Matthew Feeney Discusses Bradley Manning's Sentence on the BBC World Service at 1:45pm ET

At 1:45pm ET I will be on the BBC World Service's "World Have Your Say" show to discuss Bradley Manning's sentence.

Earlier today Manning, who was convicted of leaking classified information to the website Wikileaks, was sentenced to 35 years out of a possible 90 years in a military prison.

That sounds like a gigantic waste of fucking time. Perhaps you should discuss the circumstances of his imprisonment, instead.

Normally when prisoners are mistreated they get multiples of credit for time spent in prison. Mannings multiple was... 1. 3.5 years of hell behind him. At least 10 years of hell in front of him. (He's eligible for parole after 1/3 of his sentence is served.)

I'm sure the government will do everything it can to make sure Bradley Manning receives the same humane and dignified treatment which it affords to all of those it incarcerates.

Just as they have done since his arrest in 2010. I mean, all suspects are kept in solitary confinement until they attempt suicide, right? It's like standard operating procedure.

Bradley Manning only attempted suicide because he could no longer bear the weight of his guilt. He was sickened by his betrayal of the love and trust Big Brother showed him.
