Democratic Nativist (Yes, Such a Creature Exists) Strikes At Nikki Haley
Every good liberal knows that the GOP is the party of bigoted, narrow-minded "knaves and fools" that is in every way morally inferior to the noble and tolerant Democratic Party. But South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Dick Harpootlian apparently didn't get the memo. Addressing attendees at the annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner last Friday, Harpootlian introduced Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Vincent Sheehen by commenting:
"In about 18 months from now, hopefully he will have sent [incumbent Republican Governor] Nikki Haley back to wherever the hell she came from and this country can move forward."
This was a not-so-subtle dig at Haley's Indian-American Sikh heritage, although Harpootlian insists that he was only referring to Bamberg, Lexington County, where she was raised.
But if that's true then Republican Jake Knotts, who supported South Carolina's Republican Lt. Governor Andre Bower, Haley's opponent during the gubernatorial primary, was simply referring to her nice hairdo when he called her a "raghead." (Sikh men wear turbans.)
President Obama has yet to condemn Harpootlian, who has a history of charged comments against Haley. At last year's national Democratic convention, Harpootlian compared Haley to Adolph Hitler's mistress, saying the governor "was down in the bunker a la Eva Braun."
But the fundamental question that springs to my mind is that does a dude called "Harpootlian" have the moral authority to ask anyone -- especially someone called "Haley" -- to return "where they came from"?

See? This is why Armenians should be grateful to my Turkish ancestors; what the river Styx did to Achilles' skin vis a vis edged weapons, the genocide did to Armenians regarding charges of racism.
Of course, we all know that there is very little racism and ethnic prejudice in Eastern Europe/Western Asia.
Someone named Hartpootlian? How about somebody called 'dick'?
I'm shocked that the Democratic Party is still touting descent from a raping slaveholder like Jefferson and a bigamist practitioner of Indian Genocide like Jackson. It's as bad as claiming your Party's glorious heritage stems from bi-polar Lincoln, the denier of habeus corpus, corrupter of the Declaration of Independence, and forefather
of the strong central government.
Jackson wasn't a bigamist, his wife was.
Otherwise, carry on
Not to mention that bigamy seems a bit shoehorned into that list of nasty things. I mean who gives a fuck?
If you were a bigamist you'd probably give 2 fucks.
I certainly don't but I bet most modern day Dems would still condemn it - sounds too Santorumist for them.
Yeah, and funnily enough Santorum would be right by them condemning it.

he won't and no one should expect him to. It's okay when Dems take shots at female/minority Repubs because everyone knows those individuals are flawed since they don't tow the liberal lion.
Yes! Glad to see "tow the lion" is beginning to take hold!
Just because you get a vast majority of the minority vote doesn't mean your party doesn't have racist tendencies. Luckily, it does mean you won't get called on it.
So its evil to be a "nativist' but its all right for Shikha Dalmia to constantly lobby for more Indian immigration.
Shorter DJF: "derp"
Such pervasive arguments
but are those arguments also persuasive?
Is she Indian enough to be a classed as a minority?
Are you hispanic enough to be a Hispanic?

If it's a Democrat, then obviously, he meant the exact opposite of what he said, but the teathuglicans forced his hand.
Harpootlian? Sounds foreign. How long have his family been here?
And thus we see media bias at work. Had a Texas state Republican back bencher said such a thing about an Hispanic Democrat, it would have been the topic on all of the news shows and every Republican in America would have been asked to renounce the statement and to contemplate their own role in created an environment where such hate can thrive. It would have gotten the full Akin treatment. Meanwhile, a state Democratic chair says this about Haley and a few right wing blogs cover it and that is it.
Well, that's because if a democrat says it, they didn't really mean it, because we know they can't be racist since they support the right policies. Republicans however really mean to be racist, since they are obviously racists for not supporting the right policies.
Reason is not a right wing blog, John.
Yes it is. Libertarian is a flavor of right wing. The Yin to the SoCONs Yang.
Maybe Nikki Haley will stab him in the ass with her ceremonial dagger next time she sees him.
Obviously, she's the wrong kind of "Indian" to be embraced by Democrats.
"a la Evan Braun"? Anyone who says "a la" is a damn homo.
So maybe he was trying to out Graham for reasons other than politics.
Dick Harpootlian is also well known for criticizing Lindsey Graham repeatedly a few years ago by saying that he was "a little too light in the loafers" to replace Strom Thurmond. Pretty much everyone knew this was a reference to the fact that "lifelong confirmed bachelor" Lindsey Graham is heavily rumored to be gay. That was during his previous tour as SC state Democratic Party chairman.
God what a piece of shit. I don't like Graham. But the fact that he is not married or even if he does secretly like to be tied up and take it in ass in the privacy of his own home, has nothing to do with his fitness for office.

It sounds more like he's insinuating she is demonic, which is something people do to their political opponents on a regular basis.
Well the South Carolina Democrats have a history of tolerance don't they? The fact that racist Southerners saved the Dems from extinction in the 1870s and was their last redoubt until recently has been put down the memory hole. The fact that these racists were the ones who voted for Wilson, FDR, Truman (well most) and Stevenson(!) has been ignored.
