Connecticut Gun Maker Turns Back on Home State To Open Plant in North Carolina
Connecticut's restrictive new gun laws undoubtedly played a role
Sturm, Ruger & Co., a gun maker with corporate headquarters in Southport, plans to open a manufacturing plant in Mayodan, N.C.
The company already has plants in Newport, N.H., and Prescott, Ariz. This will be its first expansion in more than 25 years.
Sturm, Ruger, which has 2,100 employees companywide, hopes to create more than 450 new jobs in Mayodan by the end of 2017. New positions will include production workers, tool makers, manufacturing engineers, and product design engineers.
