Senators Want Full Documents on Administration's Targeted Killings
Leaked memo not enough
U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, says leaked documents about the White House's legal justification for targeted killing aren't enough.
Grassley is among 11 senators calling on President Obama to be more transparent with his targeted killing program, under which top-level administrators and the president can clear direct efforts to kill suspected terrorists. On at least one occasion, the administration is widely reported to have cleared the killing of an American citizen in Yemen.
"It is a matter of public record that your administration believes the intelligence community has the authority to knowingly use lethal force against Americans in counterterrorism operations …," the senators wrote in a letter to Obama.
