Sen. Reid: Democrats Will Work Towards Extending Unemployment Benefits
Needs support from five Republicans to avoid a filibuster on a plan to extend the benefits for three months
WASHINGTON, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Sunday Democrats will focus on the middle class in 2014 and attempt to extend emergency unemployment benefits.
"It's the right thing to do. We have long-term unemployment. That's why the American people support this -- Democrats, Independents and Republicans," the Nevada senator said on CBS' "Face the Nation."
He said he is supporting a plan that would restart the benefits for three months before determining how to offset the cost of doing so.
The support of five Republicans is necessary to avoid a filibuster.

If you haven't worked in over two years, while collecting government benefit checks, you have forfeit the right to call yourself "middle class".
How long is the government going to extend unemployment, yet another entitlement? Unemployment should last a few months for most people.
What does everyone think the end result of this continued spending is? Does everyone believe it will magically just work out? I've written theories about a future collapse in this country. Based on historical research, all the way back to the philosophy of Cicero. The two commonalities to a collapsed nation are bankrupt economy and bankrupted morals. Put those two items together and the nation falls in the end. We may delay the collapse but it will surely happen.
If we were to take a hard turn and reevaluate everyone on entitlements, including illegal aliens which is the icon of anti reason to begin with, we may have a chance to regain ourselves. If we continue to spend while reducing our morals by supporting the parasites we will never regain ourselves. And then it is just a matter of a catalyst which will begin our demise. At which I firmly believe will be done deliberately as an excuse to take our already eroding freedoms. Economy fails, collapse ensues--riots, mass violence. A scenario where many, especially an amoral Generation X and Y will gladly hand over their freedom for perceived security. I think this not because I'm a sage--but because I read history of other nations that followed the exact same pattern.
