Gonzalo Guizan
It's been close to five months, now, and it looks like it'll be at least another month until we get a report on the Easton, Connecticut police raid that killed 33-year-old Gonzalo Guizan. Police were acting on a tip from a prostitute who claims she saw a gun and a small amount of cocaine at the house. They stormed the place hours later, with little investigation. Guizan didn't live at the home. His family says that he was visiting the home's owner, Ronald Terebesi, Jr. The two were planning to open an employment business together. Police shot Guizan at least a dozen times as he ran toward them, likely out of fear. Guizan was unarmed.
Police found no guns, and only enough drugs and paraphernalia to charge Terebesi with a misdemeanor. That charge was dropped when Terebesi agreed to undergo treatment.

That bitch set me up!
Radley, you just don't know how difficult it is to be a police officer. We really should give them the benefit of the doubt.
Today we slap them on the wrist for murdering a Mexican (or whatever), and tomorrow they have their hands completely tied behind their backs. Literally. And they'll be blind-folded and carrying plastic water-arms.
You try solving crimes knowing that Johnny Q. Public is going to be on your case every time you send an innocent person to the glimmering police-state in the sky.

Why wait. I've got it right here.
After a lengthy investigation we have determined that the officers had sufficient evidence to justify a search warrant. With legitamate concern for their own safety they acted responsibly and correctly in the use of deadly force. They have been placed on full duty.
Anyone want to bet otherwise?
Make that lengthy and thorough investigation.
J sub D,
I'll raise you a: The officers involved are promoted within two years.
Don't forget the markmanship medals they'll receive for hitting him a dozen times.
I still think that judges are not being called out enough in this whole mess. Someone signed a warrant, most likely based on nothing more than a statement from an officer that a third party (CI) saw something. That's hearsay: it isn't allowed in court and it shouldn't, by itself, be nearly sufficient to get a warrant. If that's all it takes to establish probable cause for a warrant, then they might as well just get rid of the judges and install vending machines. Judges are supposed to be there to act as a check on overzealous cops, and they are failing spectacularly.
Here's a joke:
---------
[silence]
Who's there?
[silence]
Radley Balko who?
[bang bang bang bang bang bang]
---------
Hilarious.
Fucking shit, can you guys just ban lonewacko already?
I mean, I know that I suck at commenting, but at least I'm not lonewacko.
can we ban him en espanol?
I know I shouldn't encourage him, but ... I don't get it.

Don't sell yourself short, dude. Get massively xenophobic, break your space bar, and beat yourself in the head with a crowbar until you're retarded, and you can get there.
Sounds like it would be very wise to choose a good hotel during the planning stages does it not?

I say ban the goddamn privacy spammers before Lonewacker. At least he provides unintended comedy.
OK,
I don't get the silence silence joke. Is it Radley silencing on the door and shooting the guy who answers? Where's the humor in that?
If it's Radley being shot, why did the guy say "Radley Balko who" before shooting?
If it's Radley answering the door, why is the other guy asking who he is?
If it's supposed to be Radley getting gunned down in a no knock raid, why are the cops saying "who's there"?
I know logical and sane are not words we would use to desribe the lone wackjob's thought processes, but this is especially puzzling.
Agreed, although the potential humor ceiling is set rather low by the "knock, knock" joke format.
how about:
--------------------------------
No Knock
[silence]
<whisper>police</whisper>
[silence]
[bang bang bang bang bang bang] Isolated Incident
--------------------------------
still not really funny, but at least more logically consistent
