Gonzalo Guizan

It's been close to five months, now, and it looks like it'll be at least another month until we get a report on the Easton, Connecticut police raid that killed 33-year-old Gonzalo Guizan.  Police were acting on a tip from a prostitute who claims she saw a gun and a small amount of cocaine at the house.  They stormed the place hours later, with little investigation.  Guizan didn't live at the home.  His family says that he was visiting the home's owner, Ronald Terebesi, Jr.  The two were planning to open an employment business together.  Police shot Guizan at least a dozen times as he ran toward them, likely out of fear.  Guizan was unarmed.

Police found no guns, and only enough drugs and paraphernalia to charge Terebesi with a misdemeanor.  That charge was dropped when Terebesi agreed to undergo treatment.

Radley, you just don't know how difficult it is to be a police officer. We really should give them the benefit of the doubt.

After a lengthy investigation we have determined that the officers had sufficient evidence to justify a search warrant. With legitamate concern for their own safety they acted responsibly and correctly in the use of deadly force. They have been placed on full duty.

I still think that judges are not being called out enough in this whole mess. Someone signed a warrant, most likely based on nothing more than a statement from an officer that a third party (CI) saw something. That's hearsay: it isn't allowed in court and it shouldn't, by itself, be nearly sufficient to get a warrant. If that's all it takes to establish probable cause for a warrant, then they might as well just get rid of the judges and install vending machines. Judges are supposed to be there to act as a check on overzealous cops, and they are failing spectacularly.

If it's Radley being shot, why did the guy say "Radley Balko who" before shooting?

If it's Radley answering the door, why is the other guy asking who he is?

If it's supposed to be Radley getting gunned down in a no knock raid, why are the cops saying "who's there"?
