Tim Cavanaugh Talks GOP's Anti-Ron Paul Shenanigans on Russia Today
Reason.com managing editor Tim Cavanaugh appeared yesterday on Russia Today to discuss how the Ron Paul Revolution is going as the Republican presidential convention approaches.
Topics:
The Massachusetts Republican Party is requiring Paul-leaning delegates to sign affidavits affirming that they will vote for Romney. Are they even allowed to do that?
Should Paul supporters work for change within the Republican Party or just sue people?
They say Ron Paul won the primaries in Louisiana, Iowa, Washington, Minnesota, Alaska, Colorado, Massachusetts and Nevada, but the numbers seem to say something else.
What's up with the ol' delegate strategy, and what's going on with the suspended campaign that isn't really suspended?
What will become of Ron Paul's clone army?
Is Romney, that electable electacrat of electability who proved in the primaries that he can draw about the same number of voters he drew in his losing race in 2008, stupid or just dumb to be alienating the one faction in the Republican Party with actual members who are energized and motivated?
And why haven't you bought your copy of Ron Paul's REVOLution by Brian Doherty? (You should buy two of them in case one of them breaks.)

They're not energized and motivated to get Mitt Romney elected, and weren't going to be no matter what he did, short of promising to legalize drugs and ferrets and passing a law forcing the Fed chairman to wear a chicken suit while testifying before Congress.
cant tell if serios
Serious. NO WAY the rank and file RP supporter is going to stump for Romney.
The list of things he'd have to do is half-joking, just to illustrate how unlikely a switch in support would be.
The interesting hypothetical, to me, has always been the one in which you swap Paul and Romney in your above statement. With Obama as the only alternative, I have to think that a nominated Paul garners more votes than a nominated Romney.
The problem is that a huge chunk of the GOP would prefer Obama to Paul.
Teams red and blue would prefer Satan incarnate over RP.
They'd have to find jobs.
The neo-con establishment lives in Blue states so it doesn't matter.
Not sure about that. Paul has a lot of things about him that BO's people could demagogue. I mean, they're things that you and I have no problem with but would make devastating 30 second ad material for low-information voters.
In a sense Romney defangs a lot of potential BO attacks because, other than his time at Bain, everything that BO can demagogue Romney with is true of BO too. Which is why BO's people are basically stuck doing all Bain, all the time in their ads.
Though I did chuckle at the new ad they're running here castigating Romney for the fact that Massachusetts was 1st in debt and 47th in job creation while he was governor... I don't think BO wants people to be talking about debt and employment records right now.
Romney for the fact that Massachusetts was 1st in debt and 47th in job creation while he was governor... I don't think BO wants people to be talking about debt and employment records right now.
...In a state that has the beta version of Obamacare.
So you weren't serious about the ferrets? You were just messing with us?
That's just cruel.
Yeah. We were looking forward to ferrets.
It wouldn't be enough for me, but what if Romney offered Paul a certain cabinet position?
Speaking of Russia, how the shit has no one reported on this?
If we're now in a state of national emergency, the president has just gained an assload of power.
Really? No interest? Zero news coverage?
I guess triggering emergency powers like executive-ordered economic controls and suspension of habeas corpus is no bigs anymore.
On second thought, this seems to be a re-run of a previous executive order from 2000. Still, the timing (with the tensions in Syria, etc.) is questionable.
Because I didn't know he has a book out. Why hasn't he mentioned this before?
For the same reason I haven't bought that other book by some other reason writers. One guess what that reason is...
They should have had Doherty on that Ask a Libertarian video series.
On my better days I agree with RP about his success. He DOES seem to be drawing large crowds (who apparently don't vote) and by all accounts has done much better this time around.
On my darker days I agree with Lew Rockwell, et al. The political parties are criminal organizations and trying to change the GOP from within makes about as much sense as trying to reform the Mafia.
And why haven't you bought your copy of Ron Paul's REVOLution by Brian Doherty? (You should buy two of them in case one of them breaks.)
Tim seems to have more enthusiasm for this book then with Matt and Nick's book.
Is this an east coast west coast thing?
And why doesn't Tim have a book? Seems like everyone else does.
Tim's got a movie instead.
So, when Rand endorsed Romney a lot here spoke of the "long game", is this part of that "long game"?
The Massachusetts Republican Party is requiring Paul-leaning delegates to sign affidavits affirming that they will vote for Romney. Are they even allowed to do that?
I'd like to see Rand Paul say a more subtle version of the following.
'Look, I'm the biggest coalition builder the GOP has seen since Reagan. Hannity loves me, the so-cons like me, and even the libertarian wing hopes I keep doing the right thing where possible, so, I'm going to be Prez one day and priority one will be destroying the careers of those who took a shit on my dad, is that understood?'
"Bob Dole doesn't like you threatening tone. Bob Dole is a war hero. Bob Dole is going to stab you in the face with Bob Dole's giant, chemically induced erection, sonny."
That's gonna sting in the morning.
I know it, you know it, the American people know it!
*WHAP*
*WHAP*
"Hold on stop! Bob Dole lost Bob Dole's pen in all the Bob Dole-stabbing-Rand Paul-in-the-face-with Bod Dole's-dong action that was just going on here. Bob Dole needs Bob Dole's pen, God-fucking-dammit!"
*WHAP*
"That one was for the road. Later calculator"
Twisted.
*Shrugs and walks away*
What legal right does the Rep party have to swear people in with penalty of perjury?
This has to be a bad joke.
I thought only judges, prosecutors, etc. had this privilege.
I don't believe so. Any organization can ask you to sign an affidavit with a statement affirming something on it.
You of course can refuse.
OT: But great news everyone; Nora Ephron is dead!
Why is this so great? She seemed pretty harmless.
Damn! to Cockgobbler @ 6.26.12 @ 9:44PM
Dude, the Sam Baldwin character from Sleepless in Seattle is quite possibly the most fully realized depiction of early 90s misandry.
OT: Women's Olympic Swimming sounds a lot hotter than it really is.

Simple: Stockton politicos bet on good times forever, spent like drunken sailors (apologies to the sailors), now have to *pay their debts*! Amazing!
Just in case you need some ipecac before bedtime:
Because bath salts should be in vending machines in high schools, amirite?
Right next to the heroin.
don't know how I didn't see this. The shower residues must have blinded me to it.
say, you care if I nibble your gall bladder?
Vending machines? Why do you hate the children?
They should be next to the condoms and the numbchucks outside the school nurse's office.
Jezebel: Dastardly Senator Tries to Sneak 'Personhood' Clause into Flood Bill
Guess which dastardly politician they're talking about?
Oh no! Now they'll have a much harder time giving free money to rich assholes who build homes in stupid places.
Now that's how you troll the pro-choicers.
And I'm still waiting for an adequate explanation from liberals as to why politicians can't involve themselves with a woman's uterus, but Michael Bloomberg is a visionary for preventing people from drinking Coke. My body, my choice?
Your body, our determined choice. Really, we're just trying to help you.
Uhm, point of order... liberals can involve themselves in a woman's uterus-- when it involves fertility treatments.
Silly Serious Man. Pro-choice is abortion and abortion only. Period. The End.
Everything else that happens between you and your doctor? Totally the government's business.
I can't wait until they push through legislation to allow full term abortions on liberals. And by full term, I mean any age, even after birth, I am talking senior citizens here. And I can't wait until lots of liberals choose that option. And by lots, I mean all of them.
Well now that makes a lot of sene dude.

My beloved adopted home state is burning. Hundreds of thousands of acres are burning, hundreds of homes have been destroyed, and Paul Krugman can't stop masturbating.
The neocons set the fires. They thought you might legalize pot or something really dangerous like that.
Russia just have new elections and this country is going through a big change,
