"I'm like, I don't want them coming through my door with guns drawn, because I love my dog."
Seems like we may have reached a tipping point in the public consciousness when the biggest fear of a couple who were mistakenly delivered a large package of marijuana is not that the drug dealer who sent it will come barging through their door, but that the SWAT team will.

They shouldn't have given their real names to the paper. Now they'll get SWATted for sure.
The comments to the Post article are just appalling. The most common point seems to be that these people had it coming because they didn't call the police immediately when they got a "suspicious package". I can't find a single comment expressing disapproval of the police behavior. And there seem to be hundreds talking about how goofy these people are for taking their story to the media. And there are at least five that I counted accusing the Calvos of being radical right wing nuts.
My general experience is that the commenters on the Post run about 80/20 liberal. Considering that, it doesn't give me much hope that liberals will ever come around on the drug war or police power in general.

Not too surprising, I guess. Since the liberal/statist mindset is that the state is responsible for everything, you should call in the agents of the state whenever anything the least bit unusual happens.
Seriously, who calls the cops when they get a package misdelivered to their house?
I have people's mail from months ago which was wrongly delivered. This is now certain to be a crime since I did not report it to the police..
""Not too surprising, I guess. Since the liberal/statist mindset is that the state is responsible for everything, you should call in the agents of the state whenever anything the least bit unusual happens.""
But why would you call this the liberal mindset, it's exactly what the authority would expect you to do too. Republicans love to bow to authority.
I would be torn. On the one hand, "Never come to the attention of the authorities" is always a good rule. On the other, "Call and tell them what the deal is before they kick down your door and shoot your dogs" is also a good rule.
The "good news" is that they were actually aware of the Calvo raid.
Wow, thats some pretty scary stuff dude. Seriously.

This sad state of affairs cries out for a universal program in the public schools, complete with furry mascot and cartoon textbooks.
"Don't open that box!" says Freddie the Fox.
That is frighteningly realistic PB...did you work fot the Dept. of Ed?
Stop. Drop. and Roll.
I think the furry creatures clearly must be dogs.
Unsuspecting Owner Puppet: "Hmm, what's the strange package? Oh - someone's at the door."
Fido Puppet: "For the love of God, don't open the..."
SWATZI #1 Puppet: "Open up, SWAT!! Hey, they gotta Cujo Killer Dog!!"
***BLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMetc.clickclicklick..***
Unsuspecting Owner Puppet: "Noooooooooo!!! Fido!!!"
SWATZI #2 Puppet: "I think you got 'im..."
Fido Puppet: "I...told...you...not...to..."
I like.

Most proscutors and military intel folks would agree. Hell in the NYC subway, the anti-terror folks want you to call 911 when you see a suspicious package. The mantra is see something, say something
Sounds like an abstinence only slogan.
And let's not forget "Duck and Cover" if someone sets off a nuke in your neighborhood.
It is sad/funny that "I don't want my dog shot" may prompt people who otherwise wouldn't care to take notice and begin to resist these types of raids.
"Well, I was OK with the raids, cause stopping drugs is for teh children, but if they're killin' innocent DOGS..." Sometimes I don't care how we get there, as long as we get there....wake up people!
**looks around, realizing that anyone on this blog is likely already awake...unless they're named Choney**
Pfft, people don't care that they shot a mother holding an infant child.
People don't care that the gubmint shooter was convicted of manslaughter in Idaho only to have Clinton's justice department overturn it and send the murderer into hiding.
Mother and child not white.
Stop the drugs for the children. Shoot the dog, Shock and Awe baby!!!

They are lucky a SWAT team wasn't standing by to enter as soon as the package was carried inside.
I like the way the intel guy gives away step by step instructions on how to properly package pounds of pot.
I have a little trick installed in my house that will activate if anybody barges through my door. Let's just say it will ruin their day. It will also result in me being prosecuted and sent to prison, but my family and dog will be safe. If that's the choice I have to make, I will climb right up on that cross.
You should set up cameras so you can demonstrate the impropriety of their actions.
Is it a blowtorch, with a string tied from the doorknob to the trigger, so that when the door opens it sets the intruder's head on fire? And maybe you can cover the floor with sharp Christmas ornaments, and swing paint buckets from the rafters as they try to climb the stairs.
I hope you enjoy being crucified for the sake of some poor damn firefighter bastard who was just responding to a call.
It's connected to the fire alarm for Christ's sake. What do you think I am? But I suppose there's always the risk that somebody gets hurt.
""I have a little trick installed in my house that will activate if anybody barges through my door.""
Did it say Acme on the box?
You aren't too far off.
Does it involve an anvil and birdseed?
I hope it involves punji stakes, Lamar.
I wish someone would drop 33 pounds of pot on my doorstep. I don't have a dog. I'd also call the police so if the dealer was watching he'd see me turn it over to them. Of course it would be 3 or 4 pounds light. LOL.
Seems to me that there's a market opportunity for front doors that don't give way when a couple of cops smack them with a 100-pound battering ram.

The Calvo situation in Berwyn Heights, Prince George's County, MD, D.C. Metro area, happened to the Mayor of the municipality & his family.

Black Labs are not aggressive dogs and their two dogs did not have to be killed.
The police/SWAT in PG County are rambo types failing to remember they are there to Serve & Protect and overreacted to the situation without having all the facts/knowledge of these alleged perps let alone notifying the local municpal law enforcement agency prior to their heinous actions.
