Quote of the Day: Jim DeMint Is Exactly the Same As Juan Perón
Here's Clark Winter, CIO of SK Capital Partners, explaining to Comcast/CNBC that incompetent Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben Bernanke should have been spared the cruel and unusual punishment of a televised Senate confirmation hearing -- because the hearing embarrassed Winter in front of his international jet-set friends:
"I was on the phone with some people overseas today and they were watching the same tv we were, saying 'How can the most formidable nation in the world put its most credible institution up on the grill and bake it as if it didn't know what it was talking about?' They don't understand that. That plus the White House plus Tiger, they just say, 'What is going on over there in America?' … You sit there: prosecution-trial-blame-prosecution-trial-blame. Countries like Argentina and Venezuela made a decade out of that. We're supposed to get on with it, boys. Let's grow up and move on to the solution."
More pearls of wisdom from the former Citigroup and Goldman Sachs investment seer here.

Let me guess: he thinks Rick Wagoner and Fritz Henderson are great managers, too.
'How can the most formidable nation in the world put its most credible institution up on the grill and bake it as if it didn't know what it was talking about?'
Tough question; if it happens, I'll get back to you.
P Brooks FTW! Snap!
Say, what is our most credible institution? Clearly, it's not any part of the government.
James Lipton?
Eric Mangini?
Epstein's Mother?
eBay
Speaking seriously, I'd wager that our military is a pretty credible institution. And the CBO isn't bad as far as it goes.
Yeah, the same organization that pays $400 dollars for a hammer or toilet seat is very credible.
A Wikipedia article on Buffy's own Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Snopes?
"We're supposed to get on with it, boys. Let's grow up and move on to the solution."
Careful what you ask for, Sir ...
Also -- SEXIST!
Countries like Argentina and Venezuela made a decade out of that.
RACIST!
We're supposed to get on with it, boys. Let's grow up and move on to the solution."
Does anyone else think this is the kinda extremist talk that leads to assasinations of hundreds of CFR members? That Clark Winter should be put in jail for hate speech....i agree with the 1st amendment, but come on, you can't yell fire in a crowded theatre! A little restraint would be in order for a person of his high profile.
Is there any US Seantor more "libertarian-leaning" than Jim DeMint?
I don't think so.
Well, it depends on how you define "libertarian." If you define it as you usually do SIV as "conservative Republican" then you are on the money!
FSM willing, there soon will be.
"prosecution-trial-blame-prosecution-trial-blame"
You've gotta admit, the man's got our number.
How can the most formidable nation in the world put its most credible institution
What credible institution would that be, Clark? The Fed?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Perhaps he meant creditable.....
heh heh
Shiny tie is shiny.
Correctly translated this means "Surely you can do a better job of keeping your proles under control?"
And Clark was so embarrassed.
Let's grow up and move on to the solution.
Which is why they're interrogating Bernanke and trying to get his ass fired.
It is impressive that we have so many problems and yet we are still the most formidable nation in the world. Maybe everyone else sucks. But since no one gives a shit about them, all their problems go unnoticed.
If the St. Louis Rams had gone for it on 4th and 2 from their own 28, it would have been news for about 3 minutes. Belichick does it and it's news because he's supposed to be an awesome coach.
Yesss... Countries like Argentina and Venezuela got how they are today by prosecuting powerful, well meaning bureaucrats who nevertheless fucked up their economies royally.
You know, that looks kind of like an ag-ed Rutger Hauer.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Rutger Hauer, maybe.
"It's a stupid dance with stupid people I see every stupid day!"
Yes lets get on with it like our betters wish. Let Ben burn the dollar down. Then we can replace it with honest money. Course, those brown shirts could be a problem.
Comcast? I think that throws out any credibility on anything he has to say right there.
Direct TV be-itches.
It is my understanding that DeMint is one of the Senators seeking to have the Fed audited by the Government Accountability Office. According to the Campaign for Liberty, DeMint wants a hold on the Bernanke nomination until the Senate can have an up-or-down vote on the audit bill (S.607, whose House counterpart, HR 1207, was introduced by some obscure Texan Congressman and has the support of half the members).
Usually, in politics, the guy who says 'we have to have a study by some nonpartisan agency' is a fence-sitter who is trying to waffle on the issue.
But in the case of the Audit-the-Fed bill, we discover (courtesy of the establishment) that those who want a nonpartisan investigation by a respected body are advocating *extremism.*
You learn something new every day.
And if you're looking for warm-fuzzy bipartisanship, consider that these audit bills are supported by Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich, Jim DeMint and Bernie Sanders. Getting these guys together in the same cause is certainly an accomplishment.
So, to sum up - bipartisan bill to commission an independent report = extremism.
Letting the fed block GAO investigations = moderation and prudence.
It is not entirely surprising. Libertarian roots are similar to socialist roots in history. We generally hate the same people, but given our principled position of a strict separation of economy and state, our means are typically very different.
This is supposed to be a happy occasion! Let's not argue about who killed who!
S. Carolina brings in $1.38 in federal money for every dollar they pay in taxes. I'm sure libertarian Sen. DeMint fights that pork tooth and nail as taking other people's money is theft, ya know?

Re: MNG,
But you do agree taxation is theft, right?
I've never pretended to be a libertarian.
Talking with libertarians has made me think a lot about some things I never thought about. I'm not sure whether I find taxation to be theft or whether it matters (maybe it is theft, but justified theft).
There is justified theft? Is that like when you steal a kiss or something?
or rape a slave that you already own...if you own it then it must be justiifed right?
Maybe it's time to stop not doing what you pretended you can do and can't, and start doing the thing that you can't do, but can no longer pretend that you can.
'How can the most formidable nation in the world put its most credible institution up on the grill and bake it as if it didn't know what it was talking about?' They don't understand that. That plus the White House plus Tiger, they just say, 'What is going on over there in America?'
Something about a person, or a group of people, being both rich and stupid makes me want to grab a knife, a fork, and a bib.
I mean, look at the low bar set for histrionics there -- White House, is that refering to the party crashers? I couldn't even be made to give a damn about that story. Even if the couple turned out to be ninjas that shived the entire room with butter knives, so what? Every single person in that room would have been replaced in their official capacity by the next morning.
People act like the Secret Service creed is something fucking sacred. You lost a few presidents, and you are going to lose more eventually. Get over it!
And Tiger? A guy has an affair and that is shocking to you? Born yesterday?
Rich, young, attractive, professional athlete hooks up with chicks as he travels around the world!
more breaking news is coming in....
Bear takes shit in the woods!!
Wow, talking about ignorance being bliss! LOL

You would know, bro.
I do know that every second I waste reading the Anonymity Bot is a second stolen from me...
But it's "justified theft." 🙂
American politicians do not show enough deference to the government bureaucratic class? We are supposed to think that's a bad thing?
put its most credible institution up on the grill and bake it
Ovens are for baking.
Grills are for grilling.
I thought he was using "bake" it as some kind of reference to pot.
There aren't 1 in 10,000 Americans who understand what the Fed does, and how it does it. Certainly nothing I've seen posted on these Hit and Run boards leads me to correct that estimate. Unless you exclude me, of course. (I wonder how many unique posters there are here?)
Given that level of ignorance of the Fed (and of the workings of a fiat currency more generally), does anyone really think it's a good idea to come out with the torches and pitchforks?
Go ahead and place the value of your money in the hands of the US Congress, if that's what you want. Just warn me so I can cash out first and move somewhere else.
"Go ahead and place the value of your money in the hands of the US Congress, if that's what you want. Just warn me so I can cash out first and move somewhere else. "
that would be more fair right? at least then we would know what to do...instead, we have to question why the fed is doing. We have to guess what bubbles it will let inflate and why/when it decides to pop others...all while the insiderrs at Goldman get the good info and don't have to guess.
