De Blasio Finds New Way to Screw Over New York City Minorities
Charter schools under fire
Out: Forcing minorities to endure humiliating, pointless stop-and-frisk treatment from New York City cops. In: Destroying minorities' public education opportunities by killing charter schools.
Have we already hit the "Miss me yet?" reformation stage of nanny jerk ex-mayor Michael Bloomberg? Perhaps among education reformists. Bloomberg may have been down on letting New Yorkers make choices about how much soda to drink, but he was a fan of school choice and charter schools.
Bill de Blasio is not so big of a fan. Toward the end of last week, de Blasio announced the city would not allow three new charter schools to share space with public school buildings. The agreements were backed by Bloomberg toward the end of his administration, but de Blasio isn't having it. From Fox News:
While dozens of charter schools' deals with the city remain unaffected, the four affected schools had already hired principals and teachers, and were in the process of recruiting pupils. In addition to the Harlem school, the move leaves in the cold two affiliated schools run by the nonprofit Success Academy Charter Schools, headed by de Blasio's former City Council colleague Eva Moskowitz.
"Explaining to students and families that they won't have a school next year is the most heartbreaking thing I've done at Success Academies," Moskowitz said in a statement. "No parent should have to go through this."
Charter schools do get a share of tax money to operate, but they don't get public funds to pay for locations or facilities. Thus, this sharing (or sometimes full school takeovers) is a way for charter schools to keep costs down, which helps make them more available and accessible to the poor. And the poor are the customers for these schools. Moskowitz isn't running some fly-by-night charter operation, either. Her Success Academy schools do well. New York Daily News notes:
Success Academy 4 children are 97% black and Hispanic. More than three quarters are poor enough to qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Even so, a stunning 96% of the school's kids passed the tough new state math exam. Fifty three percent passed the English exam — putting them in the top tier of all schools across the state. …
At nearby PS 76, 8% of kids passed their state math tests, and 6% in English. At nearby PS 149, 3% of kids passed in math, and 7% in English. At nearby Frederick Douglass 2, 3% of kids passed in math, and 9% in English.
De Blasio's attitude toward charter schools may make him the darling of the United Federation of Teachers, but it's putting him at odds with a growing number of Democratic leaders, including President Barack Obama, who praised a Harlem charter school in a recent speech promoting so-called "Promise Zones" for poor communities.
There's a well-publicized rift in the Republican Party on how they should approach social issues and pork-filled defense spending. But there's a much less publicized rift in the Democratic Party about charter schools, which despite what detractors connected to education unions say, are growing more and more popular among the parts of the Democratic base that don't work for the government (and even among some who do). The fight may not have broken the party open wide like what we're seeing among Republicans because the battles are taking place on the state and local levels. It's definitely a conflict to watch, though, as charter school popularity continues to grow.

The people who actually bother to vote in NYC voted overwhelmingly for this idiot, so it’s hard to work up a lot of sympathy here. It’s not like De Blasio made any secret of his agenda.
The key there is ‘the people who actually bother to vote in NYC.’ Only 24% of registered voters voted in that election. A quarter of them voted for someone other than De Blasio, so that means 18% of voters chose the guy.
I knew you were Epi’s sock puppet!
18% of voters chose the guy
You’re right of course, which is why I phrased it the way I did.
Sure. I just think it is funny that someone like De Blasio will point to his winning 75% of the vote as a landslide mandate without mentioning that he took power with the consent of 18% of registered voters. The press focuses on the first number, not the second, because they might have to explore how alienated most people feel from out political and governmental systems.
To be fair, it was obvious that he was going to win the general election, so not voting may not indicate alienation.
He only got 280,000 votes in the Democratic primary. Not voting doesn’t guarantee alienation, but there’s little evidence to suggest some sort of a mandate among the total population.
The people who didn’t vote are also at fault for not voting for someone else.
He could just as well cite both figures, because eligible non-voters skip voting because they’re satisfied. He could add them to his cited mandate.
They got the mayor deserve, but not the mayor they need right now.
Unfortunately the 82% of NYers who didn’t vote for him also got the mayor that the shitheels who did deserve.
“They got the mayor deserve, but not the mayor they need right now.”
Will the police chase him with dogs?
Equally relevant, only 8% of registered voters chose against de Blasio.
Choosing not to decide is still making a choice, to paraphrase the band. In this case, 76% of registered voters and unregistered eligible-to-vote persons deferred their choice to others.
No election should be counted as valid unless a candidate has over 50% of actual voters, not just people who bothered to show up. If this leaves seats unfilled, so be it.
There are lots of chewy Rollos in a roll for you
If you’re choosy ’bout what you chew
Real milk chocolate and caramel, too.
To chew-chew, chew-chew, chew-chew chew.
Yet 100% of commenters know that Tulpa is a sockpuppeting, lying scumbag. You had basically no integrity before Tulpy-Poo, but now you have none. It’s gone. You blew it. No one gives a fuck what you say now, Rollo.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I thought Rollo was the dude from the Vikings TV show?
Isnt not voting the same as saying I dont want either (or more, if more than two candidates) or these fuckers?
Rollo, you do realize that what little respect anyone here had for you completely vanished last night?
No he does not. That’s the point. He’s a sociopath. He cannot understand why what he did was wrong.
I have a strong suspicion that the squirrel population near Tulpa’s house is frequently decimated, along with any stray cats.
He just wanted to see what was inside them.
This is indefensible. The way I see it the only reason to oppose charter schools is because if education exists in a competitive environment, failure will not be tolerated. The public school teachers and administrators in failed schools can see that charter schools will expose their ineptitude. Rather than accept their failure and try to make changes they scream and whine to hold onto their shitpile fiefdom.
School choice is a no-brainer. That is, you only oppose it if you have no brain.
Rather than accept their failure and try to make changes they scream and whine to hold onto their shitpile fiefdom.
Well, yeah. That’s government in a nutshell.
That is, you only oppose it if you have no brain a compelling financial and political interest.
Fuck these people slowly with a chainsaw.
Well, yeah. The reason leftists think that libertarians only act out of greed and petty self interest is because that’s how they approach the world. They’re acting out of greed, but they’re doing it for the “right” reasons (schools).
Leftists don’t think. The emote.
I’m an ex-US Navy rescue swimmer, I will be waiting for it to sink its when I work best
Jobs created or saved FTW!
The main argument I hear is that it will undermine and sink the public schools, and they are needed because if government did not educate the poorest and most difficult children then their chances of opportunity would be even lower than they currently are. It is the same logic they point to when they argue against means testing certain benefits even though they usually are out to get wealthier people.
Charter schools ARE public schools.
So even if every public school closed and they were all replaced by charter schools, we would still have…a public school system.
How does that square with this quote from the article: “Charter schools do get a share of tax money to operate, but they don’t get public funds to pay for locations or facilities.”?
“share of tax money to operate”
That makes it a public school…well, a state-funded school. “Public” is a broken word at this point.
Well, read my initial comment, which was I am not sold on the idea of government taking money and ‘contracting out’ to ‘private’ companies to perform ‘government functions.’ Does a construction company that builds a government road on contract become a public company? To some extent maybe.
Again, my point was that the government should not be involved in anything the market could handle, and that includes not being involved by taking money and contracting out to private institutions.
I’m not totally convinced that school choice is a ‘no-brainer”; I think private and charter schools will tend to do better for the same reason that experimental schools of the early 20th Century tended to do better; their student bodies are self-selecting samples. That being the case, some thought needs to be taken about what do do when A) The public schools are loft with the students who have no interest in education and B) the process of opting out of the public schools has become so easy that the self-selecting-sample effect is no longer apparent.
That said, screw De Blasio AND the Teachers’ Union Horse he rode in on.
Ending compulsory schooling would be a start. If parents don’t care about their kids’ education (and I’m taking a broad view, including trade learning and apprenticeships) then they can figure out what to do with them during the weekdays.
Well said sir
Might as well do away with labor laws! Put those rats to work!
Tulpy-Poo, this would be far more compelling if you posted it under a handle that wasn’t a known pathological liar and delusional nutcase. Hey, are you a Professor of Sockpuppetry?
Well, I can only speak for myself. And as an educated adult with no children I don’t really have a stake in this. The choice that is a no-brainer for me is between allowing those who want success to have pathways to it versus condemning everyone to the same failed school. To get to this choice you have to accept that the failed schools are not going to magically turn around with more funding or new standards. There will always be engaged and disengaged parents. I just want the engaged parents to have a fighting chance regardless of income.
Take that, you cherry-picking one per centers!
Damn teabagging kochsucking rethuglican De Blasio. When will people learn to stop electing libertarian racists to high office?
Yeah who the hell was Jim Lahota anyways
It’s usually Dems in executive branch positions, like mayors, which makes De Blasio’s reversal so noticeable.
This is the same Obama who shut down DC’s voucher system, forcing the poor onto their failed public schools..
At nearby PS 76, 8% of kids passed their state math tests, and 6% in English. At nearby PS 149, 3% of kids passed in math, and 7% in English. At nearby Frederick Douglass 2, 3% of kids passed in math, and 9% in English.
Obviously, these noble educators need more resources, and higher pay.
STRIKE! STRIKE! STRIKE!
Did you mean SHRIKE! SHRIKE! SHRIKE! Their scores are in the Shrike zone.
8%?
They should remove Frederick Douglass’ name from that school Why sully a good man’s name when you can properly honor a low-principled asswipe who yearns for control. Somebody, like say, Bill De Blasio.
They can’t have their Brave New World without a steady supply of Gammas, Deltas, and Epsilons.
Was anybody else shocked by this: “96% of the school’s kids passed the tough new state math exam” in a student body of 97% black and Hispanic students (keeping in mind they were almost all from poor families). Shouldn’t that kind of thing be reaching national headlines????????????? (I hope the many questions marks accurately express my dismay).
Well, in contrast to the 8% of the adjacent facilities, it does raise an eyebrow.
Which is why the charter schools must be shut down.
The department of education isnt about learning useful stuff, its about forcing re-education. thus any success of Non government operating schools is not to be talked about… thats why the FCC needs to be in the news room to make sure we get all our facts straight
Shouldn’t that kind of thing be reaching national headlines?
You expect the mainstream media to champion an example of privatization that makes teacher’s unions and public schools look bad?
Here is my issue with charter schools: what is the difference between the state taking my tax money and giving it to a private educational institution to perform what is seen as a governmental function and what happened in Kelo v. City of New England, where the state took that woman’s property to give it to a private development company to perform what was seen as a governmental function?
The state just should not be in the business of things the market can provide, period, and that includes contracting it out to private institutions.
As long as the government is going to be taking peoples’ property to pay for primary education anyway, I would greatly prefer giving the parents have control over where funding goes and how their kids are taught to giving that control to some petty bureaucrats.
But how can parents possibly know what’s best for their children? Do they have the right college degrees? These bureaucrats do! And they’re really smart! So obviously the bureaucrats know what’s best!
You broke my sarcasm detector.
Do you know how hard it is to get spare parts for a model 82 sarcasm detector?
The 82’s were always junk. I have the SarcMaster 3500. I got it 4 years ago off Ebay, and it has never given me trouble. Time for an upgrade.
Incompatable with my brain architecture.
You’re worse than Rollo.
Dude, stop hitting yourself.
*applause*
And here is where I part company with Libertarianism; the history of educating the “Lower Orders” is far from clear on whether a non-state solution will be generally available. And I would rather live in a society where children are taught to read., thanks.
There are some prominent libertarians and classical liberals who have defended government roles in education, but I think there would always be a YMCA or Catholic Church which would offer educational opportunities to willing parents/children who could not afford an education in a free market (unencumbered and not skewed by government interference).
I would rather live in a society where children are taught to read
The puritans were hyper-into making sure their children could read. When your in a non-hierarchical church, everyone has to be able to read the bible.
So taxation and crowding out private options are legitimate when “it’s far from clear” that non-compulsory solutions will satisfy the demand? I’d raise that bar a little bit.
Its a [SLD] issue.
Of course they shouldnt be doing it at all, or even giving vouchers. But charter schools are better than the current model. Vouchers is better than both of those. And not doing anything is better than vouchers.
If we step up the continuum of freedom, its an improvement.
OK, apply that logic to Kelo. Is it step up on the continuum of freedom (after all, they could have done the taken and built a publicly owned industrial park for development rather than give it to a private organization)?
Kelo was a blatant disregard of the constitution.
It was wrongly decided without even considering libertarianism at all.
And that is a horrible analogy.
We currently have public schools so a move to charter schools is a step (small) in the right direction.
Kelo owned a private home. It was already 100% in the right direction. Any taking was a backwards move on freedom.
The proper analogy would be turning a federal park into an industrial park.
Takings are currently an arrow in the government’s quiver against property rights of individuals. My analogy asks, wouldn’t it be better for liberty IF a taking is going to occur for that taking to be contracted out to a private organization than being used for the creation and operation of a public one? What many got upset about the most regarding Kelo was that the taking was not put to a ‘public use’ but was given to a private party. Well, with publicly subsidized or funded charter schools there is a taking of our tax money which, rather than being used for a purely public use is given to a third party to achieve a public purpose.
Again, my answer is there should be no takings or government role in education at all, but that in both cases (Kelo and these charter schools) taking and giving to private organizations is going on.
What many got upset about the most regarding Kelo was that the taking was not put to a ‘public use’ but was given to a private party.
Thats because that is what the constitution fucking says. Of course, the constitution grants the FEDS nothing wrt education, but this isnt a federal issue we are discussing.
I disagree, because while I oppose ED in general, I can see it as a legitimate* tool for a minarchy. So, actually, using it for private entities is actually WORSE on the continuum of liberty scale.
*ignoring my argument that it is impossible due to FMV.
But wait a second, in previous conversations about same sex marriage recognition you said you take the position that the option with smaller government is the better one. Between a state taking a property and turning it into a state run thing and a state taking a property and giving it to a privately run organization, is not the former the smaller government option? I mean, apart from what the Constitution says, under your principle it seems the latter, which was the Kelo situation, would have to be preferred.
Im a minarchist, not an anarchist, so obviously there are times I support larger government. Duh.
Just not when it might end government discrimination, eh?
I mean, in the discussion on same sex marriage you had with me and NeoLiberal, you said you opposed extending marriage recognition to gay couples because it would make government bigger. If you had some other reason for opposing it I do not remember you mentioning it then.
Well, between a government that takes and puts the taking to a government operated use and one that takes and cedes the property to a private organization it seems clear the former results in bigger government.
Kelo did not give property to a private firm to perform a “state function.” It did so to get more tax revenue.
So concludes the Tulpa handle’s tenure on the board.
I wonder how long it will be before another opinionated, so-totally- not-related poster claiming to be a perfesser or law student appears to stir the pot.
I love that Epi IMMEDIATELY recognized and called out the sockpuppetry.
Tell me how else you’re going to get that perspective on H+R?
That’s Tony’s job I should think. Why are you trying to take his job?
Tony and shriek have the authoritarian perspective well-represented.
There are few here on the right that can handle it on quite a few issues too.
Ironically, Tulpa is one of them.
I don’t think you appreciate the diversity found among authoritarians.
Let’s run a 5 year experiment, to find out how we do without it.
So much for the solution to bad speech being more speech.
Your solution to bad speech is even more ridiculous and bad speech, spoken by figment of your stunted imagination.
Piss off to the nether regions, sock boy.
Did you catch that he’s trolling the board this way because he hates us? DELICIOUS.
He never got over that pantsing the unpopular girls gave him, at recess in the 4th grade.
If you get what you want, you’ll never learn.
You hear that, JW? He’s here to help us. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
He clearly heard the cries for help that no one made.
We should call him Lifesaver.
I do not think you are being criticized for playing devil’s advocate or offering the view of contrary philosophies, you are being criticized for feeling the need to create an entire different persona with backstory to do so. I often offer a devil’s advocate, but I do so by just saying ‘I think what ___ say is this…’
As annoying as you can be at times, you do just play devil’s advocate. You don’t degenerate into ad hom attacks, or insults. “Rollo” offered nothing to the threads. And no, Tulpa, “Rollo” didn’t offer a different viewpoint.
Bo’s pedantry and lack of html formatting gets a bit annoying sometimes, but as far as I can see he is consistent and honest in what he argues and a principled libertarian. Comparing him to Tulpa (especially after recent events adn consistent delusions of grandeur) isn’t very fair.
You’re making more of this than there is. Rollo’s “backstory” consisted of one adverbial phrase IDing his occupation, and lasted all of one thread and three hours.
The “Rollo” handle has appeared before, Tulpy-Pathological Liar. The great thing about pathological liars is, even when people know they’re one, they still can’t stop.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh god this is too much fun. You are pathetic beyond anything I could have ever thought possible.
Yes, this is totally the first time you tried to “educate” us in this manner. Uh-huh.
You’re just a liar. A worthless liar.
Oh, he’s not entirely worthless. For example, we’ve been laughing hysterically at him all last night and this morning. That’s worth something, right?
Oh, I think we’re going to be laughing hysterically for a lot longer than that.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
“That’s worth something, right?”
Last night I almost spilled my soup laughing at the asshole, so… Maybe?
Starting right now.
*clicks stopwatch*
Trying to squelch speech is so libertarian. Nice bedfellows you’re keeping:
Did they have a one-seat lunch table reserved for you in the corner of the cafeteria, just so the other kids didn’t have to put up with your sniveling about eating alone?
I encourage you to say whatever the fuck you want. Just don’t do it here.
Whining about us suppressing speech is always the first move for trolls when they get called out.
It’s nice that you keep proving yourself the piece of shit I’ve always thought you were. Come on, give us some more ammo by whining about being caught trolling.
Calling people out, arguing against people, insulting people etc. is not squelching free speech.
Telling people to “leave and never come back” on the other hand, reveals certain underlying attitudes that are not entirely speech-positive.
You are completely fucking delusional. This is AWESOME. Tulpy-Poo, you’re the worst sockpuppet EVER.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Telling people to “leave and never come back” on the other hand, reveals certain underlying attitudes that are not entirely speech-positive.
Talk about no getting it.
These certain underlying attitudes are a general dislike of dishonest people who argue in bad faith.
People like you.
It’s not so much your perspective that people dislike, it’s you as a person.
No one likes you.
No one.
At.
All.
Please take that personally.
I refuse to be called “speech-negative” is some guy is shouting to the point of disruption to the other patrons. Especially if he’s acting like a schizophrenic street preacher.
Countering the prevailing view is now “disruption”. Congratulations on the echo chamber.
So, NK, if Rollo had been real, would his presence have constituted “disruption” too?
Tulpa,
The principle of intellectual charity only applies to sincere statements.
Since it’s utterly clear now that you have always been deliberately trolling (in all of your manifestations) the principle doesn’t apply to you any more.
It’s not “speech-negative” because in an important sense you’ve never spoken.
As always, I’m on Team Fluffy*
* with the exception of the Zimmerman thing.
Your papal-esque pronouncements are always fun, Fluffy. So I’ve never spoken. OK, whatever.
The slowpiopath doesn’t get it, Fluffy. You might have to use smaller words, or maybe do a pantomime with some…sockpuppets?
The slowpiopath doesn’t get it
No, it gets it. It’s just lying. As usual.
No libertarians are arguing that armed goons paid by tax dollars should come and throw you in a dark hole because what you’re saying is objectionable or dishonest. But I never caught anything in the manual that said libertarians have to listen to you, or not tell you to go fuck off. Sorry, freedom of speech doesn’t imply a guarantee of respect.
Why would we want the perspective of someone so retarded they can’t conceive of simply collecting things?
Why would we want someone so retarded that he’s Tulpa?
Did he think that was a clever turn of logic, or something?
Really? You get outed as a serial pathological liar, and you’re “offering perspective”? You think that shit is gonna fly?!?
If I was in your situation (and I never will be because I’m not a fuckin’ idiot), I would have already drafted a heartfelt apology, particularly for wasting the time of so many people .
I don’t think you get it. You’re as bad as Mary. Perspective, my ass.
It takes a pair to come back with the same handle after last night, much less to justify the behavior. With that kind of talent for self justification, Red Bo might do well running for office.
Boy, you seem mighty intent on talking to me today ‘Knarf.’
If it were me against Obama, who would you vote for?
Depends, are we deciding who to sacrifice to appease the volcano gods?
Can we just make a sandbox for Tulpa and Bo to play together? There they can solve the world’s philosophical and moral problems for us and stop cluttering up the forums with blank spaces.
What sandbox will you be in ‘Knarf?’
You can each bring a pair of socks so that neither of you gets too lonely.
Bo can get annoying at times, but he’s not as bad or mendacious as Tulpa
They’re the same fucking person.
I imagine SIV is totally one person. Who could create such a caricature of a whiny, trolly, paleo?
As to ‘Knarf,’ I could be wrong but I seem to recall him actually entering the comments after I started less than a year ago, but his comments certainly indicate a longer period of being present, so what does that say?
It would be an impressive thing to be less mendacious than Tulpa. Based on the nuttiness of this morning, I wouldn’t put it past him to have multiple, years-old, regular handles.
With Bo, it’s the sloppy Socratic questioning, appeals to undeserved moral authority, and attempts to undermine arguments by exposing some unexposed psychological bias. Bo wants to be intellectually slippery, but he’s not good at it, and the result is that he intrudes in serious political arguments like they’re debate topics for a JC forensics team.
*more mendancious
Yes. Exactly. Bo is an annoying kid, Tulpa is a serial killer.
Knarf Yenrab, the bringer of serious political arguments?
Would it have been any less of a waste of time arguing with a real drug warrior on the Internet?
Lots of people here post jokes and strawmen under aliases. You guys are throwing a tantrum because it’s me, not because of the alias.
Would it have been any less of a waste of time arguing with a real drug warrior on the Internet?
Seriously? Of course it would be less of a waste of time because the drug warrior is, you know, real.
You were intentionally being disruptive. I know it, you know it, and everyone else here knows it.
The point is that arguing with such a person would have no better outcome than arguing with a fake person. As it is, we had a lively and thoughtful discussion on the part of anti-WOD posters, that never would have happened if the whole thread consisted of people just “me too” -ing the anti-WOD post. If you consider that a disruption, perhaps you need to rethink your purposes here.
See, he was doing us a favor by lying to us.
A favor.
Are you a Thermian or something?
This is like, textbook sociopath. Justification of all actions, no matter how repulsive or mendacious. Thanks for reaffirming that you’re a completely disgusting “human” being, Tulpy-Rollo.
“I enjoy poking Bo and his fellow war apologists now and then”
Now I know you are trolling, as I have opposed every military action discussed here, and that can not be said for a lot of people here.
Nice try, ‘Knarf.’
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Hey guys, the pinata’s here!
Yeah, but look what it is filled with…ewww!
+1.
And it is getting everywhere.
It makes sense, though. The thing that Tulpa has always feared is having his own stupid posts thrown back into his face. With a bunch of fake handles he gets to derp to his heart’s content and never get called on it. He’s probably been doing it for years.
Of course, all this is preserve a “persona” that everyone regards as a complete joke and a dishonest, hateful, twisted little creep. The idea that he serves a purpose for the board other than an object lesson in uselessness is the height of delusional egotism.
I liked Joe. And I like Tulpa for the same reasons I liked Joe. There I said it.
Must the rest of us have to watch you fingerfuck your way around the short bus, though?
So…you’re retarded?
Well, I do like cake.
I liked Joe. And I like Tulpa for the same reasons I liked Joe.
Now THAT hurts.
I liked Joe. And I like Tulpa for the same reasons I liked Joe.
Now THAT hurts.
I’m a little late to this conversation. Did Tulpa get outed as a troll with another name?
I think so, but I didn’t see it happen.
Oh yes, yes he did.
The Incident
I used an alias for three hours claiming to be a drug warrior. Apparently that’s equivalent to Maryism.
You’ve used that handle before, Tulpathological Liar. You are already busted for that, you insane fuck. But you just. Keep. Digging.
You’re not only sociopathic, you’re incredibly fucking stupid too. That’s got to sting.
There’s no evidence that’s the same Rollo.
There’s no evidence that you’re not completely fucking sociopathic and insane. You do realize that anyone with a shred of integrity would have realized they got caught and run off in shame? But not you. No, you show your sociopathic colors in all their glory by absolutely refusing to even admit you did something.
YOU GOT CAUGHT, INEPT FOOL. You aren’t living this down. YOU’RE FUCKED. The more you struggle against it, the more sociopathic you are.
The best part is that you are too fucking stupid to realize that the more you struggle, the more disgusting you look.
Who died and appointed you chief inquisitor?
They’re all you, then. Failure to answer is an admission.
There’s no evidence that’s the same Rollo.
How did you get control of an already registered handle? Idiot.
Your denials are even worse than the original sock puppeting (read: lying).
You are truly fucked in the head.
Never tried it, but presumably if someone changes their name, the old name becomes available for a new registrant.
Now you’re just insulting our intelligence.
Now you’re just insulting our intelligence.
Only now?

The federal government is tasked with handling foreign relations and interstate commerce. You can’t expect it to provide affordable care in every state with no help, and in many cases militant resistance from the state government.
The principle of subsidiarity works best when the states help to implement the laws that we as a nation agree on, for their own particular circumstances. The states are supposed to be lavatories of democracy. That doesn’t work when some states elect nullificatory anarchists to their high offices.

No, IOC keeps anyone other than approved broadcasters from filming the events. Americans caught filming the events and posting them to YouTube are delivered to the local mafia for some old-fashioned reeducation.

Here’s a thought from a non-American who never usually gets involved here.
Looking at the vitriol and contempt vented in these comments, is it any surprise that your Congresspeople are of low quality? Would you want to soak all that up every day?
Good, effective people are going to go elsewhere. You get the Congress you deserve.
Wow, that August 2009 one is definitely, definitely Tulpa. 100% for sure.
Rollo|10.5.13 @ 5:49PM|#|?|filternamelinkcustom
The desire to keep working could be instilled by appealing to the patriotic spirit. Everyone just has to keep doing the work they’re doing now. The only reason they would stop would be because they want America to fail.
If that’s not enough, there are more regrettable ways of nurturing the desire to keep working. Hopefully they wouldn’t be needed.
Tulpa: I’m not a scokpuppeter! Wah!
Holy shit, is that him arguing with himself?
Holy shit, is that him arguing with himself?
Hits all the highlights: Perspective, the value of the outsider’s insight, echo chamber, the finger-wagging that this board is all part of the problem, the hatred of glibness because arguing on the internet is very serious business.
Now think about how many one-off or occasional handles you see around here that make the same exact arguments… How about snide little Winston always sarcastically wondering if this is the “libertarian moment” or the little assholes that are always obsessed with going after regulars that we never see again?
Winston was always a suspect, I admit.
I know it’s late enough that no one will ever see this, but the dronkness compels me to comment – holy fuck.
The things I miss on a couple of weeks of intermittent Reason comment section reading – Tulpa outed by his own dumbassedry, followed by complete obliviousness to the patheticry of it all. Magicstry.
He does that all the time. See Bo vs. Tulpa.
Nothing is better than people who talk to their own sockpuppets. It’s the internet equivalent of acting out a pantomime using your creepy doll collection of your mommy beating you because you spilled the milk.
I created the Rollo account last year, so those things from 2009 and 2010 are definitely not me.
I simply do not believe you. That 2009 one is the most Tulpa thing I’ve ever read. You’re *always* going on about vitriol and culture and how it gets reflected in public institutions.
I do use the word “vitriol”, yes. So do a lot of people in the world, seeing as how it is a word describing a common phenomenon and stuff.
Believe what you want. It’s clear you guys are going to blow this out of proportion regardless because it’s me, so there’s no point arguing about it anymore.
Even assuming you deny the 2009-2010, that’s an implicit admission the rest are yours.
Where do you practice law, Saudi Arabia?
It’s not the law, troll, it’s common sense. I don’t need legal standards to know what it means when you say, “oh well, those 2009 and 2010 ‘Rollo’ comments definitely aren’t mine, ’cause I registered ‘Rollo’ in 2013.” That means that all the others, at least, are YOURS, because nature gave me a brain and the ability to use it, shitheel.
Tulpy-Poo, you’re too stupid to get this, so let me spell it out for you.
You got caught lying. No one cares what you say you did with that handle, or anything else. You are a liar. Nothing you say is credible. You’re done. You’re fucked. No one cares any more.
You are a liar, and have no credibility…on anything. That’s what getting caught being a liar means. You need to get this through your sociopathic head, you blithering nutcase.
I wasn’t lying, I was playing a part.
Is your name really Episiarch?
Shut the fuck up, Mary.
Holy fuck you’re a sociopath. You really don’t get building up credibility, do you? You really are that stupid and insane.
Your handle is your “brand”, you inept fool. My real name is irrelevant, you blithering idiot. You’re so stupid it’s stunning. I have my brand. If I got caught sockpuppeting or lying, I will have sullied that brand, and as a non-sociopath, I would accept that I had fucked up and among humans, your credibility, or “brand”, mean something.
You blew yours, moron. You were that stupid. So not only are you an emotionally stunted sociopath and a moral idiot, you’re too stupid to keep your brand (as terrible as it was).
The fact that you don’t get this says so much more about you than you realize. It’s hilarious.
Why would someone go on the internet and tell lies?
Long ago, I made the commitment to never interact with Tulpa again.
We would all be better off if we shunned him. Except for warning newbies about him by occasionally replying to him with a caution about his crimes and the punishment he should have.
Make the comments section a wasteland to him.
Me too, something like three years ago. That was around the time he switched from being an annoying asshole to a full-time troll. And now he’s gone completely off the deep end into griefer territory. This would be sad if it weren’t so hilarious.
Long ago, I made the commitment to never interact with Tulpa again.
I agree in principle, but it requires 100% compliance to be effective. Somebody always takes the bait (including me).
OK, at the risk of ‘living up to type’ I am going to have be contrarian on the whole “burn Tulpa/Rollo at the stake for ‘wasting our time'” thing.
I think it is pretty odd behavior to create a backstory and different personas in order to argue a point of view, rather than just saying ‘here is what I think is a contrary view worth thinking about.’ So while some of this is over the top high school type whooping it up over this, I get it.
And I can see the idea of ‘wasting time’ in a very literal sense, in that he literally did not believe the arguments he was engaging in. But really, who is not ‘wasting time’ on here? Even if we ignore the fact that there are clearly several posters here who misrepresent what they believe to some extent and who they are or how many handles they may have, even those who are being completely consistent and honest are not solving the world’s problems or furthering our careers or anything here. We are literally all ‘wasting time’ because we enjoy political or cultural debate, or for some having some sense of community online.
So like I said, I get this is the culmination of a long inter-community feud here, but this kind of thing gets old fast too.
Well said Bo, but now they’re just going to say you’re another sockpuppet.
I have always said that Bo is a sockpuppet.
Bo is Tony.
You really think Tony can tone down his smarminess enough to produce Bo. Well, then again. This damn place is turning me to solipsism.
“Bo is Tony.”
Whatever, I have been called a sockpuppet of everyone from Tony to Episiarch to Tulpa. Not everything is a snake eating its own tail, you know.
No one said you were a sockpuppet of Tulpa, I dont think. You were called Blue Tulpa, but that is different.
Calidissident|3.3.14 @ 12:54PM|#
Bo can get annoying at times, but he’s not as bad or mendacious as Tulpa
reply to this
SIV|3.3.14 @ 1:06PM|#
They’re the same fucking person.
reply to this
I guess I will give you some ‘props’ in thinking my comment well said considering a fair amount of it was about how pretty odd your behavior was…
Bo, the problem is that we keep having to ‘regress’ to refute utter nonsense on a regular basis instead of tackling issues where we actually disagree. For example, in a troll-free environment, robc and I had a contentious debate about whether a sign in front of a property is sufficient to have induced the entrant to have consented to the conditions on the sign. That’s the sort of margins we need to be pushing here, not re-educating “Rollo” and “Tony” and all the other shitbreaks over and over and over and over and over again.
I’m unclear on how the presence of a non-libertarian opinion keeps you from having debates with other libertarians on smaller issues.
Maybe you can get one of your socks to come agree with you on that point.
You’re also unclear on how integrity works.
Maybe you didn’t get the memo the first 100 times, Tulpathetic. You blew all your credibility. You’re done. You fucked up, sociopath. Anyone who wasn’t certifiable would walk away. But not you. You know what that means, right, sociopath?
“For example, in a troll-free environment, robc and I had a contentious debate about whether a sign in front of a property is sufficient to have induced the entrant to have consented to the conditions on the sign.”
I had the same debate with him.
You also had one with him on same sex marriage that I remember because I was a part of it.
I get what you are saying, but I guess I see the forum as a place for more general debate and not that we have any place to ‘get to’ that such ‘regressions’ get in the way. Sometimes it is useful to debate or watch a debate between someone you agree with and someone you do not. You learn what other possible arguments are and how people address them.
But hey, again, this is obviously the culmination of a lot of frustrated years, I want little part of that so having said my bit I will let others have theirs.
Like I said, it’s just annoying to learn that instead of authentically engaging with people, we’ve been participating in someone’s masturbathon.
I see the forum as a place for more general debate
Werent you the one bitching yesterday about us debating sports teams and other stuff like that?
Make up your mind.
A place can be about ‘general debate’ without being, as one commenter said recently, people’s personal Facebook pages.
Those of us who dont use Facebook need some outlet.
I don’t think you’re doing a very good job delineating the distinction.
Waste was perhaps a poor choice of words. I guess I meant that debating even against insincere people is not really a waste if they are presenting a viewpoint one is likely to encounter sincerely elsewhere. I do not know why someone would pretend to be multiple people and not just say ‘hey, this is not the libertarian view, but what it says is ___.” Hopefully there would be no excommunications.
I do not know why someone would pretend to be multiple people and not just say ‘hey, this is not the libertarian view, but what it says is ___.”
People debate more strongly and sincerely when there’s an actual adversary on the other side.
Into the filter.
Into the filter.
Yep. As rob noted below, so not worth it.
People debate more strongly and sincerely when there’s an actual adversary on the other side.
The cluelessness and un-self-awareness of this statement is beyond imagination. You really are the slowpiopath; the short bus sociopath.

Bo, in addition NK said, to what it’s Tulpa’s dishonesty and mendacity (over the course of years) that pisses people off the most
Bo,
Tulpa’s crime isn’t in engaging in sock puppetry. Nor is it in having unpopular authoritarian views.
Rather it lies in the fact that in defense of his incredibly fragile ego, he violates numerous customs that make the board function. And the community is defending those customs by either calling him names or shunning him.
The tedious debates where he shifts goalposts frantically to avoid ‘losing’; abusing interlocutors with what he proclaims is Socratic questioning, but instead of attempting to arrive at truth is intended to harass people till they quit (thereby allowing him to claim he “won” the argument; peevishly abusing those with whom he disagrees; Creating sock puppets whose purpose was to make him appear smarter than he is, or to abuse/denigrate/waste the time of people with whom he disagreed; all of these things were done for his self-aggrandizement.
This was not done for the purpose of humor. It wasn’t done to enlighten – that’s his pathetic attempt post-facto rationalization – they were done to make him feel superior to those around him.
Soem of us got his number many years ago: because to Tulpa, everything that happens in the community has to be for Tulpa. We recognize that he has no place in any community because an institutions that serves the ego of one man is not a community. He has no place in any community, even one that tolerates Warty and Sugarfree’s nauseating fiction.
I considered it last night (and I missed the Rollo thread) but didnt fire. Reasonable is about to take care of that.
Its like with MNG…I went far too long before I incifed him away.
The problem is Tulpa is sometimes right. But its not worth it.
Apparently that’s equivalent to Maryism.
This is a good time to point out that everyone–even MNG, who hated me–accepted the evidence that rather was Mary and that she was griefing and spamming threads under hundreds of handles. But not Tulpa. He defended her to the very last.
But not Tulpa. He defended her to the very last.
This explains a great deal about the YouTube videos.
Does Grylliade know that they’ve been contaminated with Tulpa?
I fervently moved for ZaK’s ban, but they’re too soft over there 🙂
I fervently moved for ZaK’s ban, but they’re too soft over there 🙂
I warned them a long time ago, but they continue to let that plague rat roam the halls. I find it baffling.
This is a little old but here’s more great NYC news:
City says cops had no duty to protect subway hero who subdued killer
FTA: The city routinely settles such litigation but is playing hardball with Lozito, insisting his demand for unspecified money damages be tossed because the police had no “special duty” to protect him or any individual on the train that day.
You have to follow the lawful orders of a police officer who has no legal duty to protect you.
The old “heads I win, tails you lose” gambit.
Police have one duty: to go home safely. That’s it.
Then we no longer need pay them and they can stay home. Call it fiscal readjustment.
I’d be happy if they faced a suit for every crime that they committed.
What, you think their job is to protect and serve or something? Pffft.
It’s just a motto, like “Excelsior” for the state that’s in a nosedive.
Banner with a strange device?
They protect and serve each other.
File under: getting the gubmint you deserve.
If the minority kids get a good education, then they won’t need Affirmative Discrim… errrr… Action. We cannot allow that, it upsets the smooth operation of the plantation.
Tell me how else you’re going to get that perspective on H+R?
DRINK!
a stunning 96% of the school’s kids passed the tough new state math exam. Fifty three percent passed the English exam ? putting them in the top tier of all schools across the state.
Well, that’s it, then. Time to she ‘er down!
What? “she” = “shut” in that last sentence.
*checks meds*
I saw shut too. It’s bizarre. I read the comments quickly too quickly to notice typos. I think it means your brain is working correctly. You’re fine.
I created the Rollo account last year
I thought you said it was only around for 3 hours.
ha.
There’s got to be a pony in there somehwere.
This is like Hit & Run Christmas.
The backstory was only around for 3 hours.
The thing that marks Tulpiopath for the sociopath and pathological liar that he is is that he thinks that if he just lies some more, he can fix this. His solution to getting caught lying is to lie even harder.
Lie more, Tulpy-Poo! We’re sure to believe you then!
Guess I didn’t post fast enough to come before the false accusation of lying.
Just keep proving my point, Tulpiopath. It’s so easy when you do all the work for me. Holy shit are you stupid. Aren’t sociopaths supposed to usually be pretty smart? I guess you’re the dud.
Tulpa, the slow sociopath! He’s a slowpiopath!
This really is Hit n Run christmas.
Yep. Fluffy accuses me of lying, I disprove him, and it doesn’t matter — I’m Tulpa so he was right.
Oh god you so don’t get it.
SQUEE
The only thing more delicious than you getting caught, you mendacious fuck, is that you cannot understand it.
You truly are the slowpiopath. You’re dumber than than I ever thought possible. Hey, tell us some lies about how you’re a professor! That’ll be fun!
You do understand that since you got caught lying, Tulpiopath, that everything you say is now defaulted to a lie, right?
THE BOY WHO CRIED ROLLO
Oh look, he obliged you. That was nice of him.
Got that Epi? You’re the liar!!!!
And before I get falsely accused of lying again, here’s the quote you’re trying to gotcha on:
School choice for the rich only
– De Blasio’s actions
Exactly.
What makes a man turn Tulpical? Lust for tenure? Single mothers? Or was he just born with a heart full of Tulpidity?
Pathological liars cannot help but lie; it’s what they do. Tulpy-Poo has proven countless times since yesterday that he is one. And he’ll continue to do so, because he knows nothing else.
Let’s speculate on what Tulpa really is. I’m going with overweight manga nerd with a mail-order bride.
I just want to point something out. Even Mary, after getting caught out by heller, tucked tail and ran, and burned all her blogs and public-facing accounts.
Think about that. Even Mary had the sense to leave, at least in an obvious way. But not Tulpy-Poo. Again…think about that.
She actually had very intentionally interfered with the basic operations of the blog and was in deep shit.
All I did was post under an alternate name.
And it’s just fun watching you guys writhe in pain about it.
we know Rollo is not the only one, now.
You must purge the infidel from your midst, Inquisitor.
Kizone Kaprow?
He thinks we’re sad!
Even Mary, after getting caught out by heller, tucked tail and ran, and burned all her blogs and public-facing accounts.
But did you see her whiny YouTube video about it? She mentions me and a number of us by handle. She thinks it was all really unfair of us to gang up on her and expose her real identity, merely because she was an obnoxious, verbose, disruptive troll. Sort of like the loud, drunk groper who doesn’t understand why he was ejected from the party.
So kind of like Pants in Eden of the East?
I’m also guessing a disgruntled low level engineer.
And somewhere on the autism spectrum.
Charters are awful. Stop supporting this crony capitalist bullshit.
Charters are less awful than state schools. Which are also crony capitalist bullshit, just crony with the teachers unions instead of the charter operators.
So hey, gu6s, I.was in meetings earlier. What’s going on…
Oh.
Charters are awful.
Say hi to Randi Weingarten for us.
Success Academy 4 children are 97% black and Hispanic. More than three quarters are poor enough to qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
Both true.
Even so, a stunning 96% of the school’s kids passed the tough new state math exam.
Actually 80% in 2013. Testing only 78 of 401 students (19%), possibly invalidating the results.
Fifty three percent passed the English exam ? putting them in the top tier of all schools across the state.
Actually 59%.
At nearby PS 76, 8% of kids passed their state math tests, and 6% in English.
Actually 24% and 11% in 2013. (Testing only 64 of 533 students = 12%).
At nearby PS 149, 3% of kids passed in math, and 7% in English.
Actually 6% and 12% (Testing only 90 of 689 students = 13%).
At nearby Frederick Douglass 2, 3% of kids passed in math, and 9% in English.
Actually 6% and 11% in 2013, and 51% and 37% in 2012*. (Testing 105 of 1549 students=7%) And this is 6th grade, the other schools’ scores were for 3rd grade (the only grade at Success Academy 4).
*All the schools above showed a big drop from 2012 to 2013, indicating they’re faking something besides testing only a small, probably non-random, sample of their students.
Read all about it at greatschools.net.
First step in school reform, fire the politicians.
From a railgun.
Into the sun.
On second thought, not the sun. Their incredible density might cause it to collapse into a black hole.
