A Clerical Mutiny and an Angry Letter
This is a few days old but worthy of attention. The (London) Times reports of a "clerical mutiny" in Iran, with the Association of Researchers and Teachers of Qom, the country's "biggest group of clerics," declaring the recent election a sham and offering a stern condemnation of the violence that greeted opposition protests. The New York Times offered a similar report on Sunday, but today amended the story with the following correction: "[The Association of Researchers and Teachers of Qom's] influence is a matter of debate; the association is not necessarily 'the most important group.'"
But two experts quoted by the Brit Times argue that, while perhaps not the most important clerical group in the country, the statement is important:
"It's a clerical mutiny," said one Iranian analyst. "This is the first time ever you have all these big clerics openly challenging the leader's decision." Another, in Tehran, said: "We are seeing the birth of a new political front."
Professor Ali Ansari, head of Iranian Studies at St Andrews University, said: "It's highly significant. It shows this is nowhere near resolved."
Meanwhile, Jake Tapper reports that G-8 leaders have opted against sanctioning the Iranian regime and instead will issue a statement "reflecting growing impatience" with Tehran, thus offering a perfect excuse to post this video:

I wonder if the situation in Iran would be different if the media idiots had spent 1/10 the time on it than they have on Michael Dead Freakshow Jackson.
Islam, strict Islam, is falling apart. You can only fool (kill, persecute, rape, stone, slaughter, oppress, destroy, threaten, control with fear) all of the people some of the time.
Lets see how many true nerds are here.
Does a cleric mutiny mean no one is healing on raids?
(god that was a flash back)
Or a a little less nerdy.
Does a clerical mutiny mean there is no longer any filing and clerking getting done?
My thought process went in reverse order of yours.
Maybe it was the juxtaposition of "Clerical" and "Letter" in the title but my first thought was of a paperwork blockade.
DAMN CLERICS! All our Tanks are dropping like flies and the nukes aren't able to avoid agro...Where is Leroy Jenkins when you need him?
P.S. I wish we would stop worrying about our dead Bard since all he did was run around in circles singing that stupid song while our clerics mutinied.
I say we dock their DKP by FIFTY POINTS!!!
PROTESTERS! MANY PROTESTERS! NOW HANDLE IT!
Per a request
There are no clerics in WoW. You nerds fail hard.
ya NTWS language.
oops forgot, but if you have a compute you have seen it.
EQ is dead. Home to only the most destitute and forgotten of nerds. Everyone plays WoW. Right now, 500 million new accounts are being activated. Resistance is futile. Let us move nerd references away from the past.
Wait, so now we support more serious action against Iran than sending letters?
Parker and Stone are the best political satirists since Yes, Prime Minister went off the air.
> Wait, so now we support more serious action against Iran than sending letters?
We definitely support sending in puppets with explosives against Iran
You can go farther back than EQ with clerics. Oh ya epic nerd ownage on that one. Fear the dice rolling nerds!
Still kind of disturbing that after all these years that popped into my head.
I've had a few statements of "reflecting growing impatience" from several people. I ignored them and laughed. I wonder what Iran will do.
LARP, n. 1. To suck. 2. To be a fag. 3. To fail to lose one's virginity.
Gaming is not really live.
Table top RP isn't really action.
Fail/wrong squared.
My 30 THAC0 and a roll of 19 on D20 defends against your puny "letter reflecting growing impatience". I now smote thee with my +10 Hammer of Doom.
Warty's favorite character was his female half-elf Lawful Neutral level 8 cleric. She matched most closely the way he feels...inside.
and instead will issue a statement "reflecting growing impatience" with Tehran
The foppish wrist slap heard 'round the world.
I had a Paladin. Paladins can use clerical spells.
I wonder what happen to my old character sheet... Oh, right. Girls.
Why did it take so long to get a Leroy Jenkins reference here?
"Does a clerical mutiny mean there is no longer any filing and clerking getting done?"
It simply means that the missionary failed to establish the religion in that city. I have no dog in the Elf Quest/World of Wartcraft debate.
[raises hand] Half-orc barbarian for about three sessions. Dungeon-crawling sucks, even by tabletop RPG standards.
Lamar, I'm so with you. Stupid missionaries. THEY ONLY HAVE ONE JOB, AND THEY SUCK AT IT.
@Troy
You're welcome. The great Leroy Jenkins, whom many in government emulate, must not be forgotten! Because when "something" must be done, Leroy is there.

See, when I read "clerical mutiny", I think about Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life."
Parker and Stone are the best political satirists since Yes
They're also a better band.
@RCD
Do you mean Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
With the bureaucrats?
"this is the yellow form, you need to fill out the blue Rescuing Princess form."
Classic?perhaps Obama can stand in the other line and fill out the purple "Strongly worded reproach" form.
@RCD
Do you mean Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
No, I mean the scene at the beginning of TMOL, where the clerks at that insurance company seize control and go sailing off in their building to pirate world financial centers.
The legendary accounting pirates of Crimson Permanent Assurance?
Yeah, they now work for Goldman Sachs.
OHH YEAH!!! forgot about that.
Dare to dream
Rouge here. Or was it rouge?
Damn it!
Rogue!
4. an interesting way to lose one's virginity
Hey Warty, thanks for the idea. I'll be sure to credit you when I post the video.
The G8 refuses to comment on the elections. I understand that, but they could at least criticize the crack down on peaceful protestors. Instead, they passed a resolution to cut greenhouse gas emissions to 50% of the 1990 levels.
Warty's favorite character was his female half-elf Lawful Neutral level 8 cleric. She matched most closely the way he feels...inside.
Happy to say I haven't the vaguest fucking clue to that allusion. Geek yes, nerd no.
And I am glad that Warty and Epi have such a close relationship.
Iran sounds a lot like what the United States would be like if politicians had to get the approval of Rick Warren to be considered legitimate.
LARP, n. 1. To suck. 2. To be a fag. 3. To fail to lose one's virginity.
As far as #3, clearly you didn't LARPed with the girls I LARPed with. (Now, in your defense, the girls seemed to have taken #1 to heart . . .)
bizarrrooooooo!
I read some tangentially related good news today. Technology Review, published my MIT, had an article in their June 2009 issue about organizations that let bloggers post via proxy computers so dictators can't track them down. One of those groups was Tor.
People with moral insanity cannot really understand the motives of normal people and must guess their reactions. "How many divisions has the Pope?" Stalin sneered.
