Unveiled plans for increased gun control on Friday

The Newtown, Conn., shooting has prompted a handful of states to enact tougher gun laws, and blue-state governors have led the way.

With Congress yet to agree on any federal changes, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo -- both thought to be Democratic presidential contenders in 2016 -- have shepherded tighter restrictions in their states. In Connecticut, Democratic Gov. Dan Malloy signed a new gun law earlier this month.

Add Chris Christie to that list.

Yeah that damn 75% approval rating in a blue state sure wouldn't make him a top notch presidential candidate or anything with all of that crossover appeal and pragmatic leadership. Sigh.

More shining displays of gun-control-advocate logic. Three of my favorites:

1) "It's hard for me to sit here today and say, 'If all these things got imposed we'd see an 'X' percentage drop in gin [sic] violence in this state.' I don't kno...w," said Christie. "Bad people are going to do bad things and so, would greater penalties deter people? You hope they do."

Well, now there's a rational basis for liberty-restricting legislation. Is there a sound, evidence-based reason to believe that we'll see significant public benefit in exchange for this infringement? Beats me. Let's just pass it and hope.

2) "This includes banning future purchases of the Barrett .50 Caliber"

Brilliant. Nothing takes a bite out of crime quite like banning the purchase of a 31 lb, 4'9" long specialty rifle that costs $9,000 to buy and uses ammo that costs anywhere from $3 to $10 per round that is never actually used by criminals in this country...mostly because it's a 31 lb, 4'9" long specialty rifle that costs $9,000 to buy and uses ammo that costs anywhere from $3 to $10 per round.

3) "and requiring firearms purchasers to present a valid government photo ID, along with the already mandatory Firearms Purchaser Identification Card."

Yo, dawg. We heard you like government IDs, so we added another government ID to the government ID you already need to show so you can ID while you ID.
