NPR: Tea Party Groups Faced Much Tougher IRS Scrutiny

That's a chart compiled by NPR based on House Ways & Means Committee data about groups whose names put them on the IRS "be on the lookout" list while applying for tax-exempt status. Despite claims that all sorts of groups were targeted, this suggests that the Tea Party and "patriot" groups really took it on the chin. "The analysis is the closest so far to an objective numerical accounting of how the groups were treated by the IRS," writes NPR, which also quotes Dems and Reps complaining about bias in the investigation.
HT: David French at NRO.
Recall that back in May, President Obama - who has not been implicated in the scandal - called the IRS' behavior "intolerable and inexcusable." More recently - last week - he called it a "phony scandal."

Wow, they really aren't even trying to hide the corruption.
Anyone have any idea what "Patriot, 9/12" means. I know that self-described patriot groups are generally Bircher types, but am particularly puzzled about 9/12. Islam as an existential threat post 9/11?
I don't think it's fair to say that "Patriot" groups are "generally Bircher types," unless you think the Tea Party is Bircher.
The 9/12 Project.
Thanks.
Here in the Bronx, the Tea Party is indistinguishable from the JBS, and I understand that's common elsewhere too. So FAIK the Tea Party generally may be Bircher.
It's like a typical tea party group with a religious twist.

Sad how NPR has joined the Right-Wing Noise Machine and is recycling right-wing talking points about phony scandals.

Heh. Was wondering who was going to drop "phony scandal" first here.
FB is going to be interesting tonight.
I wonder where Shriek is to tell us that it's not a scandal because left groups were targetted too.
He'll be here any minute to tell us that again.
Yeah, the fact that they targeted 15 times as many right leaning groups as opposed to leftist groups, and denied 55 of those applications on the right, but 0 on the left, that's just a coincidence.
Sheeky will also say that there is no way there is anything to this either:
possible collusion between FEC and IRS
My liberal Facebook friends have been Sgt. Schultz for the last few months on anything concerning the administration.
The denials by Democrats get more and more absurd. This scandal has legs. It's already gotten to the top appointed officials in the IRS, and connects to the FEC, the FBI, and OHSA. Will it connect with the NSA?
What everyone knows but the Democrats are going crazy to deny is that this goes to the president. That's why they're fighting so hard to deny this one.
A while ago on Slashdot someone claimed that it had been "proven" that Obama had nothing to do with the IRS scandal. I asked for a citation to prove that particular negative, and got downmodded.
I don't see how anyone couldn't suspect he was involved, what with all of the bedroom time with the IRS head and counsel.
What scandal? You Beckerheads are so paranoid.

Yep, we all need to just go back to Glenbeckerstan where there are no roadz.
Isn't that one of the main purposes of Obamacare, to tie the IRS and NSA to healthcare?
"...President Obama - who has not yet been implicated..."
FTFY
Who is this NPR group? The only NPR I know of would bury these stats .
So what is the libertarian populist position on the IRS?
Storm the IRS building, cleanse it with fire, hunt down all of its employees and political officials and exile them to Nunavut. You know, the usual.
Yeah but the populists were the ones who wanted the income tax in the first place.
Those weren't libertarian populists.
I have the worst time understanding why anyone thought a federal income tax wouldn't go horribly wrong.
TOP. MEN.
You're being way too nice, ProL.
Well, I'm feeling benevolent today.
This headline is completely incorrect. This is not a chart compiled by National Public Radio but by House Republicans, published by NPR. You can believe Darryl Issa's jive if you like, but I don't. The data were selectively collected (Issa asked the IG to investigate only complaints by Tea Party groups) and selectively presented.
Where's the link to the data on the other progressive groups that were targeted?
We are waiting Alan.
Right, because NPR is just a bunch of shills for Team Red who would credulously report anything that Republicans say as gospel truth with no fact-checking.
That's because Progressives are part of the reality based community. Of course they'd get 100% approval.
Because science.
Roll that beautiful bean footage!

I wonder how the breakdown was between Wiccan and Odinist churches.
