The Tea Parties' Latest Fan: Bill Kristol!
Mr. National Greatness Conservative calls the TPers "the best thing that has happened to the Republican Party in recent times," while pooh-poohing enthusiasm for Ron Paul as a youthful phase people sometimes go through:
Link via Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker, who comments:
Really?
Less than 10 years ago, Kristol's father Irving Kristol, the founder of the neoconservative movement, concluded that neocons couldn't align themselves with libertarians because the latter have no values. Neocons' natural allies, said the elder Kristol, were religious conservatives. From that alliance came what Bill Kristol's magazine designated as "Big Government Conservatism" and Bush 43-era policies unbeloved by most Americans these days.
Bonus irritating Kristol quote, from a New York Times story about Sarah Palin a couple of weeks back:
"I'm disappointed by her endorsement of [Rand] Paul," said William Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard and one of the conservatives credited with "discovering" Ms. Palin in 2007. "But they always disappoint you."
Reason on Kristol's un-great Greatness here.

I really fail to see what all the "tea party" fuss is about. Can someone please explain?

Can not comprehend
"I'm disappointed by her endorsement of [Rand] Paul,"
Not half as disappointed as Paul is. (Inwardly, at least.)
Yeah. I am sure it just killed him to get all that press, new supporters and campaign donations.
(Inwardly at least)
An endorsement from Polanski would get attention too.
But it wouldn't bring many supporters and even fewer donations. And further, if he finds Palin so bad, he should have refused the endorsement. If he didn't, he is a phony. Since I don't think he is that, I doubt he was disappointed but genuinely pleased.
John, your asslicking support for Palin continues to amaze me. As I've said before, it's clearly some identification thing, because anyone with half a brain would get the hell away from her, and you're not stupid, so you must be doing it for other reasons.
Since Paul accepted her endorsement, I guess you think he only has half a brain. Seriously, is he a lying fake who accepted and endorsement from such a loathsome person or is it worse and he actually likes Palin? Either way I assume your support for Rand has come to an end. Right?
I don't support the Pauls, John, so you just hit a wall, I guess. Ron/Rand Paul may be pretty libertarian, but they're politicians, and that makes them scum no matter what.
Nice try. FAIL.
Since he was actually seen in public with Palin and accepted her endorsement, you must think Rand is either deranged, stupid or both. I fully expect to see you telling everyone else on here how Rand Paul is is now verboten because of his association with Palin.
I think he basically just did that in the message above yours.
Have you ever seen me endorse Rand Paul, in any way, Einstein? Again, FAIL.
Paul strikes me as the kind of person who would appreciate the effects of the endorsement, and still be wary of the association.
If you know him intimately, I cede to your expertise.
Yes Palin is absolutely on the same level as someone who drugs and rapes a 13 year old girl.
Cute.
Lower.

So the sins of the father are now visited on the sins of the son? God Parker is stupid.
This strikes me more as laziness as opposed to stupidity. It can't be very hard to find quotes of Bill Kristol slamming libertarians.
Just type "bill" "kristol" and "libertarians" in google and enjoy.
Of course one of the examples is on Dondero's site but still....
I picked up on the same quote. In other news, Matt Welch's second cousin knows this guy who is secretly into kiddie porn.
If Bill wasnt also a neo-con, I might agree with you.
neocons couldn't align themselves with libertarians because the latter have no values.
Thus showing that as far as Kristol is concerned, liberty is not a value. Fuck that fascist pig.

...neocons couldn't align themselves with libertarians because the latter have no values.
As all of you libertarians already know, it's not that you don't have values, you just don't advocate imposing them on others. And that is why Kristol could not call you his ally.
I am not getting this Kathleen Parker comment. Less than 10 years ago, Kristol's father Irving Kristol, the founder of the neoconservative movement, concluded that neocons couldn't align themselves with libertarians because the latter have no values.
Are we talking about Bill Kristol or Irving Kristol? How does the attitude of the father automatically smear onto the son?
It doesnt automatically, it does because Bill agrees with Irving.
Okay, poorly written, but the point is still valid.
Shut the fuck up, National Greatness Conservatism.
I daresay I have superior moral values to most anyone who labels himself or herself a neocon.
Mr. National Greatness Conservative calls the TPers "the best thing that has happened to the Republican Party in recent times,"
Indeed. In fact the only thing that could top the Tea Parties would be impaling Bill Kristol on wooden stake.
"But they always disappoint you."
WTF? Is he saying that libertarians disappoint you, and that Palin is one? All in one sentence?
Kristol is the kind of guy you would like to see beaten up by Al Franken in a no holds barred wrestling match.
He is saying he liked Palin and she endorsed Paul and thus "she disappointed him" by doing so.
And again, I can't believe Paul is even allowed in polite company after accepting such an endorsement.
He's not allowed in my company, that's for sure. You really need to figure out who is a Paultard and who isn't, John--it's making you look stupider than usual.
If voting for Rand in a few months myself. Despite the endorsement.
I can't believe Bill Kristol is able to show his face in public without getting stoned.
Holy shit, Warren, that's it: he's stoned, all the time. It explains everything.
Heh. But I don't think so. If he were a burnout he wouldn't be such a war mongering itchet. Kristol is more like a meth-head.
But, like, the explosions, man, they're awesome!
This Hit and Run post made me throw up in my mouth a little.
Actually, a lot. Fuckin' Cheerios don't taste the same the second time going down.
Back in 2006 George Will called Bill Kristol Methedrine the most radical person in Washington DC. Why anyone listens to this clown is beyond me.
Did he really? That's funny because in 2002 I couldn't tell them apart.
"I'm disappointed by her endorsement of [Ron] Paul," said William Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard and one of the conservatives credited with "discovering" Ms. Palin in 2007. "But they always disappoint you."
Yeah, Billy, that's what shiksas do. Stay away from them, you hear me? Just stay away!
Bill already has one mother, are you trying out to be another?
I saw this live. My first reaction to Kristol's remarks was "what a farkin liar".
so nothing much has changed.
I suspect Kristol recognizes the small but real power in the TPM, and he's figuring a way to co-opt it. Therefore he must say nice things about them. Ron Paul is a bridge too far for Kristol, then again, Ron is already being challenged by 3 TPM associated candidates.
As for Rand accepting Palin's endorsement, well, the man is a politician.
There're no "values"
Like for-show values,
Like no values I know!
Values like killing foreigners!
Like taking over their lands!
Like no-knock home invasions,
and illegal surveilances!
Fuck you, Bill Kristol.
Isn't the reason the Tea Party emerged in the first place because assholes like Kristol pretended to be speaking for the GOP, and heartily endorsed big government conservatism, international interventionism, et al?
Who in the establishment GOP *isnt* jumping on the Tea Party bandwagon? As recently as last year we had every conservative mouthpiece decrying the 'libertarian' strains within the republican party; now that these strains are suddenly rallying attention - whoopee! Find a parade and get in front of it.
Frankly I hope the tea party barfs out the Palins and the Kristols and finds some people who genuinely have always supported limited government; a la George Will.
What baffles me is that bottom dwelling creatures who you would not trust around children such as Kristol are respected and celebrated in this culture. I was always amazed that people could let themselves be in the same room with someone like, say, McNamara let alone grant him lucrative positions of power and authority. Both scum and cream float to the top apparently, but there seems to be a lot more scum than cream.
It's Ok to like neither Palin nor Kristol Jr, correct?
Kristol is a creepy little closet queen who tried to get us into the middle east long ago. I'd like to see him in the army doing what he expects others to do.That would never happen.
