Miriam Carey was killed near the U.S. Capitol last Thursday following a chase that began after she rammed a barricade at the White House. Some footage of the chase below:

Hopefully this will open eyes to the fact that the mentally ill have ready access to vehicles and children. Pass common sense mental illness registration legislation now! Anyone who didn't report that this woman was unstable should go to jail. Won't someone please think of the politicians?

I am surprised that people are actually talking about whether the use of deadly force here was necessary. Wherever we collectively land on that, that their actions are being scrutinized at all is a positive.

Three factors in this are

Officer Safety which is justification for almost anything

You must obey the Police Officer even if he is wrong

Combined War on Drugs which got police ready to kick in doors and drag people from their cars and now the War on Terrorism which makes everyone a suspected terrorist who is either going to blow up themselves or blow up a car so shoot them before anything bad happens
