and organ meaty?
She's illegal to import into the U.S.?
If only.
She's clearly grandfathered in. She came in over the Bearing Straight, no?
So does Hillary, but here we are.
Even some of my progressive friends will concede that she has a terrible grasp on fundamental economics.
Tough call, people who genetically don't understand economics are suggesting that someone else has no grasp of economics. Could it be that Warren is an economic genius?
You have progressive friends who have a fundamental grasp of economics?
Yes. It's frustrating. One of them knows better but doesn't care, she prefers that government take care of social problems because even though they'll do it poorly, she doesn't have to deal with it. She's willing to pay infinity taxes for that to happen (although hopes others will pay infinity +1).
One of them has a great head for economic systems, but thinks government power can be leveraged just enough to make things more equitable without bringing the whole system down on itself. If you get into the nuts and bolts of things though he's quick to spot out where the "unintended" consequences are, but he doesn't actively go looking for them.
At least she's honest about it. I guess that's the best you can do.
One of them has a great head for economic systems, but thinks government power can be leveraged just enough to make things more equitable without bringing the whole system down on itself.
You should have him read the entire text of Eisenhower's farewell address out loud.
It's like paying a hooker $1M to protect your childrens' virginity, right?
If she needs to pay a consultant to pay marginally more attention to shit that she doesn't care about, I'm available. I charge way less than infinity dollars.
Fundamental as in foundational.
Foundation as in basement.
Basement as in bargain prices.
Bargain prices as in fire sale.
Fire sale as in nothing but ashes.

But will his erstwhile defenders at least admit that either he is a know-it-all who is full of B.S. when he pleads ignorance or that he just has no clue about what's taking place in this City on a Hill already?
Nope. That would require them to admit that he's either a lying scumbag or a total buffoon. That is not the image they've invested themselves in, so they just ignore it. It takes a special level of self-delusion to be an Obama supporter; you have to be willing to both lie to yourself and others. That's a fucked up place to be.
It's a level of irrationality that's highly troubling, because it's against their interest. They should throw him under the bus to protect the party's future, including this upcoming election. Instead, they're denying reality rather than this awful president.
Partisans in the past would jettison someone like this out of self-interest.
I think his skin color has something to do with it. You see Obama's Presidency is supposed to absolve America of its racist past. However if he is seen as a failure then that is a failure of America to move beyond its racism and of the progs for allowing him to fail so they are far more ultra-partisan then they normally are.
I think race is a part of it, but it doesn't explain everything. I truly do not understand how this has happened, especially since he's not terribly charismatic, not at all competent, and comes across as quite petulant and not remotely "unifying." Everything he was supposed to be, he's pretty much the opposite.
There's also the fact that he came to power in a recession and was supposed to lift America from the darkness of Bush and give everyone free healthcare doesn't help either.
They invested so heavily in their messiah...Who's going to admit to themselves they got burned so bad? Also, turning on him now would mean they were off the TEAM, and its their whole identity.
He's so articulate
The media has worked very hard to portray him as an adult the last few years. A hard task, considering every time he speaks off the cuff, he sounds like a child throwing a tantrum.
Never heard an articulate person say 'um' and search their words so often.
He's a putz and a poser.
I think 'articulate' is a dog whistle for suburban liberals that means he's not 'urban'.
Very few progressives I know took the view that Obama's presidency absolved or was going to absolve America of its racist past. I've far more often heard things like "No, just because we have a black president doesn't mean racism is over" in response to the people promoting that idea.
Anecdotes are not evidence.
Perhaps "absolve" may not have been the best term but I really do think they feel that his opponents are racist and that Obama being seen as a failure would bad since that means America is still heavily racist and they failed to prevent it.
"Anecdotes are not evidence."
Because your assertion was totally backed up by convincing evidence?
I agree that many progressives do think that much, if not most, opposition to Obama is motivated by racism, most of those people probably are extra motivated because of that to prevent his administration from being a failure. Where I disagree with you is the assertion that Obama being a success or failure determines (in their minds) whether or not America is still racist. I think the vast majority of these people would still feel that America is racist, even if Obama were to have a high approval rating and be seen as a success by a majority of people upon his exit.

I think the vast majority of these people would still feel that America is racist, even if Obama were to have a high approval rating and be seen as a success by a majority of people upon his exit.
Damn it, you are absolutely right on that.
What I meant is that Obama has to be seen as a success because otherwise his Administration being seen as a failure will be seen as evidence of America's racism by the progs and in turn that they have failed. Of course I should have realized when writing these posts was that they will always think of America as being racist since they will claim the opposition is racist.
That's because a large number of African Americans define themselves by their race and a numerically much larger number of white Americans are both literally afraid of black people and afraid of being perceived as racists.
I caught an NPR program (taped a while ago) about an Afro-American woman who had moved to France. She talked about how she tried to cut a movie line with her French black friend and was ASTONISHED when the white French weren't scared of her and just told her to fuck off to the back of the line. Her entire attitude toward race was based around being able to scare white folks at will and using that to get her way. She didn't grok any other way to interact with whites.
Voting for Obama was guilty liberals way of saying "LOOK I'M NOT A RACIST". Except that by voting for someone primarily over skin color, they've just affirmed that they aren't past race, that race, in fact, consumes their minds.
Skin Color? You are another stupid redneck conservative.
Like many, I lost hundreds of thousands of dollars while your Bushpigs were sabotaging the economy. In total, we lost $15 trillion.
I have gained most of it back thanks to Obama and Bernanke.

What prize do I get for being insulted by Shriek?
It's too common to warrant a price, sorry.
And yet you can never actually figure out how Bush managed to do that. Was it the tax cuts that Barry mostly likes? Was is the CRA that Billy Bob started to jack up? Ah, it must have been the dot bomb that gave us "surpluses" (aside from the fact that total US debt has never declined in any single year for decades).
And how did Barry save us? Well he pissed away $1T in stimulus, about the same amount that Bush pissed away in Iraq. Barry continued to spend in Afghanistan with no real results. If TARP saved us, then you have to give some credit to Bush because it passed during his admin. GM? Same thing. Oh, I know, it was Obama opening up all that federal land to fracking. Oops.
Bush was terrible because he spent like a drunken sailor. Barry is terrible because he's another Bush but with delusions of LBJ-hood. And you? You're just an idiot.
I'm claiming this quote for myself because I just thought of it and it's fucking great:
"Put Bush and Obama into a barrel and kick it down a hill. There will always be a 'Worst-President-Of-The-Century(tm)' on top."

I know people who lost their jobs, and a good portion of their retirement over that debacle. When they tried to start a nano side business, they got fucked with by regulators. I'm glad Obamma, and company gave you back your "Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars" at their expense.
You a fucking piece of human garbage.
You claim to be able to out-debate people yet you obviously don't even have an elementary grasp of why the economic crisis happened.
How did it happen? Because people were sick and tired of Booosh and because candidate Obama said all the right things and spoke in fully formed sentences.
I am serious. I think every single thing President Obama has done was campaigned against by Senator and candidate Obama, and while a lot of people (but not all) saw him as a community organizer out of his depth, nobody expected the complete 100% 180 degree change that began on day 1.
I don't think any politician has executed such a complete reversal in such a short time.
The skin color thing is...well...only skin deep. The black conservative candidates lately have been viciously attacked, called Uncle Tom's and house nigger. They are shameless racists.
The truth is, like Warren, they love him because he is a slimy fucking pinko. His skin color is incidental, and he is not even really black.
That's all true. However his skin color gives extra ammunition to their "Republicans and Libertarians are racist" cudgel and they sure as hell take advantage of it.
The partisans have gotten to the point where they don't live in reality any more. They've so invested themselves in what they wanted Obama to be that when it turns out he isn't, instead of reacting rationally, they just go FULL DELUSIONAL and pretend that he is what they wanted him to be. Because they've become comfortable denying reality, so denying reality about Obama is just another day for them.
The only thing that can bring them back to reality is utter destruction at the ballot box. And even then they've shown that they prefer to believe in conspiracies or silent racist majorities or anything else that lets them continue to deny reality.
I don't understand it, and it's really difficult for me to figure out why anyone would want to live like that, but there are a lot of people who do, and they're kind of creepy. Cults of personality/TEAM are extremely dangerous.
They've so invested themselves in what they wanted Obama to be that when it turns out he isn't, instead of reacting rationally, they just go FULL DELUSIONAL and pretend that he is what they wanted him to be.
Case in point: after the first presidential debate in which Romney was largely seen to have dominated Obama and embarrassed him, hardcore Obama zealots were convinced that the president. genius strategist that he is, was employing a rope-a-dope approach to the debates and let Romney win.
They could not fathom that Romney was better prepared and in a better condition to debate than Obama. No, it had to because Obama was playing a game.
Thanks Candy Crowley. I think you can level blame for Obama's win at her alone.
Obligatory: Romney is a shit sandwich. Obama is a giant douche filled with diarrhea, though.
She practically "moderated" that debate sitting in Obama's lap.
Not to mention the op-eds in the major papers accusing Romney of trying to become the first "Post-Truth" president unlike honest Barack Obama.
What was the difference between their speaking time for that debate? 12 minutes, iirc.
Romney was a horseshit candidate. He neutralized the single biggest issue against Obama. His NE, Bush-inspired, compassionate conservativism left him with no real principles on which to run. Romney was the single biggest reason for Obama's continued residency.
^This.
Also, look for the R's to try the same thing again, nominate a liberal RINO and try to paint him as a conservative, which absolutely no one will buy. The D's will then try to paint him as an ultra-conservative.
It is pathetic.
Team Stupid never disappoints.
Didn't they also blame the altitude in Denver for Obama being out of it?
Probably. I remember the post-debate MSNBC coverage well. Christ Matthews and Rachel Maddow looked like two children that had just found out Santa Claus isn't real.
The shock permeating through the media and blogs after that debate was...awesome. And even that didn't shake their faith (though it clearly came close), as soon as they could come up with some "excuses" for it.
They're utterly, totally invested in a fantasy. It's why only words matter and not actions; the words reinforce the fantasy, and they then ignore actions, and the politicians have learned that if you just say the right words you can get away with almost any action.
Oh it was Manbearpig:
"I'm going to say something controversial here," Gore told Current TV, the network he co-founded. "Obama arrived in Denver at 2 pm today, just a few hours before the debate started. Romney did his debate prep in Denver. When you go to 5,000 feet and you only have a few hours to adjust, I don't know."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....rformance/
I think Obama's messiah status from the progs is so potent for many reasons. He is black but also supposed to be the Great Prog Hope, the culmination of all of their hopes since 1968 who would finally defeat the GOP and massively grow the welfare state such as avenging the defeat of Hillarycare. Not to mention the recession caused their economic idiocy to popup and the WOT caused their hatred of opposition to boil to the surface and the end of the COld War has caused them to forget all of their anti-communist and pro-civil liberties sentiments.
I just realized...perhaps they feel that Bush won because they didn't side with Al Gore so the solution is to become rabidly partisan to make the GOP never win again?
What are you talking about! Al Gore won that election and the thugs on the Supreme Court stole it from them! We would be living in a carbon free agrarian utopian society by now if the election hadn't been stolen from them.
Partisans in the past would jettison someone like this out of self-interest.
The dems have done a 180 from the days of Clinton and the RINOs have infilled behind them.
They have nothing to cling onto without Obama...he is the only one holding this far left mess together.
Denying the president would be denying themselves. Sorry, they're stuck.
Yeah, this is the thing. They've gone too far to stop. They've invested too much of themselves in TEAM and TOP MEN and fantasies about capitalism and freedom and the like. They're so far off from reality that coming back would be brutal. So they won't. Now, I'm not sure what happens when large groups of people absolutely refuse to accept reality, but I imagine it can't be good.
You know what happens, it just sucks to think about, but it will come.
I think it's pretty typical partisanship IMO. Most Republicans had a positive opinion of Bush's job performance till the bitter end, even though his general approval ratings were far lower than Obama's are now. Although I think the Democrats have turned up the creepiness in their devotion to the president a few notches.
I'm pretty sure that's (overall approval ratings between Bush and Obama) not true. I seem to recall some stories about Obama's ratings going lower than Bush's a couple months ago.
I don't know how they compare at equivalent points in their presidency, but I do know that Obama's are still much higher than Bush's were at the end of his, which is what I was referring to. Even then, when his approval was in the 20-30% range nationally, most Republicans still approved of the job he had done.
Bush's ratings didn't drop below 30% until 2008. Obama's ratings are lower relative to Bush's at the same point in his presidency.
Here's a graphical comparison:
http://l2.yimg.com/bt/api/res/.....tings.jpeg
Basically, Bush was far more popular than Obama for most of his presidency.
"mmmm mmmm mmmmm Barrack Hussein Obama" and Pajama boy are the 2 creepiest things I've seen in Presidential politics.
Who is pajama boy? Is that the really creepy guy with the writing on his hands on Twitter?
Your Google broke? Pajama boy.
Never saw that before. Definitely creepy.
This is what is profoundly confusing about Obama and his sycophants.
I think we're seeing late-stage effects of blind, rabid partisanship on a scale that we've never seen before. The internet allows these people to get together and deny reality in massive groups and just reinforce the shit out of each other's delusions. People couldn't get together and do that on this scale before.
Their out is "but Bush". Bush fucked things up so bad that blah blah blah.

Mexico should have declared war on the US over that.
Why
Are you talking to me? Our justice system armed paramilitaries that basically own parts of their country. If that's not a casus belli, what the fuck is?
Honestly, anyone involved in those operations should have been tried for providing material support to terrorists. That we didn't throw them in a deep hole tells Mexico that we give zero fucks about their sovreignty.
I think Mexico already knew that.

Ever since Obama got elected he's basically been softpedaling around the topics of Drones and Sex-harassment, while providing his Pentagon Sources a wonderful platform to write career enhancing op-eds.

How do this administration's apologists manage to get up every morning. This is such a poor excuse for leadership. All they do is lie and spread trillions of dollars around to get votes.
We are SO screwed.
Obama should not read the newspapers. They just upset him -- and destroy his "plausible deniability."
At least Palin found and dealt with corruption in government, by politicians in the Republican party no less. The liklihood of Obama dealing with corrupt Democrats is a big fat zero, but he will prosecute those who point out the corrupt acts of others in government.
How many more govenrment problems will Obama learn about from reading the papers? We're lucky the MSM even reports them, but it appears they are worried about being scooped by FOX (in the newsroom) and losing ad revenue (in the business offices).
Special thanks to the esteemed SugarFree for finding this gem for me.
Dondero liked to post his phone number here and then complain that no one ever called him. I don't remember him ever physically threatening anyone here, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had.
Dondero absolutely threatened people and challenged people to fights. It was hilarious. Just like joe, Dondero is incredibly short (someone on H&R saw him at some event once), and you got the classic Small Man Syndrome behavior from both of them.
I also would have sworn that a couple times that Dondero came on H&R and challenged people to fight, he was drunk.
