Cops Shoot German Shepherd in Front Yard, Tell Story Contradicted by Security Camera
In El Monte, California

Cops in El Monte, California shot Kiki, a German shepherd, after entering a front yard in the course of investigating, apparently, a runaway teenager; they were visiting the home on an appointment, an hour late. Police say procedures were followed. Via the San Gabriel Valley Tribune:
"They did go up to the front (gate)," the captain [Dan Buehler] said. "There was a beware of dog sign of the gate. They did what we always do as police officers. They shook the gate. They didn't see any dogs."
"They looked for any signs of dogs -- chew toys, dog mess, what have you," Buehler said, adding that they entered the yard after not seeing anything indicating a dog was present.
"They walked up to the porch. They rang the doorbell. They knocked on the door. That's when the first dog came around the house," he said.
But video captured by the security camera at the home (you can watch it below) don't show the police officers doing anything of the sort before entering through the gate. One cop petted the family's pitbull before returning to the gate to close it, and the other cop shot the German shepherd, though the shooting is off screen. The dog wasn't killed by the gun shot but had to be euthanized at the vet. The family also claims police told her her dog was ok after it had been shot, and demanded licenses for all the dogs in the house before allowing the German shepherd to get treated. The family says it hasn't even gotten an apology, and also points out there was a children's party in a front yard across the street and several children in the home when the shooting took place.

Well, the captain was truthful in one respect. They did indeed do what they "always do as police officers." They shot the dog and lied about how it went down.
zing
I'm sure the officers will be charged with filing a false report, lying under oath, perjury, animal cruelty, discharging a firearm in city limits, child endangerment, and trespassing, because there's no double-standard. Right?
no that only happens if you kill a dog without wearing a costume.
So if I dress up as a clown I can kill dogs without consequence?
You're dressed up as a clown no matter what you wear.
BOOM!
Yeah. I'm a funny guy. Too bad looks aren't everything. =-(
You really are a funny guy!
Presumably they a busy searching for some wiretapping statutes they can throw at that family.
Those people are lucky they don't live in Philly. Recording with sound is still getting people locked up there on a regular basis.
The family also claims police told her her dog was ok after it had been shot, and demanded licenses for all the dogs in the house before allowing the German shepherd to get treated.
Nice touch.
They'll be getting the bill for the bullet in the mail soon.
And it won't be the wholesale coast, either.
I only recently found out that you need to license your dog in some states and pay annual fees, and I still can't believe it.
Police lie. Based on my personal experience, they lie alot.
Yet people will take a cop's word over that of a coked-up crack whore. There ain't no justice.
Yet people will take a cop's word over that of a coked-up crack whore.
Judges especially. Most seem to be cop wannabees.
My experience is that they lie even when the truth would serve them just as well.
It's flat out pathological.
just like politicians and bosses
This particular Dilbert is on the side of my cubicle at work.

High five.
It's a strange place to be sympatico with Dilbert's boss... I must say.

I know it. I think that's why I like that particular comic so much.
"There was a beware of dog sign of the gate. They did what we always do as police officers."
Indeed so.
Too easy
They did what we always do as police officers. They shook the gate. They didn't see any shot the dogs."
Screw you Krayewski for trying to ruin my Friday night!
C'mon, you couldn't really enjoy Friday night without a good reason nutpunch!
God damn lying security cameras!
They should have had Aaron Hernandez review the tapes.
If you don't have a dog in your front yard, you have nothing to worry about.
And even if you have a security camera recording every cop lie, the cops have nothing to worry about.
Procedures followed. Guns went off.
God this pisses me off. Why do they blatantly lie? Why do cops just lie about even the most routine shit? And when, when are they going to enact a weight requirement for officers? These are the questions that I want answered.
You need a license to own a dog in California?
$20 a year in Los Angeles if they're fixed. Something astronomical if not. My estimates of level of compliance?
Damn squirrels and their hatred of less than signs. Should have said "less than 10%."
We've got to register our dogs with the town every year. It's like $25 each. They'll take every last bit of revenue they can get.
1. I don't understand how you let your patrol get get that fat. I can understand detectives and the guys running desks, but just as a corporate image thing I would think they'd have some strict appearance requirements.
On the other hand, I've seen guards from my local prison in the store grabbing stuff before work in faded, un-ironed uniforms. Maybe its jus the military in me but I can't imagine that these people should be allowed out in public in uniform, let alone a shitty looking one.
2. What sort of douchebag goes through a closed gate without closing it behind him.?
3. If a taser is enough to take down a grown man, why wouldn't it be the weapon of choice for a dog?
2. What sort of douchebag goes through a closed gate without closing it behind him.?
I noticed that as well.
And city boys. "Leave the gate how you found it" is something you learn in rural areas.
Country boy, we city people have a saying, "were you raised in a barn?" when someone leaves a door or gate open.
No, I grew up in a city and it just seems to me to be blatant courtesy. If the owner had the gate closed its because he wanted it closed. Go through and close it behind you.
2. What sort of douchebag goes through a closed gate without closing it behind him.?
The kind that has no responsibilities and is never accountable for their actions.
Because once the taser shuts off, the dog gets up and runs away, stealing the officer's toy.
So we had a person on a recent thread lamenting the denigration on here of due process. Due process for government lackeys that want to plead the Fif and not be terminated for their intransigence. He claims that their due process rights preclude them from being fired for not answering their employer's questions (note: not a criminal proceeding).
Let's see him come on here and decry these peoples' due process rights to what amounts to a warrantless B&E through a gate with a prominent "BEWARE OF DOG" sign and the destruction of the owner's property without cause.
You wanna bitch about a real infringement of someone's due process rights, fuckface? Here's your chance to do it in the real world, for a real person whose rights and property were destroyed. Not to mention that the destroyer also lied in an official statement and committed myriad crimes, all under color of law.
On second thought, don't come on here and comment. Your display of mental gymnastics earlier today was enough for me. After all, I'd been away for a while and need to work my way back up to the level of idiocy I expect from you. Too much in an initial dose might just induce a grand mal seizure.
Good shoot.

Well, he doesn't have any murderers to high-five, so a puppy-hitter may have to serve.
The article CONCEDES that the dog wasn't killed by the gun shot AND that the police told her her dog was ok.
Plus we have video. That's why I am such a firm believer in videotaping/audiotaping by/of cops, because I know (and the record is pretty clear) that on the whole, it is much more likely to protect us from false claims. In cases where it catches actual corruption vs. bogus claims, that's of course a rare bonus.
The totality of circumstances clearly demonstrate the officers were acting heroically going THROUGH that gate.
More than I can say for you who would likely say "fuck it" and walk away like a "civilian".
Continue with your bigorati keyboard warrior hate.
hth
I like it. You get dropped to a B+ for your blatant misuse if the shift key, but an otherwise stellar performance.
Obviously the camera isn't taking into account the totality of the circumstances. Procedures were followed. Good shoot.
hth
This is outrageous!!
Dog body language training should be mandatory, if they are scared of any dog you should not become a cop, as there are scarier things they have to deal with.
That's beside the point, the German Shepard was clearly showing submissive gestures, low body, ear tucked back, and slow tail wagging. If the dog(s) were aggressive or growling it will look different. It's just ignorance cop eff'ed up and tried to cover it up. I am disappointed as well as outraged by her action. She had a pepper spray, why not use it. It's just as effective.
Cop saw an opportunity to discharge her weapon at something besides paper and took it.
That's exactly right
Aah, I see. The cop wanted a cage fight. That's why the other officer locked her in with the dogs. You can't blame the cops for getting a little excited after watching The Hunger Games.
I have never in my life seen an aggressive german shepard outside of when they're used as police dogs. And even then only when they're given the command to attack.
You guys better watch what you say on these comments. You'll be charged with espionage.
Cops never lie. Obviously the video has been photo shop'd
