FreedomWorks Challenges Surveillance Fetishist Lindsey Graham to Turn Over His Email Password

At a press conference today FreedomWork Pres. Matt Kibbe challenged Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) to turn over his email password. You know, because Graham has nothing to hide. Here's the group's press release: 

In a Fox and Friends interview last Thursday, Senator Graham defended the National Security Agency's (NSA) warrantless surveillance of American civilians, telling the show's hosts, "I don't think you're talking to the terrorists. I know you're not. I know I'm not. So we don't have anything to worry about." Senator Graham then went one step further, concluding that he was "glad" the warrantless surveillance activity was happening in the NSA.

Kibbe commented, "Privacy is a citizen's right to choose what information you prefer to tell the public about, and what you choose to keep to yourself. Senator Lindsay Graham recently asserted that violating the Fourth Amendment to implement warrantless government surveillance is not only acceptable, it's welcomed. If we're not talking to terrorists, we have nothing to worry about."

"Respectfully, Senator, we ask you to lead by example and make your email account password available to the American people. If you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about. Right?"

At the same press conference, Kibbe announced that FreedomWorks had signed on to Sen. Rand Paul's lawsuit against the NSA.

What do we actually know (insofar as we are able) they are doing? So much has come out in the past few days that it is difficult to keep track. Is there a reliable source that summarizes all the leaks thus far?

So far, I've heard:

- Collecting originating number, dialed number, originating location (when available), duration of call, and some unique identifier (not necessarily a name) for every Verizon call originating within the U.S. since ???? (and by extension, other service providers)
- Something relating to text messages (don't remember what)
- Collecting the content (is this confirmed?) of all emails (for which people?) from Gmail, Yahoo, Microsoft, and all Facebook posts

Is that all correct? Am I missing something?

Not just because we have to rely on him doing it voluntarily and he will never do it, also because we have to rely on him doing it voluntarily and even if he did it, we'd all suspect he hadn't. He'd just release the e-mails he didn't mind people seeing. He wouldn't release emails he didn't want people to see.

Grilling implies some kind of prosecutorial authority. Sadly, this is just snarking. None of us can spy on Graham the way he spies on us and return the favor.

Proposal: all "public servants" should have email accounts with three levels of security. The first is for full read/write access. They would ba allowed to keep that to themselves. The second would allow anyone to see the email headers. The third would be to see the contents of the messages. They would have the option to choose 2 or 3 or neither, but they would have to explain their choice in writing.
