Former Rep. Jim Kolbe made both a business and personal argument in his appeal on Monday before the Senate Judiciary Committee to help the partners of gay Americans in the immigration bill.

Kolbe, 70, spoke about the anguish and great expense of arranging an innovation visa for his fiancé, Hector Alfonso. Alfonso had to leave the country for a year during their eight-year relationship because his prior visa ran out.
