Actually, I thought the brilliant comment they had was in the first episode. They produced a "drawing of Mohamed" and everyone winced --- only to see a classic stick-figure drawing. "oooh, um, is that alright?" They then edged their way up to the prophet in a truck (just showing a truck), and then the prophet in a bear suit (just showing a suit). Pretty slick commentary, I thought.

I just watched the show. It's up, as broadcast, at xepisodes.com (where it's "streaming," but so slowly you should let it start playing the credits, hit pause, go away for a couple hours while it buffers the whole thing, then watch it). It's truly disturbing.

I don't blame Comedy Central as an organization for being a collective ass-pussy. They're what organizations do.

But someone there, one person, agreed to paste piercing test tones (bleeps) over huge chunks of the show's audio tracks (about a minute in total), then did it, saw what he made, thought it was a job well done, and went on home for dinner under the mistaken impression that he's still a member of the human race.

Now, if anyone knows, or were able to figure out, who the actual bleeper was, and where he went for dinner, and that knower or figurer were able to maybe GoogleEarth that location for us and capture the screen while doing that and then slip that video up on Youtube under the name "My house...FROM SPACE, yo!" for example, well...TO BE CONTINUED, y'know?

Don't blame the audio editor, not everyone has the ability to just walk away from a paying job to hold up a certain principle. Stick in any soul-draining job long enough and you either learn to live with it or go crazy.

I don't support what Comedy Central did, but there's another angle to these kind of situations: the people liable to get killed are going to be receptionists, security guards, and mail room staff. Like if the Discovery Channel aired a live abortion in graphic detail one night, the CEOs are going to be fine but the poor girl working the Discovery Channel Store at the mall is going to be the target for every wackjob in her area.

The best case would be Comedy Central not airing it at all, releasing ownership over it, and Matt and Trey show it uncut on their own website.

Why is this? Who would be out there making threats if the Discovery Channel aired such footage?

It's even hard to run highly tame ads praising mothers who choose to give birth without the network in question getting pressured to call it off, including legal threats.

That is an odd example, given that pro-lifers regularly get savaged in the media for displaying graphic images of aborted fetuses at their rallies, and trying to put such imagery on highway billboards.

The pro-life movement seems to be the go-to example for liberals (and apparently "libertarians") looking for a counterpart for militant Islam within Christianity.

My reason for making that distinction is this: it's one thing for you to publish something controversial, or say something controversial in public and bear the consequences. It's a different matter to push those consequences onto your employees who had no part in the matter.

Imagine if UPS decided to rebrand its trucks with racial slurs. The executives will be protected, but the drivers are going to be the ones facing the consequences of that speech.
