Obama Campaign: We're Fighting for Gun Control for Grieving Families, Give Us Money
Also dismissing dissent

Organizing for America, the Obama campaign's post-election campaign apparatus, is lobbying in favor of new gun restrictions. Their latest missive follows the Obama gun control playbook pretty well, dismissing opposition as disingenuous and invoking the dead for an emotional response. The bulk of the campaign e-mail, from OFA's executive director Jon Carson:
Edward --
This week, two U.S. senators, a Democrat and a Republican with "A" ratings from the NRA, introduced a bill to close loopholes in background checks for all commercial gun sales.
Let that sink in for a minute. Millions of Americans have demanded action, and Congress is listening.
Now that we've got legislation, the next step is passing it. And no surprise here: Allies of the gun lobby are threatening to block a vote. You can be damn sure they're going to do the same thing if the bill makes it to the House, too.
OFA is taking the gun lobby head on. We won't stand by silently while the families in Newtown, Aurora, and Tucson grieve. So many people have worked tirelessly for congressional action.
We won't let Congress forget.
Chip in $3 today -- and let's get this done
Instead of standing silently by while families grieve, then, the Obama campaign is raising money. Earlier this morning on MSNBC, Joe Biden said the murder of children at Newtown was a "game changer" for gun control legislation. As Jacob Sullum has noted, however, the background checks referenced in the e-mail would have done nothing to prevent the massacre at Sandy Hook, and the Obama Administration's case for gun control boils down to a parade of emotion-laden non-sequiturs. To paraphrase Carson, that's for damn sure.

Politicians are raising money? Well, I never!
And making an emotional appeal for a law that won't fix the problem they are complaining about....
And they are going to use that $3 to do what exactly? Use it to bribe the pro-gun legislators to vote differently? Otherwise, what the hell does sending in the money have to do with getting this bill passed?
Obama's going to convert OFA funds to his personal bank account.
It would've been way better if they'd closed it with "git 'er done" instead of "let's get this done"
That's how the pro-gun email ends, duh.
It would've been delightfully ironic in this context.
The dems are going to blowthe repubs out of the water in the next election. They have their narrative on lockdown.
Why are you back, you homophobic douchebag?
Is the little baby going to cry?
Yes, I'm weeping right now, you fucking moron.
Relax, bro. Someone has to stop being a catamite to the gay agenda. A libertarian ought to recognize that it is only about growing government and tightening its grip over the average guy's personal thoughts.
You mean tightening its grip over your thoughts? Because surely those...urges you keep feeling couldn't be your own thoughts, right? They must have been transmitted into your brain and loins by the evil homosexual mind controllers. You should probably get some therapy before you start trying to lobotomize yourself.
Don't discourage self-lobotomy, dude. It would make him more coherent.
What if I like being a catamite?
This is just the beginning.

But only a homphobe would point it out, so I'm not.
Nope, no gay agenda to see here. Move along, folks.
As with marriage, the freedom-lover's response to this is to point out that it's not something the government should be involved in. Tax organizations (recognize marriage) or don't; but don't get in the business of deciding who's worthy of special treatment.
We live in the real world, not libertarian fantasy land. The government is involved, and is always going to be involved. We therefore need to make decisions on issues based around that fact.
So you want the government to pass a law to stop the evil homosexuals from making you fantasize about other dudes?
So taxes aren't really about raising revenue, but are really about controlling people? Who knew?
AND
Your gripe isn't really with gays, it's with government control, right?
Or are you saying that gays should be discriminated against to stop the government from trying to control you?
What ARE you trying to say?
Trying to pass ridiculous laws is nit the same thing as controlling peoples' thoughts, which is what your friend here was claiming.
Goddammit. Nit = not. I am typing one-handed here.
Replace government with tumescence or member and personal thoughts to cock and you could be the next SF.
Aw, dude. That was uncalled for.
I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?
If you mean that the Dems are going to lose in large numbers, then you're right.
Exit the libertarian bubble and realize that the country has moved significantly to the left since even the last election.
You mean the election that happened in November and has been followed by Obama approval rankings tanking since?
Obama's approval rating dropping 15 points in 5 months = THE COUNTRY IS MOVING TO THE LEFT!
The libertarian fantasy that some day even a sizable minority of this country will agree with you is strong on this website. Whatever his approval rating is, it is higher than the republican party's. Also, he owns the narrative on every issue right now. Gun control will only draw people to the polls in places the dems can't win anyway, and it gets his base donating.
He doesn't own the narrative on a single issue. He's blown his post election capital faster than any president in history. At this point in time, George Bush's approval rating was quite a bit higher than Obama's.
Explain to me how he owns the narrative on any issues. One. He lost the sequester. He's losing gun control. He's losing the economy. What narrative is he winning at the moment?

He won the sequester. Public opinion is that the repubs are trying to strangle the coutry with intransigence. Gun control is not losable for him, because the only places where people will vote on that issue are not democrats' targets for 2014. The economy is blamed on corporations, not Obama, and he has inflated the stock market enough that he can plausibly claim the economy is great.
"Nobody I know voted for Nixon."
This is a blatant lie. Would you like me to list Democrats in red states who will be obliterated if their party does anything about gun control? The places Democrats are targeting in 2014 are not left-wing strongholds, otherwise they'd still be Democrat. The places that are up for grabs are the exact places where gun rights could ruin the Democrats.
If you browse to Shitbag's er um, Obama's facebook page, every post is about gun control.
What? He's going to talk about the economy?
Shows you what a sick human being this Obama is using dead children and grieving parents. It's disgusting! Exploiting these poor people. Makes me physically sick. I never thought I could hate him more but he's the lowest of the low. A true American scumbag.
I could laugh at his ego when he thought he was going to lower the oceans and his presence made "Gabby open her eyes" but this is nothing to joke about. I'm so disgusted.
Look, we saw in the run-up to the last election that these people will beg for money sooner than a leper on the Spanish Steps. This shouldn't be surprising.
Speaking of which, when was the last time you donated to Reason? You can get a nice hat (but no alt-text).
Alt text is for closers!
All I got was this lousy t-shirt!
Think how hard it is to get a hat tip, of course you didn't get an actual hat.
I got a hat tip yesterday. Of course it was buried in the 24/7 links.
24/7? That's like a visor tip.
I got a T-shirt.
Speaking of which, when was the last time you donated to Reason?
The Jacket knows my terms. They have not changed.
what do you mean "these people"?
?.?
Jews, obviously.
Jews don't need to beg for money, they control the worldwide banking system in conjunction with the Bilderberg Group and Skull and Bones.
Get your head out of your ass, Epi.

The election's over, you shitbags. Get a real job. Home Depot's hiring.
Home Depot requires some knowledge and skills.
You could have fooled me.
Think about how much worse it would be if the stores were staffed by former Obama campaign workers.
I'll be so glad when this election is over...

Wait- I have been told repeatedly he's not going to take my guns away. He doesn't want to take my guns away, not in the least. Was the person who told me this an idiot? Lying? Or merely pathetically misinformed about the real agenda of his idol?
I have this sinking feeling that the entire rest of Obama's term as president is going to be him constantly, constantly pushing for more gun control. Just a constant drumbeat, nonstop. Because his braindead supporters eat it up and it distracts them perfectly from everything else.
I don't think so. Dead children can only be milked for so long.
I'm gonna go spike my morning coffee to wash that mental image away.
*drip* *drip*
Damn it sarc, I just finished off the last of my office stash. Cut that shit out.
Dead children can only be milked for so long.
"You can milk anything with nipples."
He's not going to take your guns away. Only the people who shouldn't have guns should worry. You know. Veterans, felons, people with a history of mental illness, anyone who has ever been depressed or anxious, people who don't trust the government... OK, you're right. He's after your guns.
Not taking them away, at least not yet. Just registering every sale and every re-sale, screening purchasers on an ever growing list of exclusions, going door to door making sure existing guns comply with all of the latest new regulations and are properly licensed and maintained, and stocking up on zip-ties like they used in New Orleans when they had to disarm people for their own safety.
The point is to make it so damn difficult to comply with the law that people won't bother.
Then when a gun owner calls the cops for whatever reason, say their home is burglarized, they go straight to prison once it's discovered that they illegally owned guns.
None of which the Toomey/Manchin bill does.
68 votes for cloture on S. 649
Yes! My $3 pushed it over the top!
Since when did Democrats care about babies?
They don't, but they LOVE them some dead babies. Especially the ones who were shot a deranged lunatic who wouldn't have been stopped by anything short of mass confiscation. It gets them harder than a diamond in a snowstorm.
Dead children can only be milked for so long.
Why do you think Biden was on Morning Joke beating the gong about more than three thousand gun deaths since Newtown!!1?
We are going to hear about every dead teenager baby who wasn't actively participating in an armed robbery or a shootout with the police as if he (or preferably she*) had been hunted down and used for target practice by the NRA.
*I refer you to the First Scold's fundraiser in Chicago yesterday.

Ohhh! He used "damn"! That's how you know it's serious!
Joe Biden said the murder of children at Newtown was a "game changer" for gun control legislation.
Dead children is game to you? How bout I take your little bill and SMASH....
