Defense For NJ Woman on Trial For 2008 Murder Want Wiretap Evidence Thrown Out

They say the jailhouse conversations between the woman and her mother amount to nothing more than hearsay

The long delayed murder case of 24-year-old Jade Michele Ransom — accused of shooting Jesus Dimas Rodriguez Marques, 23, on a Dover street on Jan. 27, 2008 — returned to action today as defense attorneys presented a motion to bar the use of her wiretapped conversations from jail and letters found in her cell.

Ransom's attorney, Alan Bowman, argued the prosecution had no "probable cause — to use the conversations — many of them with Ransom's mother, Simone Evans of Allentown, Pa., who is accused of witness tampering — and are an example of "improper manipulation" by the prosecutor's office. Ransom, formerly of Morris Township, has been held at the Morris County jail since her arrest in 2008.
