Reason Writers on Fox Business: Matt Welch Defends Swiss Bank Accounts
This morning I appeared on Fox Business Network's Markets Now program to discuss why having a Swiss bank account is a good deal less unseemly than millionaires passing legislation that gratuitously screws over the non-wealthy. About three minutes:
Read my two bits on the topic from this morning here and here.

Matt you look so grown up!
Bleh on the beard.
I like it. It makes him look evil.
Fuck you. His beard is excellent and distinguished. Now he just needs to replace his glasses.
Matt is trying to transition his look from Rob Neyer to Bill James.
That's cold! But funny. It's just an All-Star game beard....
The beard is okay but not as good as the handlebar mustache.
More important on TV: Point Blank starring Lee Marvin is on TCM today at 6:15 EST/3:15 PST. Set your DVR's, and sit back and watch the baddest motherfucker exact his revenge.
...?...OH!, for a minute there I thought you said Point Break!
"He's drunk and violent in all his movies!"
"Thank God!"
There's a scene in the movie which I'm sure is Balko's favorite...
"Thanks to President Obama, taxpayer money, mostly in the form of stimulus funds, ended up in the hands of companies overseas. Instead of creating jobs in America, the stimulus and other Obama policies created jobs or sent money to Finland, New Zealand, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, China, Denmark, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, Russia, Luxembourg, El Salvador, Great Britain, Spain, Japan, and France."

The makings of a great ad for Romney:
"Obama loves to complain I outsourced jobs. I didn't, but you probably aren't interested in the detailed explanation of why he's wrong about that.
But you might be interested in all the outsourcing Obama has been doing with your tax money. . . .
Guys stop making fun of Matt's first beard.
It's his training beard. He needs the wisdom of his peers to manage it.
I'm going to go off topic here and talk about Welch's beard:
It exists.
When will people realise there is no more banking secrecy in Swiss banks. Come on, Swiss banks have sold their international clients out like a bunch of Judases for years now!
Anyone with half a brain has moved assets to countries with better privacy, like for instance Hong Kong, Singapore, etc. However, these jurisdictions generally do not offer accounts to Americans, regardless if the American person is willing to file the FBAR on such an account. And who could blame these banks with draconian American tax measures like FATCA which threaten to withold 30% of any American assets held by the bank!
Anyone who banks in Switzerland is a moron who watches too many movies!
Thats all fine and good, but what do you think of Matt's beard?
Wait, Matt's gay?! His wife is just a cover?
Well, I knew it wouldn't take long for a Dem to get caught up in the same stupidity.

1. You don't need to have a Swiss bank account to have a diversified portfolio.
2. I think that there is nothing wrong with having offshore bank accounts. However, if you are running for an office like President of the USA, then you ought to be ready to explain what your reasoning is for having such. And why you need to offshore your money rather than keeping it in domestic banks/asset managers.
