Reason.tv Replay: Porker of The Month (July 2010): Rep. Marcy Kaptur!
Reason.tv presents Citizens Against Government Waste's Porker of the Month for July 2010: Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH)!
Back in March, the House Appropriations Committee banned members of Congress from awarding earmarks to for-profit companies.
Kaptur publicly praised the new ban, but privately she taught corporations (including one of her biggest campaign contributors) how to get around it, thus ensuring that their steady diet of taxpayer-supplied pork would continue.
Way to go, Rep. Kaptur!
"Porker of the Month" is written and produced by Austin Bragg. Approximately 1.2 minutes.

I thought this was going to be about Sen. J.T. Hutt, aka Debbie Stabenow, porker supreme from the great state of Meatchicken.
The obvious question is when is she going to take her talents to South Beach?
Also, Kaptur has to do what's best for Kaptur.
Kaptur remains unmarried and has no children, saying it would be impossible for her to balance her 500-mile commute and 90-hour workweek with a family.
The answer is obvious.
500-mile commute and 90-hour workweek
That's good. I'm using it.
I would never pork her!
Yay! My Congressmonster is on reason!
Also, she was one of Stupak's crew during the Obamacare shove-down. She broke down even before Stupak though.
It could be worse... you could live in Kucinich's district like I do...
So, who's her opponent this year?
According to Wikipedia, she might be up against Joe the Plumber (seriously). Or she might retire. But, at 74% of the vote last time, this is a safe D district.
Her Republican opponent is Rich Iott. The guy does not inspire a lot of confidence, but anything's better than Marcy...
Marcy Kaptur (D-OH)
Cue obvious Simpsons reference in 3 ... 2 ...
Lisa: "Didn't you wonder why you were getting checks in the mail, for doing absolutely nothing?"
Grandpa: "I thought it was because the Democrats were back in power."
I think he meant "D'OH!"
But yours works, too.
I just love the distinction between "for-profit" and "not-for-profit". It's as if the latter enjoys some level of respectability that comes with tax-free status and the ability to embezzle with almost complete abandon.
Corduroy, you're right on the money, so to speak. I came here to post that exact observation.
It's some variant of the sentiment that there's nobility in poverty. Clearly poverty can be a school-of-hard-knocks from which some people can derive great lessons, but it's hardly a condition for which to strive or create incentives.
More importantly, not-for-profit just means that one can plow revenue back into expenses like, wait for it.... executive salaries.
Someone help me understand how rather than having a somewhat participatory shareholder ownership structure, it's more noble to have an autocratic entity that doesn't redistribute the wealth more broadly.
It's in the bible. We're a Christian Nation?.
But it's okay when WE do it!
Did I mention the 70-foot, foreign-built yacht I just purchased recently, and that I store it in another state to avoid taxes?
Oh, and did I mention I served in Vietnam?
yeach,you know that.
Say it ain't so!
Kaptur has long portrayed herself as a populist, spending as much time hanging out with the old Perot/United We Stand/Reform Party crowd as she did with her fellow Democrats. And yet she's helping corporate welfare recipients skirt the law in order to continue receiving corporate welfare???
Nope. Sorry. I can't even feign surprise at this. I tried.
thank you for sharing the post!

yeach,that is very nice.
Is it just me or are the Reason TV Replays getting a bit outta hand? At least they say "replay" now.
I'm threadjacking bitches, just so I can say. ...
STOSSEL ROCKED THE HOUSE TONIGHT.
Annoying moms against porn?
Smackdown with stats showing teen violence/pregnancy rates down while tits are everywhere.
NEXT.
Gays in the military?
Stats showing the rest of the civilized world is " over it" so why do we stand with the douchebags on this issue?
NEXT.
Food police literally drawing guns on unpasterurized milk sellers? Bullshit.
NEXT.
Explain why he's a libertarian instead of a conservative?
Hayek quote.
Game set. Match.
It kills me that this show isn't more popular.
Typical Reason.com sexism. "Balls of steel", just trying to tear down a woman who doesn't go along with the patriarchy. Weigel and/or Sanchez would have something to say about this, and I would tell them, except my Jezebel audition hasn't been processed yet
Marcy Kaptur is doing what she can to make this a race. She was the July porker of the month and absolutely is showing a complete lack of interest of working in the best interest of taxpayers.
I like Rich Iott because he isn't a career politician. He will work towards a balanced budget. We need men and women who won't waste money and will balance the budget. Marcy is not that candidate as she has proved over the past 28 or so years. If we don't take a stand against this stuff and vote unethical people out, we deserve the horrible garbage that is coming down the road. You can't continue to spend money you don't have and expect things to just work out. Even the die hard Dems have to agree with this. It makes no sense at all.
I like it very much, thank you
