Has spent millions already

Billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer, who has spent more than $50 million in politics in recent years to address climate change, is ramping up his campaign to pressure elected officials to take action on global warming.

The first stop: a fundraiser he's hosting Wednesday night for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee at his San Francisco home. Steyer's aides said he will share data from polling he has commissioned about the public's views on the Keystone XL pipeline in key Senate races.

Later this week, Steyer will appear at the Democratic Governors Association in Washington to discuss ways to create regional partnerships among states to reduce greenhouse gases.
