Elderly Man Calls 911 to Get Ambulance for Wife, Says Police Beat Him Up Instead

In a town called Humansville, in Missouri, an elderly man called 911 to get an ambulance for his wife, who suffers from dementia. Tragically, you'll believe what happened next. Via local ABC affiliate KSPR:
When police got there [first], "police car drove up, he bailed out ran over and knocked me down. He told me to get up, I told him I couldn't," he explained.
That's when [Elbert] Breshears says police got aggressive. "First thing, I know they grab me, threw me out there on the gravel. One of them sat down on my back, the other sat down on my head. They were trying to get handcuffs on me. I told them I can't get my hands up. I have no objection to being handcuffed," says Breshears.
By then paramedics arrived. Breshears says he and his wife were taken to the hospital. A doctor looked him over.
Cops claimed the elderly man attacked them. The mayor of Humansville and the police chief both declined to be interviewed on camera by KSPR, though the police chief spoke with the news station over the phone. He said Breshears would be charged with abuse of the elderly, resisting arrest, and assault on a police officer. Breshears denies ever hitting his wife of 47 years.

I have no objection to being handcuffed," says Breshears.
[Da Chief] said Breshears would be charged with abuse of the elderly, resisting arrest, and assault on a police officer.
Holy shit this story has everything.
Stop resisting resisting!!!1!!!!!111!!
I think you meant "Stop stop resisting"?
He said Breshears would be charged with abuse of the elderly...
Oh, the irony.
In Soviet America, crime commits you.
*golf clap*
Poor guy. He grew up in a time when at least some police officers were actual public servants, and would help out the community. He didn't know that things have changed and now 'officer safety' is paramount and since they have also been elevated to the status of 'heroes', apparently for simply burying their snouts in the public trough, they can act with impunity and without fear of accountability.
Never. Call. The. Police.
He didn't know that things have changed
That's what happens when you don't know how to surf the intertoobs.
Never. Call. The. Police.
I thought he called 911 for an ambulance?
There is probably a business opportunity for some kind of system / network to request an ambulance service WITHOUT any chance of the cops intercepting the call.
If I had a medical emergency with myself or a family member, I would pay a fee to stay off the cop radar.
They seem to love a chance to take advantage of a medical emergency to snoop around, maybe shoot some pets, whatever. Very glad my town doesn't have a police force.
You can call private ambulance services, if you have those in your city. The response time might not be as quick though.
You can call private ambulance services, if you [are allowed to] have those in your city. The response time might not be as quick though.
FTFY
I fully agree, never call those bloated taxpayer raping pigs,
The police corruption in this country is absurd, it will only get worse because of the meddling Feds....
Beating old folks up? Tripping high-school girls? Impersonating a proctologist? How much more of this bullshit before it's Open Season on the Pigs?
How much more of this bullshit before it's Open Season on the Pigs?
Infinity. This is America, after all.
You know that evil universe in Star Trek? This is it.
damn, I hope you are wrong
I applaud Reason's commitment to expose the many cases of police misconduct.
However, stories like this need to be researched better before being sent out to boil our blood. There are so many questions unanswered and so little source material.
It would be unproductive for Reason to become known as the boy who cried wolf too much.
You know who else cried wolf?
Tony? (fall back answer)
Is Reason known as a wolf crier? I certainly can't imagine a scenario where assaulting an 80 something old man is justified, unless he was threatening with a weapon. The most realistic scenario is that this cop beats off every night at the thought of getting to use force against badgeless peasants.
Are you referring to the cop in my little town who was tripping and pushing students? Oh, we worked that out. Turns out the students are not allowed to run onto the field after the game. The cop was just attempting to prevent anyone from getting hurt (perhaps he needs more training in how to do this).
My neighbors and community leaders cleared all that up for me.
I love big brother.
Abuse of the elderly? What's the theory? That's he's responsible for the cop beating him up?
That's he's responsible for the cop beating him up?
Another tragic case of "Tina Turner Syndrome"......why you make Ike hit you baby!
He ENTICED them!
An instigator and enabler.
And an ambulance hog...
It seems there was history here and the police finally saw an opportunity for some "payback".
Words just fail.
My spittle-flecked monitor begs to differ.
Don't steal my phrases bro'.
Wow, knee-jerk anti-cop hatred. What a surprise!
If they're actually charging him with abuse of the elderly and not just resisting arrest, then clearly something happened that this guy ain't letting onto. Every story has his side, their side, and the truth. This gives just one of those.
Wait till the jury gets round to it before you all spew your vitriolic prejudicial BS.
Which, of course, justifies a group of men required to maintain a certain level of physical fitness manhandling an 80-something year old man to the point of visible bruising.
"maintain a certain level of fitness"????
You obviously haven't been hanging around the donut shops lately.
I had to laugh.
"If they're actually charging him with abuse of the elderly and not just resisting arrest, then clearly something happened that this guy ain't letting onto."
You assume that police actually charge people with offences based on crimes they commit, not on whatever the fuck they feel like they can get away with. Educate yourself, you boot-licking cop-fellating authoritard.
Hey, Kathryn Johnston was clearly a drug pusher, the cops wouldnt have murdered her otherwise.
I heard Kelly Thomas beat the shit out of three cops so bad they all went into a coma and died five days later after they were all removed from life support.
But I could have that backwards.
The one guy did get a boo-boo on is elbow. A big scrape - a number of millimeters in length. Thankfully the paramedics were able to treat and photographically document said boo-boo expeditiously.
Never forget that Ramos told the paramedics that he had been in the fight of his life.
First, he didn't call the cops, he called the paramedics. The cops came anyways, and somehow this guy ended up with gravel embedded into his skull. Now knowing this, please convince everyone that their presence did not make the situation worse.
If they're actually charging him with abuse of the elderly and not just resisting arrest, then clearly something happened that this guy ain't letting onto.
Bullshit.
That is a restatement of "if he wasnt guilty, he wouldnt be charged."
Yeah, no innocent man has ever been charged with a crime. That never happens.
There has been enough of these stories that assuming the worst from the cops may be unfair, but its the way to bet.
"if he wasnt guilty, he wouldnt be charged.
Sure smells like Tulpa
Ding Ding Ding
If it smells like a Tulpa and walks like a Tulpa then it must be a piece of shit.
Tulpa doesn't walk, crawl or slither. He oozes forward.
He moves only with the assistance of dung beetles.
He can move completely on his own, while his head is bobbing up down over a cop's crotchel region.
The wife was shrieking for help when the cops showed up and he claims she had smashed a window and he was trying to restrain her from hurting herself further.
According to a police report I got hold of last year, the cops in my ex-wife's town have been involved in past custody disputes between us. Except that they haven't been. Which should I trust, my lying memory or the police report? I guess the police report, because clearly something must have happened or they wouldn't have written it down.
The wife was shrieking for help when the cops showed up and he claims she had smashed a window and he was trying to restrain her from hurting herself further.
Which is a very credible story, since he had just called the paramedics for help with his wife who suffers dementia.
Cops have special brains that can see right through cunning plans such as that.
Cops have special brains
Stop right there.
You're right about that. One sig below mean...
If they're actually charging him with abuse of the elderly and not just resisting arrest, then clearly something happened that this guy ain't letting onto
Clearly... CLEARLY! Can't you see how obvious it is!
Ooooh, a new troll! Or are you an old one under a new name?
Starts with "T" and ands with "ulpa"
Yeah, you're probably correct there.
clearly something happened that this guy ain't letting onto
I'm sort of suspecting that also. But that doesn't excuse police brutality, even if it is true.
I hope there's some follow up to this.
If they're actually charging him with abuse of the elderly and not just resisting arrest, then clearly something happened that this guy ain't letting onto.
Conviction first, trial later, eh?
I AM THE LAW!
No, I am the law!
Police heard 911 call, got there first, heard woman screaming, assumed person next to her was abusing her.
As someone said, police are trained NOT to think. And they are proud of it. I guess errors of judgment are a liability but errors based on not thinking at all are justifiable.
Dunphy! That you?
Wow, knee-jerk cop-cock sucking. What a surprise.
If there was another side, the police would have been happy to give it to the reporter. Instead, they have to pow wow to make sure their stories all match and seem plausible.
"If they're actually charging him .......... then clearly something happened..."
Dumbest fucking thing said on the entire series of tubes today. You win the dumbfuck of the day award madamadam.
No way they're just covering their asses, right?
Madamadam,
When you have your favorite "hero's" nutsack in your mouth, does it taste chocolate-y or salty?
Tell me. . . do those cop boots taste good?
Fucking lickspittle.
Go back to PoliceOne where you can circle jerk with your pretend soldier cops.
The cops beat up and old person and they charge the victim with "abuse of the elderly". I don't even think Kafka could write something that sick.
I wouldn't even call this Soviet. The Soviets sometimes had a rhyme or reason to what they did. The NKVD randomly arrested people. But even they didn't just wait for ambulance calls so they could jump out of the car and beat the shit out of old people.
The abuse would be against the wife.
Of course, when a person with dementia starts doing dangerous tings, the first thing to do is restrain the caregiver and let the demented person carry on.
That is, it's the first thing to do if you have shit for brains.
How about a SWAT raid on a run-of-the-mill pot smoker that results in charges for "child endangerment" and loss of custody and visitation rights? 'Cause pot is, like, dangerous.
He was endangering his children by giving the cops a reason to storm his house and fire their sub-machine guns over the children's head. Had the cops shot the child, perhaps the homeowner would be charged with murder.

Wait, Humansville?
The cross-county rivals of Aliensberg.
I have this weird vision of all of us being pod people except for the people of Humansville.
You might be on to something...
So the rest of us are reverse vampires?
Controlled by the Rand Corporation.
Something tells me the Koch brothers had their nefarious hands on this.
Made me think Personville as in Red Harvest.
It's amazing that there are still so many people out there who think calling the cops is the right thing to do when you're in trouble.
I blame the major media outlets for not highlighting these incidents. If there's no black on white racial angle, it's nothing to be outraged about.
I talk about this type of thing (plus the dog shootings) all the time and my friends think I'm nuts. Unfortunately, a friend of mine had to learn the hard way after calling the cops after he got into a fight. The dumb ass is still dealing with the legal system a year later over some stupid shoving match.
oops, meant white on black.
I forgot the best part. He was charged with a hate crime (he's Hispanic) for telling the other other guy (an Indian), in the heat of the moment, to go back where came from.
Another thing everyone should know is to never call for an ambulance unless it's a life threatening situation.
First, it will likely involve the cops, which means they'll run your record and cause you any problems they can, and second, you will get charged a ridiculous fee for the ambulance, even if all they do is take your blood pressure. Heck, even if they don't touch you, you will get a several hundred dollar bill. It's cheaper to take a limo to a hospital and got to the ER.

I wonder when this changed? The last time I had to call 911 was because someone was having a seizure. The cops didn't show up.
It depends on the town/locality. I imagine that some places the cops are bored and more venal than usual and are looking for something to do/people to fuck with/a chance to make an arrest.
In some localities spme of the cops are also EMTs and volunteer for the local squad or fire department. When on duty they will first respond if available.
In my small town this is exactly the protocol. The cops in my small Ohio town are almost exclusively from New York, that our city hired to prevent local bias. Heaven forbid the townsfolk be treated like neighbors as opposed to targets. These cops are NYPD rejects who look at any opportunity to make an authoritarian name for themselves so they can thump peasant skulls in a bigger police department somewhere.
Dot or feather?
He told him to go back where he came from.
If it had been feather, he probably would have responded "Im from here, motherfucker, you go back."
Some people aren't so bright.
It's amazing that there are still so many people out there who think calling the cops is the right thing to do when you're in trouble.
If you take the story at face value, he didn't call the cops. The cops called him.
Wow, this really is Soviet Russia!
talk about this type of thing (plus the dog shootings) all the time and my friends think I'm nuts.
Do they have internet? If so, just send them a million or so links.
He said Breshears would be charged with abuse of the elderly, resisting arrest, and assault on a police officer.
Sounds more like SUBhumanville.
I doubt he called the police; apparently, any time a call comes in to 911, the coppers roll, because you never know when you might get a chance to thrash some old geezer yelling, "Hurry! She's in there! Help her!"
a new troll! Or are you an old one under a new name?
It barks like a duck.
Hey the lynch mobs thought the cops were corrupt, incompetent and ineffectual too so you guys must be racist! /Chait
A lot of the lynch mobs WERE the cops.
So, they would know, right?
Except for that incident in China. I call four dead abusive "police" a good start.
Has anyone mentioned whether the cops made it home to their families safely?
I'm sure it was touch and go...
Dot or feather?
Wrong.
It's, "Hindoo Indian, or Woo-woo Indian?"
I thought it was "Casino or Call Center"
We're sure it's all on video. That will clear it up.
The only reason for the charges is to block the inevitable false arrest lawsuit. I'll bet the County Attorney has already offered to take a plea to the lowest charge. They can do that but it is UNETHICAL to drop the criminal charges solely in return for waiving the civil lawsuit. The prosecutors have stacked the deck, again.
it is UNETHICAL to drop the criminal charges solely in return for waiving the civil lawsuit.
Should be illegal. Sounds like blackmail to me. Really, no plea deal should ever include having the accused drop a civil suit.
That misses the point. The point is that they can't drop the charges in exchange for dropping the civil suit. So instead they trump up as many criminal charges as they can and offer a plea bargain to "disorderly conduct" or something similar with no jail time.
So risk 20 years in prison or take the no-jail misdemeanor guilty plea. Of course the guilty plea will destroy any civil case you have. But that's just a coincidence.
Except when they realize at the station house that they've got nothing for a case, no probable cause at all. Then it's "sign this promise not to sue and you can go home. Don't want to sign? You do realize we can hold you indefinitely as an 'uncooperative prisoner'..."
They do it all the time. Screw "ethical" they have no ethics.
Sounds liek a very good plan to me dude. Wow.

If any of these individuals that have experienced police brutality were to defend themselves, by either kicking the shit out of them or shooting them, they would go away forever or face the chair (lethal injection, etc).
The police are robots. They get paid no matter what, and never really question their own authorities. There are a few who speak out about the constitutional violations, violations of liberty and so on, but they are severely outnumbered.
They would excel in free market protective services where they are held accountable for their actions. What business would keep a maniac elderly abuser, or murderer employed at their firm? The state/city police have many hot headed folks just like that who are shielded from facing any consequences for their actions. They go on to do it again, and even advance up the ladder where they have more control and influence.
Many take orders from the politicians on down, and obey no matter how much the made up "law", or request violates liberty.
Here's looking forward to a free society, where douchebags that abuse, intimidate, and murder folks will face consequences for their actions.
Can I just say that Reason's squirrels suck?
I tried writing a 4-paragraph, calm, reasoned rebuttal to Tulpa and it got eaten.
But all my knee-jerk pissed off rantings seem to make it thru no problem.
Don't turn your phone sideways, else it deletes what you had written. Sometimes when you go to post, the screen just stays blank and nothing happens. Squirrels are fuzzy and cute, until they delete your stuff, then they're like the bastard in the dryer that steals my socks!!!
Oh wait till I find that mother!!.......oh, sorry INvisible finger...back to feeling bad for you and all....want a cookie or some ice cream?
"Elderly Man Calls 911 to Get Ambulance for Wife, Says Police Beat Him Up Instead"
If he'd have had a dog they could have shot, he would have been fine!
Serves him right.
Very few towns so inappropriately named.
Nice to see Krayewski's talent for selective editing is untarnished by the passage of time. From the article, last sentence before the part Krayewski thought we should know:
"The wife and I were standing about here, that's the window she knocked out. I was standing here holding her hand and she was wavering hollering help," Breshears said.
Whoa, sounds like a backstory that we're not getting details of. Not to mention that when the cops showed up he's holding on to an old woman who is bleeding from her arm and screaming for help.
Then there's this tidbit toward the end of the article:
Breshears says he first started having problems with police at the beginning of the year.
Wow, more backstory! I mean, do you think cops just eavesdrop on 911 ambulance calls hoping to hear of a random senior citizen they can terrorize? More likely they were sent to the seen because of the history of "problems" at that house.
But that's OK, don't trouble yourself with critical thinking. All you need to know is that "Cops are bad, mmkay?" Excellent work again, Krayewski.
Nice to get feedback from LEO on this.
So...there's some backstory that justifies bouncing an 80 year old man off the gravel after HE called 911 to get his wife help?
For the record: "history of problems" means they had to go out to the guy's house twice in the last five years. If those "problems" included any violence by the old man, why didn't the cops bring that up in their defense?
The incessantly suspicious and worst first people should not be trusted with a gun and a badge. No, I don't think he was randomly chosen but was more likely targeted instead based on the problems with piggers.
If the police had been called out to the house before, then that makes their actions even less excusable, doesn't it? Since they would have known that the women had dementia, and also would have known that the male subject (see? cop talk!) was an elderly man, who didn't need to be tackled and then thrown onto the gravel.
But just keep licking the boot that is stomping on your face.
the male subject (see? cop talk!) was an elderly man, who didn't need to be tackled and then thrown onto the gravel.
And you know that how? Elderly men are perfectly capable of violence... I suppose you expect the cops to just throw up their hands and ask pretty please can you stop shoving me Mr. Upstanding Senior Citizen? Have you ever engaged in hand to hand combat? People tend to fall on the ground during combat, gravel or otherwise. This isn't the goddam Matrix.
I suppose you expect the cops to just throw up their hands and ask pretty please can you stop shoving me Mr. Upstanding Senior Citizen?
We'll assume, of course, that the cops were in mortal danger of... shoving. Because certainly a cop's word is worth more than a mere pleb.
Fuck. You.
I suppose you expect the cops to just throw up their hands and ask pretty please can you stop shoving me Mr. Upstanding Senior Citizen?
From the fucking article:
He didn't shove the cop you cock sucking piece of shit. Stop making shit up, asshole.
Have you ever engaged in hand to hand combat?
Have you? Even if the old man had shoved the officer, I wouldn't call an old man shoving me "hand to hand combat." I'd call that a minor scuffle and at best an annoyance. But perhaps I should defer to you, what with your vast knowledge of "hand to hand combat."
Fuck off, you stupid piece of shit asshat troll.
Tulpa (LAOL-VA)|4.23.14 @ 10:17PM|#
"Nice to see Krayewski's talent for selective editing is untarnished by the passage of time."
Well, Tulpa, your ability to expand on innuendo seems to be undiminished also.
Care to tell us what the "trouble" was? Why the cops should beat on some old fart who seems to helping his wife?
I have no idea what the trouble was. It would be nice if the KSPR story didn't leave all those loose ends hanging, and even nicer if Reason didn't snip them off to make the story fit their anti-cop narrative more cleanly. I'm not the one rushing to judgement to decide who's right and who's wrong in this story.
I'm not the one rushing to judgement to decide who's right and who's wrong in this story.
Lol. "TEH POOR COPPERS MIGHT HAVE GOTTEN SHOVED, THAT OLD CUNT IS LUCKY THEY DIDN'T GUN HIM DOWN, BECAUSE THEY HAD EVERY RIGHT TO"
Nah, certainly not you.
Oh, and Tulpa; here's a shovel. Don't want to keep you from digging the hole deeper...
OK, so these cops were just cruising around town eavesdropping on the EMT's dispatches hoping for an opportunity to beat down a random senior citizen. Amazing that we don't have more of these stories then.
We don't even know the content of the 911 call -- was it simply a medical emergency or was it something more sinister?
Amazing that we don't have more of these stories then.
If we had more of these stories Reason would have to rent more rack space to store them all. The fact that you dismiss any story unless the cop was caught on 1080p HD video brutalizing someone for no particular reason, and even then chalk it up to totality of circs, doesn't mean they don't exist.
We don't even know the content of the 911 call -- was it simply a medical emergency or was it something more sinister?
Well obviously it was something more sinister, or else the brave heroes in blue would never have been involved in the first place, right? You've got nothing to fear if you aren't guilty, and the cops never make mistakes or false accusations. So the very presence of the cops is proof enough. That was a fun trial, now let's get to the hanging!
Apparently Tulpa is so clueless, that he doesn't know who takes the 911 calls and handles dispatch.
It's the cops. And in all the times I have called 9-11 for a medical emergency, invariably a police car has been there well before the ambulance gets there.
Tulpidity: (n) the mental state where a moron thinks he's the smartest guy in the room.
You are so full of shit. In most places 911 dispatch is done by separate people from the emergency service personnel (police, fire, emt).
Even assuming that your version of the story is 100% accurate, it still fails to justify why multiple "professionals" who are allegedly the only people trained to the point where they should be allowed to carry firearms, restrain and imprison free people, and use physical force to compel the obedience of free citizens managed to, yet again, fail to accomplish what most bouncers and high school cafeteria monitors (among others) pull off on a fairly routine basis: to whit, the restraint and de-escalation of conflict without harming the other party.
If your highly-trained, golden-haloed public servants can't win a 3 on 1 against an 80-year-old man without curbstomping him, you no longer get to call them professionals.
And what the hell else could the 911 call be, genius? "Hey, so, uh, hypothetically speaking, how much arsenic would I need to use to kill my wife? Operator?"
Yeah, a perfectly natural first reaction on a call from an elderly husband about a woman with fucking DEMENTIA hollering for help is to throw the old guy to the ground, because what other possible conclusion could be reached besides A) the guy is assaulting his wife and B) he's clearly such a threat to 4 presumably able-bodied young cops that he needs to be thrown to the ground, roughed up, and put in hand cuffs forthwith.
God you're a fucking cunt. I hope to god you get the shit beat out of you by a cop one of these days. Preferably after you've gotten the money shot out of him, just to add insult to injury.
He keeps glossing over the fact that these fuckers are being paid as professionals in the use of judgement and force to prevent harm and resolve conflicts. And they're proud of it, and the risk that goes with putting themselves in dangerous situations. EXCEPT, as soon as there's the possibility of any ACTUAL risk, out come the nightsticks, out comes the Glock.
I mean, shit, if I was walking around and some old man shoved me, sure, I might shove him back. I might even hit him. Guess what? I'm not being paid to enforce laws or "keep the peace", and I'm not afforded any special privileges to do so. If three of you can't handle subduing a rowdy old man without looking like a bunch of goons, hand over the fucking guns before someone really gets hurt.
Up to your old post as one troll and then switch back to your normal handle, eh asshole?
police are repulsive.
What a nice thing to say! 🙂
I was thinking, "Police are an abomination to rational humans, and should be treated as such at every opportunity. If they don't survive the treatment - who cares?"
I hope the retarded mayor of Humansville chokes on the police chief's dick.
Just SOP, folks. Nothing to see here.
Good to see Tulpa hasn't stopped being a piece of shit.
I wonder how many other handles on this thread are him?

Such a awesome post mostly all the information are unique thanks for sharing
almost time for a few cops to have "accidents". sucks when you work in such a dangerous field, "accidents" are bound to happen.

Nice post admin i am impress with the feedback of this post.
