US Got Edward Snowden's Middle Name Wrong in Extradition Request

Edward Snowden, NSA-leaker extraordinaire, is such a familiar face in world news that he's almost a household name. But for all the extensive NSA spying capabilities he revealed, US authorities were still not able to get his name right on extradition documents issued to Hong Kong, according to Rimsky Yuen, the city's justice secretary.

Seeking a provisional arrest warrant for Snowden, the US government submitted documents referring to Edward James Snowden, the Wall Street Journal reported. In another document it just used his middle initial. According to his passport, however, Snowden's middle name is actually Joseph.

These are the professionals we're supposed to trust with the most potentially dangerous, far-reaching powers, but who can't figure out the names of their own former employees.

People I've known who explored making the transition from "high-speed/low-drag" military units to the CIA/NSA/similar government agencies tell me that the people they met were not anywhere near the image projected in the movies.

This kind of lack of attention to basic detail doesn't surprise me at all. These are the kinds of people who, because of their authority, expect people on the other side of the exchange to fix or make up the slack for any errors.

I just feel sorry for the guy who's name is actually Edward James Snowden. May suffer the same fate as Archibald Buttle.
