Back in March, the House Appropriations Committee banned members of Congress from awarding earmarks to for-profit companies.

Kaptur publicly praised the new ban, but privately she taught corporations (including one of her biggest campaign contributors) how to get around it, thus ensuring that their steady diet of taxpayer-supplied pork would continue.

Way to go, Rep. Kaptur!

I just love the distinction between "for-profit" and "not-for-profit". It's as if the latter enjoys some level of respectability that comes with tax-free status and the ability to embezzle with almost complete abandon.

It's some variant of the sentiment that there's nobility in poverty. Clearly poverty can be a school-of-hard-knocks from which some people can derive great lessons, but it's hardly a condition for which to strive or create incentives.

More importantly, not-for-profit just means that one can plow revenue back into expenses like, wait for it.... executive salaries.

Someone help me understand how rather than having a somewhat participatory shareholder ownership structure, it's more noble to have an autocratic entity that doesn't redistribute the wealth more broadly.

Kaptur has long portrayed herself as a populist, spending as much time hanging out with the old Perot/United We Stand/Reform Party crowd as she did with her fellow Democrats. And yet she's helping corporate welfare recipients skirt the law in order to continue receiving corporate welfare???

Marcy Kaptur is doing what she can to make this a race. She was the July porker of the month and absolutely is showing a complete lack of interest of working in the best interest of taxpayers.

I like Rich Iott because he isn't a career politician. He will work towards a balanced budget. We need men and women who won't waste money and will balance the budget. Marcy is not that candidate as she has proved over the past 28 or so years. If we don't take a stand against this stuff and vote unethical people out, we deserve the horrible garbage that is coming down the road. You can't continue to spend money you don't have and expect things to just work out. Even the die hard Dems have to agree with this. It makes no sense at all.
