Diane Goldstein led a spirited conversation about the efficacy of the U.S. drug war but probably won no converts among the Bel Nor Republican women to her idea that the effort is futile.

Goldstein, a Republican, spoke for about an hour to the Pueblo group about her experiences as a narcotics and school resource officer in Redondo Beach, Calif. There she coordinated a yearlong effort in which officers arrested every known dealer, then weeks later drugs were a booming business again.
