Check Out The Ultimate Tax Analyzer at MyGovCost.org
Here's a very sharp and interesting tool that analyzes what your lifetime taxes go to pay, how much you've got left to kick, and how much that money would have made you if it had been invested in a portfolio earning about 6 percent a year.
Click on the screen cap above to go to mygovcost.org and monkey around with the calculator, which breaks things down via categories ranging from Medicare to military operations. The example above uses a 40 year old making $60,000 a year.

emily's cute w nice ta-tas! plus i kill the sound to watch her mouth move.
Otherwise investing my taxes could have earned me millions of dollars! How many ROADS could I have bought with that?
I could have afforded a nicer monocle at the least. The one I have will only fry one old person at a time.
I find two monocles give you the proper depth perception to truly appreciate watching poor people struggle.
I almost think binoculars are better for that purpose, in case those geezers are radioactive.
Don't forget the stovepipe tophat.
But since you're a greedy libertardian, obviously you would prefer to squander (y)our money on frivolities and monocles instead of building the roads we all know we need. Why can't you just cough up 45% of your paycheck quietly like the rest of the subjects of this great nation?
Who says I need a road? If I get to keep all my own loot, maybe I'll develop a flying car!
If you're paying 45 percent of your income in taxes, I suggest you consult an accountant because you're over-paying.
Oh, right, you wanted to display how oppressed you are.
If no one paid taxes, then the chances of you earning 6% in the Mad Max style government free post apocalyptic wasteland that resulted would be pretty slim. Unless you invested in the Terror Dome building consortium of course.
It seems to be assuming that we wont be running a balanced budget in the future. Huh, I wonder why?
Teabagger lies!
I'm so old and so poor, I'm freeloading on the rest of you. neener neener
Hey! Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and National Defense is where most of my tax money is going, according to this site. That's not what the new House of Representatives is telling me. There's not even an NPR button for me to click.
81? What good is all this money and technology if I'm not going to live longer than that? Jesus, what century is this again?
That's before accounting for the new health care bill. When that kicks in, we'll have enhanced lifespans and save money to boot.
If by "enhanced" you mean "shortened", then I agree with you.
So a sort of Logan's Run scenario? That would solve the Social Security and Medicare problems.
That's where those Death Panels come in.
As long as the left over money is used to fund something similar to The Circuit, I'm onboard.

I'VE BEEN ROBBED!!!
Yeah, same here. Looking at what I could have had, I threw up a little in my mouth. =(
So good, I had to repost it!
Still sounds like a scam.
Very interesting. Now tell me where I can earn 6 percent per year!
That's the beauty of the system. As government spending and debt creation increase, your (reasonably low risk) investment options will become fewer, with lesser returns.
Emily,
I have a P.H.D. for you.
Only works for me. I'm infinite.
