Many Media Outlets Not Attending Eric Holder's Sad "Off the Record" Media Get-Together on Media Spying
None of them should be attending

Eric Holder is in trouble because his Department of Justice has been aggressively targeting media outlets as part of its campaign against government leaks, seeming to focus on the "demand-side" of a free press operation rather than the "supply side" of a leaky government. The Attorney General would like you to know he is a good progressive, so he wants to show remorse for enabling a media fox hunt. He's even invited media outlets to his office to talk about the DOJ's surveillance of reporters. That get-together, like some previous pow-wows between the White House and the (liberal) media, is supposed to be off the record. Four and a half years on some media outlets won't have any of that anymore.
Fox News, one of the DOJ's targets, won't be attending any "off-the-record" meetings, and, Fox News Insider reports, neither will several other outlets, including the AP, the New York Times, CNN, the National Journal, and even the Huffington Post. The Washington Post and Politico have reportedly accepted the invitation to hear an off-the-record explanation of why their colleagues are being spied on by federal law enforcement. Spied on for leaks as mundane as the fact that North Korea might respond poorly to more sanctions, the information for which the government named Fox News reporter James Rosen a "co-conspirastor" for acquiring.

Surprised to see some actual journalistic integrity from these news outlets.
Even the most sycophantic of hacks must have a limit to the amount of bullshit they'll swallow.
and there's Politico...
Apparently the group of hacks, including Ezra Klein, who went in for a talk with Obama last week were not able to deliver on their promise to keep the rest of the media on the leash.
Seriously, does "off the record" mean anything anymore? I feel like if someone in a position of power says "This is strictly off the record" and you publish it anyway, the worst that would happen is that you don't get invited back to any off-the-record functions. But, this being Obama's World 2013, the reporter would probably end up in Guantanamo.
'Off the record' means 'our version of how the goat came to be pregnant, insofar as we have been able to determine that nobody actually has photographs that contradict our claim'.
Well, don't get invited to off-the-record discussions by anyone ever again.
No one is ever going to give you a background interview since they know you can't be trusted. They'll also deny ever saying any of what they told you.
While there's some truth to this, it's also critical for the media not to trade access for its independence. The news media is pretty much fucking useless if it's so obsessed with having access that it never reports or investigates anything important. Or questions government at all.
Exactly. They should attend the "off the record" meeting and then put it on the record in some very scathing articles. They ought to also include the whole thing about their deception being a response to Holder's (and everybody else in the executive branch's) deception.
Good for the media that are bagging this event. Now let's see them unleash the hounds on this administration. Because it's the right thing to do.
Exactly, PL. If they still know where the hounds are tied up, that is.
The hounds all died of malnutrition after not being fed since 2008.
You know, they really weren't used that much during the Bush years, either. Lots of snide remarks and mocking of Bush, but where were the hard-hitting expos?s? Anyone really think everything was legal during those years? Ditto Clinton.
MOST TRANSPARENT ADMIN EVVVVVVVVAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!
Wouldn't it be hilarious if someone 'leaks' the details of this meeting and the DoJ comes down on the reporter?
I believe I read that the Wall Street Journal is opting to attend. Obviously it's the "off the record" stipulation that many are finding to be a bridge too far with this particular scandal.
Is Reason attending?
Your question, it assumes so much.
the government named Fox News reporter James Rosen a "co-conspirastor"
Those *bastards*!
Someone should attend, and video the whole damn thing, and put it up on youtube.
Off the record my ass. We need a panopticon that mercilessly illuminates everything they do.
Exactly. If these media outlets truly wanted to thumb their noses, they would attend the meeting and report everything that happens.
is James O'Keefe invited?
You missed an important part of that formula...
Okay, I'll ask the tough question: What important part?
Well, it is a rather serious matter. If this doesn't close ranks among journalists I'm not sure what will. They should stand together. Once this door is open no one is safe and all this liberal-conservative bickering will mean squat once the government starts indicting the press willy-nilly.
Obama: Socialist by other means.
It already does mean squat. While there may be a few managerial differences between the TEAMS, there is substantively no difference between them. All the bickering is for show.
You don't spend $3.5T a year with bickering. There is plenty of cooperation going on between the TEAMS, and very little of it is good for the rest of us.
The Washington Post and Politico have reportedly accepted the invitation
Boots don't lick themselves.
attend and report but don't put it on vinyl. everybody gets what they want.
No, only release it on vinyl, so maybe hipster fedoratards will pay attention to what their generation is doing to this country.
"Fedoratards". I love it.
Fedoratardation is no laughing matter. It is currently the number two cause of thrift store inventory depletion, which is an immense problem for underpriveleged inner city populations. In addition, fedoratardation is spreading at an alarming rate in certain urban areas throughout the United States. While initial research indicates this might be a self-limiting factor due to fedoratardation's unexplained but apparent inability to fully saturate a population (the infectious agent, currently unidentified, seems to induce its victims to shun the uninfected, possibly limiting its growth rates), it is feared that an irony-resistant fedoratardation strain could arise among the populations in which it endemic and present a wider threat than is currently anticipated.
In any case, fedoratardation is a significant public health risk and more research into its causes is required. Please consider giving to the National Health Institute for Preventing Socially Transmitted Retroironophilia today to support this important effort.
"Fedora"
I have worn a fedora with my vintage 1980's Perry Ellis topcoat since the 1980's. Are you telling me that hipsters stole my hat style?
Make a record store day exclusive.
The irony is badass sports coaches wore fedoras. Now its hipster-doofuses wearing thin jeans.
I see what you did there...
Damnit! I was just going to post that. If you're not first on H&R, you're last.
If you snooze the early bird is worth two in the bush, or something like that...
If you can't stand the heat, don't live in a glass house.
"Even" the Huffington Post, as if it weren't part of the Administration's lapdog media?
It's Off the Record without Greta von Cistern!
"And, finally, the White House held an off the record briefing this afternoon. Nothing worth listening to was said. The cookies were excellent, though."
Are Amos cookies any good?
Just asking.
I think perhaps the point, it overflew your position.
^^Who the fuck is this useless cunt?^^
Hey Eric. Why the pseudonym?
That's nice. coming from someone who's initial trolling effort was a solid D- at best.
