Hollywood Babylon—For Ugly People
A week of navel-gazing coverage of Andrew Breitbart, the Journolist, and race
President John F. Kennedy called Washington, D.C., a city "of Northern charm and Southern efficiency." This city—the one I reluctantly call home—is indeed inefficient and charmless: The reason for the former should be obvious, though the latter can be blamed on those oleaginous hordes of pompous and self-important politicians, bloggers, and journalists that make D.C. "Hollywood for ugly people." (Yes, I am one of these types, but, in my defense, I have a perfectly reasonable understanding of my low-level of influence and importance, and I don't harbor an earnest desire to change the world or score victories for "my side." I'll let the reader decide how physically repulsive I am.)
If you haven't noticed the recent "news," you blissfully missed another week of Beltway navel-gazing, of self-referential media stories, holier-than-thou sermonizing about journalistic ethics, and the usual bipartisan accusations of race-baiting. We have all heard the deeply serious denounce our loathsome celebrity-obsessed media culture, with all of its reporting on Britney, Mel, and Lindsey. Scoff, eye-roll, harrumph—queue the dissident MSNBC anchoring tearing up a Paris Hilton news story on camera, the Solzhenitsyn of the cable news age.
Serious people don't report on the unserious gossip from Hollywood, though how about the unserious gossip from Ugly Hollywood? Cut to the furrowed brow, finger-wagging panel of experts discussing the firing of Washington Post reporter Dave Weigel, the leaked emails from obnoxious and unfunny liberal journalists, and the outraged discussion on just how a hyperpartisan troglodyte like Andrew Breitbart had snuck into our club. Sure, we bowdlerize quotes and accuse non-racist people of secretly harboring Orval Faubus tendencies, but we do it with élan and a journalism school degree.
So nonsense replaces nonsense, Britney to Breitbart, but it's the only thing this charming and efficient city is talking about.
First, there was the Journolist leaks, in which members of a listserv inhabited by liberal journalists and academics expressed their desire to see Rush Limbaugh die of a heart attack; to toss their enemies through plate glass windows; to call random conservatives racists; and to rid the country of those "fucking NASCAR retards." In other words, a confirmation of preexisting conservative stereotypes about members of the liberal intelligentsia. But was the group of 400 writers—the Learned Elders of the Left—attempting to coordinate news coverage?
Former JournoList members scoff at charges of collusion, that they were members of an all-powerful clique recalibrating White House policy, burying coverage of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and plotting to force Fox News off the air—all from a Google Group. Critics counter that, whether opinion journalists or straight news reporters, the group was attempting to "organize a media narrative," to use Atlantic blogger Andrew Sullivan's phrase.
The whole tedious debate misses one interesting point. While commenters have noted blogger Spencer Ackerman's sleazy suggestion that liberals start labeling random Republicans "racist"—pick a conservative, like "Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists"—few noticed the obsession with accusing opponents not of being misguided or wrong, but motivated by racial animus and Nazi-like hatreds. But more on this in a minute.
The other media-centric obsession was a selectively edited video released by conservative activist Andrew Breitbart, suggesting that a black employee of the Department of Agriculture discriminated against white farmers while working for the Obama administration. A terrified White House forced the employee, Shirley Sherrod, to resign, thus seeming to confirm the charge that the administration had purged the USDA of a dangerous racist, the Angela Davis of the farm lobby.
When the unexpurgated video was released, Sherrod was vindicated, offered an apology from President Barack Obama, the NAACP, Bill O'Reilly, and dozens of others quick to believe the racism charge, and offered her job back. In other words, Sherrod was slimed and maligned because someone falsely accused her of being a racist. But then again, Sherrod, who CNN's David Gergen compared to Nelson Mandela, doesn't subscribe to the ghastly views of Karl Rove and Fred Barnes.
Most members of the media, both liberal and conservative, expressed outrage over Sherrod's sacking and the unfair media coverage that followed. Keith Olbermann denounced the "political guillotine" of Fox News and Breitbart, and the conservative desire to "convict the benevolent as racist." It was important, Olbermann maintained, to remember that facts matter and that hyperbolic bloggers who end up treating their quarry like Danton should be humiliated. And if you thought these pleas for level-headedness, for the media to tone down the rhetoric, were sincere, the MSNBC host employed another analogy from French history, comparing Sherrod to Captain Alfred Dreyfus, the French military officer famously sentenced to life imprisonment on Devil's Island in an anti-Semitic frame up.
Even Sherrod, having just observed the consequences of sloppily charging people with racism, told CNN that Breitbart "knew what effect [the video] would have on the conservative, racist people he's dealing with." And as the scripted media introspection and the rehearsed "conversations" about race were inaugurated by those who already knew the answers, blogger and former Journolist member Matt Yglesias was falsely accusing libertarian economist Arnold Kling of racism—the second time Kling has had to endure the toxic charge. But Kling, unlike Sherrod, is an enemy.
If all this counted as a teachable moment, it is unclear who the students were.
But the unfair charge of racism, fascism, and Nazism, correctly denounced when spouted by Glenn Beck, seems something of a regular feature on Journolist. A blogger named Lindsay Beyerstein wrote of Obama's opponents: "I'm not saying these guys are capital F-fascists, but they don't want limited government." Richard Yeselson, another liberal blogger, agreed: "This is core of the Bush/Cheney base transmorgrified (sic) into an even more explicitly racialized/anti-cosmopolitan constituency. Why? Um, because the president is a black guy named Barack Hussein Obama." Yeseleson argued that the Tea Partiers wanted a "militarist/heterosexist/herrenvolk state," using the German word for "master race." An essay by Victor Davis Hanson arguing against illegal immigration is "very close in spirit to the classic 1970s racist tome The Camp of the Saints, where White Guys struggle to make up their minds whether to go out and murder brown people or just give up."
But false (or flimsy) accusations of racism abound—they are everywhere one looks—though they rarely provoke the level of outrage seen in the Sherrod affair. This week, in a fit of boredom, I found myself leafing through a deeply silly book by William Kleinknecht, a crime reporter for a newspaper in New Jersey, portentously called The Man Who Sold the World: Ronald Reagan and the Betrayal of Main Street America. If it wasn't enough that Reagan betrayed, attacked, humiliated, and sold Main Street to corporations the reader is informed that after the 1980 election the United States was "turned over to…thinly-veiled racists." Nowhere does Kleinknecht substantiate the charge, but when the accused is Ronald Reagan, why bother?
This whole "debate," if we can charitably call it that, is a mess of straw men, hypocrisy, stupidity, and reflexive defenses of one's own tribe. It has nothing to do with fairness, journalistic ethics, or the immorality of dragging the reputations of innocents through the mud in an attempt at scoring political points.
Racism is the most powerful and toxic accusation in American discourse, one that derails careers and destroys futures. Yet despite its toxicity it is also the one that requires the least amount of evidence; the racism, we are told, is institutionalized or subterranean, so trust that it's being divined in good faith. Well, that won't do. Because there is no penalty for unfairly calling someone a racist, as David Frum points out—if it sticks, a point for your side; if it doesn't, who cares?
All of this will soon be forgotten, thankfully, and the charming and efficient pundits of Washington, D.C. will go back to observing the "racist" Tea Party movement and that stupid conservatives aren't stupid but "neo-fascists." And we'll be back to business as usual.

So how come no one has yet fused the worlds of Hollywood nerdiness and Washington nerdiness and started calling Spencer the Ackermonster?
He got fired from The New Republic for talking about how he was going to "skullfuck" people at a staff meeting. He is a real piece of work.
I'll bet he throws down some real fury and righteousness, along with a little truth-to-power, at DC poetry slams.

Do you have any idea how long this thread is? Are you really going to stare at this fucking screen for an hour, slowly scrolling through all the horseshit?
Yes you are, aren't you?
Oh, I forgot to say that, while most racists suck, and racism is awful, I've met some pretty fucking funny racists in my day.
Since being racist isn't illegal, I guess I can say that, right?
What's wrong with saying he was going to skullfuck people? Everyone knows only right wing ratfuckers find that offensive.
(runs back to MSNBC to be interviewed by Keith Olbermann)
You were never a good replacement for Michael J. Fox on Spin City.
Sounds like Spencer could be a good replacement for Rahm Emanuel.
That's racist.
Breitbart got had. He is too much of an reactionary.
Breitbart got had? How?
He released a video that was only part of the story. It was a shortend version of the total video.
Which showed how the audience reacted to her bigoted action.
Yup.
Suki and EAP you obviously haven't even seen the videos but rather have taken the word of Andrew Breitbart and his lover Matt Drudge no doubt, because there is no such audience reaction.
What are talking about you fuckwitted simpleton? Every time Sherrod speaks ill of white folks the audience cheers, applauds, and voices approval. Also, it's only one video, one long depressing video.
http://www.naacp.org/news/entry/video_sherrod/
+1
You're lying and you're doing it while linking to the video that disproves what you're saying.
You do realize that people can view the video directly and evaluate the audience's reaction, don't you?
NAACP claimed not only that no one in it was racist, but that no one in it would tolerate racist remarks anywhere near them. So much for that lie: The audience approval speaks for itself.
Here's a vid for ya. The "reverend" Farakhan, who demands members of the "gutter religion" pay reparations to African-Americans, addressing the NAACP.
Pretty popular guy, even in this non-edited version!
Ah retard whore Tony here as always.
Idiot that you are you missed Suki's point. Breitbart did post part of the speech where Ms. Sherrod reported her epiphany and that she was no longer a 100% evil racist. The media flaks and whores you regurgitate, the Journ-O-Lisps you felch and we smell on your breath every time you appear here, have lied about Breitbart's post. It was not about Shirley Sherrod being a racist (which she may no longer be), or even about the fact that she once was a racist using her power at a no doubt federally funded non-profit to smite people of hated races. It was about the racists in the NAACP who responded approvingly to her story when she had only gotten out the part about how she tried to make a white family lose their farm.
I don't know if you are black or not Tony. Perhaps you are not a victim of the modern slave trade where the NAACP and Democrats round up black kids and sell them to state lobotomy centers for educrat union dollars. You are a victim of the modern slave trade where they round up non-black kids and sell them for educrat unions dollars. Or maybe you were just born an idiot.
Come on, that was Breitbart's cover your ass story. That is sure as hell not how Fox played it. Their take was she was a racist. Don't get me wrong, I am not taking the liberal media's bullshit on this. I think the woman is still a racist or she would have nothing to do with the NAACP. Plus her comments pertaining to the present were racist. This shit for brains administration is racist and Obama as well plus he is a socialist. But Breitbart reacted too quickly.
Their take was she was a racist.
The more she talks, the more she proves that she is too.
You ignorant slut, did you know her father was murdered by a white guy who was not punished (all-white jury) and attended segregated schools? The moral equivalence you guys make with racism is really starting to wear thin.
Yeah, I know that you dick licker....so what? Life's a bitch. Suck it up. Fuck you, you little jackoff. Many families have had hardships....but to you it only matters if you're black! Fuck you a million times!
You ignorant slut
Wow, that was quite an intellectual rejoinder. But more to the point, has someone here supported the murderer of her father? If she was wronged by a white guy is it acceptable for her to go out and wrong an entirely different white guy?
Absolutely. Individual rights - and individual justice - are so 18th century. Only social justice is true justice.
Tony, such an eloquent response. Of course, she is fully justified at getting even with any random person, of a skin-tone she doesn't like, for what completely different people did to her family in the past. I take it all back.
Oh, now I understand. We have an emotionally damaged person who insists on carrying her tragic past into her present job. Well, by all means, let's see if we can't open up a cabinet position. What could go wrong?
Not sure if Tony is a girl or just identifies that way. Time will tell.
No, Tony is a rubbermaid trash can - he loves abuse.
At the risk of giving you-heartless-racist-bastard material to every Tony and Shrike on this board... SHE says her father was murdered, that a white guy did it, and that a white jury let him off. That's a good story for someone in her position to tell. I wonder how much of it is verifiable?
And your side uses the word "racist" so much, and in so many cases incorrectly, that it has lost its true meaning to most of the public.
The reader will notice that Tony has gently switched gears from denying her racism to excusing it.
I know she claims her father was murdered by white men. I also know she claims her bogus "farm comuunity" suffered 13 million in damages because the USDA didn't loan them a bunch of money, and after Vilsack handed her the cash, he offered her a job.
So, I won't say she is a racist. I don't think that word has much meaning left in it. But I will say that she is a race-hustling shakedown artist and welfare queen. OK?
Poor retarded whore Tony, unable to make the simplest distinctions.
Ms. Sherrod's tragic family history does not wash her clean of racism, anymore than a (e.g. white) racist whose racism was catalyzed by his or her rape or mugging or robbery by people of another race.
She was a racist and even appears still to be one (or at least a demented liar and libeler). She may have been one primarily because she was so traumatized and damaged that she is incapable of morality and judgement. That is sad and she should be pitied and perhaps given therapy. But she should never have held any of the jobs she had where she had influence or control over others' livelihoods.
my white aunt was killed by a white guy, and he was not punished by a white jury, of course it was a white community. Unfortuneitly her kids had to move to another town and they became the few white kids in a mostly black community and now they are racist. Is there a point to this comment I guess it is that blacks aren't the only ones who get screwed over
Yes, I agree. My point was Breitbart gets too excited. If he had slowed down he could have explained that he was trying to show that the audience was reacting in a racist way. There would have been no ambiguity in his intent.
The fuck you is for Tony.
The I agree is for Suki.
Isn't that what he did? That was certainly my understanding as I watched the video. I didn't give Sherrod a thought one way or the other (except to laugh at the clear moment she noticed a camera in the room). The point was the audience and that point was made clear up front.
I was replying to Wegie at 5:22 PM, I expected my post to go just beneath his, but it didn't for some reason.
But she had enough sense to reject Obama's proposed Watermelon Summit.
Sun, you forgot the fried chicken.
Wegie, I have heard comments from her since this story broke. Beleive me, she is still a racist that hates whites. To hell with her and the rest of the racist blacks.
I agree.
But... but... only whites can be racists! Jesse Jackson says so!
You ignorant slut
Really?
Hi Wegie i am Six feet tall have brown hair and green eyes.....
I am 6" shorter than you and I can kick Tony's ass. Just relax, but you can help with carcass disposal.
You mean you can lick my ass. You freaks of nature are all the same.
I am 6" shorter than you and I can kick Tony's ass. Just relax, but you can help with carcass disposal.
Whoa, John, you're fucking short for a dude.
That is sure as hell not how Fox played it.
Are you refering to the Fox that did not report the story until she was fired?
Yes! But that was not my point. They only referred to her racism.
Are you refering to the Fox that did not report the story until she was fired?
Damn. Are there like amnesia rays shooting from Hannity's ass?
Uhhh...no. No amnesia rays, but lots of dubthink from assholes like Toney.
I'm sure that the Breitbart talking point that this video is meant to prove the racism of the NAACP is just ass-covering. But that's okay because it's true. Ass successfully covered. Breitbart was still far too rash in this affair though and my confidence in him is severely reduced.
Two ass references only a few posts apart Tony?
Are you horny or hungry or both?
Neither, he's homesick.
Tony has a serious case of cranial rectal inversion.
He didn't read them because his head was up his own.
Not until after the White House and the NAACP had also concluded she was a racist and denounced and fired her did Fox even report on her. So, if you denounce Fox for that take, you should acknowledge the following the lead of the White House and the NAACP.
Also, the first Fox reports that I saw of it included that she also talked about how she realized she was wrong to discriminate against the white farmer.
I don't get all the anti-Fox stuff on this issue. It's just not fact-based..
He explained the context of the entire speech, and most of the speech was made available later.
I'm not certain if I even buy that she was vindincated, since in later she would go into the patented narrative about those who oppose Obama are racists, and looked a bit annoyed when telling a story about a white farmer buying a foreclosed land.
She was not even vindicated in the speech. The one little thing, how she did wrong by trying to fuck over a citizen that she was supposed to help, she felt bad about and fixed at the last possible moment. The rest, then and since, racist.
The real liberal narrative, and you see this both in Washington and Hollywood, is that if you apologize that makes everything better IF you fit the right profile. In a world ruled by situational ethics at any time that profile could be based on gender, gender preference, race or religion. For example, there's a big hue and cry over the building of a mosque in sight of Ground Zero. Most people would think this would rank in insensitivity about at the same level of having an Aryan Nation headquarters at Treblinka. But, because Muslims are a minority, they have to be given special attention. Never mind that the mosque could be built anywhere on Manhattan. Never mind that there isn't a huge Muslim population in that area. Never mind that it could send a subliminal signal of success to see a mosque in the New York City skyline to those radical Islamists that tend to use such things as recruiting tools. This plays out with Every. Single. Issue. in Washington these days. The power of the Overthink is in play and the rest of us are left hanging.
+10
You're right. Everyone who's not us should give up their rights to appease the most senslessly sensitive among us. In fact, since the people who perpetrated the attacks were muslim, we should just eradicate that religion altogether so that no one has to hear the word again, lest it hurt their feelings.
The sad part is that I believe if we do not get markedly harsher now--and fight this war on Islamic jihadis with some realization what we're fighting for, then later we will eradicate Islam. And that will scar the human race for a long time.
The Plain of Glass will reflect nightmare futures.
"...since the people who perpetrated the attacks were muslim, we should just eradicate that religion altogether..."
They were not just Muslim they were Islamists. Replace that word and I would say right on.
But, I would question, who was in charge of demanding she be forced to resign? I don't doubt for a moment that Breitbart was wanting it, but - when it comes down to it - was he really the one who went to the head of the USDA and nudged-nudge-nudged for her to be relieved of duty?
Geez: even REASON has been snookered to report that Brietbart "edited out" the parts of her speech in which she denounced her racist instincts? The version I of the video that I saw (the version that was available before Sherrod was fired) included that part of the speech.
Anyone watching the video understood that she learned a lesson from encounter. The message was crystal clear, and nobody had to watch the WHOLE video to understand it. The MSM wants to paint Breitbart as a liar because the MSM is irrelevant, and Brietbart is kicking their asses. So I understand the why the MSM is smearing Brietbart. But REASON, parroting the MSM narrative? For shame.
Another question, how is it confirmed fact that the widow of the farmer she was talking about in her speech is the same one that has publicly supported her? Did she mention the farmer's name in her or something? The MSM is rushing to treat these things as facts because it fits the narrative.
Finally, I'm pretty sick of hearing how "commendable" it is that Sherrod stopped being a racist 20-25 years ago. That would be sometime between 1985-1990. I'm not going to pat you on the back for waiting until 1990--during the second season of The Simpsons--to stop being an asshole.
How many farmers' lives did she destroy before she had that epiphany?
They obviously deserved it becasue they were muslim.
Am I following this thread correctly?
Anyone watching the video understood that she learned a lesson from encounter.
The lesson she learned, it appears, is to stop being a racist for a while and become a class warfare Marxist. Before she was sacked she was back to being a hardcore racist.

But false (or flimsy) accusations of racism abound?they are everywhere one looks?though they rarely provoke the level of outrage seen in the Sherrod affair.
There's something ironic about reading that line on Hit and Run.
I chose Philadelphia, Mississippi to kick off my presidential campaign purely at random!
Obviously Reagan was gay as Philadelphia means, in Greek, the city of brotherly love.
You know you can love your brother without having to LOVE your brother, right?
...you can?
but they were Greek.
Ummm, are you suggesting that the symbolism of Obama's acceptance speech at the DNC was sending a message? So he's not our first black president????
The sign on the Obama lawn jockey in my front yard says "I'm not Black, look at my mom."
If a person supports a state law, program or rule based on race, then its fair to call that person a racist. If a person votes for a candidate for public office based upon the candidate's race, then it is fair to call that person a racist.
Thus, supporters of affirmative action are racists and those that support the mandatory collection of data, by race, are racists.
Under any circumstances is it justified to be a racist
Most don't need justification. They are what they are. The probem now is the name has lost it's meaning since anyone oposing a blacks actions or behavior are considered racist.
I can tell you this... I have a lot less respect for backs now then I did 2 years ago.
Gotta problem with that? Tough shit.
JohnD calm down. You have missed the point of my question. I pretty much asked the question for the reason you state or for the point you are making. Perhaps I was too vague.
The black community in America is often in a pathetic position culturally which continues to undermine their collective respectability in everyone else's eyes. "They" feel they have so few standard bearers that they must defend and be obeisant to any defective, from Jackson, to Sharpton, to Obama, who has emerged to speak for "them" to the nation as a whole. Who then pulls them down in everyone's eyes by being such a sad representative.
Few people think a white in a position of authority -- Bush, the Pope, Phil Donahue -- represents whites in the way Obama, Sharpton-Jackson-Wright, or Oprah represent blacks.
Ayn Rand and Anne Wortham are correct to see that the root of this is treating people, including yourself, as part of a race rather than as individuals. But how to solve it in practice? Oprah, Morgan Freeman and Bill Cosby seem to have taken some steps.
Posted by someone in another thread:
CNSNews.com) ? The Obama administration is backing legislation that includes regulations requiring U.S. businesses to provide to the government data about employee pay as it relates to the sex, race and national origin of employees.
In an orchestrated effort that included a statement by President Barack Obama and an event at the White House featuring Vice President Joe Biden, Attorney General Eric Holder and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, the president and his cabinet endorsed the Paycheck Fairness Act.

CNS News.
The same lying fuckstains who Beck used to source his claim that Obama had broken his EO prohibiting public funding of abortion.
Find a decent news source or go back to Free Republic, you idiot.
Re: Shrike,
You mean the Feds are not funding abortions?
CNS "News" released an item falsely claiming that NM and PA were now funding elective abortions from High Risk Health Insurance pools in violation of the EO Obama signed.
They were proven to be liars by HHS and in a statement from Bart Stupak.
So Maryland isn't either? ABC radio news reported that for several days.
You mean those lying fuckstains at ABC? Feh. I'm just surprised they could take James Dobson's nuts out of their mouths long enough to utter that falsehood.
You mean when this dickwad administration says something that constitutes proof?
You mean the lying fuckstains in the Obama administration? I'm surprised Barack took Rham's nuts out of his mouth long enough to apologize to Sherrod.
"proven to be liars by...a statement from Bart Stupak."
Bart Stupak - now there's a real paragon of verity!
Seems at the least plausible, although the argument is not a simple black and white issue. Thanks to government being involved.

I assume factcheck.org is an okay source.
Can the cite police work up an opinion on this?
This is the wrong blog to assume anything on. Are you new here?
It has been my experience that factcheck.org is pretty left-leaning in their "objective" "fact" "checking"...
First, I have no idea WTF Free Republic is.
Second, I pulled it off Drudge.
Third, THIS is a true statement:
so I really don't give a shit where it was sourced.
Fourth, I already tell the government how much I make. It's called a fucking W-2 form.
Fifth, I already told the government my sex and race. It's called the fucking 2010 census form.
Sixth, there are many reasons for pay disparity between subgroups of humans and there is no proof it is due to racism or sexism. Correlation is not causation.
Seventh, there is nothing in the US Constitution that gives the Federal government this power.
Eighth, take care of THIS.

Under an income equalization scheme that would totally work. You'd both be destitute 🙂

Why did you do the Census? It was easy to ignore. And from all reports, like voting in Minnesota, the Census workers just make stuff up and fill out forms anyway. So you don't need to do it for them.
Just to add to this, the Obama Administration closed GM and Chrysler car dealerships partially based on race and gender. Fuck this racist piece of shit and his racist piece of shit friends.
Don't forget Ford. Ford wouldn't exist if we didn't bail them out.
Harry, I love your comments almost as much as Biden's!
And to sacrifice the individual at the expense of the group is collectivism yes? Would anyone agree that this is better than racism?
And yet Andrew Breitbart exhibited this behavior with the release of this tape and is quite proud of it. He brags about it during his Hannity interview.
The current national narrative is this:
"You're racist!"
"No, YOURE racist"
"Am not."
"Are too."
Everybody needs to calm the fuck down. I'm getting sick of hearing this word get thrown around. If you want to have a discussion about affirmative action or any other issue, it needs to be done without calling the other group racist.
The same can be said for Marxist, Communist, Fascist. Shit is getting out...of...control.
Not all affirmative action is based on race.
Someone has not watched the whole tape. The NAACP crowd reacted with glee in the first snippet that Breitbart publicized. Unless you think that is a reaction of shock to her initial callous actions.
The rest of the tape, as Mark Levin has pointed out, had plenty of racist/bigoted words by her and her statements afterward were equally bigoted.
Breitbart didn't fire her, the government did. Breitbart didn't even cause her to be fired. The only wrongdoers in the whole thing were her and the Obama administration.
+1
Even though FOX did not run any of the tape until after she was fired.
Fox posted it on its website well before she was fired.
Wow, a little link on their website while they kept it off the network until after. A link to something that was perfectly fine to post, btw, showing the bigoted audience.
Hey can FOX and Breitbart just post random pictures of all the Odumbie czars this week?
Jesse can you send Breitbart that picture of drunken Krugman hoisting a pint taken with a cell phone in some bar Reason uses as its B-roll Krugman footage.
If that's all it takes to abolish agencies and get rid of a neo-stalinist regime then Breitbart needs to post more not less.
And Glenn Beck was the first one to DEFEND her in the media when she got fired.
Kinda screws up the script, I know, but there you go.

So if Bush fired any of his employees or appointees the same day Keith Olbermann called someone a racist or a fascist, it would obviously be Olbermann's fault, right?
I wouldn't rank Olbermann with that level of importance.
If Olbermann called someone a fagot and Bush fired them, they would stay it is Bush's fault.
Pretty neat that Reason's coverage of JournoList attempts to rescue everybody but Weigel.
David Weigel remains the central mastermind of the Kochtopus. That proves it.
I'm disappointed in Reason for not calling out the juicebox mafia for what it was-a coordinated effort on the part of journalists to influence the reporting of the presidential candidates during an election. This is extremely serious and deeply troubling for those who believe in the importance of having a "fourth branch" that isn't beholden to the government itself. Some of the JBMafia ended up on the whitehouse staff which is outrageous.
The idea that this is so much navel gazing completely misses the point. Obama was allowed to waltz through the election without facing anywhere near the type of scrutiny that other presidential candidates have before, and the journolist scandal shows us that this happened on purpose.
Now we're stuck with a president who is slowly revealing the truth behind his politics, and they bear little resemblance to what he campaigned for during the election. Even worse, the folks who were deemed nutjobs for saying that Obama wanted to turn the US in to a Euro-socialist disaster have been completely vindicated by the current administrations policies.
Reason is failing to appreciate the gravity of what happened here and how badly it undermines our ideals of a free and independent press.

Maybe you fair-minded people should have scrutinized his policy and not frittered away your critical time on flag pins, birth certs, Rev, Wright, Bill Ayers, whitey tapes, and other assorted bullshit.
Oh- I keep forgetting. Policy is not your strong suit. Fabricated and edited ratfuck tapes and innuendo is.
Listen dummy, Ayers and Wright are a HUGE part of his policies.
Those are two people that had enormous influence in Obama's political career, and when people said "uh, hey wait a minute- Wright is a racist anti-semite, and Ayers is an unrepentant domestic terrorist who tried to kill police with pipe bombs, maybe we need to find out more about their relationship with our potential next president and his policies" those people were ignored and shouted down by the folks at JB Mafia.
Your excuses and volatile language don't make you any less of an idiot, or any less wrong.
Nigga please, I taught Lil' O all about the white devil.
So Wright's anti-semitism rubbed off on him so much that he hired Axelrod and Emanuel as his top two advisors?
You forgot Van Jones and Anita Dunn, btw.
The guy has the best cabinet in modern history.
Gates and Jim Jones in national security, Hillary at state, Summers and Geithner,.
I won't forget the ass-slaps that Bush hired and fired for a second.
But to you Beckerheads its always about these two-bit has beens from years ago... unreal.
So Wright's anti-semitism rubbed off on him so much that he hired Axelrod and Emanuel as his top two advisors?
Obama sat through several years worth of Wrights racist anti-America, anti-Israel sermons, and never thought for a second this might look bad for a presidential candidate? What the fuck was he doing there if he didn't at least partially agree with wright?
You forgot Van Jones and Anita Dunn, btw.
No, I don't care about them. They got fired for being retarded.
The guy has the best cabinet in modern history.
Not only are you a moron but you're also a comedian! That was hilarious, thanks.
Gates and Jim Jones in national security, Hillary at state, Summers and Geithner,.
Is this supposed to prove something other than what a disaster of an administration he has constructed?
If you think that anything you just posted proves your point AT ALL, then I'm completely wasting my time. And you still missed the point I was making about the Juicebox mafia.
But for a guy named shriek, it's no too surprising.
Tman,
Wright has said inflammatory things, but he's still a respected member of the Chicago black community. It's so weird that your huge overblown grievance is that black people get a little heated in their rhetoric about their grievances.
I think Obama's dirty little secret is that he didn't actually attend church that often. Not that he wants to advertise that.
It's so weird that your huge overblown grievance is that black people get a little heated in their rhetoric about their grievances.
No, stupid. That's not my grievance at all. If the Wrights of the world want to yell about whitey I'm could care less. What I do care about, and what you ignored, is that the JB mafia prevented and deterred any investigation of the relationships that Obama had between people such as Ayers and Wright by trying to turn around the question in to a matter of white America being racist for even assuming that there might be something bad about our next president having his political career nurtured by a racist anti-semite, and an unrepentant domestic terrorist.
Wright has said inflammatory things, but he's still a respected member of the Chicago black community.
Even if true, that does not say reflect well on the Chicago black community.
The "black community" respects Al Sharpton and Don King.So ya, not the highest bar around. Maybe part of the problem?
Maybe there's a community problem as well as a problem with individuals?
fuck.
Is that racist?
How about voting for a brotha cuz he's a brotha?
No, all races fuck.
Maybe it's none of your goddamn business who the black community looks up to? Nobody can outstupid and outcrazy you guys so let's not throw stones.
Well if I'm the subject of being the evil bastard because I'm white and that is in any way a part of some community leaders, any leaders, belief structure, I think I have grounds to at least question.
You're welcome to get heated with your rhetoric, just like others are welcome to call bullshit on your rhetoric.
Why isn't it our business? If "the black community" looks up to a guy who praises Qaddafi and Arafat, you don't think that's germane in a discussion of politics?
I really, really, really wish you white guys would stop promoting every black guy with a loud voice and ignorant attitudes, who manages to elbow their way into every controversy, to the position of "Leader of the Community". What "community" are they supposed to be leaders of? Blacks are just as diverse in opinions and outlooks as whites. "The Supreme Black Leader" spokesperson for all blacks is a WHITE fantasy, not a black reality. I don't recall appointing any of these "people" - always identified as "leaders" - to speak for me. Assuming that these "people" represent anything, other than their opinions and the opinions of their immediate followers is - dare I say it - racist.
Well said, Mike Giles.
I wouldn't look up to a racist prick like Wright any more than I'd look up to a racist prick like David Duke.
Nobody can outstupid...
But you do that every day, Tony.
"Obama sat through several years worth of Wrights racist anti-America, anti-Israel sermons, and never thought for a second this might look bad for a presidential candidate?"
I think you have it backwards. If anything, it gave him more credibility with a segment of his backers.
The guy has the best cabinet in modern history.
I just bet you dated ugly women in high school.
I saw better cabinets from the shop students in high school.
The guy has the best cabinet in modern history.
That, is fucking hilarious. No really.
Turbo Timmy
Hillary "Reset Button" Clinton
Larry "I sank Harvard" Summers
Did you really just list those three as the best in modern history?
Let's be fair, shrike... both Bush and Obama have hired some fucked-up staffers.
If you were intellectually honest, you'd admit it. But we're not holding our breath here at Reason's many comment threads.
The guy has the best cabinet in modern history... Summers and Geithner,.
Holy shit that's insane.
Nixon, Kissinger...
A bigger part of his policy is George Soros. It's not a coincidence that days after the Gulf spill Petrobras agents were turning up in New Orleans and Houston looking for deals on deep water rig rentals. And Soros got millions from his good buddy Barak to fund the whole deal. So it's nice we can pay for Brazil's oil exploration since this administration won't let us do any on shore or safer shallow water drilling.
Shrike, your stupidity is astonishing.
Obamas behavior and the company he keeps exposes him for what he is.
Your blind defense of him also exposes you for what you are.
I love this Shrike guy.
It's like watching a gruesome accident on the freeway. One in which people just can't help but look; rubber-necking to see the grotesque spectacle.
This whole Weigel/Journolist incident is the biggest piece of evidence since the whole Ron Paul kerfuffle that Reason really is afflicted with a serious case of the Beltway Fever, where connections are cocktails are more important than anything else.

Sorry, I should have read farther down. Fuck threaded comments.
I agree. It?s not about left journalists?s bias, it is about them conspiring to smear the opposition.
"Pick one of Obama's conservative critics, Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares -- and call them racists."
Ignore it if you wish, but if Reason is tarred by the same brush, don?t expect any sympathy from my part.

When the unexpurgated video was released, Sherrod was vindicated, offered an apology from President Barack Obama, the NAACP, Bill O'Reilly, and dozens of others quick to believe the racism charge, and offered her job back.
So let me see if I have this "vindication" straight. Shirley Sharrod's path of enlightenment went from "I was struggling with the fact that so many black people had lost their farmland and here I was faced with helping a white person save their land" to her discovering that "it's about the poor versus those who have"? Am I supposed to be impressed with the incredibly unenlightened epiphany and lateral move from one kind of class warfare to another?
The agricultural policies of the United States, as expressed through her once and future employer the USDA probably do more to keep the world in misery than everything else the United States tries to do to undo global poverty. If it really was about the poor versus those who have she would resign in protest over something as simple as the sugar and citrus policies of the United States. Agents of the USDA actively conspire to keep foreign-grown goods out of the United States by setting import restrictions, tariffs and price floors, all the while overpaying American farmers to grow things that can be grown much cheaper elsewhere.
I agree with your statement, but they're not paying all farmers. I'm not sure what the actual law stipulates, but you only receive subsidies if you have 10 specific crops growing on them(wheat, corn, sorghum, barley, oats, cotton, rice, soybeans, minor oilseeds, and peanuts).
The 10% of wealthiest farmers receive 80% of the subsidies.
So yes it is about the poor. What is humorous is that you and I agree on the policies you advocate, but for very different reasons.
By the way, in case anyone hasn't seen what Spencer Ackerman, the guy who talked about throwing people through plate-glass windows, looks like: here he is.
Everyone try hard not to run away cowering in fear at once.
Even I could kick his ass, but only without his permission.
A blogger named "Vox Day" has openly challenged him on his blog to a two minute mixed martial arts match inside the octagon.
This actually sounds like a great potential charity fundraiser; I'll bet dozens if not hundreds of guys would line up to bid on an opportunity to beat the tar out this little dweeb.
I'll do it on PPV in full leather. Bullwhips at five paces.
I'm so there.
Easily millions.
Two minutes?!
Oh I forgot it will probably take some time to catch him!
Not with a 4' bullwhip. *CRACK*
Blagojevich style hairline, lazy eye, cookie dough cheeks...you know, I do feel better about the universe, knowing that I am prettier than this man
There are absolutely no racists except for all black and latino people.
That's not fair. Black people as a whole love Latinos, and Latinos adore blacks. And both blacks and latinos embrace homosexuals like no other group, especially in California.
It's true. That's why Prop 8 was so soundly defeated.
You forgot how much they love the Jews.
That's some serious retro wit you're thrown down there.

Racism is the most powerful and toxic accusation in American discourse, one that derails careers and destroys futures.
Actually it is pretty cool that in the US everyone hates racists.
And it if ind it strange that everyone obviously understands this or it would not be an effective political tool yet they do not take that simple step that if everyone hates racists then there probably isn't much racism.
You are just trying to cover up your own racism.
😉
But the unfair charge of racism, fascism, and Nazism, correctly denounced when spouted by Glenn Beck, seems something of a regular feature on Journolist. A blogger named Lindsay Beyerstein wrote of Obama's opponents: "I'm not saying these guys are capital F-fascists, but they don't want limited government."
Isn't that a pretty common Reason magazine critique of social conservatives?
It is in the style manual, I hear.
SoCons are the shitstain on the country.
Not as much as progressives.
Two differences: First, reason writers rarely imply that social conservatives are merely small-f fascists.
Second, reason critiques usually take the form of pointing out that social conservatives concern themselves with the behaviors and values of other people that are really none of their business.
Man, Reason is really trying to nail down that cosmotarian thing, isn't it.
My take:
(1) Breitbart was aiming at the NAACP as a reaction to yet another baseless Tea Party racism charge. Boy, did he hit his target. Sherrod was purely incidental.
(2) Breitbart succeeded in making the NAACP look racist, succeeded in provoking them into making an unfounded charge of racism themselves, and succeeded in stampeding the whole lefty racism industry into suddenly pontificating about the need for context and the horribleness of unfounded charges of racism.
I would say Breitbar has, once again, achieved all his objective. In, you might say, spades.
(3) The more Sherrod is on TV, and the longer this story drags on, the more it reveals the racialism at the core of this administration. Every news cycle that includes this story is one they lose.
(4) Reason needs to get some perspective on JournoList. This was a group of journalists that actively coordinated with the Obama campaign to subvert honest coverage of the campaign. That is very, very serious stuff. They should all be fired. Every one of them.
And every other journalist should be calling for their heads. The fact that they aren't makes me (and others) wonder why the hell not.
Don't jump the gun. Reason's staff has not been named guests of honor at the next JournoList happy hour yet.
(5) Ezra Klein is the surprise guest speaker on the Reason Cruise.
And every other journalist should be calling for their heads. The fact that they aren't makes me (and others) wonder why the hell not.
Because they're all members of the Druish media conspiracy!
Now you are in trouble!
"(4) Reason needs to get some perspective on JournoList. This was a group of journalists that actively coordinated with the Obama campaign to subvert honest coverage of the campaign. That is very, very serious stuff. They should all be fired. Every one of them."
No. They should be charged for illegal in-kind campaign contributions because thats EXACTLY what they did.
Oh man. The temptation to use the Dark Side is indeed strong there. But those laws are BS, so go say 10 Hail Marys.
I say hoist them by their own petard then change the bullshit laws.
We're in a stronger moral position to repeal them if we're already using them (and hence giving up a weapon).
On the other hand, using them at all is questionable in itself.
Decisions, decisions...
Good, good. Let the butt-hurt flow through you!
I'll admit that it would be hilarious for someone in the Obama administration, or even Obama himself to come out and say we need to put an end to these false calls of racism. I'd also like to see them do it with a straight face. Lol.
He could start with a apo to Hillary.
If nothing else, Jealous' rush to judgement and then his 180 degree backpedaling skills should be indications that:
a. He needs to retire
b. He's a covert racist himself
c. NAACP is a struggling anachronism
d. All of the above.
You nailed it. Breitbart is miles ahead of the MetroCons and Libertopians on this one.

Of course, since we don't know the names of all 400 Journ-0-Lisps yet, we don't know how many OTHER Reason editors and writers are among them do we?
I am betting the diabolical Katherine Mangu-Ward or the nefarious Jacob Sullum will be discovered to be Ackerman's and Klein's right hand men.
This whole "article," if we can charitably call it that, is a mess of straw men, hypocrisy, stupidity, and reflexive defenses of Moynihan's own tribe. And Walker's.

Few have seem to point out the strange timeline of events, when Breitbart just posted the video in his website and then, a few hours later, the WHITE HOUSE sacked this woman summarily, and received a quick condemnation from the NAACP. Yet the lame-news media was quick to malign Fox News for everything - despite the fact that the NAACP had the ORIGINAL video in their possession.
The NAACP and the administration overreacted and nobody's saying different. But the original crime was Breitbart's and FOX's attempt to feed the ugly racial narrative they've been feeding since before Obama got elected, for partisan reasons. What I don't understand is why anyone would want to be a member of a party that relies on stirring up white racial resentment in order to gain power.
Re: Tony,
Nobody's saying ANYTHING. All major TV media (except Fox) is shifting the focus away from that.
Is the narrative you talk about parallel or consequent to the narrative we're given by the Democrats and the NAACP?
Instead of relying on stirring up black racial resentment in order to gain power, right?
Nobody's saying ANYTHING. All major TV media (except Fox) is shifting the focus away from that.
I just watch MSNBC, and they've been hammering both pretty hard for falling for another phony Breitbart stunt. Oh yeah I've still yet to hear a single apology for the smearing of ACORN.
Instead of relying on stirring up black racial resentment in order to gain power, right?
Examples? If I recall Obama ran a campaign based on hope and change, but I may have missed the kill whitey undertone. OH YEAH that was Michelle Obama's role--no wait, that was another right-wing lie.
The GOP has practiced for decades a strategy of stoking white racial resentment. You may be naive enough to think that attacks on lazy welfare queens and their various incarnations over the years has nothing to do with race, but GOP voters knew exactly what they meant. It's certainly not confined to blacks, though, they've managed to scapegoat arabs, latinos, and gays too to dig up some fear-based votes. And it's such a giant mystery why the party has shrunk to its old white core.
Re: Tony,
Who mentioned the campaing? YOU asked this: "What I don't understand is why anyone would want to be a member of a party that relies on stirring up white racial resentment in order to gain power."
The clear examples of Democratic leaders calling any who dared criticize Obama, racists, are out there, the most egregious being ex-President Jimmy Carter.
You're living in denial. Oh, by the way, I am not a Republican nor am I a collectivist. I judge actions, not skin color nor genetic history.
Living in denial is thinking that there is absolutely no racial element at all to some opposition to Obama. I will even concede that the accusations were sometimes unfair, but nobody has said all opposition was racial, while plenty of people are maintaining that there's absolutely no racism going on, which is just as absurd.
Re: Tony,
What a surprise - a leftist flinging a Circumstancial Ad Hominem.
Since it is impossible to know what's in the human heart, your assertion would be impossible to disprove.
Since it is impossible to know what's in the human heart, your assertion would be impossible to disprove.
Oh, come on! Of course there are people opposed to Obama primarily on racial grounds. It's politics to try to make the ignorant think they represent the majority of those opposed to him or his policies for any reason. There are racists on both left and right. There is no good reason to assume they make up the majority on either side, but that is what the opposition of each would really like us to think about the other. I'm not sure what's worse, that there are people stupid enough to believe it, or people cynical enough to manipulate the fools.
Living in denial is thinking that there is absolutely no racial element at all to some opposition to Obama.
So what? Really, what does that prove? I can easily say (and prove) that Republican and libertarian policies get opposed by Marxists. I will even concede that the accusations were sometimes unfair, but nobody has said all opposition was Marxist, while plenty of people are maintaining that there's absolutely no Marxism going on, which is just as absurd.
Papaya Marxists have absolutely no influence whatsoever over anything. I'm far out left and I don't know any. Racism has influenced this country's politics since its founding and until the old coots who were alive during segregation die off it still will.
Marxists organized pretty much every big anti-war demonstration of the Bush years. They teach in every major university. They get government appointments in the Obama administration until found out. Racists are now entirely at the fringes of politics, reviled by all sides. They certainly don't teach college courses.
I'll give you Marxist profs (Obama mentioned them in a famous passage from his book), but they have no political influence. And there are no self-described Marxists in the Obama administration and there never was.
Not that being a Marxist is self-evidently the moral equivalent of being a racist.
One could argue being a Marxist is worse: it's killed more people in the last 100 years than racism did, and it still has widespread currency and academic/elite validation in a way racism does not.
I'd much rather be called a Marxist, as there are fewer social stigmas attached to it.
Then again, most of the time, the word "racist" is used incorrectly, and as a smear to boot.
Van Jones was there for a while. And if "self-described" is the rule, then you must admit there are no self-described racists holding office as Republicans, or in Republican leadership positions.
Racism has influenced this country's politics since its founding and until the old coots who were alive during segregation die off it still will.
Wrong. It will be with us long after that. It's human nature.
nobody has said all opposition was racial
Bullshit. I've seen that stated many times in the news, both on television and in print.
There was definitely an anti-Judaic element in the antiwar movement .
And an anti-Arab sentiment in that video. So you agree that race ugliness exists? Just not among white conservatives.
OK if neocons are being racist point me to link covering Cheney, Rove and Bush Jr. attending the big Klan BBQ. Until then this sentiment is just bigoted Democratic fantasy.
In reality I think you are perhaps bigoted against a certain group, and spend a lot of time trying to paint boogymen in the shadows, to cover your rationalization.
You might want to go look up and learn about Jim Crow laws. Democrats can cry racism all they want, but history shows they've always been on the wrong side of the race thing. This attitude of moral superiority isn't justified, if anything they have the burden of proving their growth and enlightenment in basic Constitutional rights.
This is just such a pointless statement to make. If someone challenges Obama's policies, and then you say well I'm going to disregard that idea on its merits because I harbor the unprovable suspicion that the speaker may be motivated by racism, where does that get you? Why not debate ideas on their merits instead of throwing around unprovable accusations about racism?
Something like 97 percent of black Democracts supported Obama over Clinton, even though their platforms had very few differences. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a few of those people chose Obama over Clinton in part because he was black.
But where does that get me? I can't look at any particular black Democrat and know whether he chose Obama over Clinton because Obama is black or because he thought (then) that health insurance should not be mandatory and she thought it should be, which was one of the few distinctions in their platforms?
Since I can't judge any particular voter's motivations, I'll just debate him on the merits, thank you.
Cuz I have a lot more confidence in my ideas than needing to throw around base accusations of racism in order to avoid having them tested.
Now that is a surprise...Tony watches MSNBC...who would have thunk it???
+1
Ah, dog whistle politics.
Why feed the troll? If you reply to Tony he will then have to post back, and he can't work the blackberry and attend to his clients at the glory hole in the basement at Organizing for America too.
What I don't understand is why anyone would want to be a member of a party that relies on stirring up white racial resentment in order to gain power.
But stirring up class resentment is a-okay I imagine.
Not only okay, but one of the finest traditions of western civilization.
Tony,
I agee....why would anybody want to be a Democrat?
Are you kidding? You're immunized from every slur around!
Until they throw you under the bus, back the bus over you and you still have to ride in the back.
And why anyone would want to belong to a party that stirs up anti-white, anti-capitalist, and anti-individuality sentiments, is a logical mind-fucker as well, Tony.
"What I don't understand is why anyone would want to be a member of a party that relies on stirring up white racial resentment in order to gain power."
The Democrat's should be ashamed of theirselves
As for the NAACP-ers in the audience lauding Sherrod's saying she would discriminate against ole whitey farmer man... that supports Breitbart's contention that the NAACP harbors as much racism as the next buncha BS artists masqueriding as the "good guys"
WTF?
For weeks, there had been coverage of accusations by the NAACP that the Tea Party has racist elements that must be denounced. In that context, comes a video of a woman making shockingly racist comments to an official NAACP event that receives clapping and laughing and whatnot from the crowd.
But, the problem here is not lopsided claims of racism, but actually Fox News? Are you kidding me?
I've seen the entire 43 minute video. Part of it consists of an amazing story of redemption, that brought tears to my eyes, in which this woman claims to have realized she was wrong to discriminate against white people.
But also included is a strong implication that she only realized it was wrong to discriminate against POOR white people. Part of it is an affirmation that "it IS about black and white." Part of it is accusing anyone who opposed Obamacare of being a racist. Part of it was about how she wished she could find some honest black lawyers, not just some honest white ones.
On what planet is it not newsworthy that an organization getting TONS of coverage for its accusations of racism against the Tea Party thinks this sort of speech is perfectly fine? On what planet is it not worth looking into that a woman with such a racially charged perception the world is making decisions about how to ration government benefits?
We can all come to different conclusions about this woman and her views of the world. But if it's okay to question the Tea Party for what a few people do, it is also newsworthy to explore Shirley Sherrod, her speech before the NAACP and her position in the Obama administration.
A response to one of my comments is by Jesse Walker, who informs us that FOX had it on their website "well before she was fired". Not sure how long "well before" is.
More apologies. I just keep having flashbacks to the guy in "A Fish Called Wanda." Maybe they should have someone like that go around and demand apologies before the fact so that they are neatly typed for submission in a timely manner.
The problem is that people use the term 'racist' or 'fascist' when they mean 'asshole'
A lot of this could end, er, be exposed as ridiculous if the simple question, 'what exactly did the 'racist' say, do, or support that was 'racist?'
"so your saying that lowering the deficit is racist?"
"so your saying all conservatives, republicans, libertarians... well lets just cut to the quick - all white people, are racist?"
"Your saying anyone who disagrees with you is racist?"
By the way, as I've had black chicks, if you havn't had sex with a black woman (or a black guy, not that theres anything wrong with that) your racist.
OK Obermann, hand over the list of black chicks.
Black chick "man, his dick was small, and he didn't use it very well"

"By the way, as I've had black chicks, if you havn't had sex with a black woman (or a black guy, not that theres anything wrong with that) your racist."
You exploited black women for sex? Racist.
I'm down with the swirl.
Let's get one thing straight: whatever white people suffer as a result of racial bias, it is not and never will be morally equivalent to what black people have suffered.
Sherrod is not a racist just because she happens to address racial issues, which a lot of white conservatives would prefer to pretend don't exist, no doubt because white conservatives have a pretty fucking spotty record on the issue, historically speaking, and stunts like Breitbart's aren't doing a whole lot to dispel the notion that the undercurrent still exists.
Re: Tony,
"Morally equivalent?" You mean the judgment on an action depends on how much the actor's ancestors suffered?
That's true. She's actually a racist because she sees people in terms of race, that is, a collectivist mindset.
Despite the fact that racism is not a conservative policy, but a collectivist one (i.e. progressive)
Which is just as well, since that was not his point. He was merely showing the hypocrisy of the NAACP of calling a whole, heterogeneus group of people "racist."
That's right OM, every little privledged white devil born every second should be raised paying for the sins of some assholes' actions that shared their same skin pigment. Because that makes sense in the retarded liberal mind.
How do you even make it through the day?

Let's get one thing straight Like you know anything about being straight.
Ah.. The typical lib an-hominim.
Someday, the internet will learn the difference between ad hominem and insult. I hope.
Here's a little truth for you. There's always been bias. Sometimes it was religious (The Inquisition) sometimes it was regional (Any war) and lots of time it was based on greed. There will always be one group that thinks they are somehow superior to the rest. Right now, that group seems to be the Ivy League barnacles that claim to be running this government. They look down their noses at people they label as "rednecks" people who "cling to their guns and their religion." If that isn't a type of profiling, I don't know what is. Frankly we should be far more alarmed that the man who is in the White House seems to hold such biased views in regards to the majority of Middle Class Americans in "flyover country."
Good point.
Prove it.
Most black people in America today suffer because you Tony and your fellow racist whores in the Demwit toilet herd them into state lobotomy centers so you can get educrat union money for your campaigns. If we have race riots or even just food riots in the future, justice will require that you end up dead and dismembered as a result.
Most black people in other countries suffer because you Tony and your fellow racist whores who like socialism have kept them in poverty and war for decades.
You really don't have a right to live, or to speak. Not morally anyway. You are trash.

Breitbart has been pissed at the NAACP since Anita Hill tried to derail Thomas' confirmation. It isn't about race as much as it is about paybacks. Anyone holding that kind of grudge is alright by me. Especially when he lucks out and turns a trap into an example of Obama incompetence.

Dear Canadian,
English, motherfucker! Do you speak it?
Now y'all got to realize that race shouldn't matter when talkin' about equality before the law and such, but y'all got to admit that it does matter when talkin' 'bout Human Biodiversity.
None of y'all faggoty-ass, city-slicker "cosmotarians" will admit that the more melanin, the lower the average I.Q. I know this because I read it on a blog about evolutionary pyschology! The science is settled, but the freemason/zionist/new world order/lizard people conspiracy has been covering this up for ages. Sound familar???
CLOSE THE BORDERS!!! REMEMBER THE ALAMO!!! DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!!!!!!! YEEEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!
I completely agree with all of this!!!!! It is brilliant!!!! 😀
Alex, Mister Paleo is attempting to ridicule you. I know you are just having fun with him, but damn it! I just can't let Mister Paleo pick on you with impunity!
Come to Texas and say that. I will stomp you with my ostrich leather boots.

Reason should start sending out invites to the Journolisters it knows of for guest speaker slots on the cruise.
See my Ezra Klein comment.
I may go on the cruise and I really hope Reason does invite any Journ-0-Lisps who aren't good swimmers.
Maybe that Sally Struthers bitch or whatever the little ho's name was.
It might be fun to stand over her and laugh as her lungs fill up with water.
The lesson we should all take away is the one Sherrod expressed in the video: we all have prejudices, and we should confront them. I don't see the right confronting them, I see them lashing out.
Okay. I'll do my penance tomorrow. My knees are sore right now.
Who exactly is this "right" that isn't doing it's penance?
Tony and his fellow KKKers in the Demwit party are still presiding over failed segregated schools and he doesn't even know it.
Is his brain dead state an argument for euthanasia to put him and his family out of their misery?
Oh, and Breitbart and FOX are scum. This was an enormously successful week for the president, and they Drudged up another fake controversy that would inevitably dominate the media.
Tony, how are you going to confront your prejudices? Say those that you hold relative to Mr. Breitbart and FOX?
Well it's not cuz they're white.
Must the invocation of the word prejudice always be related to race?
Why is being critical of FOX News the moral equivalent of hating an entire race?
Why is being critical of _________ the moral equivalent of hating an entire race?
You're heading into thoughtcrime territory there, Tony.
By asking a perfectly valid question? wtf
Why is being critical of FOX News the moral equivalent of hating an entire race?
It isn't, but that's not the standard you live by.
Here, Tony. Let me help you:
Why is being critical of ____(health care legislation and excessive government expansion and spending)____ the moral equivalent of hating an entire race?
Now, Tony. What did you learn?
Tony was 'born' of thought crime.
Another enormously successful week for Tony's President, where he fell farther in the polls, people asked him to stay away from their campaigns, and Congressional Democrats came out in opposition to him on letting tax cuts expire.
It's hard to hear the news with your head in Obama's rectum isn't it Toney-Deaf?
Finally, Sherrod's message was about recognizing that race isn't the issue, poverty is the issue.
It so happens that by crapping on the poor as Republicans and libertarians do that they're crapping disproportionately on racial minorities. Be indignant about being called racists all you want; the real offense is your attitude toward the poor.
But she USED TO harbor "I hate white people" sentiments, and even if she has repented... hating every member of another race is just plain wrong.
IMO, the NBPP is just as fucked-up as any white-supremacist group, but according to some of your fellow travelers, Tony, it's somehow justified for blacks to hate whites. Some of them have told me the mere act of being against affirmative action is, in and of itself, racist. Top THAT shit.
I think you missed the point. She overcame her prejudice. You shouldn't condemn her for admitting she harbored them at one point 20 years ago, you should instead confront the ones you still do.
I agree that all racism is wrong. But here's the thing, no matter how racist a black person is toward a white person, that white person won't have suffered for it. It is still a leg-up to be white in this country. The language of white resentment that you're so ably parroting is not about equalizing races, it's about maintaining white privilege. Racism against minorities is uniquely harmful and should be confronted, not made the moral equivalent of the long-discarded prejudice of a black woman who had real visceral reasons to harbor them given her experiences with discrimination and worse from white people. She was able to admit she was wrong despite this, it's a good story. You're the one perpetuating ugliness.
"Racism against minorities is uniquely harmful and should be confronted"
You know what's uniquely harmful, Tony?
Holding grudges like teh frickin Serbs and Croats instead of just getting on with your life.
White racism toward blacks sucked. It sucked for a very long time. But whites are not the biggest problem that black people have any more.
You are the ones holding grudges! She overcame hers. Liberals have moved beyond past racial animosities much, much better than conservatives. This nonsense was started by right-wing hacks doing the ugly work of the GOP voter hysteria operation, and your're talking about black grudges?
Shut the fuck up, crackerfag!
Yeah, you really seem past them.
Liberals have moved beyond dwelled upon and set up entire cottage industries to exploit past racial animosities much, much better than conservatives.
FTFY.
What prejudice, Tony? Against IDEOLOGIES?
Or are you trying to insinuate racism on my part where there has clearly never been any?
ALL racism is ugly. I'm not going to excuse one form of it over any other, something you are clearly willing to do just to score one for Team Blue.
By the way, asshat: I've dated three black women in the last four years. Riddle me how that could happen, Mr. I'm Going to Fling the R-Word Around Haphazardly.
Predicted Tony response: you exploited them for sex.
It was a mutual exploitation. Full consent given.
Impossible if one party is a protected minority.
Yeah, you're right. I was guilty of hate crimes. And here I was thinking it was only just a few episodes of consensual naked adult fun.
Who was it that killed Lily Burk?
How many poor black kids did you send off to the brick warehouses and have gassed into stupidity this week Toney-Deaf?
You white racist motherfucker.
The luckiest blacks in the world live in the USA. The most unlucky blacks in the world live in African countries run by black leaders! And that is the way it is.
And the second unluckiest blacks live in cities like Detroit where black leadership has sold them out.
Tony, if by, "crapping on the poor", you mean, "not giving anybody privelage, even the poor," then you're right.
Remember when you were little, and one of your friends wanted you to cheat something for them? And you said no? And they said "What, are you not my friend?"
Did you learn anything from that?
I doubt Tony ever said no. Especially when class warfare is involved.
It's more the wealth envy, that's Tony's problem. Most libs harbor a deep resentment for successful people, because what did they do to earn it but oppress and cheat their way up - even if they didn't? (Exception: George Soros.)
Of course, they'll give passes to inherited wealth, as long as the family name is Gore or Kennedy, et cetera.
Tony was just offering me drinks in his mother's basement the other day. Why he needs to lure women in to laugh at him is beyond me. He must not get enough of that on the street.
Idiot. I tolerate women more than lure them. But I do get a lot of sex from men in my 25th floor apartment with a riverside view.
What a perfect example of elitist thinking.
That was someone spoofing Tony. It sounded sane and elitist at the same time.
Now we know why Tony is here at Reason regurgitating Tedium Tatters flatulence. He's too busy ordering old trolls off craigslist to blow to formulate a coherent thought.
Can't we all just get along?

Moynihan was about as insightful as the subjects he just brought up; Lame-O Mike, Where'e the beef?
Phoning it in today?
Obama is king of the racists bastards.
Only his white half.
The right wing paleos were exposed for the lemurs they are. Brietbart put a piece of meat out there hoping to provoke a feeding frenzy and they ate up heartily without taking a fair look at what they were eating. Turns out it was a shit pie.
Anyone who is not a right wing nut looking at the entire tape sees an inspiring story about overcoming a racism that would be understandable due to the tragic events that occurred to Sherrod. I don't see the crowd nodding and clapping to her relating racism (the only "racism" I note is that Sherrod referred a white man who talked down to her to a white lawyer and then later when she saw he was being underrepresented she spoke up for him-yeah, she's a regular reverse cross burner!).
But let's say they were "nodding" during such a tale. If you watch the whole tape Sherrod clearly signals this is going to be a story of her getting past racism, she signals that early on. If you've ever been to, say, a black church, you know its common to have a process whereby the speaker and the audience respond to one another with nodding, words to the effect of "keep speaking it", etc., as the audience and speaker 'urge' one another to the anticipated climax. These Southern rural blacks were likely identifying with how easy and tempting it would be to hate white people given how they were treated but that "God wants something different" from them to paraphrase Sherrod, namely to move past racism.
Of course all the paleos and cons here would have reacted to the racial murder of their father and regular racial terrorizing of their family with color blind optimism so they can condemn Sherrod for not being as saintly as quickly as they surely would have been. I mean, it's not like they are obsessed with reverse racism as the greatest sin of all time for some reason...
Face it, you guys got took for a ride, and worse, you jumped on the train cheering as it happened. Uncritical digesters of the product of the right wing media sausage making factory.
Busted.
Face it, you guys got took for a ride, and worse, you jumped on the train cheering as it happened. Uncritical digesters of the product of the right wing media sausage making factory.
Dude, we're not in the government; we're not the ones who fired her ass without examining the tape; we're not the ones who in a panic promised a full investigation of the speech we attended; so why are you addressing it to us.
Yes, the NAACP reacted as if they knew they had a problem of racism in their ranks, as did the White House.
It's interesting that they get no vitriol from you...
I wonder if there is any video of Farrakhan addressing them? Anybody think the audience reaction would be any different for his bigotry than it was for Sherrod's?
"Suki|7.24.10 @ 10:04AM|#
I wonder if there is any video of Farrakhan addressing them? Anybody think the audience reaction would be any different for his bigotry than it was for Sherrod's?"
Imaginary personality conjures up imaginary situation...
It's a valid what-if, MNG. Unless you're going to apologize for Farrakhan's seething hatred for whites and Jews...
Wrong is wrong. ALL racism is wrong. No free passes.
Wrong, skunk-boy! It's okay for me to hate you, because you are clearly a Jewbertarian!
Farrakhan NAACP Unity Summit, Baltimore, MD, 1997, just for you MNG/Tony/Epi. 2005 Black Mayors Conference. Were both groups "snookered"?
Funny how you "three" use that imaginary personality thing so often toward others.
Do you believe the Nazis were the first to land on the moon? What about the "Jooz" and 9/11?
I'm not sure what it would even mean to call the meanderings of the product of a schizoid mind crazy at this point...Anyone paying even a bit of attention knows "Suki" is a "character" which John T. for some insane reason labors to maintain so he can have two insane conservative voices on this blog...What can one say about a man who spends an inordinate amount of time pretending to be an ultra-conservative Asian woman on a libertarian blog?
Regardless, MNG, you called Farrakhan adressing the NAACP an "imaginary situation". Admit you were to wrong to the schizoid who proved you wrong.
I was referencing "her" post "I wonder..." It seemed funny for a hypothetical person to wonder about a hypothetical.
He does not pretend to be me and your notion of "ultraconservative" is pretty messed up.
Oh, you said "insane conservative". Makes sense coming from someone who thinks any disagreement with them is due to a mental problem on their part.
Oh, plenty of people here disagree with me without me knowing they are bizarre products of a deranged mind.
You're just the ones who in Lemur like fashion created the panic...Cheers for you!
Would you rather be at an NAACP convention, or in Gaza?
I am part of a group that created the panic?
Wow, MNG, I didn't know me and my friends wielded such political power!
You're just the ones who in Lemur like fashion created the panic...Cheers for you!
Really? Becuase it was the White House, and not BRRRRRRREIT-BART! who canned the racist. And "acted stupidly."
Wrap your mellon around that.
1. Never jumped on the train, and Sherrod's fine in my book. To me, the real problem of poverty in agriculture is Third World, and our policies hurt them tremendously. But if I equate her dismissal of that with hatred (as others above me have), I'd have to apply the same standard to the vast majority of Americans. I'm content just focusing on whether she was fired for a half-decent reason, and she wasn't. Not anywhere close.
2. Hot damn, if anyone got taken for a ride it was the administration. Yeah, cons predictably took to Breitbart's red meat, but they weren't her employer. Her employer was so damn afraid of fucking pundits that they fired someone. I've managed people, and I would never fire anyone without giving her a chance to defend herself. It's not that hard if you have an ounce of common sense and self respect.
"Hot damn, if anyone got taken for a ride it was the administration."
And it took a very small candy bar to lure them into the car.
Again, cons conure a controversy, cons express outrage over conjured controversy, and it's the administration who reacts to said outrage that are teh real villians...
Maybe I wasn't clear enough: who fired her?
Of course Breitbart and Fox News were in the wrong. That's pretty damn obvious, and I also obviously never said otherwise. What's also obvious, though, is that the administration was too fucking scared of pundits to verify the facts before firing someone.
Here's to adults with the common decency to make personnel decisions without caring what Glenn Beck might say about it.
The point is not whether Obama or Vilsack or whoever apologizes to Sherrod. The point is that this is a pretty clear trend, where the White House kowtows to socons, even (and perhaps especially) on issues that got Republicans thrown out of the House, Senate and Presidency, such as the War on Terror and all its ugly byproducts.
Here's to adults with the common decency to make personnel decisions without caring what Glenn Beck might say about it.
Funny part was that Beck was one of the first to offer Sherrod a qualified defense.
But everything Fox MUST BE DESTROYED BECAUSE IT'S EEEEVIL!!!!111
Not villians, girlie; cowardly slime. Dunham's puppeteers are so afraid of Breitbart that they hypovehiculated that bint as fast as possible.
So what's was your take on Dan and his documents?
Who is Dan?
Dan Rather. The guy who aired false information and then retired.
Did he ever give up his source?
Journalists are not required to keep sources confidential if the source lied to them.
His source was revealed. A smalltime partisan hack.
Another victim of the VRWC, an important journalist whose career was destroyed for the horrible crime of reporting the truth and merely having it questioned by right-wing protectors of George W. Bush, the worst president in the history of the United States. But that's perfectly just and okay, because those same right-wing outfits would never spread lies about President Obama.
How can you judge Bush to be the worst ever, when Obama hasn't finished being president yet?
On accomplishments Obama's the best president in my lifetime hands down, at less than half a term. Thank you, big Dem majority. I'm sure we have the next 2-10 years to look forward to endless vetoed bills about abortion and endless subpoenas and impeachment attempts.
I meant *positive* accomplishments, Tony. Obama's done lots of shit, but that doesn't mean it's good for us.
I'm a much tougher judge than you are, apparently. I've never considered any president in my lifetime to be "best", and that counts for JFK, though I was only three months old when he was shot.
Yeah well we disagree about whether the accomplishments are good. I was born in the last years of Reagan, so the pickings are admittedly slim. Clinton of course was second best, followed by Bush I, who was a fairly sane Republican, though now his son is considered practically mainstream compared to what's likely to crop up next time around.
Funny, you and I aren't that far apart on our assessment of Bush 2, as I failed twice to vote for him and failed as well to have any respect for the man... and yet, here you are, trying to paint me as some sort of fanatic over his career.
Bush the Elder, by the way, was the reason I quit voting for Repubs in general elections. Absolutely could not stand that man.
On accomplishments Obama's the best president in my lifetime hands down, at less than half a term.
Why don't you tattoo this on your forehead so that people in the future can be reminded of your fact-based assessments of "reality" under a President whose supporters will literally bite the fingers off of old men to support.
What's unemployment at these days, Tony? 9.7%? Average? With no downturn?
What was it under the worst President in history? 5.8% over eight years (right around Clinton's average)?
Yes, but go on with whatever you were saying. It's fascinating.
He was no one's victim.
...merely having it questioned by right-wing protectors of George W. Bush...
We can not allow these edicts to be questioned again!
The woman tells a tale of how her deep prejudice against whites morphs into a some half-assed Marxist class consciousness, and suddenly she's an ideal public servant in your eyes?
Remember your audience, Chuck.
A true progressive epiphany.
Troll alert: MNG is another brain dead Tedium Tatters whore like Toney-Deaf. Maybe Toney-Deaf found him on craigslist.
I just love that the NAACP is working so hard for my advancement, keeping track of loose affiliations of people with a political philosophy that differs from the president's. But hey, maybe they don't represent me I'm only half black. Do I even need their help for my advancement? Isn't it a little racist to presume I need help because I'm black, that may have been true 40 years ago but I feel pretty advanced now. But maybe I don't need help because one of my parents is white? Wow, using race to make any decisions seems a little stupid, maybe we don't need such race based groups anymore. Oops, did I just say the NAACP sucks, maybe I am a racist. NOOOOOOO!
I'm pretty sure if you are only half black they only represent half of you.
That falls sadly short of even The Great Compromise.
Which half?
"The other media-centric obsession was a selectively edited video released by conservative activist Andrew Breitbart, suggesting that a black employee of the Department of Agriculture discriminated against white farmers while working for the Obama administration."
WRONG!
1. Breitbart aired the total video he had received as cut by the NAACP itself.
2. His stated target was the NAACP audience's approving response to Sherrod's acknowledgement of her racism. It was others, after the video release, who pointed at Sherrod.
It's important not to tarnish Reason by your lazy refusal to do minimal homework, Mr Moynihan.
"Breitbart aired the total video he had received as cut by the NAACP itself."
Where did you get this information?
Multiple sources. I'm sure you will be able to find the news accounts. I'd start with the original Breitbart piece if I were you.
No, I am asking you. How do you know the NAACP cut it?
Wegie, they always cut it. Sometimes with amphetamines, other times with rat poison. Has it been that long since you had the true street experience?
Oh, we are still on the video. Never mind.
Some of you are acting like right wing versions of Tony.
Because they are.
That was just mean in response to a joke. I don't like you any more.
8:41PM was for Wegie.
My comment was aimed at Charlie.
Wegie, my purpose in posting was to comment to those up for listening. It most certainly was not so that I could be baited by you. Do your own looking up for a change.
Then I retroactively like you again, Wegie.
Another fine piece by 'not particularly reasoned'. Yeah, the right hasn't spent a week trashing NAACP's Jealous as racist even as it continually trashes the entire organization as racist. It's fascinating to watch alleged centrists like 'not especially readoned' lurch inexoribly to the right, abandoning any sense of fairness as it seeks to make its title oxymoronic.
Thank you! After driving time it's drinking time.
The tape is not specifically an attack on Ms. Sherrod. Seems that the point that is missed here is the Sherrod tape excerpt shows the NAACP acceptance by reaction to the reverse racism statement while at the same time critical of the tea party for similar behavior.
Allen,
I really do not think that point is being missed by anybody. Many are intentionally ignoring it to promote their racist agenda or to protect their media friends.
But there is no tale of reverse racism getting approval from anyone. There is a tale that, from beginning to end, was about overcoming racism. You don't know what you are talking about.
You missed the NAACP video on Breitbart's website again.
I saw the entire tape on CNN and you're just full of shit (more so than usual for an imaginary personality).
You should really give up proving how stupid, paranoid and insane you are. We got it, okay?
Last night, I thought the biggest shock here was it did not become a zombie discussion thread. After rereading the article I realize that it began as a zombie thread.
What is a zombie thread?
I thought you were around here way longer than me. You missed all the threads that went zombie?
Unfortunately, Sherrod has tarnished her halo and her claim to transcending racism. On CNN, she charged that Breitbart wants "to get us stuck back in the times of slavery."
Guess we humans are just naturally vengeful!
How to judge each individual on this planet (for dummies):
skin color = nope
character content = yes
You're right. You are physically repulsive.
3rd nipple phobia?
Only the one that is on your face
Like Canada... a country that was supposed to be a combination of American Know-how, British law and order and French culture.
Instead it ended up being a country with American culture, British know-how and French law and order.
Actually right now Canada is a country with relatively low debt, Conservatives in office, and a booming economy.
So Breitbart is the Michael Moore of the right?
How DARE you make fun of Michael Moore!
Compared to Michael Moore, Andrew Breitbart is a male model.
Doesn't this whole episode say at least something about the Obama administration? That they're so image conscious that they're willing to fire a top official without even the fa?ade of an investigation?
+1
Obviously. Putrid pussies and punks.
If you read the article "America's Ruling Class -- And the Perils of Revolution" by Angelo M. Codevilla, you'll understand the motivation of our "ruling class." More importantly, you'll know what we (the common folk) can do about these power obsessed morons.
I can't wait for the five years to be up and the Artic to still have ice. I'm sure Sen. Kerry will be amazed!! What an idiot.
If you read the article "America's Ruling Class -- And the Perils of Revolution" by Angelo M. Codevilla
It can be found here at The American Spectator. Interesting essay, but I'd bet the Reason.com crowd won't like it.
Actually the type of libertarian class analysis that article is derived from is something all Reason readers should be familiar with. You can find it in Rothbard, Franz Oppenheimer's "The State," "Atlas Shrugged," and the pre-Marx French classical liberals Marx plagiarized it from.
Well if ancestral heritage is a factor, can I be excused from being assumed as a racist? Most of my ancestors were Quaker.
Try again. Nixon was a Quaker.
I am also 1/4 Slovenian does that help either?
I just want to know what the statute of limitations for racism is.
If DC is the Hollywood for ugly people then Hollywood is the DC for ugly souls. Choosing the lesser evil, I'll stick with DC where trivial social games are played on a daily basis (as with everywhere) but it all revolves around issues that matter and impact the nation and world in a tangible way. In the 21st century Los Angeles and Hollywood is nothing more then a trap that thousands of bright eyed, highly intelligent young adults go to every year to throw away their careers. You can make a respectable career in DC and keep steady work in a field that makes a difference.
You can make a respectable career in DC and keep steady work in a field that makes a difference.
That's why it's so scary. Megolomaniac workaholic goons go to Hollywood to make movies. Megolomaniac workaholic goons go to Washington to change my life.
Which one causes the most damage?
It is amazing that all these little cogs in the imperial city think they and their lives and especially work have some meaning.
I had a client and friend who had a master's in public administration who worked for the State Department who was a libertarian. He once told me how he was terribly excited because the regulation he had written and been campaigning for for years had finally been accepted and promulgated. Of course I asked what the regulation was: he had spent years getting State to allow U.S. Embassies to be free to buy office supplies etc in either the local currency or the dollar, whichever would be cheaper.
Another client of mine was a Harvard Law grad who worked at the SEC and was a self-described Marxist. I learned that he was part of the small group that oversaw ENRON's filings, and I asked him what he had seen. And he answered that all their submissions were perfectly in order.
Listening to people in DC talk about their work, and seeing that they have little unemployment, few foreclosures (inside the Beltway anyway), etc etc, almost makes you want to see the place be swallowed whole by the earth.
Indeed "ugly Hollywood" is such an appropriate term. I always thought the young college students voting for the first time thought Obama was a contestant on "American Idol". They were voting for a celebrity not a president. Now that he is elected, it is plain to see they were right because in all his appearances, his positions, his attitudes, his words, those he "hangs out" with, he himself thinks he is the "Celebrity in Chief". Very sad. We need an adult. Someone who may not have diction but wisdom has in his words and ideas. Someone who may not be slim and trim and athletic but can stick to a budget instead of a diet. Please send Hollywood back to Hollywood instead of constantly inviting them to the White House. We need the bread part of "bread and circus", not the circus.
Eh, that sounds way more like Reagan.
No, no... we need the circus. Team Red and Team Blue slapping each other with huge plastic boxing gloves while stepping in elephant shit. On C-SPAN.
Fuck, I'd cough up pay-per-view money to see that.
R v. D ... Blunderbusses at 10 paces! Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!
Well any student who voted for him for such shallow sentiment who is now unemployed deserves to be so. Actions have consequences, something you learn if you ever grow up.
Breitbart never at any time accused Shirley Sherrod of racism, or even implied it. The exculpatory, redemptive video clip taken from the same speech was available on his site at the same time the first was. His point in presenting the first edited video clip was not to expose Shirley Sherrod as a racist, but to show the reaction of the NAACP audience to her story.....they loved the story she told of NOT helping the white farmer, and why she didn't. They laughed, and applauded the story....BEFORE they knew the redemptive ending. That was the point of the video clip. The edited clip was a shot at the NAACP. There are really two separate stories here....the NAACP being painted by it's own racist brush, and the knee jerk reaction of the White House in firing her without due process.
"They laughed, and applauded the story....BEFORE they knew the redemptive ending."
See, you haven't seen it all then, because she clearly prefaces the story with how after her father was murdered she dedicated herself to helping black farmers but God would show her a better way.
You're full of shit.
The following is from the transcript of the speech and comes BEFORE the story of the "white farmer."
"When I made that commitment, I was making that commitment to black people -- and to black people only. But, you know, God will show you things and He'll put things in your path so that -- that you realize that the struggle is really about poor people, you know."
Going into the story it was plain to the audience it was about overcoming reverse racism.
Class always trumps race for good Maxists.
Class always trumps race for Maxists.
They look like they are on equal footing for MNG.
Keep those goalposts moving figment!
Wrong diphthong, if you'd watched the video you'd see Sherrod wiping out her racial bias from the beginning about how old evil whitey law that caused her father's white murderer to go free. Her continued comments just further prove her bigotry. How can you miss that?
Also, it is worth pointing out that she is member of an organization that is based on racially bigoted agenda. They specifically exclude whites in their goals for "national advancement and achievement of colored peoples". If she was so racially "learned" why the membership and banquet of honor from the bKlan?
LOOK AT THESE TWO DEMOCRATIC LEADERS, AND HOW THEY ARE GOING TO AVOID THOSE 'HIGHER TAXES'!! THEY ARE DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO -- DEMOCRATS!

100%, totally and completely correct. You won't find the MSM commenting on that nuance. The NAACP is a racist, divisive, self-interested, smarmy and vile organization. Like unions, whatever good they stood for is long in the past. The country as a whole, quietly, detests the NAACP, as it well should....
I"m not sure I might be a racist I am conservative, but I am so busy trying to make a living that I haven't had time to examine the subject properly so that in itself is inexcusable and I must turn myself in and accept whatever punishment the masses demand
Don't fall for the white guilt thing. If you have never done anything to oppress anyone, you don't owe anyone jack shit.
That's why reparations are bullshit. It would punish completely innocent people for crimes committed by long-dead fools.
And as we all know, the inequities and injustices of a society are all completely erased with each new generation. That's why libertarianism will work!
Never said anything like that, Tony.
Riddle us this, though:
Dude from Norway immigrates to the US, gains citizenship, gets a job, yadda yadda... but BAM under reparations, this guy who has never had anything to do with the plight of any minority, has to cough up money to pay back people he's never known, much less had the chance to oppress.
Is that fair?
I'd bring up the "how would a half-black/half-white person pay reparations" question, but that might blow your little mind.
I refuse to feel guilty for anything. How, pray tell, have I ever had the ability to oppress anyone? I've never had the power to not rent a house or apartment to anyone (nor would I exercise said power on the basis of race), nor the power to hire or fire people (management is power, and I hate power). So... tell me, again, why I owe anyone anything.
How many people in this country, for that matter, fit that criteria?
If you like, insert any other nationality in place of Norway, and apply the same parameters.
But it still adds up to bullshit on the question of reparations.
Eh, I'm not for reparations of those kind (though I am for reparations for Iraqis). I'm for decreasing the wealth gap in this country.
This sideshow about race has mysteriously distracted from that whole conversation. Almost like it was planned that way.
Then why the vigorous "you're a racist if you don't agree with it" defense earler?
But let's address the wealth gap. Take every penny owned by just one multi-billionaire - Gates, Soros, take your pick.
Now, give all that away in equal dollar amounts to, say, one million lower-class people.
Then... tax 'em on it, because they're suddenly rich.
Watch as it fails miserably.
Meanwhile, I'll eat popcorn, drink beer, and enjoy the circus.
Because the top 1% owning 42% of the wealth in this country has worked out so great.
But race does enter into it. If white people were experiencing the depression-level jobless numbers that black people are, I bet you more money would be thrown at the problem!
Have we made ZERO progress in the last fifty years, Tony? Are we not evolved at all from the days of fire hoses and whites-only drinking fountains?
But keep playing the wealth-envy card, while you're holding the deck. It's a pointless game, but you play it so well.
We've had diminishing returns since the wealth gap has been increasing. How much is too much before you stop resorting to cheap psychoanalysis in order to evade the issue?
Tell us how we can legislate egalitarianism, Tony.
Without fucking the Constitution in the ass in the process.
All paths lead to the same destination with Comrade Tony.
Oh, yeah... forgot. Thanks for the reminder.
He'll take what you earn regardless. The justifications just keep changing, but he's taking your shit. Period.
Fuckin' right! Piss on you capitalist pigs!
Got that right, Tony. People who make over a hundred grand a year, should be paying 75 cents on every dollar "earned".
TLG would probably benefit from my tax plan, if I correctly remember his working joe credentials.
Hey if I have wealth envy what is it called when poor libertarians prostrate themselves in worship of the rich they will never join?
Oh, great, now it's back to the "you don't earn ENOUGH money" argument.
What is it with you people and your obsession with how much someone earns?
BTW, I don't want any "benefits". Just leave me the fuck alone, and I won't ask for jack shit. I don't take handouts, I don't WANT handouts, I'm not *entitled to* handouts.
Well too bad because we can't just rebuild civilization every time a new person is born. So you're getting its benefits whether you like it or not. Besides, you can always leave. What you can't do is get a free lunch, unless you're in a pretty bad place, in which case I'd hope that we as a people would be charitable enough to provide at least that.
Who says I get a free lunch?
Oh, the old bullshit argument of how we benefit from slavery, many many decades later. I remember now.
But I still don't take charity. I'd rather starve to death.
You're going to take health care, and you're going to pay for it... and if you can't, we're just going to take it from you anyway, so you can pay for it.
But it's NOT a tax increase, even though it IS a tax increase.
What is wrong with the wealth gap?
Michael, you tell me. A CEO on average gets 400 times the pay of one of his workers in this country. Elsewhere it's more like 20 times. What explains that difference? Did the CEO really work 400 times harder than the worker, and 20 times harder than his counterpart in another country? Or is the system rigged in his favor, perhaps? I don't think the free market calculated that figure.
Indulging in wealth envy makes me feel better.
Who cares?
Does anyone care that Ludacris gets paid a lot more than the sound people?
Or that Oprah Winfrey makes much more than the camera man?
If white people were experiencing the depression-level jobless numbers that black people are, I bet you they wouldn't vote for Obama again.
Eh, I'm not for reparations of those kind
Well I'm in favor of slavery reparations. There are millions of acres of government owned land in this country containing valuable energy resources that are currently unavailable for development. Hold a lottery and hand out clear title to 40 acre sections of ANWR, or land with oil or gas reserves to the descendants of slaves.
If the NAACP is actually concerned with improving the lives of black people, they would instantly start advocating for the removal of drilling restrictions.
Shouldn't that all go to the descendants of slave owners who had their inheritance stolen by the reconstructionists?
Reparations anyone?

"This sideshow about race has mysteriously distracted from that whole conversation. Almost like it was planned that way."
Hush, child. You'll give away My Plans.
Boss, d'ya want I should have him roughed up a bit?
Can't touch Tony. He's gay, and we'd catch no end of hell over it... unless we spin it into a Republican-based hate crime. False-flag operation. This might be a good idea after all.
I can fix this. I know people who will break legs for fifty dollars American. Not to worry, comrades, we will keep this "Tony" from disclosing further plans from Glorious Brown Leader Man.
The Sherrod video certainly has many teachable moments. But what does it teach us? Is it that Breitbart is to blame for posting a brief excerpt that clouds context? Or is it that the NAACP got "snookered" and Obama and USDA jumped the gun?
Each party appears to seek Sherrod's exoneration for different reasons.
Folks seem to focus solely on the farmer issue.
Despite her saying the farmer explaining his situation was an attempt to be superior, for the sake of argument, let's say that she eventually found a way to see common ground and came around to seeing him as worthy of help.
Appparently..her epiphany on irrelevance of race does not extend to differences of opinion:
23:59 "I haven't seen...such mean spirited people (Hmm), as I've seen lately (Hmm!) over this issue of health care. (All right)
Some of the racism we thought was buried...didn't it surface.
Now we endured 8 years of the Bushes. And we didn't do the stuff Republicans are doing because you have a black president." (applause)
I wonder how many folks have watched the "full" clip. Seems to me the most disturbing portions aren't being discussed. Take a look see. Remember, this is a government official speaking on the record.
The (almost) complete speech as posted by NAACP:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9NcCa_KjXk&feat;...
17:15 (on the white farmer she helped, that claims to be friends with her)
He talked a loonng time..trying to show he was superior to me. I knew what he was doing, but he came to me for help."
(Is this how the farmer fondly remembers the meeting)
18:35 "It IS about white and black"
21:03 point of edit..not sure how much time elapsed before the laughing trailed off.
22min or so (discussion of history of indentured servitude, how white and black slaves got along, intermarrying and the history of rich people using laws of division to prevent poor people from banding together as one to fight for change.)
22:40 "The people with money..the elite decided..hey..we need to do something here to divide them. So that's when they made black servants, servants for life. That's when they put laws in place, forbidding them to marry each other. That's when they created the racism that we know of today. They did it to keep us divided. And they..it started working so well, they said gosh..looks like we come upon something here that could last for generations. And here we are ..over 400 years later..and it's still working.
23:25 What we have to do is get that out of our heads. There is no difference...between us. The only difference is that folks with money, want to stay in power. And whether it's health care, or whatever it is, they'll do what they need to do to keep that power." (applause)
23:52 It's always about money, y'all.
29:14 (on signing checks for grants and loans)
80 million and not one dime to black business.
29:56 One of the programs we have with some of the most money in it, you know, is for business and industry. And I sit up there and I'm signing off on 6 million, 3 million, 2 million.. But who is it going to? (long pause..crowd mumbles) Not one so far. And when I got a report on where we are with it, we are approaching 80 million dollars since October 1st. But not one dime to a black business. Not one.
30:49 "There's a program, the 1890s scholars program. And they're connected with every 1890 land grant institution. And let me tell you what that is. That's the black land grant institutions, and there's about 17 in Tuskeegee. They..you can actually get a scholarship, and fort battle state is the main grant, in Georgia..the 1890. The 1862 is the white land grant. That's the University of Georgia. You can get a scholarship. And every summer, you work in one of those agencies while you are in school. And when you get out, it's an automatic job."
31:38 Agencies like natural resources and conservation services. That's in RCS. Farm service agency. That's the old farmer's home administration. Rural development. Uh..those are the major 3.
31:54 "But there so many other, there are other, so many other jobs..so many..just in rural development nationwide there are over 6,000 employees. But you go up there to Washington, to the department of agriculture, it's on both sides of the street!"
32:08 "In rural development, there are 129 employees. Guess how many of them are people of color. Anybody want take a guess? That's in Georgia. I've got 129 in my agency. How many (audience:2) It's more than 2. (12.) A little more than 12. There are less than 20 of us. We have 6 area offices in the state and sub area offices..
32:38 And when I look at who's coming up in the agencies, in the agency. There's not many of us."
36:19 (on value of helping others)
"You could be helping the second black president"
39:43 (on direct loan program)
"That program is so successful, we're about to run out of money"
Apparently, Shirley is more than willing to dig her hole deeper, while AC turns a hole into a pedestal.
http://www.powerlineblog.com/a.....026837.php
Even when AC forays into Breitbart's, apparently very recent, quote about her full speech tarnishing her sainthood, he doesn't call her to task on what she actually said. She is the gift that keeps on giving. But folks seem to have difficulty actually opening the wrap. AC does look very serious though. Very serious.
I don't think discounting race issues is possible when the president was in part elected to herald a post racial era. From Gates gate to AZ law to Sherrod, the administration and the president himself have repeatedly demonstrated premature opining, initial action and reversal of action. The media, news or otherwise, play into this scenario via expected, respective and selective interpretations.
But what is most ironic about this latest installment is the denouncing of faulty context and manipulation or ignorance of the facts, while while being ignorant of their own manipulation of the facts.
NAACP "snookered"? That's the same as admitting they are inferior to their opponents of other races. I smell a fundraiser.
"the second black president"?
*ahem*
I thought you were supposed to be the handsomest president? You can't have your cake and eat it too.
Both sides do the snip snip I got you crap. While watching the coverage this week, I saw a possible teachable moment but it would have required the conservatives to step up and show a definite case where the liberals/progressives had done the same to someone as had been done to Sharrod. If they had, there could have been a nice discussion about how they are all guilty of slime but it'll never happen by either side since they have too much invested in the tit for tat system which has been institutionalized. I wonder where the adults have gone. They all need, at minimum, timeout.
Rich...
You poor thing. You are shocked that a black woman whose father was murdered by a white guy and who, lest we forget, saw that white murderer let off his crime by a white jury... you are surprised that the said woman has different take on America from yours? You're shocked that a woman whose mother had to fight off the Klan has different perspective to your own?... You libertarians are not only naive but utterly dumb too.
What is amazing about Ms sherrod isn't that she said the completely understandable and reasonable things that exercise you so much but that she isn't an out and out racist. That she could find it in her heart to go the extra mile to for a white man... a white southern farmer! That is miraculous for me. I wouldn't do it and neither would some of the knuckle scrapping dim wits posting their moronic comments on here...
But as usual with you dim bulbs you want to harp on about nothing... Ms Sherrod isn't a saint like you! Thank God I say!... I am still struggling with the idea that a magazine that trades under the name "Reason" can contain such stupid articles, not to talk of the neanderthal and racists comments. Having said all that Briebart and his cohorts trade on a system of 'inversion', where the racists are presented as those being discriminated against while the objects of discrimination are presented as racists!.. And a request to the Tea Party movement to police itself becomes an accusation that the TEA Party as a whole is racist, as if NAACP would be so stupid as to go after what Tea partiers think rather than what they do IN PUBLIC. By the same token I guess that knuckle-headedness can be presented as reason. it's all about a parallel universe where up is down! Weird.
Johnny,
"she could find it in her heart to go the extra mile to for a white man... a white southern farmer! That is miraculous for me. I wouldn't do it"
Words matter. And yours speak volumes about your own racism. Maybe you work for Sherrod?
Rob,
I'm glad to see someone a bit uncomfortable with her other comments. Her message seems to be the USDA is a gravy train worth lining up for. How teat it is.
You are missing the point. The point isn't so much whether to reach some ultimate conclusion about Sherrod's views. It's about the context: the NAACP calling on the Tea Party to more vociferously denounce any racists in its ranks and then hearing some of the language that is used at NAACP events. That is why the issue is worth exploring, not because we are here to sit in judgment of a lifetime of experiences that make up Ms. Sherrod's view of the world.
Sarah,
I agree with you to some degree. But when the pendulum goes from taking one quote out of context to ignoring other more questionable quotes..it becomes important to see those quotes as well the NAACP reaction...and to question why so many want to brush those quotes away. But yes...her lifetime of experiences may shape her views, but they don't inherently excuse her statements..especially if we are to believe the post racial epiphany narrative.
Hi, Rich. I just wanted to let you know that my post was directed at Johnny, not you. 🙂
Forget Sherrod's racism. Doesn't anyone have a problem with the Dept. of Agriculture giving out home loans?
I have a problem witH them even having that department.
What's wrong with having more bureaucrats than actual farm owners?
I mean, if I was a farmer, it would be much more comforting to have ten bureaucrats tell me that the gubmint was going to pay me not to grow crops than just one or two.
Was that an episode of "Green Acres" or a whole season?
"reflexive defenses of one's own tribe."
Bingo. It's so obvious now--each side lobs self-righteous rants and accusations back and forth, convinced of their own superiority and enlightened views. Primitive and narrow-minded, they can't see how predictably reactive they are to every issue, with little "reason."
example A: see "Johnny" above at 7:19 a.m. He thinks he is oh-so-smart, and he is programmed to repeat his own tribal point of view with sanctimonious tunnel vision.
Looked like a copy of several comments from different liberals.
Fran...
Please do tell me which bit of my "tribal" point of view you find particularly irksome. The basic stupidity of people like you is this idea you all appear to espouse of a kind of moral equivalence between what some of the morons posting on here call "reverse racism" and the actual, harmful and debilitating racism that minorities have to face in America even today. Between a woman who had her father murdered and a vile piece of garbage like Briebart whose nose is out of joint because some black man may just be President!... Yes I said it; there's still white racism in America today and a lot of it is out there in the Tea Party gatherings!
There's nothing sanctimonious about pointing out that a woman whose father was murdered by a racist, a racist that escaped justice because of the racism that the woman saw with her own eyes as a 17 year old,... that woman shouldn't be expected by anyone to hold views that a white American holds.. or views that people at Fox find comfortable. Not unless the individual making such a demand is an utter fool. Rich will have to speak for himself.
Ms Sherrod's America is different to yours and Rich's and she has every right to articulate her view of America without a dim witted pedant like Rich wimpering about it or you spouting off about sanctimony. And here America is all too real and in some ways still with us..
America is still a racist society... it is getting better but some of the comments on here show that there's still a looooooooooooooooooooooong way to go. One thing is clear though... in the journey to a non-racist America Libertarians represent, at the very least, a serious bump in the road. Whether it is wilful or down to ignorance or just plain stupidity I really don't know.... or care. You lot are becoming more and more irrelevant.
Johnny,
You are so right. There is along way to go..at least with Shirley and yourself. I have no disagrrement with you that there have been many racist injustices perpetrated in the hpast. Does taht give license to more racism in response?
Shirley's willingness to get beyond race only applies if she feels the person shares the same political views. If a Republican disagrees with a particular version of "health care reform", obviously the only motivation is race. She said it and the NAACP crowd ate it up.
Then Shirley tells Cooper that Breitbart wants blacks to be slaves again.
You talk about a looooong way to go.
With infantile and inherently racist sentiments like Sherrod's (and yours) expected to be excused, the distance just got longer.
Between a woman who had her father murdered and a vile piece of garbage like Briebart whose nose is out of joint because some black man may just be President!... Yes I said it; there's still white racism in America today and a lot of it is out there in the Tea Party gatherings!
You think Sherrod should be given a pass on her racism because her father was murdered by a white guy? Or that blacks and other minorities aren't morally culpable for their racism, because some of them have had it rough in this country or Whitey has treated some of them badly? How many white people have been raped, robbed, or murdered by blacks and other minorities in this country? Would racism on their part be understandable - or would it be condemnable because their experience in America isn't quite the same as Sherrod's?
Oh yes, you and the other race pimps in this country make it perfectly clear. Minority people aren't racist, but if they are, then it's okay, because somehow it's justified. In other words - black people don't shit, but if a "vile piece of garbage like Brietbart" manages to prove that they most definitely do shit, then it doesn't matter because black people's shit smells like Hershey Bars. You are fucking laughable, dude.
If you have any proof of racism in the Tea Party, perhaps you'd like to offer some evidence of it. Your attempts at reading people's minds by projecting your own hatred don't count. You and the hypocrits in the NAACP can put up or shut up.
Tribalism and elitesim together. Are you the witchdoctor?
Sir,
In your picture I see the smouldering urban charm of a younger Billy Crystal. If I were female or gay, I would definitely date you, if I were Jewish, assuming you are Jewish.
Cordially,
Neil Ferguson
Yuma, AZ
What is tribal, and racist, is the fact that 97 or 98 per cent of black voters chose Obama. I have chatted with dozens of black folk since the election and every one of them admitted that race played a role in their decision.
Sure, some denied that race played any role in their decision; but, after some probing, their racist, bigoted, ignorance manifested itself in their admissions that the coffee must rise to the top and not the cream.
Racism, thy names are:
Barack Obama
Michelle Obama
Van Jones
The National Association for the Advancement of COLORED People
The Congressional BLACK Caucas
The United NEGRO College Fund
Louis Farakan
Maxine Waters
Duval Patrick
Charley Rangel
Spike Lee
Isiah Thomas
Fred G. Sanford
We get it. You're pissed that you can't have a white caucus or white pride without being seen as a neonazi psychopath. Boohoo you're so oppressed.
You simultaneously deny the legitimacy of black people's grievances while parading YOUR grievances around as if you're in a fucking slave boat.
Retard Toney-Deaf farts out another one.
How many black kids have you bussed of to the state lobotomy centers today Toney-Deaf?
I'm an American of Mexican descent... And because I'm an American and also believe in equal rights... I don't join groups for just Mexicans to talk about how my cousin Pancho Villa got killed by some gringos and I deserve handouts because I got called a beaner. That's sniveling dog shit you're peddling.
Stop being a baby and just shut up bro, you've lost and argued yourself into a circle. You brought a spork to reality gunfight. You are wrong, this is not the first or last time you will find yourself in a similar situation. Learn to deal with it, or you'll forever be a boy Tony, and never a man Anthony.
Don't listen to him, Tony! You're hilarious just the way you are!
What, I lost the debate because I'm outnumbered by slack-jawed racists?
libertymike listed a bunch of important black people and black organizations and declared them racist, one and all, excluding any mention of any white racist or racist organization, as if racism is only possible coming from black people. This is the depth of the bullshit Rush Limbaugh has dumped into head, and it has become such an important narrative to the right that it trumps all sanity.
The only people I see playing the "race card" these days are white cons who use the language of the left to call out all those bad racists like the president, Shirley Sherrod, and let's not forget Sonya Sotomayor. I challenge you to name a single black or latino Democrat who hasn't been smeared as a racist by these fools.
But I know the score. The old coots still clinging to the confederacy aren't dead yet. They've repackaged their anti-black and anti-latino sentiment many times over the years. Now it's come full circle, appropriating the language of racial grievance, seriously trying to get people to believe that whites are the most oppressed group in Obama's America.
It's okay when WE engage in hate speech.
Dude!!! How in hell could you leave Jesse and Al off the list?!
Tony, what evidence do you have to support your assertion that I am pissed that I can't have a white caucus or that I would join such a thing?
If you have not noticed, I am not a joiner of groups or organizations, being the rather pronounced individualist I am.
I'm just projecting, Mike. You should've easily drawn a conclusion, concerning my nature and intentions, from my obsessive compulsive fascination with race.
For now I feel comfortable living in denial...
The important thing about the little fantasy of shoving conservatives through plate-glass windows was the motive -- "to let the right know that it needs to live in a state of constant fear." They are thugs. They are terrorists, which is why they have so much trouble condemning other terrorists. They sympathize with their methods. Give them real power, the power to really imprison or harm people, and they'd be in the front of the line for the next Reign of Terror, Cultural Revolution, or Killing Fields and give each other special Walter Duranty Pulitzer Prizes for helping the cause.
I just don't see equating stories about Paris Hilton and about the President firing a member of his cabinet as "Hollywood gossip." I think the President firing a member of his cabinet (wrongfully or otherwise) has always qualified as legitimate news. Even if you don't happen to believe in the bureaucratic-statist mess that is our government, it's still news.
Unless maybe you don't believe in "news." I can definitely see that point of view, but that would be a whole other type of story...also, if that's how he feels, Michael Moynihan really picked the wrong profession.
I suppose from a Libertarian perspective, the idea of one cog in the two-party machine being replaced with another isn't "news." But if that's the case, then we should really ignore everything that's happening in America since it's all at the hands of team purple.
+1
We have some people on this list defending the wisdom of their moving and working in DC, like that little minor character in "The Fountainhead" who runs some federal social work agency and comes back to Manhattan and remarks how everything important happening is really in DC, and then other people saying none of these stories -- Sherrod's racism, Rangel's looting, Edward's lies, Gore's assaults, Wright's insanity, Obama's evasions, etc etc -- are not important, move along, keep moving folks.
You all are a bunch of racist fucks, now go and get me a beer, motherfucker.
This whole thread is like a microcosm of exactly what the article was portraying.
Libertymike, you stepped over the goddamn line with your Fred G Sanford bullshit...Poor wittle mikey a victim of reverse racism, get the fuck over it.
Let us all be whining fucking victims that would be sooo much fun...Whaa, black people are racist against me, someone change my diaper, shut the fuck up.
I am a poor white working class guy, and the day I start whining about an oppressed white male American is the day I put a fucking bullet in my head.
In conclusion fuck this thread...I'm outta here.
Who said I was a victim of racism, reverse or otherwise?
Further, which of the folks and groups in my list does not belong? Hint: He once sang, "Just Donna and me, and the Dummy makes three." Get a sense of humor!
Mike, if there is one thing that makes me angrier than white male "victimhood", it would be taking the great Sanford's name in vain. So, excuse my angry post.
Still standing here saying "fuck this thread", though.
What is your favorite episode? For me, its a tie between (1) the first show after Redd Foxx ended his strike when the premise was that he was returning from St. Louis and (2) the episode where a japanese company was buying out the neighborhood and Fred saw it as an opportunity to really cash in, stating, "son, we've got em by the teriyaki."
The B.B. King episode was pretty sweet, but I always liked the one where all the old guys decide to throw a party and invite the young girls.
I also liked the later ones with the fat white guy, after Lamont left to work on a boat or something.(most people hate these episodes)
This makes me want to watch the show again, it has been years.
"I am a poor white working class guy, and the day I start whining about an oppressed white male American is the day I put a fucking bullet in my head."
Hummm, I wonder why you're poor.....could be your stupidity. But I do like the idea of a bullet in your head!
Being on the wrong side of a boot licking, bed wetting, pants shitting statist such as your cowardly self is proof that I am doing something right.
Maybe I should feel sorry for you though, pity for the victim as it were. Let us all be wegie's mommy, holding him up to our breast, and shielding the poor thing from those mean black racists. Poor baby, wittle wegie, sooo oppressed.
What are you even doing here anyways, don't you have a sister to rape, or a picture of Scott Brown to jack off to?
"What are you even doing here anyways,..." ANYWAYS????? ANYWAYS???? I am right you are a fucking idiot. "....Scott Brown to jack off to?" Hey thanks for asking, but as you know your momma does that with her lips.
You could at least deny the fact that you rape your sister, jeezuz man.
I'll have to ask my mother about her jacking off to pictures of Scott Brown with her lips...weird.
Don't worry wegie, I know that behind all that bluster is a scared little boy, afraid that somewhere a negro is getting away with racism. Don't worry, wegie, you can use your self-pity as a blanket to protect you from all of the oppression that you face.
I guess your anger could stem from the obstacles you face as a white man trying to make it in this racist world. Damn the man! Shit, if only the world would give an incest prone, shit talking, victimized troglodyte like yourself a chance. I bet if it were not for affirmative action you would not even have the time to grace us with your presence...because you'd be President!
Vote Wegie, for an historical first crackhead honkey bitch president! count me in!!!
Anyways(???LOL), I appreciate your blunt evaluation of my intellect, but I have to go.
".....I am doing something right." Why don't you really do the right thing and do that "bullet in your head" thing?
Wegie, man you are angry! lol!
Just because you face a torrent of black racism every day, and spent you childhood being raped by your father, is no reason to take such an angry stance. Jeez man, chill.
Poor capitol is too dumb to know what's going on. Just treat him like what he is, a baby playing under the table while the adults talk, who every once in a while burbles and throws a toy or takes off his diaper and imagines he is participating in the conversation.
Since the late 70s or early 80s everyone, whites, blacks, browns and yellows, has been the victim of "liberal," not white, racism, since the primary forms of racial victimization in this country are:
1) Demwits like Toney-Deaf and MNG forcing everyone, including especially black kids, to go to failed, de facto segregated, state monopoly schools from which 1/3 drop out and most of the rest "graduate" mentally stunted, often illiterate, and often unskilled and unemployable. While pretending that this is not the case. And while taking campaign money from educrat unions to keep silent about it. And while pretending that they aren't therefore virulent racists.
and
2) Using the smear cry of "racism" to stop any and all reform and silence all independent thought.
Tony and MNG are racists.
Bruce, that really hurts, and I mean that. I was just trying to elevate the conversation, just like you do with your cerebral commenting style.
So, I realize my mistakes and intend on bringing insightful analysis to this thread, as you would do. So I have studied your posts, and found them to be a wonderful resource of intelligent mature conversation:
I may go on the cruise and I really hope Reason does invite any Journ-0-Lisps who aren't good swimmers.
Maybe that Sally Struthers bitch or whatever the little ho's name was.
It might be fun to stand over her and laugh as her lungs fill up with water.
I like when you take a name for something and change it for humor...Journ-O-Lisps,so witty!
How about this one:
Two ass references only a few posts apart Tony?
Are you horny or hungry or both?
Man, you really challenged his accepted beliefs there, but in a thoughtful manner.
Oh here is another favorite:

Obviously. Putrid pussies and punks.
I like the "+1", it lets everyone know where you stand in a firm and serious manner. Not to mention using all those "P" words...that looks hard!
I'd quote your brilliance some more, but I need to study your method for calling people "retards" and then accusing them of racism further. Also if I could nail that name/change/insult thing down, then my writing would have a much more seasoned and mature style.

...Gettin' there!

Mature style?!?! More like MANURE style! HA!!
Did I do good??? Can we join the adult conversation now?

Bruce Majors is Majorly dumb! hahah!
Rich...
Let me make myself clear. If my father had been murdered by some knuckle-scrapping, hood wearing Neanderthal... and then let off by the members of the community in which I lived who knew about the murder but chose to protect one of their own... I'd most probably have sought revenge. I make absolutely no apology for saying so. And as far as I'm concerned every single member of that community who didn't speak out would be fair game.
But isn't that what bothers clowns like yourself? You guys are terrified that African Americans are harbouring genocidal thoughts towards their fellow white citizens because of the unspeakable cruelty that they had to endure at the hands of their white neighbours. That is the real unspoken fear driving the right wing morons like Briebart... MLK can talk about justice, the equality of man and appeal to the bible all he wants, Obama can turn the other cheek and try to reach out to the other side from now till kingdom come and none of it will mean squat!!... even Colin Powell was accused of being a racist by your God and master Rush Limbaugh. Idiots.
Briebart and clowns like yourself are involved in projecting what you'd do if the tables were turned unto African Americans most of whom are too busy getting on with their lives.
You've convinced yourselves that the African Americans want revenge and nothing that African Americans say or do can assuage your fear. Me, I say let both you and the Briebart's of this world squirm. Be terrified!! They're coming to get you, Rich... Boo!
But what I really find bewildering though is the fact that you have the balls to pass any kind of judgement on Ms Sherrod. A clown like you on a website and blog that contains some of the most outrageously racist claptrap I've read in a long while (none of which you even saw fit to challenge, in fact you're wallowing in the racist bilge like a pig in swill) ... and yet you feel qualified to call a woman whose father was murdered by a white man, a woman who, nevertheless, went out of her way to help a white farmer and his family retain their farm... You feel qualified to call her racist? How stupid are you exactly?? This woman had to intervene to rescue the said white farmer from an incompetent and possibly corrupt White lawyer who couldn't be arsed to help a farmer of his own race who was in need of his help ... and YOU feel qualified to call such a person racist?? Were you born this foolish or is there a university were idiots like you go to have their idiocy burnished?
Ms Sherrod is better person than I'd ever be and personally I think that part of the problem with the USA is that there are way too many Ms Sherrods amongst the African American community. People who are much more humane, caring, altruistic than any of us have the right to expect... people who really are shining lights of the American dream.
You, on the other hand, can see racism in Ms Sherrod and NAACP but none in the Tea Party. Rich... you missed your calling; try comedy. That you proffer such utter rubbish SERIOUSLY makes you a person to be pitied...
I didn't even mention the Tea Party. If Sherrod is better than you'll ever be..that's speaking very poorly about your sense of self. Now I understand why you can't come to terms with her racist statements. They are documented and you can only suggest reasons to excuse them and level unfounded accusations at others.
Furthermore, by your reasoning, she and perhaps others must be harmed to the point that no one can reasonably expect them to be anything other than racist.
For a Washingtonian, you are kind of cute.
Does anyone here have a link or thread to the original story of the murder of Sherrod's father? I would like to see the story.
I may be a little late here, but I just had to get this out to Tony.
What about the old African kings and queens who enslaved (and sold those slaves to other countries, like the U.S) their own people? They were black, so under the idea of reperations, wouldn't black people have to pay too?
Silly that you don't know history enough to understand that black societies -gasp- had slaves as well.
Silly that you don't know history enough to understand that black societies -gasp- had slaves as well.
And that Arabs were central to the slave trade, so they need to pay reparations. Also, slavery intensified in the early 18th century while England still ruled the colonies, so really England is the one who should pay reparations for the harm done. We just inherited the mess, so we aren't to blame. We finally had to have a war to fix it.
I don't believe in slavery reparations and I'm so not interested in talking about slavery.
I want a more equitable distribution of wealth in this country, with maybe a few policies that target minority populations simply because of the fact that they are more heavily burdened by that gap for historical reasons, but that's secondary.
Michael, I think you're HAWT!

To help observe Reason's 40 years (congratulations), take a look at a few recent books that are most informative for your readers, who may have missed -- or ignored -- a few things in the past few years. John Dean's trilogy, Worse Than Watergate, Conservatives Without Conscience and Broken Government, sheds light on many things. You'll find the Tea Party (not by name, but by inference) and political hacks galore, framed by a background of Constitutional history and law. Readerw will gain an amazing understanding of why the country ends up in a heap by the end of every period in which the GOP -- and authoritarian conservatives -- are allowed to wreak their havoc unchecked. It might also help you understand why soulless ideologues like Breitbart are even referred to (by some) as journalists.
Are you shilling? Or just unable to contribute a more specific comment? Oh..you did manage to label Breitbart a soulless ideologue. Thanks for dropping by.
tony,
you keep saying that you want to fix income inequality by helping racial minorities, because there is correlation between them?
why dont you just say you want to fix income inequality by giving poor people money from rich people, regardless of their race?
i suspect 2 reasons;
1. it makes your marxist class envy seem to brutish, simple and trasnparent.
2. fighting for racial equality is the highest badge of honor in your intellectual circle, so you want to put it into your cause so you can be morally superior.
I'll say it wholeheartedly. But that's because I recognize a difference between earning wealth and having wealth, and the right of the people to a progressive tax system.
*too*
i need a car to drive
my elder brother!
then why do you dance around conflating income level with race. just because there is some correlation?
and i see you on here railing against unearned wealth. show some data that demonstrates that a high percentage of it is inherited or ill-gotten. otherwise we are just trading anecdotes. and all the wealthy people i know earned it, so your anecdotes mean nothing to me.
I mention race because it tickles me. Libertarians can't account for the much higher poverty rates among blacks except by either invoking a racist explanation or, more charitably but not much, by saying "tough shit." If there are historical reasons rather than reasons based on some inherent flaw then you have to be okay with saying luck, even the luck associated with the color of skin you were born with, is an important factor in one's wealth throughout their life, and you don't care and don't think anything needs to be done about it, no matter how unfair society remains.
Mind you, neither explanation precedes libertarianism. Whether history or inherent inferiority, it's still a genetic lottery, and once that is acknowledged the free market of rational actors becomes a lot more complicated.
Oh something needs to be done about it alright.
1) Black children must be given no alternative to being milled through pre-incarceration centers run by Tony.
2) The products of this education must be kept dependent on a crumbling infrastructure funded by the enemies of Tony.
3) Any deviation from Tony-approved class and racial resentment must be policed from within with social cattle-prodding.
4) A hyper-masculine, misogynist, homophobic, pro-criminal ethos seemingly at odds with liberal white virtues must be apologized for by the defenders of equality.
5) Racial tensions must be manufactured and long dormant resentments revived by equating any opposition to rampant statism with racism.
It's called "Helter Skelter."
It's your burden to carry, as I explained above, not mine. You're either a racist or you think society should operate by darwinian rules. I'll gladly assume the latter for all of you, but I'm still gonna ask why you think that's the most just society.
Most of us want, at very least, laws against the initiantion of force, fraud and theft and for the government to intervene when they are broken and that courts should mediate where property and contract disputes occur. None of these can be found in the Origins of Species.
Fuck that. I have no burden to carry. I have never, nor will ever, oppress ANYONE, Tony.
Fuck you and your bullshit theory.
You have had some success in assignating what MY burdens shall be in this nation. Moreso in your wonderful utopias. But no, it's not your call. You're not the anti-christ. You can't tell me, "Pick it up," with the authority you lust for. Not that easy. Not yet.
umm, i can give you a set of reasons (nothing this big ever has only one reason) for the increase in average income disparity between blacks and whites over the last 40 or so years, when it had been declining significantly before that.
public schools became shittier as public sector unions gained power(this coming from a teacher). teachers could not be fired, more funds went to administrators instead of more teachers, and accountability became a joke.
and as our nation shifted farther and farther away from blue-collar jobs (ie car manufacturing in detroit), black males were not able to transition to white-collar jobs in sufficient number. these two things combined to allow a significant percentage of black males to be chronically unemployed.
it is not sexist to say that a large percentage of young men who are not working will look for trouble.
so many of them slept around, had children out of wedlock that they didnt care for, and over-used illegal drugs.
being that such drugs were valuable due to the black market surtax, fighting over territory and money became more acute. gangs had a lot more value to fight over, and decided that gun violence would be worth the collateral damage.
welfare solves none of these problems. redistribution does not either. some conservatives have a bit of understanding of the problem, but their conclusions are backwards. they think the breakdown of marriages and the skyrocketing out-of-wedlock births are the cause of the problem, and that the solution is to push for marriage to go back up.
but the problem is that the marriage and out-of-wedlock birth problem is more a symptom. there arent enough black men with gainful employment (who arent in prison for drug offenses that white college kids get away with every day) to be fathers and husbands to all fo the families that need them.
the truest ways to help black people are ways that libertarians are constantly talking about 1) break the monopoly on education that unions have on black children, and 2) decriminalize all drug use.
its not surprising to me that my black friends who are most successful are the ones who went to a private school (even if they were the crazy envangelical schools, and experimented with drugs while on a college campus, so that when they got caught, jail time was not a consequence.
tony, it sounds like you would have no problem with any libertarian positions as long as they couched them in the same bullshit as the social democrats in the us do.
if we just said we wanted to do all the same things, but said it was for social justice, concepts of fairness, sensitivity, and niceness, then all would be well.
but imagine this nightmare scenario; what if those mean jerks like old mexican have a better way to increase the welfare of most people by the fastest rate? and what if it was a byproduct of their jerky selfishness?
Before the Breitbart/Sherrod/NAACP brouhaha boiled over, the NAACP diktat regarding the Tea Party was assessed by right-wing commentators as an attempt by the Left to divert attention from the economy and unemployment in the coming electoral campaign and to focus it on the usual racism complaints.
It appears that that goal was accomplished; we're now moving well into the second week of ignoring the economic plight of our country and the continuing problem of unemployment.
Mission accomplished.
Gee! a blogger/reporter takes someone from an opposing group out of context to further a point for his group and the world goes ape-sh*t over it.
Many biased news media outlets take 30 second snippets of film or tape to expose or promote a pet view of their own; and try to control the narrative Gee how original...It is called a soundbite, and it has been going on for years.
Brietbart exposed the underbelly of the NAACP so what? Has no one here been to a black congregational church before (and not Rev Wright type stuff) to see you would get the same reaction as the NAACP audience. It is not news except to the truly uninformed.
Article is very nicely written and I am happy to find so many useful information here in the post, thanks for sharing it here. I hope you will adding more.
