Woman Says She Called 911 for an Ambulance for Her Fiancé, Cops Came and Shot Him Instead
Waycross, Georgia

Jack Lamar Roberson was shot and killed by police in his home on Friday afternoon in Waycross, Georgia. According to local TV station First Coast News, his fiancée Alcia Herron called 911 for an ambulance after becoming worried about diabetes medication Roberson had taken. Cops claim Roberson was brandishing two weapons (not identified by police, though the mayor said he was told it was a knife) and came toward them "aggressively armed". Police also say they were informed Roberson had attempted to commit suicide and was being combative while on their way to his residence. His mother and his fiancée both witnessed the shooting, and their 8-year-old daughter was apparently in the home too.
Roberson's mother said the family didn't own "two decent knives" while his fiancée described the incident to First Coast News:
"He didn't have nothing in his hands at any time or period at all before they came, any time while they were here, anything. They just came in and shot him. He didn't say nothing, the police didn't say nothing, anything, it was like a silent movie. You couldn't hear anything, all you could hear were the gun shots go off and I seen them going into his body and he just fell down," cried Alcia Herron, Roberson's fiance.
Herron told the Florida Times-Union she became afraid for Roberson, believing he may have taken too much diabetes medication, though did not appear to provide more details anywhere. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting and the officers involved are on paid leave.

If you're a cop these days and need a good paid vacation, just respond to a 911 call and shoot someone dead. You're good to go.
When are people going to get tired of this shit?
When their hatred of this shit becomes greater than their love of being a serf and saluting to stars and stripes and getting goose bumps during flyovers at ball games.
*facepalm*
Perfect.
Overheard a SWAT officer talking, very excitedly, about a call his team was on and how they "lit the guy up". He goes on about getting the paid time off post incident and what a great job he has. It was the first time I realized how pumped they get for killing a citizen - scary.
He didn't say nothing, the police didn't say nothing, anything, it was like a silent movie.
There has got to be more to this story. No stop resisting shouts or anything?
I agree. I have no idea what happened, but the story from the family sounds like it's missing something.
This is why cops should be required to wear chest cameras.
I imagine the true story lies somewhere in the middle of the accounts, but we'll never have any idea where it falls exactly.
The only story that matters is the official story. And the official story is almost always that of the police officer, regardless of evidence to the contrary.
Cop says he had a weapon and no weapon is recovered? Cop says he "thought" he had a weapon and made a furtive movement.
And there's no video evidence in the world that can contradict the mindset defense cops routinely use when their story falls apart under even the most minor scrutiny. So face it: you are not afforded equal protection under the law but are subject to physical violence without consequence from those granted a monopoly on violence by the state.
This. The only difference in the laws between police self-defense claims and private citizen self-defense claims are that police can go looking for trouble and still claim self-defense. A private citizen who tracks someone down, picks a fight then shoots the guy is a murderer.
But if a private citizen claims the same mindset defense police do, that he thought the guy was going for a gun he turned out not to have, that citizen's self-defense plea will be denied and he'll go to prison for manslaughter or even second degree murder.
This is not justice.
Bust the unions and merge Internal Affairs with the DEA so they can use Asset Forfeiture on any cop they suspect of being corrupt. If that doesn't work, give I.A. quotas. Your police force will be demoralized, fucked up & retiring in droves, but it could work.
I'm joking, except for the union part.
Man, if I was a cop, it wouldn't be "required to wear" so much as "allowed to wear". I'd never take the damn thing off.
Almost every time I've seen video of an event described by some cop-basher, the video has shown the cop-basher to be a goddamed liar.
""He didn't have nothing in his hands at any time or period at all before they came, any time while they were here, anything. They just came in and shot him. He didn't say nothing, the police didn't say nothing,"
Ummm, according to my double negative translator ring:
"He did have something in his hands"
"He did say something"
"The police said something"
So now basically any time you dial 911, you should expect someone to die?
Public Enemy complained that 911 was a joke. I guess it's more of a tragedy now.
"So now basically any time you dial 911, you should expect someone to die?"
Part of the new health care savings initiative.
yes
did anything else happen?
Paid vacations are real punishments!
(I mean, you'd get upset too if you had to take a few days without being able to bully whoever you wanted without consequences)
In many states, even off-duty cops can still bully people and even make arrests.
Or beat people's car windows in with their motorcycle helmets.
You all are presenting the context all wrong and/or do not have sufficient information to judge the situation.
-Tulphy
Don't make Tulpa come in here six hours later and prove you wrong.
They just came in and shot him. He didn't say nothing, the police didn't say nothing, anything, it was like a silent movie.
IANA psychologist, but this part seems like hysterical deafness or selective amnesia to me.
Christ, could we stop with the nutshots, please? That's 3 in one day.
Possible panic fire?
"BIG SCARY BLACK MAN!!!"
*BLAMBLAMBLAM*
Is there a 911 transcript or audio?
Probably
"Honey, could you stop chopping onions and get the door?"
Holy crap, that's a great way to get rid of somebody.
Roberson's mother said the family didn't own "two decent knives"
Is she suggesting Roberson came at the cops with two indecent knives?
All unsheathed and talking dirty and shit.
cut it out.
Any way you slice it, that was over the line.
Police also say they were informed Roberson had attempted to commit suicide and was being combative while on their way to his residence.
See guys, they had to stop him from hurting himself.
Mission accomplished!
I would put webcams through out my entire house, but it probably wouldn't matter because I would still be dead.
And if a cop notices them, the video recording will "mysteriously" vanish before your body is cold.
So have multiple storage locations, one for them to find and one hidden somewhere only a trusted relative knows about...
Have them upload to an offsite server in real time.
FFS. I've told my wife to never call the cops if I crash, just an ambulance. And no matter what I'm doing, say I'm passed out.
Although it's a perfect way to get away with killing your diabetic spouse, much like bumping off a child by buying them a three-wheeler.
Dude, it won't work.
You call 911 and request an ambulance, the cops are showing up too.
I've had to call 911 several times for medical emergencies, and every time the cops were there in tow.
Plus I suspect that if you call 911 and sepcifically request an ambulance only, no cops, they'll probably assume that must mean you have something to hide, so SWAT TEAM!
My aunt called 911 (I think) after my grandfather tried smoking some weed for the first time for his arthritis and passed out for a few seconds (my cousins and I tried to stop her on the grounds that weed never really hurt anyone, but she was freaking out) and the paramedics showed up, but no cops. So it's not always. Of course this was in a small town in Connecticut.
Of course this was in a small town in Connecticut.
Where did he even find pot to buy?
Is it sad that I don't even consider Connecticut a state? My mind instantly just goes to "Oh, NYC suburbs."
Spent a couple of sleepy nights in Hartford.
I've had an ambulance out twice with no cops.
The only time I've ever seen the cops show up on an ambulance call was when I was shot. Which makes sense. Of course, about half the cops in Henderson showed up to ask stupid question and keep the paramedics from helping me.
Writhing on the floor, bleeding and screaming and they were trying to cross me up on my "story."
You've been shot?
Oh wait, I forgot where you live. It has to happen on your 16th birthday, right?
Yes. I thought all the long-timers heard by now. I was a late-bloomer, so I had to wait until I was 21.
We're getting into antediluvian stages here and I never heard of it.
One of the threads upon which I engraved my tale of woe.
You know, SF, if there's one thing I hate it's somebody always talking about their private life on here.
Hey honey, are we having spaghetti tonight, or should I run to the store?
So you want to translate what "having spaghetti" and "running to the store" mean to those of us not up to speed on your kinky sex games?
I'm sure you've been shot at many times. Armstrong is a hero to his people, you know. But, like Gilligan, you keep avoiding damage.
AWESOME
I thought that there would be a line of people waiting to shoot sugarfree. So many they had to install one of those take-a-number machines.
Writhing on the floor, bleeding and screaming and they were trying to cross me up on my "story."
Like you're going to give 'em the runaround while you're in that much pain.
Match Point: cops.
Of course, if anyone else but cops had blocked paramedics from treating a gunshot victim, they'd be in prison for interfering with emergency service personnel.
I'm pretty sure that the cops have always shown up for my hypoglycemic incidents too. In fact, one time one of the cops told my wife that if it happens she shouldn't try to do anything to treat it or get me to treat it but she should just call them and then go somewhere "safe" and leave me alone in the apartment. I'm surprised they didn't tell her to paint a target on me too.
What tarran said. You can't stop the cops from listening to the radio and responding to an opportunity to go help someone. Help them hard. Real hard.
I'm pretty sure it's standard practice for a police officer to arrive on-scene with EMT's in almost any emergency situation. They claim it's for safety purposes, but the incidences of assault against EMT's/fireman are extremely rare.
Methinks the purpose is twofold: first, it gives them a chance to rack up some cushy overtime. Second, it affords them a chance to rifle through someone's house that is otherwise preoccupied in an attempt to catch them in the act of an otherwise-unknown crime.
And try to tell them to get off your property when they show up in an emergency situation. You'll hear every absurd reason why they're there: protect the scene (as if an emergency is a crime scene), ensure the safety of the EMT's ( as if assaults against them are at all common) or ensure no other people are at risk (again, as if an emergency is somehow automatically treated as if it's a crime scene).
You're just jealous that the cops respond quicker to medical situations where they're not needed than to minor matters like car theft and assault.
Oh, fuck. That whole situation is unraveling on the guy I fired like a ball of yarn.
So he told the police detective on Thursday that he was embarrassed about losing his job, so he took the car. He called him back yesterday and said he took it because he was in fear for his life because I was assaulting him and he had to go before I got violent.
Too bad for him that I've got a witness to the entire encounter and a second witness that he attempted to run over with the truck.
"Too bad for him that I've got a witness to the entire encounter"
VERY good move.
Sounds like a time I had to call the paramedics for a low blood sugar episode. The EMT's came in first through an open door, and then I noticed the FIVE cops that showed up. The dispatch had called it in as an OD, even though I'd been specific I'd taken nothing to cause what was happening. Sure enough, while I was being treated, the cops fanned out and snooped the house. They didn't find anything, as there wasn't anything to find, but still.
And no the didn't shoot my dog. Room was too small, and a fast moving Boston Terrier is a pretty difficult target.
You shouldn't ever call the cops unless you think something needs to get shot, and it's worth rolling the dice over the possibility that something you like will get shot in the process.
And always hide your dog first.
Decoys man, put out plastic decoy dogs. The pigs can't resist them...
NEVER call the police. Their job is to kill and rob and kidnap. That's all.
Really?
Sounds like every other monday to me.
We had a church member who went a little funny in the head, took his shotgun and a lawn chair, and went out to sit in his front yard (this was in the suburbs). His wife, rather than call the cops, called my dad (who is the church pastor). My dad went over and talked to him, and nobody got hurt. Turned out he had a brain tumor.
What about pastor safety?
"Stop Resisting! The Power of Christ Compels You! The Power of Christ Compels You!"
There's something off about this story.
I don't believe a word the fiance says. And if you choose to believe that the cops just showed up, didn't say a word, and shot a guy who was standing there with his hands in the air, then I feel sorry for you.
